The Words of Allah
And everyone has a goal which dominates him; vie, then, with one another in good works. Wherever you be, Allah will bring you all together. Surely, Allah has the power to do all that He wills. (Al-Baqarah, Chapter 2 : Verse 149)
O ye who believe! when it is said to you, ‘Make room!’ in your assemblies, then do make room; Allah will make ample room for you. And when it is said, ‘Rise up!’ then rise up; Allah will raise those who believe from among you, and those to whom knowledge is given, to degrees of rank. And Allah is Well-Aware of what you do. (Al-Mujaadilah, Chapter 58 : Verse 12)

Sayings of the Holy Prophet [saw] Hazrat Abu Hurairah [ra] relates that the Holy Prophet [saw] said: ‘Hasten to do good before you are overtaken by one of seven misfortunes: perplexing adversity, corrupting prosperity, disabling disease, babbling dotage, sudden death, the worst apprehended Anti-Christ, the hour: and the Hour will be most grievous and most bitter.’ (Tirmidhi) Hazrat Shaddad ibn Aas [ra] relates that the Holy Prophet [saw] said: ‘A wise person is one who watches over himself and restrains himself from that which is harmful and strives for that which confronts him after death; and foolish is the one who gives reign to his cravings and seeks from Allah the fulfillment of his vain desiresb.’ (Tirmidhi) Hazrat Abu Dhar [ra] and Hazrat Mu’az ibn Jabal [ra] relate that the Holy Prophet [saw] said: ‘Mind your duty to Allah, wherever you are; and followup evil with good, the latter will wipe out the former; and behave well towards people.’ (Tirmidhi) Hazrat Anas [ra] relates that the Holy Prophet [saw] said: ‘Allah says: When a servant of Mine advances towards Me a foot, I advance towards him a yard and when he advances towards Me a yard, I advance towards him the length if his arms spread out. When he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.’ (Sahih Bukhari) Hazrat Abdullah ibn Abbas [ra] has related that the Holy Prophet [saw] repeated Allah’s affirmation that: ‘He has defined good and evil and has expounded their graduation. He, therefore, who makes up his mind to do a good deed, is rewarded by Allah for one full measure of it, and if he then proceeds to carry it out, Allah rewards him from ten to seven hundred times and even many times more. He who is inclined towards an evil deed, but does not carry it out, is rewarded by Allah for one full measure of good deed. Should he carry it out, he is debited only one evil deed.’ (Sahih Bukhari & Sahih Muslim) Tariq Magazine

Writings of the Promised Messiah [as] “The primary purpose of this Convention is to enable every sincere individual to personally experience religious benefits; They may enhance their knowledge and – due to their being blessed and enabled by Allah, The Exalted- their perception (of Allah) may progress. Among its secondary benefits is that this congregational meeting together will promote mutual introduction among all brothers, and it will strengthen the fraternal ties within this Community...” (Ishtihar 7 Dec. 1892, Majmoo`ah Ishtiharat Vol. I, Page 340). “It is essential for all those who can afford to undertake the journey, that they must come to attend this Convention which embodies many blessed objectives. They should disregard minor inconveniences in the cause of Allah and His prophet [saw] . Allah yields reward to the sincere persons at every step of their way, and no labour and hardship, undertaken in His way, ever goes to waste. I re-emphasize that you must not rank this convention in the same league as other, ordinary, human assemblies. This is a phenomenon that is based purely on the Divine Help, for propagation of Islam." (Ishtihar 7 Dec. 1892, Majmoo`ah Ishtiharat Vol. I, Page 341) “I conclude with the prayer that everyone who travels for (attending) this Convention that is for the sake of Allah: May Allah, the Exalted, be with him, reward him in abundant measure, have mercy on him, ease up for him his circumstances of hardship and anxiety and eliminate his anguish and grief. May He grant him freedom from every single hardship and lay open for him the ways of (achieving) his cherished goals, and raise him up, on the day of Judgment, among those of His servants who are the recipients of His blessings and Mercy. May He be their Guardian in their absence until after their journey comes to an end. O Allah! O Sublime One and Bestower of bounties, the Ever Merciful and One Who Resolves all problems, do grant all these prayers, and grant us Victory over our opponents with scintillating signs, because You alone have all the prowess and power. [ameen]! [ameen] !!” (Ishtihar 7 Dec. 1892, Majmoo`ah Ishtiharat Vol. I, Page 342)

16th May 2013
MKA NATIONAL IJTEMA 2013 – 5, 6, 7 JULY AT ISLAMABAD As you will be aware, the highlight of our MKA calendar year is the National Ijtema. With this in mind, kindly ponder over the following statement of Hadhrat Musleh Ma'ud regarding the importance of the National Ijtema: “I would like to draw the attention of those Khuddam who are not attending this Ijtema, and want to express my sadness and surprise. I would like to tell them that the purpose of Khuddamul Ahmadiyya is to develop this realisation, that they are the Servants (Khuddam) of Ahmadiyyat. A servant is one who stays close to his master. The servant, who does not stay with his master (Khilafat), in terms of time or duties, cannot be called a servant (Khadim).” The National Ijtema this year will take place in Islamabad on 5th, 6th and 7th July and presents both Khuddam and Atfal with an opportunity to come together in a spirit of brotherhood and unity for three enjoyable and spiritually charged days. Attendees compete with one another in a brotherly spirit, through partaking in academic and sports events. They also renew old friendships and begin new bonds of brotherhood that often last a lifetime. All of this is in line with the blessed injunction of the Holy Qur'an: ''Vie with one another in good works'' (2.149). By the Grace of Allah, 2013 also marks the 75 th year since the establishment of Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya. During each of those blessed years, Khuddam and Atfal across the world have cherished the honour and opportunity to serve Khilafat and the Jamaat with a spirit of absolute loyalty, devotion & obedience. With this in mind please kindly pray for the success in all respects of our Ijtema. Please feel free to contact me should you require any information. والسالم Yours humbly

A
fter reciting Tashhahud, T’awwuz and Surah Fatiha, Huzoor [atba] said:
“And who is better in speech than he who invites men towards Allah and does righteous deeds and says, ‘I am surely of those who submit’?” (Ch: 41 : V.34) In this verse, Almighty Allah has drawn our attention towards Tabligh – propagating His message. But the hallmark of one who performs Tabligh should be that he practises righteous deeds and displays absolute submission. In this verse, by using the word ‘righteous deeds’ prior to ‘submission’, we are told that only if righteous deeds are performed will true submission be exhibited, otherwise saying we are obedient will merely be a claim. In the absence of righteous deeds the claim of obedience is a hollow one. A righteous deed is that action and that act, which is proper, which is permitted and is also appropriate to a particular occasion. Thus, when one becomes or tries to become this type of person, or tries to perform pious deeds that are appropriate to the occasion and environment, where full regard is given to the rights of God Almighty and the rights of people; then it can be said about such an individual that he truly becomes one who performs righteous and pious deeds. When such people convey the message of God Almighty, their message is given value, and others pay heed to it.

Tariq Magazine
I will give you an example of a righteous deed. One of God Almighty’s commandments is to observe Prayer. Five daily prayers, at the appointed times, have been made obligatory. But in some instances, precedence has been given to discharging the rights of people over this important obligation, and the obligation of prayer is relegated. For example, if someone is asked for help whilst he is offering prayer at home, at work or in some other place other than a mosque (sometimes situations arise when others call to a person offering prayer for help). The best practice in such cases is to discontinue the prayer, immediately help the person and remove him from danger, and then complete the prayer afterwards. The Holy Prophet [saw] would care for these issues to such an extent and to such minute detail that he said that if he heard a child crying whilst leading the prayer, then he would shorten the prayer considering that the child and its mother may be in distress and anguish. This example, while demonstrating the Holy Prophet’s [saw] concern for even the small sufferings of humanity, also negates the proclamations made by certain pretentious people nowadays who say they are so absorbed in prayers that they are totally oblivious to what is happening around them. Then there are people who have accredited some individuals as saintly,
or even attributed false stories to some genuinely spiritual men, claiming they are so holy or pious that when they are engaged in prayers they are completely unaware of where they are and what is happening in the world around them. Some people have even made such stories that a pious man was so engrossed in his prayer that when he was bitten by a scorpion, he did not even notice anything. Indeed, it is a fact that sometimes one is so deeply engrossed in prayer that he attains a condition where he loses consciousness, but it certainly does not and cannot happen at all times and to everyone. The Holy Prophet’s [saw] Ta‘alluq Billah (relationship with God Almighty), his Tabattul-ilallah (cutting oneself entirely from the world and submitting to God Almighty) and Fanaa-fillah (total submission to God Almighty) was far superior and nobody else could ever come closer to God Almighty. When even he has stated that during his prayer his attention would be drawn towards a crying child and he would shorten his prayer, then how can other people claim to be totally oblivious of their surroundings whilst praying? Anyway, the rationale behind narrating this small instance is to reform the views of certain individuals including those who sometimes state such stories in their letters to me. Returning to what I was saying earlier,
one who preaches the religion of Allah the Almighty can only be truly successful in conveying His message if he performs righteous deeds and displays complete submission. In the pledge of Khuddamul Ahmadiyya, we proclaim to sacrifice our life, wealth, time and honour for Islam and Ahmadiyyat. Also, I took a pledge from you on 27th May this year at the occasion of the Khilafat Centenary that we vow to spread Islam, Ahmadiyyat and the name of the Holy Prophet Muhammad [saw] to the corners of the earth, and will make every possible effort to achieve this. And we also affirmed that we would strive until our last breath to safeguard and strengthen the institution of Khilafat. The way I have received a large number of letters requesting prayers for achieving strength in fulfilling this pledge, from here and from all parts of the world; from men, from women and from youth as well, it is evident from this that, by the Grace of Almighty Allah, an overwhelming number of Jama‘at members have a strong sense of duty and it is engraved on their hearts that they have to fulfil their pledge They strive, pray themselves and also write to me for prayers. But it requires every one of us to keep a close eye on our own deeds. I have already given you just one example of what a righteous deed is, but the Holy Qur’an lays out a long list of righteous deeds in the form of the commandments of God Almighty. The Holy Qur’an clarifies what constitutes righteous deeds that should be practised and what comprises non-righteous deeds that one must abstain from. So always be mindful of the importance of righteous deeds and pursue them all the time. The example given by me earlier about prayer should not lead any one to a misconception that by serving humanity or the Jama‘at, one can be excused from offering prayer. It is correct that fulfilling fellow humans’ rights is a kind of worship, but fulfilling the rights of God Almighty is an enormous obligation and a compulsory form of worship that He has ordained us to perform. Going further with the example I illustrated, it is imperative that after providing immediate help to the one in need, and after removing him from distress, one should promptly return to the actual purpose of one’s creation, that is, to worship Allah the Almighty in the way
“Then God Almighty commands us to be
humble, as He dislikes egotism and arrogance. No one should be proud of his knowledge, skill or wealth. This is humility, which brings a man closer to God Almighty.”
prescribed by Him – this is the secret of true success that He has taught us. God Almighty has commanded that a faithful person should proclaim that he is absolutely obedient. Obedience becomes absolute if Almighty Allah’s commandments are obeyed in their entirety. About such commandments, the Promised Messiah [as] has narrated that there are five hundred of them, and in another place he has said there are seven hundred commandments. In any case, there are hundreds of commandments. Thus, Allah the Almighty has set out a principle for Tabligh (propagating His message), that you can convey His message properly only if an untainted representation and a true picture of the religion is reflected in your own conduct. Everyone else should notice and assert that this Ahmadi youth is such that he practises what he preaches about his religion. Thereby, in this day and age as well, when religion is becoming a target of criticism of various kinds, we can show that Islam is not a religion that is not practicable. If one has been caused harm or becomes embroiled in a quarrel with somebody who punches or hits him; he should not bear enmity in his heart or become enraged to the extent that until he has gathered a gang of boys and has taken revenge through beating the other up well and good, he does not gain respite. Similarly, the exuberance of youth should not give way to the unleashing of knives or guns as a result of trivial disagreements. This trend has become common in this country too. Youth have started carrying knives and other weapons with them even to their schools. There has been a great hue and cry as a result and various restrictions are being placed on youths to curb this. The formation of gangs in this way results in minor disagreements
escalating into fights. As a result, opposite groups are often seriously injured. In some cases these clashes have even caused fatalities as serious injuries are afflicted upon members of either party. Thus Islam prohibits us from taking revenge in this manner. Still, Islam does not teach that “if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also”. This is contradictory to human nature, and even the followers of the Bible, to whom that teaching was revealed, do not and actually cannot follow it. Islam instructs its followers to adopt the middle path and a balanced approach. The purpose of Islam is the reformation of society. This is why God Almighty commands that if one’s reformation is possible in some cases through punishment, then do punish, and if forgiving brings about reformation, then forgiveness should be the course of action in that case. However, in the case of punishment, be mindful that one must not take the law into his own hands because it destroys the peace of the society. You must not fight over paltry matters. If someone constantly afflicts harm on you, then seek the help of the law. If everyone starts taking revenge himself then this will initiate a series of unending fights. What often happens here, and I also come across some cases, that an Ahmadi takes revenge and retaliates after engaging in a fight with the local youth, and the police sided with the local group. Consequently, some Ahmadis ended up in prison. If asylum seekers are involved in such fights then this often proves detrimental for their asylum applications. So it is extremely vital for an Ahmadi to exhibit tolerance and fortitude. If we show lack of patience and forbearance and seek vengeance, then rather than being viewed as flag-bearers of peace, who maintain peace and reform the society, we endanger ourselves of being perceived Tariq Magazine

