The 2020 Jack Buck Sports Awards, presented by Redbird Carriers, will take place in December 2020. Follow MAC emails and social media for further details.

This year has been unlike any other in sports history, with abbreviated seasons and teams playing in empty venues. For the 2020 Sports Personality of the Year, the Missouri Athletic Club is taking a look back and celebrating the 50 years of the award.

In 1970, Missouri Athletic Club Member Jack Buck established the Sports Personality of the Year Award to annually honor the top figure in St. Louis. For a half-century, beginning with Bob Gibson winning the inaugural award and through the most recent honoree Craig Berube in 2019, an impressive list of Hall of Famers, star players and coaching legends have received the prestigious trophy at the MAC’s Jack Buck Awards Banquet.

Previously, only Members of the MAC have been eligible to vote for the Sports Personality of the Year Award. But to commemorate the golden anniversary of the award, voting will be open to all St. Louis sports fans this year. You will have the opportunity to vote for the top 50 St. Louis Sports Personalities of the past 50 years (1970-2020). It is open ballot and not limited to past Sports Personality of the Year winners.

Online voting will conclude Friday, Oct. 30. Go to mac-stl.org and vote for as many as 50 local sports figures from the past 50 years. A first-place vote is worth 50 points, 2nd place 49 points and continues in descending order. You do not have to submit all 50 spots to have your vote counted. In December, the results of the Top 50 will be revealed through a countdown at the Jack Buck Sports Awards banquet presented by Redbird Carriers. The show will air live on KMOX Radio and will be recorded for a show on FoxSports Midwest.

WOMEN of DISTINCTION

Since 2011, the Missouri Athletic Club has honored six women from the St. Louis area who have demonstrated boundless vision in business/professional, civic engagement, philanthropic programs and mentorship. These honorees have made a significant impact in many different ways, but mostly through demonstrating excellence, growth, grit/determination and empathy. In 2020, the MAC will continue the tradition of honoring six women from the community and one Rising Star. The Rising Star should be someone 35 years of age or younger who is leading the next generation of professional women to new heights.

This year, the MAC will honor Christine Candio, former FACHE President and CEO of St. Luke’s Hospital; Theresa Carrington, CEO of Ten by Three, international speaker, author and mentor; Kate Ewing, director of strategic business development and marketing at Sandberg Phoenix; Mary Elizabeth Grimes, president of Marian Middle School; Genny Jessee, executive director of the June Jessee Memorial Foundation; Katy Vu, Senior VP, CFO of Bunzl; and Rising Star Katie Shields, head women’s soccer coach at Saint Louis University.

This event is presented by Platinum Sponsor, Sandberg Phoenix.
