harm el Sheikh has traditionally been dubbed as a diver destination, but now as the resort develops a new sport is emerging in the popularity ranks. Most people would not associate golf with arid landscapes but during the last five years, three courses have been built, giving the beginner golfer to the semi-pro player a variety of challenges. Golf has long been associated as a sport for corporate gentlemen. It is true that it comes with a certain price tag, but with three courses available it is now attracting different people from all walks of live. Georgia who has just turned 18 has started to play on a regular basis; the youngest to get into this precise sport was Charlee who is only 7, and more and more woman are having a go. 8
Stella di Mare has a short course of nine holes. Although it is often referred to as an elaborate pitch and putt, the semi-pro golf regulars have said it helps you to practice the short game. The course is compact but has challenging hillside holes and a beautiful panoramic view over the southern headland of Naama Bay. This is the perfect place to play as a beginner to practice putting, bunker shots, and small chip on shots, and also the prices are very reasonable. For more information contact the concierge at Stella di Mare hotel. The newest kid on the block is the Sinai Heights Golf Club in Nabq. The soft opening of the course was in May 2012. Dave and Jackie the UK managers/ part owners are very friendly and encouraging to anyone who might want to have a go. Jackie herself is a beginner, and Dave will give you tips when you tee off if you want them. The course is 9 holes par 36 and designed by Ronald Frame. The centre piece of this course has to be the challenging island green par 3. The island is surrounded by a pure water lake (all the water is from the on-site de-salination plant). In a couple of months time I am sure Dave will hire a diver to dig out all the balls, as many balls played MIX July - August 2012
end up as an offering to the deep. Apart from the stunning and slightly scary island green the other holes offer equally challenging play, with lakes, undulating fairways, and currently quite a lot of rough area.
Not matter what your level of play is; there is definitely a course for everyone. It is a challenging game, but also provides a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Sinai Heights golf course is open for everyone. No handicap is necessary and holiday makers and residents are welcome. The course is still currently at the soft opening stage, in September it will be fully open with a club house, club cars, caddies etc.
Golf Courses:
The oldest and therefore most established golf course is the MaritimJolie Ville Golf resort. This is an 18 hole par 72 course which is a favorite with the semi-pro resident golfers. It does have the tendency to have a private club feel, however they do have a free lesson every Monday at 10am on the driving range. If the prospect of full 18 holes is too much in Sharm’s summer heat then you can easily grab a basket of balls practice on the short game area, then move on to the driving range, and finish off on the practice putting green. Perhaps one of the most unusual features of this course is the resident Pelican who hangs out on the 18th hole near the large lake. MIX July - August 2012

oming from a long background in marketing and event management, Mohamed Zoheir moved to Sharm four years ago, escaping the hustle of big cities like Cairo and dubai, to the tranquility of Sharm. His restaurant; KIWI, located at Fayrouz Hilton, Naama Bay, serves a modern Asian cuisine in a relaxed elegant setting, right on the beach promenade. DINING By Moira Tune When it comes to Middle Eastern cuisine in Sharm there are quite a few options, but if you are looking for a touch of the Orient with a sophisticated twist and an ambiance to match then one of the finer dining options is the Four Seasons Arabesque restaurant. The Arabesque restaurant is situated on the terrace down from the main reception. There is a large outside dining area, with tables set on subtle stepped terraces creating cozy corners. The inside area is designed as a Moroccan inspired courtyard with beautiful mosaic tiling, coloured blown glass lighting, and even a central fountain. Arabesque has a far more casual ambiance than the fine dinning Italian Il Frantoio, and this is reflected in the layout and décor. Each table has pretty traditional Islamic lanterns; the round tables are dressed with crimson and terracotta table mats, and the water glass wear are made from coloured blown glass. There is also a large impressive open kitchen – which just adds to that homely comfortable feel. My friend; a frequent diner at the restaurant, suggested we sat inside, and true to Four Seasons service, we were quickly shown to our table and presented with the menus. Wine, water, and a basket of hot freshly puffed flat breads were served whilst we perused the extensive choice.