Huzoor [atba] Address as destroyers of peace. As a consequence, we will never be able to fulfil the pledge that we made that it is our duty to pass the virtuous message of Islam to every citizen of this country. Since one bad apple spoils the whole barrel, all of us will be judged in the same way as a result of the delinquency of a few. Others are then justified to question the person who does Tabligh (propagates the message) if he performs bad deeds as such. They will ask what positive change has your faith brought in your personality? And what special and extraordinary attributes are in your character that we do not possess? Thus, today, it is the need of the hour that every Ahmadi youth should contemplate what he can do for the service of Islam and Ahmadiyyat. He should ponder on what services he can provide to win the love of Almighty Allah and fulfil his pledge, and how he should bring about a pious change in his deeds to attract the interest of others, which will help him to introduce the beautiful teachings of Islam to good-natured citizens in his surroundings. So where righteous deeds will help you win the pleasure of Allah the Almighty, it will also open new avenues for Tabligh (the propagation of the message). As I have mentioned before, the Holy Qur’an lays out a long list of righteous deeds. For example, the Holy Qur’an states that you should discharge the rights of trust. Now there are several types of trust. One of them is in the form material objects e.g. cash or possessions which are placed in your custody. On demand this trust must be surrendered swiftly. Do not make excuses to avoid or delay settlement. Another type of trust is what you have in the form of religion. How should this trust be fulfilled? As I stated earlier, the mode of its return is through fulfilling God Almighty’s rights in the form of worshipping, praying, sacrificing one’s wealth and time and utilising one’s faculties to his best in discharging his duties. The right of prayers is fulfilled through offering prayers at the prescribed times, and the right of financial sacrifices is fulfilled by making financial sacrifice to the correct proportion. Students have also been entrusted with a trust, that is, he should properly utilise his time for his studies. To discharge his
8
Tariq Magazine
duty on this trust, an Ahmadi student should provide sufficient time for his studies and pay proper attention to it. We also have Jamia Ahmadiyya here. Jamia students should be giving due attention to their studies. Some Jamia students are seated before me; at this time their studies must be given preference over everything else. If they do not give proper attention to their education, then they will be in no position to advise others. Thus, everyone has a specific sphere and he needs to discharge his responsibility towards the trust in his respective circle. A businessman, an employee or a student, all have their own respective spheres, and so have others. Unless every Ahmadi discharges his duty regarding trusts within his specific circle, his practices will not be classified as righteous deeds and nor can his obedience be absolute. This is because it is Allah the Almighty’s command to discharge the rights of one’s trust. Our Shura (meeting of consultative body) is going to be held soon. If the members of the Shura do not make their proposals with honesty, and the focus of their suggestions is to favour their friends, then this is a violation of the rights of a trust. Then God Almighty commands us to be humble, as He dislikes egotism and arrogance. No one should be proud of his knowledge, skill or wealth. This is humility, which brings a man closer to God Almighty. Then there is Husn-e-zunn (thinking good of others). The relationships between several friends become sour when an atmosphere of mistrust and suspicion builds up. Another major vice under the influence of this society that deserves a lot of concern, but unfortunately does not get sufficient attention, is the absence of Ghadh-e-basar (lowering of the eyes) – not keeping one’s gazes from looking at every indecent thing. In this culture, the commandment regarding keeping gazes low is not limited to only looking down when a woman passes by you. In fact, some television or internet programmes are too indecent to be watched, but some individuals do not deem them to be inappropriate by still watching them. I receive complaints of such young persons from their relatives
or wives. Such individuals initially lead a wholesome life, but all of a sudden they become addicted to such ills and then they squander their days and nights on this. Consequently, they keep falling deeper and deeper in a pit of this vice. As an organisation, Khuddamul Ahmadiyya should chalk out a plan to keep its youth so busy that the attention of its youth does not get diverted to these despicable programmes. Rather, their thoughts are only focused towards constructive projects. As such, not only will they keep themselves away from this vice but will also safeguard their homes. It is the duty of every Ahmadi to value the enormous blessing, which is that Almighty Allah has included us in the Jama‘at of the Promised Messiah [as]. In this Western society, the youth are becoming spoilt, especially youth from Asian origins who migrate here. As I have mentioned before, gangs are being formed in schools and colleges. There are gangs for the English, Africans and Asians or even gangs formed of other peoples of different nationalities who share similar traits and personalities. Their clashes have brought misery to the lives of innocent people. They scuffle in the streets. Similarly, some groups of Muslims are, through their ghastly acts, portraying a misleading image of Islam. Some Muslim converts with English heritage also misguidedly join such groups. So, it is the obligation of Ahmadi youths to quash these ill-effects. This requires a display of high moral standards, which includes demonstrating all the virtues and determination to secure and safeguard the rights of fellow humans. But at the same time, it is also important that the appearance of every Ahmadi Khadim should be of a well-groomed person with pleasant facial appearance, sensible hair style and decent clothing that attracts everyone. If you want to appear fashionable then do so in such a way that you do not lose your identity, and you still look amiably distinctive. Bizarre hair cuts and application of excessive hair creams and gels give some youngsters a peculiar appearance. I even noticed on the occasion of ‘Eid some youth arrive having adorned themselves greatly, and in order to keep their hair styles undisturbed, some come to the mosque without wearing caps. It is true that prayer can be offered without wearing a cap; this is not forbidden, however, this should only be in the case
of compulsion, e.g. due to eczema on someone’s head, or due to some other ailment, or in the case of someone being unable to afford a cap. If such youngsters have sufficient cash to buy hair gel and expensive clothing, then a cap should also be affordable as it is comparatively much cheaper. With the blessing of Allah the Almighty, the majority here are well-to-do and therefore can afford to buy a cap.
away the distinction of an Ahmadi from a street boy. One should abstain from both extremes and that should be considered. Only then will this will become a righteous deed with regards to our clothing. So steer clear of extremes in the selection of your clothing by assuming that Prayer can only be offered if one is wearing a particular type of dress, and also avoid strange attire, which can sometimes be laughable.
My intention behind shedding light on these matters is to instil in your minds that a person who calls others towards Allah the Almighty should have a good nature, and his appearance should be such that it creates a positive influence on the beholder. In this society, it has come to notice that some other Muslim groups deem that Muslims should be confined to wearing only certain types of clothes, without which they cannot live their lives. This results in hesitation by local people in engaging in conversation with such Muslims. They are frightened of such Muslims, viewing them as totally alien. Islam does not restrict Muslims to be clad in any one particular type of clothing. A garment should be decent and serve its purpose of covering one’s body properly. A righteous deed in this society is to wear a dress that does not repel others. Some non-Ahmadi Muslims are dressed in such a way that they become a source of anxiety for the public and draw undue attention from the police. I do not, however, solicit you to drop your dress code for the purpose of integration and preaching the message. You should be dressed suitably and look sober. But one should not think that in order to integrate with locals, they should start wearing shorts and vests in public. Wearing shorts and vest should be limited only to playing sport and it should not be adopted as a regular outfit. If our youth are inclined towards offering five daily prayers at the mosque they will automatically choose against wearing such clothing. It would be irrational for them to keep changing their shorts and vest into appropriate attire for prayers, and then returning from the mosque, revert to their shorts and vest and then repeat the same exercise before and after every prayer. If our attention is focused towards prayers then we will only choose to wear what can conveniently be worn at all times. The choice of dress should be such that it neither makes the local population feel intimidated, nor takes
Hence, always remember that your every act should be for the purpose of winning Almighty Allah’s pleasure and keeping the name of His religion aloft. If you unequivocally obey the Nizaame-Jama’at (system of the Jama’at), then the new Ahmadi converts through you will hold fast to the Nizaam-e-Jama‘at. Your complete love and devotion to Khilafat will not only play a vital role in your own Tarbiyyat (spiritual training), but will also become a source for the new Ahmadi converts to value the significance of this divine blessing. If you are virtuous by fulfilling Almighty God’s and His people’s rights, then your acts will affect your surroundings and draw people’s attention towards you. Islam’s beauty will be demonstrated and as a result they will be inclined towards Islam. As a bare minimum this will remove the erroneous understanding of Islam from their minds. Thus, while it is imperative for every Jama’at member, I would also draw special attention of the youth to progress in virtues, Taqwa (righteousness) and worship. Be honest and fulfil the rights of trust, be steadfast in truthfulness, always be prepared to tell the truth and fulfil the rights of justice. Every Ahmadi should always try to march forward in fulfilling all of these forms of trust. What are the rights of truthfulness and justice? I want both small children and adults to remember that your yardstick for truthfulness should be such that even the risk of losing life should not deter you from telling the truth. Give up your life if you have to, but do not go near to uttering a lie. A large number of youngsters develop various vices because when they enter adolescence and it is enquired by their parents regarding something on their return from outside, they tell their parents false stories. When we will make a pledge that we shall never speak a lie and will always tell the truth in every circumstance, then we will stay clear of many vices. Always be mindful that
it is the youth that plays an important role in the fortification of a nation. It is the youth, if they are totally and utterly steadfast in their faith and beliefs, who can play a pivotal role in bringing a revolution in this world. Therefore, recognise your duties and play your role to the best of your abilities in delivering the message of Islam and Ahmadiyyat in its correct form in your respective circles. I once again want to remind students that our future progress now depends on advancement in education. This is even more so in the West. I have said in the past that our students should particularly try to progress in research; they should become leaders in the fields of science, technology and medicine, because this will enable you to have a firm footing in Europe. If you wish to adopt something of the West then the research facilities available here should be brought to maximum use. Let the luminosity of Qur’anic teachings enlighten your mental faculties. This will guide you to serve humanity and will lead you to prove to the world the superiority of Islamic teachings. Consequently, this will be the means to introduce Islam and assist in Tabligh (propagating the message). Hence every one of you who is either working in any field or is a student must try and discover fresh methods of spreading the message of Islam in your respective circle. This, however, depends on if your mental aptitude turns towards it, you ponder about it and adapt your actions accordingly. In the end, I again remind you of your pledge that you took this year on 27th May. That pledge must not give way to only a temporary phase of passion and a mere exhibition of emotions. Fulfilling one’s promises is one of the commandments of Almighty Allah. Therefore, I urge you to display perfect obedience and submission and with a renewed spirit endeavour to fulfil your promise. There should be a revived fervour and zeal in your heart. Set such examples that become a model for the coming generations. May Allah the Almighty enable you to do so. Now join me in silent prayer.”

