ANNUAL REPORT

from the

general manager I am thrilled to present the Missouri Athletic Club’s first Foundations’ annual report. These are stories, names and organizations that embody our commitment to the MAC and our community. Enclosed is an overview of our strengths and opportunities for growth. This past year, we raised nearly $250,000 with the support of our members and community leaders. A wonderful thank you is in order to our all-star members, sponsors, and staff. Your commitment to our club shines bright through your continued support!

Wally Smith, General Manager Missouri Athletic Club

Commitment to

philanthropy For nearly 114 years, the Missouri Athletic Club has emphasized a strong commitment to the city of St. Louis. In the past 50 years, the commitment has grown through the establishment of the Club’s three foundations: Preservation Foundation, Sports Foundation, and Foundation for the Arts. Each has its own strategic mission, but together they hold one vision of helping the St. Louis community. With a mission dedicated to community outreach and recognizing outstanding achievements in athletics, the Sports Foundation continues to support MathewsDickey Boys’ and Girls’ Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, College Bound and Lift for Life Academy among other local charities. For the past 25 years, Past Governor Paul Weil led our Foundation for the Arts. It was Mr. Weil’s dedication to this effort that kept our collection strong. This year, we received two paintings by artist Thomas Barnett, which strengthen the member experience by adding to our robust collection. The Preservation Foundation has raised more than $1 million to preserve and protect our Downtown Clubhouse and worthy preservation entities such as City Arch River Foundation and the Landmarks Association.

Today we enjoy the shade from trees that people before us planted. It is our duty to continue that tradition by planting trees of our own, both figuratively and literally for generations to come. That to me is philanthropy and why all of us should take time to give, donate, and share. It’s what makes humans human.” — Brandon Dempsey 1

The three foundations at the Club further the mission to be a premier institution in the St. Louis region. Our roots in the city run deep, just like our roots of giving back. We invite you to join our efforts and become an All-Star.” — Mike Schoedel, President

Become an

all-star or a legend Our members’ strong bond to tradition fuels our philanthropic program: tradition of supporting the Club and our community; tradition of being a strong private club; and finally, a tradition of giving back. You can join this tradition by becoming an All-Star or a member of the Legends Society. You are making a difference: F $25 a month helps provide a birthday party for a child living in a homeless shelter. F $50 a month helps restore the Club’s treasured art collection. F $100 a month helps continue the MAC’s commitment to preserving its wonderful historic landmark at 405 Washington Avenue. F Naming the Missouri Athletic Club in your estate and becoming a member of the Legends Society ensures that your legacy and commitment to the MAC mission will live on in perpetuity. Contact Cynthia Goudy to join the program. 314-797-5474 | cgoudy@mac-stl.org

My wife and I are passionate about the MAC, both its amazing clubhouses, all its amazing programs, the wonderful relationships we have here. Margaret and I have remembered the MAC’s three foundations in our trusts, along with several other important educational and cultural missions. It’s that simple. Drop in and have a chat with Cynthia. Consider yourself asked.” — Kim DeMotte, Past Governor