There is so much to choose from it is quite a difficult task, and a good fifteen minutes should be set aside to indulge your self in the wonderfully described dishes. Just to put you in the picture, even the hummus comes with a choice of toppings from miniature falafels to crispy fried onions to name a few.
We choose the mixed cold mezza plate which came with around five different dips, stuffed vine leaves, and tabbouleh. This was perfect as it was light and offered our taste buds a delightful range of tastes from the spicy red pepper dip to the refreshing delicately spiced yoghurt. There is also a hot mezza plate, and you can order individual mezzas as well – the list is endless. When it comes to the main dishes, the Four Seasons Chef’s have added their twist of sophistication, offering traditional dishes with a modern influence. There are tagines, oven baked dishes, and grilled options; including lamb, veal, vegetarian, sea bass, salmon and much much more. The mixed grilled seafood or meat platters are very popular, but we decided to go for two different fish dishes. I had a sea bass and prawn dish which was beautifully presented. Delicious sea bass fillets and large prawns dressed with a mix of tomatoes, capers, lime and spices served with seafood rice and fresh rocket leaves. The tangy topping was the perfect partner for the delicate sea bass which sent my taste buds to culinary heaven. After our main courses we were offered desserts and tea or coffee, but alas our tummies were full and although it was very tempting we decided to savour the taste of our mains. Once again the Four Seasons Arabesque dining experience does come with a slightly higher price tag than its Naama Bay counterparts, but for that sophisticated edge and imaginative twist on tradition, is it well worth the extra pennies, and that doesn’t even bring in the five star quality and service always associated with this fine resort. 14

This amazing night is led by a musical giant locked up in a beautiful, slender body of a woman. The atmosphere is explosive. I want to know more about this mysterious, dark lady, DJ Margo
Sahara. She arrives for our interview in a classy, casual style, very different from her show image, which is a heavy metal/ goth mix. Owning Your Piece of Paradise! A guide to buying Real Estate in Sharm El Sheikh

uying property in Egypt can be a great investment opportunity, and a chance to have a holiday home at relatively lower costs than most European destinations. It might seem a daunting task but there is a law system to protect and if you seriously want to look into the possibilities then find a bone fide real estate agent. When buying property any where in the world the age old rule is use common sense.
A company with employees is more secure than an individual There are many happy customers who have found their dream home because they checked out the procedure, there are also some who just got lucky and some who paid up on the promise of a piece of paper only to find their bank account empty and no dream home. A top tip is to follow these steps when looking for an agent and safe-guard your investment:

1. A company with employees is more secure than an individual. Companies have to be registered in Egypt so they are recognized in the system, unlike ‘Joe the Agent’ living in a private apartment. 2. Make an appointment at the agent’s office. Most reputable agents will have an office. Get the feel if it is a professional company, check for things like a website, email address etc. 3. Ask for a company profile, how many years experience, their portfolio etc. 4. Ask for references of other happy customers and contact them independently of the agent. 5. Ask around about the agent’s reputation. 6. It is possible ask a lawyer to check and see if the agent has any pending court actions against them. Once you have secured your agent, start looking for your property. The next step once you have your property is to find a lawyer. Same rules apply - ask for references, and also try and find a lawyer who can communicate with you in your own language. When you have negotiated the deal to purchase with your lawyer, you then need to start the paper-chase.

LIVING This is a rough guide to the steps in documentation which should be followed.

. It is of paramount importance to get the ‘ownership’ documents, which prove ownership. The 1st hand owner is the 1st person to purchase the land from the government, with building permission. The paper should be stamped by the government and be from the registered office. . The 1st hand owner might have sold the land to a 2nd person under a power of attorney. If the land is sold under a power of attorney there is normally a condition that the land can not be sold until 60% of the property is built. . Check the type of power of attorney the conditions and that the code number on the document corresponds with the property you want to buy.
. If the land/building has been sold from the 1st hand, then all owners should be registered and all documents should be stamped, proving that it is legal. Otherwise you could buy from an unregistered owner, and the original owner could claim the land/property back. . The papers should then be translated by the official government office. Any contract to stand up in court has to be in Arabic. Your can arrange for all the paper work to be written with the English translation alongside the Arabic. Again an official stamp shows it is correct and legal.

. Once ownership and building permission has been proven, then it is time to write up a contract between yourself and the seller. Make sure all the official numbers on the ownership documents and power of attorney are transcribed in the contract. . In order to allow your lawyer to register the contract in court, you need to make a power of attorney to him. You will need to go to the immigration office and get a one year visa. After the visa you can then make a power of attorney to your lawyer. The lawyer can then register the contract with the court.

. Before registering the contract your lawyer can check with the court in for changes in ownership or any new court pending cases.
. The final step is to receive a green A4 fold-out contract stamped by the court, proving you are the owner. This can take anything between 2-6 months. Some lawyers guarantee a quick turn-around in this procedure. . The ownership for a foreigner is currently on a 99 year lease. Your reputable agent will be able to give you an English translation of this law which is ‘Prime Minister’s Decree No. 548 of the year 2005 concerning the Non-Egyptians’ Ownership and Usufruct of Residential Units in Certain Areas’. ‘Certain areas’ mainly applies to Sinai.