MKA History Introduction It was during the caliphate of Hazrat Khilafatul-Masih I [ra] that in 1913 the UK shores had its first ever Ahmadi missionary sent to London for the propagation of Islam. The esteemed member of the Jama’at was named Chaudhry Fateh Muhammad Sial Sahib. It was during this period with humble efforts of this chosen servant of Ahmadiyyat and the sheer guidance and prayers of Hazrat Khilafatul-Masih I [ra] and Hazrat Khilafatul-Masih II [ra] that UK Jama’at was able to buy a plot and build the Fazl Mosque in 1924 which was inaugurated by Hazrat Khilafatul-Masih II [ra] fulfilling another prophecy of the Promised Messiah [as] where he seen members of the west accepting the message of Islam and Ahmadiyyat and truly fulfilling the prophecy of the Holy Prophet [saw] that the sun shall rise from the west. The establishment of the UK Jama’at spans a period of 100 years.
Hazrat Musleh Maud [ra] exemplified this attitude of service which can be seen when on the demise of his beloved father (the Promised Messiah [as]) at a tender age of 17, when he stated: "Even if all the people leave you and I am left alone I would stand by you and would face all opposition and onslaughts against your Mission." The purpose of establishing Khuddamul Ahmadiyya in 1938 was to create servants of Ahmadiyyat that would not only help and assist the Jama’at but mankind at large. Hence Hazrat Musleh Maud [ra] established the motto which would encapsulate the true meaning of Khuddamul Ahmadiyya: 'A Nation cannot be Reformed without the Reformation of its Youth'
Never would one have imagined that London would become the residence of Khilafatul-Masih and the responsibility would be placed on members of the UK Jama’at to serve Khilafat and directly have guidance from Khilafatul-Masih.
Such a profound statement and vision given at a time when the Jama’at was facing many challenges is illustrative of the personal importance Hazrat Musleh Maud [ra] gave the youth of the organisation to enable an army of young men to become guiding light of the truth of Islam and show the difference between youngsters of Ahmadiyyat and other youngsters of organisations.
The establishment of Khuddamul Ahmadiyya was firmly established in the sub-continent by invaluable advice provided by the illustrious leader and founder of the organisation Hazrat Musleh Maud [ra]. He was to create a body of young men that would become dedicated servants of Ahmad and function as the backbone of the Jama’at.
This was also a challenge to the youth of not only then but also of the future to undertake this reform and firmly established the vision of their beloved Khalifa. Hazrat Musleh Maud [ra] mentioned in one of his couplets that serving of the faith is a blessing and should not be seen as an erroneous and burdensome task.

Fazl Mosque, London We now move towards the establishment of Khuddamul Ahmadiyya within the UK and can see the unique, dynamic and vibrant organisation serving not only the needs of its members but British society as a whole. It has over 80 local branches from Glasgow to Cornwall, with a membership of over 6,000. This had not always been the case from a humble beginning and embryonic stage of development the MKA UK held its first Ijtema in 1965 at a time when there were a modest number of Khuddam, largely in the Greater London area. This was a modest affair but in 1972, the Gillingham Khuddam organised the first one day indoor ijtema that caught the imagination of the Khuddam at that time, leading to a flurry of such events taking place all over the UK over the
next few years. However the London area remained the primary focus with the Ijtema taking place in and around the Fazl Mosque complex. To address the needs of the increasing number of Khuddam around the country, the National Qiadat was established in 1980. The needs of the Ijtema also grew and Heathlands School, Hounslow became the venue for the National Ijtema with a focus on a comprehensive programme of academic and sporting activities. However the major change occurred once the UK Jama'at had the arrival of Hazrat Khilafatul-Masih IV [rh] [rh]. This was unprecedented and in itself provided a joyous moment for the UK Jama’at but also a time of sheer importance to safeguard, protects and firmly established the permanent residence of Khilafatul-Masih and ensures the guidance imparted by Khilafatul-Masih was adopted and adhered too.
Khuddam. Prior to the establishment of MKA UK we adopted the system of National Qaid which was used in Pakistan. This ran its course from 1980-1988. Hazrat Mirza Nasir Ahmad, Khilafatul-Masih III [rh] visited the UK during his tours in 1980. During this time the Majlis were fortunate to have the presence of their beloved Khalifa on functions organised by Khawaja Rasheed Uddin Sahib and later by Aslam Javed Sahib. In the United Kingdom, Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya (MKA) UK was founded in 1988 with the appointment of its first Sadr Majlis (National President), Rafiq Hayyat Sahib. This position was put into effect in UK under the direction of Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad, fourth Caliph of the community moving away from the position of National Qaid that existed. This formal system was to be replicated across the globe.
Advice from Khulafa
This provided a platform for personal engagement and guidance with Hazrat Khilafatul-Masih IV [rh] to develop, nurture and progress the Majlis to new frontiers and establishes the basics of administrative processes and procedures that needed to be implemented to realise the true potential of MKA UK.
History of MKA UK Members of the UK were very fortunate as they had the privilege of hosting many companions of the Promised Messiah [as] and also taking care of the needs of the guests of the Promised Messiah [as]. What was even more fortunate was that the UK had visits by four Khulafa-e-Ahmadiyyat and three Khulafa that provided direct guidance to

