The site for this building is the southern Phoenix warehouse district. Although the area has undergone recent growth in some ways, the majority of the district remains to rust and deteriorate. The Reclaimed Studio seeks to take back this old part of the city and give new life to old materials. The site is reclaimed through several means. The existing parking garage is re-purpased as an architecture school providing flexible use of space. The site collects water runoff from the monsoon season and holds it in a riparian habitat. Walking trails, garden space and study areas are open to architecture students and the public alike. Solar is collected through a series of panels on top of the structure. A rooftop cafe and event center fill an important need for the area, and draw people from Phoenix and its surrounding cities. Most importantly, old, local materials are reclaimed and given new life and purpose.
