Once upon a time in a fairytale town there lived a little donkey named Sam. His mother loved him very much, and would have done anything to keep him happy and healthy. Sam the Donkey was very happy indeed. He had his own cozy room, lots of toys, and many friends. All day long he would play and play by the little lake not far from his house. Sam loved to play hide and seek there with his best friend, Tom Tooth.
Sam the Donkey had his own secret spot: a lovely shady nook in the bushes by the shore of a lake. No one knew about it—not even his best friend Tom. Sam loved his secret spot, where he could stay for hours and dream. Sam loved daydreaming most of all. He would imagine high mountains and how someday he would fly over them like a giant eagle. Or he would dream about having a big old van just like Uncle Wisdom Tooth’s, and would imagine going for long trips in it. Sam was small and had never been anywhere outside his fairytale town. Life was perfect for the little donkey, except for one thing. His mother, who was always looking out for his wellbeing, always made him wash his hooves before eating and take a bath before going to bed. Every day when the donkey was in his secret spot, dreaming his dreams, he would hear his mother’s voice calling him for dinner. Sam always walked home slowly, even though he was very hungry, because he didn’t want to wash his hooves. He also didn’t want to take his bath, since he knew he would have to scrub himself with that stupid Sponge and silly Soap. The Sponge seemed to bite him and the Soap always got in his eyes and nose. Sam just hated the Soap and the Sponge! One day when Sam’s mother sent him to the tub, Sam threw the Sponge and the Soap out of the window. The Sponge and the Soap fell hard on the dirt outside—they were rather badly hurt and got all dirty. They began to cry and were quite upset with the little donkey. So they decided to leave the donkey family and go as far away as
possible, and never come back to wash the donkey again. And that’s how the donkey became an unwashed donkey. Sam kept on going into the bathroom and turning on the water as though he were taking a bath, but he wouldn’t get in the tub.

One day Sam was passing by a garbage can where the evil Fubus the germ and his army were hiding out. The germ army had been camped out in the garbage ever since they were chased off by Dr. Mark when Fubus tried to attack Tom Tooth. Now, Fubus was always angry, but he was even more angry after being chased away by a dentist. Fubus was very excited when smelled Sam the Donkey from far away. Immediately he came up with a grand plan. “Get up, gang!” Fubus cried to his army of germs. “What’s going on?” squeaked the sleepy, irritated germs. “This donkey Sam never washes!” Fubus said. “I’ve got a brilliant idea!”
“What is it?” screamed the now wide-awake and squirming germs. “You guys love dirt, right?” “Yeah! We love dirt!” the germs all cheered. “When that dirty donkey comes along, we’ll attack him and hide in his thick, dirty hair. It’ll be warm and cozy in all that filth and grease and nobody will bother us.” Fubus and his germ army were