relationship to Khilafat and establish a personal bond with Khilafatul-Masih who is the appointed representative of Allah carrying out the works of his blessed Holy Prophet [saw] and the Promised Messiah and Imam Mahdi [as].
Hazrat Khilafatul-Masih IV [rh] Administrative
Huzoor stated that the person at the top should have his finger on the pulse and know what is happening in each department and to ensure that instructions were being implemented. It was not enough for officers to give instructions and wait for them to be implemented. They needed to observe whether these instructions were to be enacted so that they could react to any flaws promptly and effectively. "Whenever you give an instruction, make sure it is being followed. Never assume. Go to the grassroots yourself. You should know everything within Khuddamul Ahmadiyya in every part of the country, every region, every Qiadat".
As the Jama’at in the UK grew it acquired the land at Islamabad in the mid 1985's to carry out tasks such as the Ijtema’at. That suddenly provided the freedom and space to hold events that included sports, barbeques and a much more varied programme of activities. The first barbeque was held in Islamabad in the mid-80's in what had been the stables of the old Sheephatch Farm. This proved to be so successful that it has now become a fixture of the National Ijtema.
“A Nation cannot be
Rafiq Hayyat, First Sadr Majlis It is difficult to cover all the advices Khulafa have rendered to us however these few nuggets of information provide a glimpse into what is required of us as a Majlis. These are but a few guiding and enlightening blessings of having Khilafatul-Masih present amongst us that we must hear and obey as instructed in the Qur’an and fulfil our pledges of allegiance to Khilafat. Then we will truly be receiving the blessings of this institution and also the favours of Allah the Almighty. We should always endeavour to hold a close
The purpose was that the office bearers should understand what was taking place across the country and ensure the advice rendered by Khilafatul-Masih was reaching each and every individual. This should lead to creating a bond of love, affection and brotherhood so that spirituality can be created in the hearts of Khuddam. One should always see the best in everyone and offer great sacrifices in time to understand the needs of the youngsters so that appropriate plans can be made to facilitate the needs of the Majlis. Another important piece of advice Tariq Magazine
11
MKA History Huzoor gave was that whenever the Khalifa of the time is present, the organisers should use the best person for Tilawat and Nazm. The purpose for this was to train the administration of the correct etiquettes and also allow others to aspire to greatness so that they could vie with one another in good works and try to achieve perfection in what they do. Huzoor was also keen that points made by members should be concise, specific and accurate without attaching any personal motive and emotion to their stance. This will safeguard the Majlis from unnecessarily hurting the sentiments of any individual. The purpose would in any deliberation to ensure that a person does not act in haste and safeguards the institution by treading the path of taqwa.
Serving Humanity
Huzoor advised that this organisation should not limit itself with involving Ahmadi's, but other "noble souls" also. Humanity First's motto, "serving mankind", was also inspired by Huzoor's incisive understanding of the Islamic concept of service affirming that: "You will remain the best as long as you are service minded".
“And the true believers spend in our cause whatsoever we ourselves have bestowed upon them.”(Ch.2 : V.4). The purpose was to create an organisation that based on the above Qur’anic verse would elucidate the good works the believers of the faithful should be carrying out. This vision of Huzoor was to establish a charity that would promote the highest ethical action, safeguard the preservation of human life and dignity above all other considerations, and through it, symbolise the unity and brotherhood of humankind. This organisation would be non-political and would engender a change and reformation in the Majlis and wider
12
Tariq Magazine
community so that inter-faith dialogue would occur within a multi-cultural and diverse world we live in. The charity would allow racial and geographical barriers to be broken. Huzoor wanted to inculcate the love of sacrifice and service amongst the youth create a lasting bond using our faculties to create human relationships, honour, peace and comfort amongst society. "All that is required is that you should spend something of which God has given you. The scope of something is so variable that that even ordinary, weak people who do not have the strength to make substantial sacrifices can at least participate to whatever degree they can afford".
Tarbiyyat Matters
Huzoor directed everyone's attention to the fact that they should know their Salaat with translation and also be able to read the Holy Qur'an properly. This is a pivotal teaching in Islam and is a Miraj of a believer to understand the commandments of Allah. If one understands the concept of prayers and reciting of the holy words of Allah one can at tread the path of righteousness and be guided to follow in the footsteps of our Holy Master the Holy Prophet [saw] and create a living relationship with Allah the Almighty. Emphasis was to create a union with Allah and regularity in prayer which was understood by members and not just mere movements. If the Arabic could be understood then the true essence was to create love of God and it is that love that he wanted us to instil in ourselves through the worship of Allah.
Hospitality
One area where Huzoor would not compromise was hospitality. He wanted us to give the best quality of service to the guests of the Promised Messiah [as]. Huzoor wanted to instil in the whole Majlis the true essence and spirit of hospitability and would often cite examples of the Holy Prophet [saw] and Promised Messiah [as]. This was done to cultivate a habit amongst the community the importance of looking after your fellow brethren and treating your brothers as your own family.
There was great emphasis to be given to the looking after of guests as it was our duty especially the office bearers to cater for the needs of the people so that no distress, discomfort and burden is placed on the guest due to his been away from home. Huzoor was showing through this avenue how service of Islam can be rendered by many means to change and pacify the hearts of the members due to the behaviour of the administrators.
Advice from Hazrat KhilafatulMasih V [atba] Importance of MKA Slogan
"Nations cannot be reformed without the reforming its youth". ‘Therefore you must always ponder over this phrase and slogan—for it is no ordinary slogan. This slogan will continue to remind you to carry out self-analysis and the realisation that the progress of the Jama'at depends on our every action which will continue to persuade you to do what Allah has commanded you to do, and stop you from the vain that Allah has forbidden.’ The purpose of mentioning this was that Khuddam should understand and have the realisation of why reformation was required and its deeper meaning. Huzoor wanted us to realise that if our every act and conduct is towards good and honesty then it will be a source of joy and happiness for you. It will make you realise that we are fulfilling our pledge we made with the Imam of the time. This will allow the Majlis to excel in piety and then the true essence of sacrificing our life, property, time and honour will be without hesitation. This will lead to advancing towards a noble aim and attaining the pleasure of Allah due to the obedience shown to his beloved Khalifa who is the representative of Allah on this earth and is continuing the works of the prophet.
Defending Islam
‘One thing I want to say especially to the UK children and generally to all other children is that to reply to the baseless and absurd objections (against Islam) and to show the right picture of Islam to the world, the Ahmadi children should try to enter the field of media and for this journalism is a good subject. Furthermore all children, whether Waqfeen or non-Waqfeen, should always keep in mind that they have to advance in the academic field.’
compelled not to say anything against Islam. In the Jubilee year Hazrat Khilafatul-Masih III [rh] had asked for a certain number of scientists, I think he said 100 scientists from among Ahmadi children, who can attain the position like that of Dr Abdus Salam. So far we have not attained this number but you who are studying in these countries and are residing where you have all the opportunities, you must avail them and continue to attain higher grades.’ The Majlis should, via the relevant departments, organise seminars so that among educated people, many misunderstandings about Islam will soon be removed and new opportunities will be created for preaching.
Huzoor wants to create an army of men that understand the true objective of their creation which is to highlight the beautiful and peaceful teachings of Islam to the world. This will get rid of any misconceptions and the false notions of Islam that have been depicted by the west and unfortunately by some extremist Muslims. Huzoor wants to create a habit within children to educate themselves to the highest level so that advancement in academia can provide a route to show and depict the true teaching of Islam via Ahmadiyyat which provides the true and pristine revival of Islam which the Holy Prophet [saw] had brought.
Education and Research
‘Therefore I say to Ahmadi children that as well as paying much attention to their education they should also move forward in field of sciences and thus these people in the West will be compelled to assimilate you for the importance of the subject in which you have gained qualification. It shall also provide more opportunities for employment for those who have gained or are gaining higher education and skills in these subjects. Moreover this will also get rid of the false notion in the western people's minds (because of their false belief about Islam due to their self-concocted background) that these people (Muslims) are ignorant and illiterate.’ This will enlighten the name of Islam, and as I said, ‘these people will then be
Dr. Abdus Salam Huzoor wanted the attention of the youngsters to be diverted to doing work for the sake of Allah and hence safeguard the youngsters from ill vices of the world. By taking small, regular and continued steps towards good one will tread the path of piety and goodness. Huzoor’s (May Allah be his Helper) emphasis was that education within research within the West would create such platforms of engagement that will highlight the true Islamic teachings and one would ponder more greatly on the teachings of the Holy Qur’an. This would illuminate the mental faculties and understanding of researches and realise the fulfilment of the prophecies contained in the Qur’an in relation to science and hence the belief in Allah and Islam which can be shown to the
rest of the world via the youngsters of the community. This would be another way of rendering service to Islam and Ahmadiyyat.
Blessings of Ahmadiyyat - Why I am an Ahmadi
Every young man should take account of their environment and consider if they are treading the path which will eventually result in wiping out all good from their life; so that they can follow the path that will save them from the ills and lead them to a virtuous life. At their age, every Khadim can distinguish between good and bad for themselves. Huzoor stated: ‘I have reminded many times before that every Ahmadi youngster should display such maturity that they do not blindly follow the vain pursuits. He should rather consider the purpose of his life and the good or bad consequences of their actions.’ Huzoor wanted to create an understanding amongst the youngsters of why they are Ahmadies. This was for them to realise their true belief in Islam, prophecies of the Holy Prophet [saw] of the latter days in relation to the coming of the Mahdi and Messiah. This would allow Khuddam to go and read and ask appropriate questions to ascertain and understand their own belief. By doing this a Khadim could then teach and spread the truth about Islam and defend the truth of the Qur’anic injunctions, ahadith and also show the truth of the Promised Messiah [as] to the whole world.
Belief in Allah
Huzoor mentioned that ‘An Ahmadi should always put their trust only in the Almighty’. It is imperative that all youngsters understand their true purpose which is to realise the importance of creation and also its Creator. By doing this and understanding what Allah requires of us then youngsters will become role models for people and generations who would be joining this community in great numbers. By the example of the youngsters that show complete and utter belief in Allah this would help others especially those that join the community to attain full faith in God very quickly. Therefore we should realise that such Tariq Magazine

MKA History time is not far and is upon us; and we as Khuddamul Ahmadiyya should be striving for our own reformation and strengthening our faith by developing a spirit that manifests the ultimate belief in God. Only then will we be able to reform the new converts. Huzoor wanted us to realise that this world is a pastime and that the true reward is to win and attain the pleasure of Allah. This is why, in this era, an Ahmadi should become more steadfast in their belief in the existence of God and supplications so that a living bond can be created with Him. This would defy the beliefs of those who disbelieve
parents with respect. If one has complete faith in God, then all His commandments should be followed in full. The purpose is for the youth especially teenagers to remember that survival depends on abiding by God's teachings. Our freedom is confined within the boundaries set by God and His Prophet. Failing this, we will be denying God's existence and would gradually distance ourselves from our faith too. And the trust in Allah will also weaken hence for young impressionable minds of youngsters it is important to have an understanding of the true teachings of Islam and not be influenced by the negative attitude of friends, peers and the western culture which leads to disobeying the commandments of Allah.

the existence of God and allow you to educate them.
Respect
‘In the Western world, children often consider themselves free and independent of parents beyond a certain age.’ Huzoor reminded us that a duty of a child towards his parents and that we should continue to pray for them in these words i.e. 'My Lord, have mercy on them because they brought me up from a state of infancy'. On one hand you will be reminded to supplicate for your parents and on the other, belief that it is God who has endowed us with the bounty of parents in the state of fragility will be strengthened. Huzoor wanted to remind us that though living within the western society where laws provide plenty of opportunity for youngsters one should not neglect nor abuse the law to its advantage to do injustice to one’s parents. It is a commandment of God to treat

‘Every young Ahmadi should therefore make a self-assessment that to what extent do they follow the commandments of Allah.’ Ahmadi youngster should display such maturity that they do not blindly follow the vain pursuits of the world.
‘From the age of ten, Allah has made prayers obligatory; take care of your prayers and never be slack in them.’ Huzoor stated that one should rather consider the purpose of his life and the good or bad consequences of their actions. He should think why has Allah created him and why was he born in an Ahmadi family? Huzoor wanted Ahmadi youngsters who had an easy life to realise the sacrifices there forefathers and parents have made to pave the way for them to succeed in a society that gives them rights to practice their faith freely. Huzoor stated is turning away from commandments of Allah a freedom? Is ignoring the worship of Allah a freedom? Is failing to fulfil the rights of society a freedom? If this is named freedom then (listen) this is not freedom but ignorance. It is for Khuddam to understand the true purpose of their life and the importance of their faith so that a true and real union with Allah can be made and a revolutionary change can take place within the hearts of each and every individual. This is the true essence of selfreflecting and then acting in accordance with Allah’s commandments and creating a bond and personal attachment to Allah. This will allow true service to Allah’s creation and also realisation and obedience to Khilafat.
Prayers
‘From the age of ten, Allah has made prayers obligatory; take care of your prayers and never be slack in them.’ Huzoor laid great emphasis on prayers especially in congregation at the mosques so that true attachment and purpose of prayers can be realised. Huzoor also wanted to focus the attention towards youngsters understanding the etiquettes of observing salaat and the translation so that true understanding can be created
in the mind and soul of youngsters when they are communicating with Allah. Huzoor also focused on the recitation of the Qur'an with translation. This would then allow youngsters to become aware of Allah's commandments. By having the realisation that one must turn to Allah during good and difficult times it creates and inculcates a habit of communicating with Allah and creating a personal bond and relationship with his Maker and Creator who will answer the supplications of His believers. Huzoor wants to create such a bond of love amongst youngsters with Allah via prayers so that complete and utter submission is sought from Allah the Almighty who is the Sustainer and Provider for the needs of people and is Gracious and Merciful in His actions to His believers.
Obedience
‘Our success lies in holding fast to the rope of Allah and making sure that we obey the Khalifa and respect the Nizame-Jama'at.’ We are very lucky that we have believed in Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, the Promised Messiah [as] who loved his Holy Master the Holy Prophet Muhammad [saw]. The Promised Messiah [as] was given the glad tiding that after his death, in accordance with Allah's promises Khilafat would continue till the end of time. Khilafat is a great blessing for our Jama'at. We must thank Allah for this Gift. Therefore it is imperative and important for all Khuddam to understand the Divine blessings Allah has given to us in the form of Khilafat in comparison to other faiths and Muslims who are seeking for the Imam Mahdi and Messiah. We are lucky as we have one leader, one voice and part of one community that are following and treading on the truth of the message of Islam and Holy Prophet [saw]. Huzoor stated some of you of course write to me but you should all try and make it a habit to write to me as often as possible so that I can pray for you especially.
‘Hence, always remember that your every act should be for the purpose of winning Almighty Allah's pleasure and keeping the name of His religion aloft. If you unequivocally obey the Nizaame-Jama'at (system of the Jama'at), then the new Ahmadi converts through you will hold fast to the Nizaam-e-Jama'at.’ It is important that complete love and devotion to Khilafat will not only play a vital role in our own tarbiyyat and also tarbiyyat of others in particular new converts. Therefore one should have an understanding of Khilafat and create a personal relationship with the Khalifa of the time so that he can become recipients of the blessings of Khilafat and the prayers of the Khailfa in guiding towards ones moral and spiritual advancement.
Conduct of an Ahmadi
administrations Below are the services rendered under the various appointed heads of MKA to name a few that existed when the system of National Qaid evolved to Sadr Majlis. The below timeline tries to capture certain events that occurred in the UK. This shows the beauties and majesty of a Jama’at that is deeply rooted with the blessings of accepting the Imam of the age and also blessed with unity under one voice, one leader that is rightly guided by Allah the Almighty which is the blessings of Khilafat. Khawaja Rasheed Uddin Sahib was Qaid Khuddamul Ahmadiyya UK served as Qaid for a few years prior to Aslam Javed Sahib and had the fortune of visits from Hazrat Khilafatul-Masih
‘Then there is Husn-e-zunn (thinking good of others).’ Huzoor emphasised on the basis of how good relationships between several friends become sour when an atmosphere of mistrust and suspicion builds up. It is imperative that all relationships are dealt with absolute justice and honesty is integral to this dealing. Another major vice under the influence of this society that deserves a lot of concern, but unfortunately does not get sufficient attention, is the absence of Ghadh-e-basar (lowering of the eyes) not keeping one's gazes from looking at every indecent thing. Khuddams should understand the true essence and spirit of purdah and that it doesn’t only contain commandment for women but first is mention in Qur’an for men to lower their gazes and also avoid all such illvices of indecency through programmes shown on TV, Internet and other media outlets. ‘Thus, while it is imperative for every Jama'at member, I would also draw special attention of the youth to progress in virtues, Taqwa (righteousness) and worship. Be honest and fulfil the rights of trust, be steadfast in truthfulness, always be prepared to tell the truth and fulfil the rights of justice. Every Ahmadi should always try to march forward in fulfilling all of these forms of trust.’

Centenary
1889-1989—
Celebrate the establishment of 100 years of Jama’at Ahmadiyya a divinely guided Jama’at established by Allah via his Promised Messiah and Mahdi [as] whose coming was foretold by all scriptures and notably the most beloved Holy Prophet [saw] to reform and return the beauties of Islam. 6. Khilafat Centenray 1908-2008— Celebrate the many blessings of this institute that Allah the Almighty had promised Hazrat Masih-e-Maud [as] prior to his demise in 1905 when the book ‘the will’ was written. This blessing is testament to Allah’s favours upon the Jama’at that Khilafat exists amongst us whilst others are seeking it. 7. Promoting the establishment of divine scheme of wassiyyat which has been going on for over 100 years from 1905. 8. Hosting of 2 regional Ijtema’at where Hazrat Khilafatul-Masih V [atba] has attended in North East Region and Muqami Region which have never occurred before in the History of MKA UK. 9. Helping Jama’at with Mosque openings, logistics and preparation for inaugurations and making of mosques. 10. Helping Humanity First with disaster relief projects so that active service is provided to mankind via this NGO that was established by Khilafatul-Masih IV [rh]. 11. Publication of books and magazines such as Tariq Magazine, Fazle Umar and future publications to educate and enhance the knowledge of the Majlis about companions and khulafa of Islam and Ahmadiyyat . 12. Celebrate 75 years of MKA establishment in 2013 and educate the true vision of what Hazrat Musleh Maud [ra] wanted from the youth in terms of reforming nations. . 12. 25 years establishment of Tariq Magazine which has been the main organ of communication via publication for the Majlis in the UK. Recently at 2012 MKA UK Majlis Shura 2012 Hazrat Khilafatul-Masih
[atba] drew the attention of the Majlis again towards its great responsibility of serving the faith, staying true to the pledge of Khuddamul Ahmadiyya and always remaining true to khilafat. Huzoor [atba] also expounded on the beauties of the motto of the organisation and that how one should be fulfilling this responsibility as it is a service and also have this embedded truly within them so a true reformation can occur. Huzoor [atba] also laid the challenge that MKA UK should become the best MKA in the world and epitomise what is required to achieve this by fulfilling the desires of KhilafatulMasih. May we Insh’Allah be able to live to the lofty standards Hazrat Khilafatul-Masih has of MKA UK and truly bring about a revolutionary change and reformation in us and the nation as was desired by our founding father Hazrat Musleh Maud [ra]. We pale in significance to what is required but look towards reaching nearness to Allah the Almighty to allow us to serve the Jama’at of his beloved Promised Messiah and Mahdi [as] to propagate the true teachings of Islam and Holy Prophet [saw] to the ends of the earth. As Hazrat Musleh Maud [ra] stated once that a time will come where emissaries, kings and governments will come to ask for guidance from the Khulafa and such meetings of the Jama’at will be more important than those of the UN and people will want to offer and render their services for Islam and Ahmadiyyat. How fortunate will you be for those whose forefathers had forsaken to undertake the task of serving the faith and when they ask to serve they will be told “No”. Therefore we must always hear and obey the advice of our beloved khulafa and as the Qur’an states that:
Say, ‘My Prayer and my sacrifice and my life and my death are all for Allah, the Lord of the worlds. He has no partner. And so am I commanded, and I am the first of those who submit.’ (CH.6 : V.163 -164).’ Tariq Magazine

Huzoor [ra] highlighted the importance of statistics, keeping records and giving them due importance. Huzoor [ra] mentioned that such statistics are a thermometer for checking the health of a nation or Jama’at. • Huzoor [ra] said it is a sign of immorality if some inactive person is made a leader. • The purpose of establishment of MKA was to enable youngsters’ development in faith and become deserving to be given respect. But MKA haven’t learnt much from past incidents and due to your or our mistakes, some obstacles have been created which no 23rd, 24th, 25th Oct 1953 one can break now except God. If you believe that you will be able to break them through planning then it is wrong. Only God Rabwah can break those walls if He wills and the only way to achieve that is for you to focus on prayers, offer Tahajjud and indulge in remembrance of Allah. These are the means to break such walls and to succeed. • Khuddamul Ahmadiyya organisation is for your training so that when you get an opportunity to serve, then you should have enough expertise and ability to become Amir or Secretary. That’s why you should cooperate with Jamat officeholders instead of confrontation. • Huzoor [ra] had a dream in the night of 24th and 25th October and despite his illness, he came to Ijtema gah again in the morning of 25th and delivered a very faith inspiring address on the importance and relevance of Khilafat. • Huzoor [ra] again delivered a brief concluding address in the afternoon and left Ijtema gah instructing organisers to continue the remaining program. Later, Hadhart Mirza Nasir Ahmed [rh], then Naib Sadr Awwal, delivered final address, distributed prizes and repeated Khuddam pledge to conclude the program.

European Ijtema
1. 1984 Hounslow, UK
Although the larger Jama'ats such as the UK and Germany were well established, there was a need to bring the smaller Jama'ats to the same level, and to create a catalyst for joint activity across the Continent. These instructions were duly implemented on the 27th, 28th and 29th July 1984 and the UK was given the honour of hosting the very first European Ijtema at the Heathlands School in Hounslow. Huzoor attended the Ijtema and was pleased with the arrangements. The Ijtema took Khuddamul Ahmadiyya to the next stage as it allowed Khuddam from various parts of the Continent to meet and share experiences, and particularly enabled those from countries with a small tajneed (number of Khuddam) to participate in such a major event. Other European Ijtema’at followed and were organised in the following venues:

The Life and Character of the Seal of the Prophetss Chapter - VIII By Hazrat Mirza Bashir Ahmad [ra] Sixth part of the English rendering of Hazrat Mirza Bashir Ahmad’s [ra] magnus opus, “Seerat Khatamun Nabiyyin”, an outstanding biography on the life of the Founder of Islam, the Holy Prophet Muhammad [saw].
Battle of Uhud – Shawwal 3 A.H. (March 624 A.D.) As a result of the Battle of Badr, the grievous mourning which broke out in Makkah has already been alluded to in the events of the battle mentioned previously. The chieftains of the Quraish had taken vows that they would not rest until they had avenged those who had fallen at Badr. Moreover, their passion for revenge had been further inflamed by the secret incitement of the treacherous Jews of Madinah. As such, after the Battle of Badr the Quraish of Makkah began to severely incite the other tribes against the Muslims and even themselves, constantly laying in ambush so that whenever an opportunity presented itself, they could attack the Muslims and crush them. The repeated mobilisation of the Banu Sulaim and Banu Ghatafan with the motive of attacking Madinah, which has already been discussed above, was primarily a result of the incitement of the Quraish of Makkah. Even the Ghazwah of Sawiq, where Abu Sufyan had proposed to attack Madinah at night, was also a link in this very chain. By the Grace of God, since the Quraish were made to incur humiliation in this Ghazwah, their passion for revenge was further ignited. In order to keep their dignity before the rest of Arabia, although they proclaimed that their vow had been fulfilled, in their hearts they knew that the Ghazwah of Sawiq had embossed another blemish of disgrace upon their foreheads. Hence,
after this they began to prepare for war with even greater zeal and fury. As such, the Battle of Uhud which we are about to mention now, was the outcome of this very preparation. The revenues generated by the trade caravan which has been mentioned in the events of the Battle of Badr, amounted to 50,000 dinars.1 This amount was still secure in Darun-Nadwah according to the decision of the chieftains of Makkah, in order to prepare for an attack against the Muslims.2 Now, this money was brought out and preparation for war began with full force and effort.3 Had it not been for the vigilance and precautionary measures of the Holy Prophet [saw], the Muslims would not have even known of this preparation and the disbelieving army would have reached the very doorsteps of the Muslims. In other words, the Holy Prophet [saw] had emphatically instructed his paternal uncle, ‘Abbas bin ‘Abdul-Muttalib, who in his heart was with the Holy Prophet [saw], to remain in Madinah, and he would inform the Holy Prophet [saw] of the movements of the Quraish.4 As such, on this occasion as well, ‘Abbas bin ‘Abdul-Muttalib dispatched a swift rider from the Banu Ghifar towards Madinah, promising him a hefty reward and thus informing the Holy Prophet [saw] of this motive of the Quraish, by means of a letter.5 Furthermore, he strictly emphasised to this emissary that he should convey this letter to the
Holy Prophet [saw] within three days. Incidentally, when the emissary reached Madinah, the Holy Prophet [saw] had gone to Quba’, which was situated on the outskirts of Madinah. The emissary pursued the Holy Prophet [saw] to Quba’ and presented this closed letter to him. The Holy Prophet [saw] immediately handed this letter to his personal scribe Ubaiyy bin Ka‘b Ansarira and instructed him to read out the letter. When Ubaiyyra read out the letter, it contained the horrific news that a fierce army of the Quraish was approaching from Makkah. Upon hearing this, the Holy Prophet [saw] strictly instructed Ubaiyy bin Ka‘bra to keep the contents of the letter confidential.6 Thereafter, upon returning to Madinah, the Holy Prophet [saw] dispatched two Companions on the road to Makkah, in order to obtain intelligence with regards to the army of the Quraish. It was perhaps on this occasion that in order to gauge the number and strength of the Muslims, the Holy Prophet [saw] instructed that a census of the entire Muslim population be conducted. Thus, the census was conducted and it was ascertained that a total of 1,500 Muslims lived in Madinah at the time. Under the circumstances of that era, this figure was considered to be a substantial one. In the zeal of their joy, some Companions went so far as to say, “Now that our number has reached 1,500, do we have anything to fear?” However, one Companion from among these very people said, “After this we Tariq Magazine

were confronted with such trying times that on various occasions we were even compelled to offer our Salaat in hiding.”7 On another occasion as well, the Holy Prophet [saw] instructed that a census be conducted and at that time, the figure obtained was between 600 and 700.8 Perhaps toward the end of Ramadan 3 A.H., or the beginning of Shawwal, the army of the Quraish set out from Makkah. Many champions from other tribes of Arabia were also a part of the army.9 Abu Sufyan was the commander of the army. This was an army of 3,000 men, among whom 700 warriors were clad in armour. There was also ample means of conveyance; 200 horses and 3,000 camels.10 Equipment of war was also more than adequate. Some women also rode along, of whom Hind, the wife of Abu Sufyan; the wives of Ikramah bin Abu Jahl, Safwan bin Umaiyyah, Khalid bin Walid, ‘Amr bin Al-‘As; and the idolatrous mother of Mus‘ab bin ‘Umairra are especially worthy of mention. 11 According to the ancient custom of Arabia, these women had brought along their musical instruments, so that they could sing motivational couplets and beat their drums, in order to rouse the spirits of their men. After a journey of about ten or eleven days, this army of the Quraish reached close to Madinah, circled to the north of Madinah and stopped near the mount of

Uhud. The lush, green field of ‘Arid was situated nearby, where the animals of Madinah would graze and some farming also took place here. Before anything else, the Quraish raided this pasture and wreaked havoc in it to their hearts’ content. 12 When the Holy Prophet [saw] received news from his informants that the army of the Quraish had reached nearby, he sent a Companion named Habbab bin Mundhirra to obtain information as to the enemy’s number and strength.13 Moreover, the Holy Prophet [saw] also emphasised that if the strength of the enemy was greater than their own and the Muslims were in a state of danger, Habbabra should not announce this news openly upon his return in the gathering; rather, he should convey this news privately, so that no one was disheartened.Habbabra quietly left and returned with great skill in a short period of time submitting his report to the Holy Prophet [saw].14 It was now Thursday and news of the arrival of the army of the Quraish had spread throughout Madinah. Their raid on ‘Arid had also become widely known. Although the masses had not been given detailed knowledge with respect to the army of the disbelievers, even so, this night in Madinah was one of great fear and danger. Select Companions guarded the home of the Holy Prophet [saw] all night long.15 The following day was
a Friday. The Holy Prophet [saw] gathered the Muslims and sought their counsel with regards to this attack of the Quraish; whether they should remain in Madinah, or set out to fight the enemy.16 ‘Abdullah bin Ubaiyy bin Sulul, who was actually a hypocrite, but after the Battle of Badr had become a Muslim at the outset, was also a part of this consultative meeting and this was the first occasion upon which the Holy Prophet [saw] invited him to participate in consultation. Prior to beginning, the Holy Prophet [saw] mentioned the attack of the Quraish and their deadly intentions. Then, the Holy Prophet [saw] said, “Last night in my dream, I saw a cow and I also saw that the tip of my sword had broken.17 Then, I saw the cow being slaughtered and I also saw that I had placed my hand in a secure and strong coat of mail.”18 It has also been related in one narration that the Holy Prophet [saw] said, “I saw as if I was mounted on the back of a ram.”19 The Companions inquired, “O Messenger of Allah! How have you interpreted this dream?” The Holy Prophet [saw] responded: “I have understood the slaughtering of the cow to infer that some of my Companions shall be martyred and it seems as if the breaking of the tip of my sword is an indication towards the martyrdom of someone from among my relatives,20 or perhaps I shall myself suffer an injury in this campaign.21 As for
placing my hand in a coat of mail, I have understood this to infer that in order to fend off this attack, it is more appropriate for us to remain in Madinah.”22
coming with his arms, clad in double the armour, and his helmet, etc., their regret grew even more. They almost unanimously submitted:
The Holy Prophet [saw] interpreted the dream of himself being mounted on a ram to symbolise the leader of the army of the Quraish, i.e., its flag-bearer – who would, God-willing, be slain at the hands of the Muslims.23 After this, the Holy Prophet [saw] sought the counsel of his Companions, as to what should be done in the current state of affairs. Upon weighing the pros and cons of the situation at hand and perhaps being somewhat swayed by the dream of the Holy Prophet [saw], some of the prominent Companions submitted the opinion that it was more appropriate to remain in Madinah and fight. ‘Abdullah bin Ubaiyy bin Sulul, chief of the hypocrites, proposed the same. The Holy Prophet [saw] also preferred this proposal and said, “It seems more beneficial for us to stay in Madinah and fight them.” However, a majority of the Companions and especially those young men who had not participated in the Battle of Badr, who were restless to receive an opportunity to serve the religion by means of their own martyrdom, very forcefully insisted that they should go forth from the city and fight in an open field.24 This group presented their opinion with such persistence that upon witnessing their zeal, the Holy Prophet [saw] accepted their proposal and decided that the Muslims would fight the disbelievers in an open field. After the Friday Prayer, the Holy Prophet [saw] publicly urged the Muslims to attain spiritual reward through Jihad in the cause of Allah, by participating in this Ghazwah. Thereafter, the Holy Prophet [saw] retired to his residence, where he tied his turban, put on his equipment and took his arms with the assistance of Hazrat Abu Bakr [ra] and Hazrat ‘Umar [ra], and came out in the name of Allah. However, during this time, due to the admonishment of Sa‘d bin Mu‘adhra, chief of the Aus tribe and other prominent Companions, the party of young men began to realise their mistake; in that they should not have insisted upon their own opinion in opposition to the view of God’s Messenger and most of them were now inclined towards remorse. When these people saw the Holy Prophet [saw]
“O Messenger of Allah! We have committed a mistake in insisting upon our own view over your own. You should employ whatever strategy you deem most appropriate. GodWilling, it shall be most blessed.” The Holy Prophet [saw] said, “It does not befit a Prophet of God to put on his arms and then lay them down before God issues forth a verdict.”25 So go forth now, in the name of Allah and if you are steadfast, then be certain that the succour of Allah the Exalted shall be with you.”26 After this, the Holy Prophet [saw] instructed that three flags be prepared for the Muslim army. The flag of the Aus tribe was entrusted to Usaid bin AlHudairra, the flag of the Khazraj tribe was entrusted to Habbab bin Mundhirra and the flag of the Muhajirin was entrusted to Hazrat ‘Ali [ra]. Then, after appointing ‘Abdullah bin Ummi Maktumra as the Imamus-Salaat in Madinah and observing ‘Asr Salaat, the Holy Prophet [saw] set out from Madinah with a large community of the Companions. The chieftains of the Aus and Khazraj tribe, Sa‘d bin Mu‘adhra and Sa‘d bin ‘Ubadahra proceeded along, running slowly, just ahead of the mount of the Holy Prophet [saw], and the rest of the Companions moved forward positioned to the right, left and behind the Holy Prophet [saw].27 The mountain of Uhud is situated approximately three miles to the north of Madinah. At the half-way mark, at a place known as ‘Shaikhain,’ the Holy Prophet [saw] halted and ordered the inspection of the Muslim army. Minors who had come along in their eagerness to participate in Jihad were sent back.28 Accordingly, ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umarra, Usamah bin Zaidra and Abu Sa‘id Khudrira, among others, were all sent back. Rafi‘ bin Khadijra was also the same age as these children, but possessed great skill in archery. Due to this quality of his, his father interceded on his behalf before the Holy Prophet [saw] so that he may be permitted to participate in this Jihad. When the Holy Prophet [saw]
lifted his sights towards Rafi‘, he took a firm stance at attention in the likeness of warriors, so that he could appear strong and tall. As such, this plan succeeded and the Holy Prophet [saw] granted him permission to ride along. Upon this, another child by the name of Samrah bin Jandabra who had been ordered to return, went to his father and said: “If Rafi‘ has been granted permission, then I should be permitted as well, because I am stronger than Rafi‘ and can put him down in a bout of wrestling.” The father was overjoyed at the sincerity of his son; both father and son presented themselves before the Holy Prophet [saw] and the father presented the desire of his son. The Holy Prophet [saw] smiled and said, “Alright then, let Rafi‘ra and Samrahra wrestle one another, so that we may determine who is the stronger of the two.” Thus, the competition took place; Samrahra took hold of Rafi‘ra and threw him to the ground in an instant. The Holy Prophet [saw] granted Samrahra permission to come along as well and this innocent child was delighted.29 Now that evening had arrived, Bilalra called the Adhan and all of the Companions offered their Salaat behind the Holy Prophet [saw]. Then, the Muslims set up camp for the night at this very place. The Holy Prophet [saw] appointed Muhammad bin Maslamah [ra] to arrange security for the night; alongside a group of fifty Companions he circled the Muslim army and stood guard all night long.30

Messages from Hazrat Khilafatul Masih iv [rh] A collection of extracts from addresses delivered to Khuddam and Atfal at Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya Ijtema’at and Atfal Rallies.
Tabligh 1997
“No matter how many lectures you give to someone on how to swim, telling him this is how you have to make strokes, and this is how to move your legs, and this is how to keep your body flat, no matter whether he does a Ph.D. in the subject, he will drown if you throw him in the water. Just by acquiring academic knowledge of swimming, you may study the history of the world, you will find that without practice the scholar will drown when he enters deep water. This is the law of nature. You will have to lead them by the hand to set them in Tabligh work. You hould finalise methods, ponder and divide the work, then whoever wants to do Tabligh you need so much manpower to support them. With all the work, so much manpower develops that the organisation spreads over the whole country. But tell them in the very beginning that we are not those Muslims who want to convert people with the sword. We are not those who explode aircraft. We are not those who believe that hearts can be changed with the power of sword. We are the ones whom they have attempted to change with the force of the sword. We have let our necks be severed but we have not changed. We will change others with the brain and with logical argument. First you must introduce yourself and then ask how many are interested. Then say that we desire, for example, to donate a free copy of the Holy Qur’an in your
library. May Allah enable us that we should organise our work and every Ameer should know that my day today is better than yesterday. Today more than before, with the Grace of Allah, I have the strength to do my duty. You must not forget prayers which I will continue to remind you of. Every work becomes easy with prayer. Without prayer the highest possible device can become useless. In the spiritual world, the prayer has the station of being the cause of all causes.”
Preaching 1996
“May I just say that when someone works in a field, then it is the ‘bite ‘that gives him new strength. By the word ‘bite’I mean with reference to cricket. When a bowler has a bite in the beginning, then he becomes unplayable, a new bowler is born out of him and he dominates the game from then on. If he doesn’t get the bite then he becomes dull and just a nonentity without any potential to change the result of that particular game. So you see them crest-fallen trying their efforts as best as they can but always defeated and tired in their attitude. But those who have bites, they rise and they become gigantic and as such they feel as if they can always do it. Never again will they meet with failure. But next time they do. The difference between a good Dai illallah organiser and these people is that there is a quality of permanence about those who have a ‘bite’in religious affairs. Once God gives them this, they never lose this quality. They go on increasing rather than losing it.”
Ijtema 1991 – The importance of Wudhu
“A Muslim must know how to say his prayers and his responsibilities relating to the prayer,Wudhu and how it breaks, and how to make the prayer better, healthier and more acceptable to God and what injures the validity of prayer. I am deeply concerned with Ahmadi Muslims, with preliminary things, that are the foundation and the backbone.”
Ijtema 1992 – The importance of Obligations of a Qaid
“Generations benefit from previous generations and, we should be mindful to them. A time will come when future incoming Qaideen and, office bearers will be getting prizes where a lot of labour from previous Qaideen would have been put in. May we progress from achievements we have already made to higher and noble achievements.”
Ijtema 1993 – Addiction to Prayer
“On certain areas where progress should have been made much more rapidly, there is something lacking which continues to worry me. I will not be satisfied as your leader, until all of you become addicted to prayer. The Holy Prophet Muhammad’s [saw] addiction to prayer was like fish in water, this was the source of all his happiness and strength.” “Namaz is one of those things that keeps me worried and, I will never Tariq Magazine
29
Messages from Hazrat Khilafatul-Masih IV [rh] become satisfied until Khuddam become namazis. If they can’t find a mosque to go to, to do their 5 daily prayers congregational prayers, then at least I should have the satisfaction to know that they perform their prayers in their homes and ask their brothers and sisters to participate and, make small mosques in their homes. If that happens then they will come closer to the purpose of our creation. If you become a worshipper that is the beginning of the journey. We must improve the quality of our prayer, because if you analyse your prayer you will see that you have fallen here and there. I repeatedly come to the topic of prayer, don’t be fed up at this because if you become fed up of the subject of prayer you are fed up of life. It is the source of life it is eternity.”
Ijtema 1995 – How Islam ends division of all kinds
“It should be borne in mind that Ahmadiyyat itself is not divided into groups but may be likened to a bouquet of different flowers, where each different flower represents a particular ethnic group. This year’s Ijtema reflects this, as there are many newcomers who are drawn from various walks of life and represent (in their origins) different nationalities. This is a very encouraging sign and it is important that in this way that we all become embodied into one single entity, the entity of Ahmadiyyat, where all differences in our cultural, racial and geographical backgrounds are left at home as we come together to attend (as one entity) any Jama’at event.
Ijtema 1996 – Responsibilities of a Daeen Illalah
“I want to remind you of your responsibility as Daeen Illallah. So this is one which not only Khuddamul Ahmadiyya UK is lagging far behind, but the entire Jama’at UK is lagging far behind. I have tried repeatedly to awaken you, to stir you up to life, but somehow it is this area - of preaching - where you feel very shy. While you require it most. Because God has so ordained, that Khilafatul-Masih, after he had to leave his headquarters, chose the UK as his markaz. To live here most of the year.To remain with you, to be available to you throughout. Day in and day out. So it is not a very good compliment to you.To express your gratitude to Allah for this advantage, unique advantage, which he has granted you” “I want you to wake up. I want each of you to be productive and produce one more Ahmadi. So it is highly essential for the UK to keep up with the world pace of the growth of Ahmadiyyat. If you are negligent of your duty, you should remember that you may cause great damage to the cause of Ahmadiyyat. Because for the same reason, that I counted among the special blessings of Allah, my presence here is particularly hurting the enemies of Ahmadiyyat and they have turned England into the seat of opposition. All the intrigues which are being cooked are largely cooked in the United Kingdom, outside Pakistan I mean. So when the enemy is redoubling it’s efforts to defeat Ahmadiyyat and arrest it’s passage. If you do not react with as much will, resolution and honesty and sincerity of purpose, then you are not a live Jama’at.” “There is no doubt about it, no shadow of doubt, that it is Allah’s Will that is done. But Allah favours those who do it with a will of their own. It is the resolution of the believers which is made here on Earth, which rebounds from the Heavens; and then things happen to move and be realised. But if the resolution is not born in your hearts, if your minds are not made up with a definite resolution that we must perform this deed, whatever may happen, then the heavenly will does not move along with your lacklustre move, half-hearted move, it does not care for that.”

Tariq Magazine
“You are the
backbone of the future generations of Ahmadis in this country, and if you wake up to your responsibilities, as I have repeatedly expected of you and told you in so many words” “If you continuously pray for yourself and pray not only for this purpose, but also pray regularly, like the Muslims are expected to pray. Five times a day at least.Tahujud if it is possible. So become a realistic meaningful Muslim, and then Insh’Allah, things will happen at your hands which even will amaze you when they happen. Because there are very big things that are going to happen, Insh’Allah if you awake.” “You are the backbone of the future generations of Ahmadis in this country, and if you wake up to your responsibilities, as I have repeatedly expected of you and told you in so many words. Then Insh’Allah a revolution will begin here from this soil, which is spread to all the western countries.”
Second Ijtema 1996 – To pray for oneself
“I know from my experience that if Ahmadis are approached properly in the name of Allah or Jama’at,they will always respond because, they are sleeping (i.e -they are not dead). Ahmadis have the natural inclination to respond to the call of God, but it must reach them in the right way.” I would advise you to continue to pray for yourself and promise that you pray for yourself and ask for Allah’s help to worship Him I want you to taste the
“The responsibility is not only of Khuddamul Ahmadiyya, the responsibility of taking care of children is jointly shared by the parents, by the Jama’at as such and by the auxiliary organisations like Khuddamul Ahmadiyya, Ansarullah, etc” Telling the truth, shun falsehood:
response to prayers by Allah. So the best thing to do is to start praying and find time during your daily pursuit to remember God. Beg Allah to give you a taste of acceptance of prayer. Begin to pray by thinking of the favours bestowed by Allah and sending Darood upon Hazrat Muhammad [saw] “May Allah give all of you who have participated in the Ijtema a new birth and may you have many happy returns to goodness.”
Ijtema 1998 – Self-Reformation
“A new spiritual birth in life leads to full consciousness of yourself. This spiritual rebirth is the only answer to all your problems, unless you create a new Ahmadi in yourself, you cannot perform your responsibilities to Ahmadiyyat and Islam.”
Atfal Rally 1993 – The young and prayer
“When I was going to prayer this morning I saw that a large number of children slept in this very hall. I stood and watched for a while and saw that most of them had already gone for prayer to the mosque and the remaining were preparing to do so. This made me very happy and I also observed all the Atfal in the mosque to see if there were any signs of tiredness at being awakened so early to go to the prayer. I found no signs of any displeasure. All were happy and willingly participating. This is most encouraging for the future generations of Ahmadiyyat which is you. If you continue to be brought up in this excellent manner
Insh’Allah by the Grace of Allah, the future of Ahmadiyyat in this country will be even brighter.” The importance of physical fitness
“Apart from this I would like to remind the administration to teach you some lessons in your moral conduct. The most important thing is to keep you informed and reminded that lies are a type of shirk, like calling partners besides Allah. A Muslim must never tell a lie, not even in a joke. This should be your firm habit which should have no lapse anywhere, in every sphere of your activities. See to it that you never tell lies.Whenever you are tempted to tell lies you should remember that it is a heinous crime and Allah does
“May Allah give all of you who have participated in the Ijtema a new birth and may you have many happy returns to goodness.”
“Therefore, I want you to fill your hearts with special zeal for games and sports and other outdoor events, as I wish that Ahmadis should grow up not just as great scholars, who are already being groomed to be leaders in education, but I also want Ahmadis to excel in other fields such as sports. Mental and spiritual health is deeply linked to physical health. If you maintain your physical health it will help your mental health. It is not necessary for a spiritually healthy person to be physically fit but if he is, it will certainly help him. Older people have been saying prayers all their life with deep personal attachment yearning for the days when they could say their prayers without getting tired, and gain more pleasure. However, due to ailments in old age they cannot say their prayers with ease as they used to in their younger days. Physical health does help the spiritually strong to do good deeds and worship God.
not like His servants to tell lies. Because to tell lies is inconsistent with your claim that you believe in God.When you tell lies you believe in Satan instead, because lies come from Satan and truth comes from God; that is why one of the names or attributes of God is ‘Truth’,AI-Haq ”
Atfal Rally 1997 – Sura Fatiha
Kind treatment to others
“When you learn Islam, Sura Fatiha becomes the most central to it. It plays the pivotal role in teaching you what Islam is; because of this it is called the mother of the whole Qur’an. So from the mother is born the child which carries all the characteristics which the parents have.” Case of the young:
“To behave towards your fellow human beings, towards your fellow children, with kindness, with respect, not calling each other bad names, not to bully the weaker among you, not to deal with the weak among you with bullish habits. Respect the weak. When you learn to respect the weak then you will Tariq Magazine
31
Messages from Hazrat Khilafatul-Masih IV [rh] always respect the strong as well. To respect the strong only becomes piety or righteousness only when you respect the weak. If you show no respect to the weak then the respect you show to the strong above you is a mark of your cowardice, not a mark of your honour. Every man respects the strong above him who is stronger and can beat him if he does not pay proper respect to him. So if you respect the strong while you do not respect the weak, your respect of the strong is a sign of weakness in you, not of strength.”
Atfal Rally 1998 – Sura Fatiha
“Surah Fatiha and remembering its meaning should be emphasised as much as possible, year after year after year. Without Surah Fatiha you cannot become a basic Muslim. Surah Fatiha is the Mother of the Holy Qur’an. And Surah Fatiha teaches everything that you should beg of God. Surah Fatiha should be memorised in a manner along with its translation, so you should not translate mentally what you are reciting in Arabic. It should appear to you systematically like you are saying it in English.”
Huzoor’s Last Ijtema Address: 2000
“Are there enough among you who understand the nimaaz (prayers) and read it with concentration, and read it so that every time, every nimaaz opens questions for you? Have you gained anything? Have you improved in any quality from the previous nimaaz? But there will be few among you who do pay justice to the nimaaz as taught to us by Hazrat Muhammad Mustapha [saw] It’s a very long way to go, first of all to understand the meaning of nimaaz, secondly to make it as if it’s your own language, say it so repeatedly that it automatically becomes your own language, and rises not only from your brain, when you translate it, but from your heart. In performing Salaat you address God as if He is standing before you. This is what worries me—and has always worried me—what is the purpose of these Ijtema’at, and this show business, and grand galas, if the essential purpose of the performance of nimaaz is not achieved? It’s a very difficult task, I’ll agree. Khuddamul Ahmadiyya has to
32
Tariq Magazine
awaken you repeatedly, knock at the doors of your hearts, which I hope Khuddamul Ahmadiyya does. But it is you who are sitting before me who know better whether this purpose is achieved by Khuddamul Ahmadiyya or not. So I hope you will carry back the memory of this address in your hearts, and always try to perform nimaaz in the best of manners. Again, another factor that worries me is the recitation of the Holy Qur’an. I doubt if most of you always recite a portion of the Holy Qur’an daily after the morning prayer. And that is not enough, just to recite parrot fashion. The important thing is to learn the meaning of the Qur’an, and that can be done with the help of regular translations, in the beginning. But gradually this should be improved so that the language of the Qur’an becomes your own language in which you speak. For that, the knowledge of Arabic is essential, but I know it’s very difficult for most of you to become Arabic scholars. But you can repeatedly pay attention to the translation so that, by going through the translation, you understand the meaning of the Qur’an. Now, the Qur’an has many layers of meanings. First of all, the apparent meanings—most of you don’t know the apparent meaning of the Qur’an, unfortunately. Then to go deeper and deeper and deeper and understand the Qur’an, so that it becomes clear to you that this is a book revealed by Allah to Prophet Muhammad [saw] It’s not a man-made forgery. It speaks of so many wonders, of the past and the future. It speaks of every scientific subject and explains what’s happening in the universe, and what is happening within you, so much so that, once you’re wonder-struck by the Qur’an, you’ll also be captured by its beauty. And then the Qur’an will always lead you, you can walk hand-in-hand with the Qur’an, and then you can see God within yourself and outside, around you in nature. So this is a very important message to you—a great, difficult message indeed but unless you do it, you will not become a true Ahmadi Muslim. It’s good to hear loud slogans such as ‘Narahetakbir’,‘Allahu-akbar’,‘Allahu-akbar’it is scintillating. But it’s meaningless if these Narahs (slogans) did not reach
“Surah Fatiha and remembering its meaning should be emphasised as much as possible, year after year after year. Without Surah Fatiha you cannot become a basic Muslim” Allah’s Throne, and on this Hazrat Rasoolullah once said—at a time when the companions were loudly proclaiming the Oneness of Allah, and repeatedly extolling Him as One, the Best, the Greatest—Rasoolullah [saw] turned to them and said: Don’t do it so high. For that particular journey it was required that they should do it in their hearts and understand what they are saying. He said:Your voice cannot reach the seven heavens, but your heart’s voice can, because Allah knows it. It does not have to be raised to the seventh sky. But Allah descends upon your heart and makes it a seventh sky So this is the general instruction to Khuddam, and I am worried about it, that we have a long, long way to go. I hope, with this short address, I should end this speech and pray for all of you who are participating here, that you listen to all my instructions of the past and the future, and try to act upon them. Allah bless you all, may you return home safely, and your journey would be safer if you stet your heart with Allah, and Allah keeps your heart with Him. Then, whatever happens, you will go straight to God and be received in His Arms like a child is received back in the arms of her mother. Allah bless you all.
A Man of God In Search of You Hazrat Musleh Maud [ra] said: 1. “ Do you know what it means to work hard? Work so hard that you work up to 13-14 hours a day? 2. D o you know how to speak the truth? That no matter what the circumstances, you could never tell a lie. In front of you even your closest friends and dearest relatives are not able to tell a lie. And if somebody narrates a false story of one’s bravery you couldn’t help but show your disgust. 3. A re you free of all false standards of self-respect? Can you sweep the streets? Can you walk the streets with loads on your shoulders? With a loud voice can you make various announcements in public places? Can you walk for the whole day and keep awake for the whole night? 4. C an you do E'tikaaf, meaning: (a) to sit at one place for a number of days; (b) to sit for hours praying, and (c) to refrain from talking to anyone for hours and days. 5. A re you able to travel? Alone, carrying your own baggage and without any money in your pocket, among enemies and opponents, among strangers and non-acquainted people? For days, weeks and months? 6. D o you accept that there are some people who are above all types of defeat? They do not even like to hear the word defeat. They are willing to cut through mountains, they are ready to hold back the flow of the rivers. Do you think that you can be ready for such a sacrifice? 7. D o you have the courage that when the entire world says “No”, you say “ Yes”. All around you people laugh at you, yet you remain composed. People run after you and say, "Wait, we are going to kill you", and instead of running away you sto p and with great humbleness you say, "Here, kill me." You listen to no one, as you know the people utter falsehoods, but you should convince them all because you are truthful. 8. Y ou should not say, “I worked hard, but God Almighty has failed me”. Instead in each failure you blame your own self. You should firmly believe that whoever works hard will succeed and whoever does not succeed has not worked at all. 9. I f you are like this then you have the potential to be a good preacher and a good businessman. But where are you? A man of God has been in search of you for a very long time. O Youth of Ahmadiyyat! Search for this person in your province, in your city, in your surroundings and in your hearts - since the tree of Islam is withering away and only with his blood will it once again flourish.” Tariq Magazine

Nu’man ibn Bashir reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The parable of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is that of a body; when any limb of it aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever.” Sahih Muslim
