On Monday April 13, 1925, Deacon Clayton Wade was born to the late Della Ozzie and Clifton Festus Wade in Blakely Georgia. Clayton received his early education in the Blakely school system. Later, Clayton dreamed of being a sailor and sailing the ports of the world. He enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed in Norfolk Virginia where he met the love of his life, a beautiful vivacious young woman named Mary Worsley. After an exciting 3 weeks whirlwind courtship Clayton and Mary, realizing that they were destined to be lifetime partners, wed in holy matrimony. Their three children include Sharon Wade-Spearman the late Shelley Wade-Foster-Plush and Clayton Andre Wade. After serving on the fighter Escort Ship “Fullam” in Japan during World War II, Clayton retired from the United States Navy and became employed as a research analyst by the Nopco Chemical Corporation now known as the BASF Corporation. Before and after retirement Deacon Clayton Wade and his beloved Mary enjoyed traveling to exotic destinations. They loved cruising the high seas with their children and members of their Fellowship Church Travel Club. Clayton was predeceased by his beloved spouse, Mary. He often lamented of the time when he would be able to join his wife Mary in their heavenly home. It is ironic that Deacon Wade transitioned on January 9, 2017 only two years and two days of the passing of his beloved Mary on January 7, 2015. Deacon Wade had a huge passion for entertaining and creating rich delicious meals. With the help of church family and friends, Deacon Wade constructed a beautiful cabana in his yard where he would host great cookouts. Oh how family and friends loved those cookouts. One could always count on delicious food with fresh fruits and veggies grown from Deacon Wade’s prized Garden. There was always a lot of joke telling, stories from the past and much laughter at those cookouts. Clayton was fondly called Pa-Pa by his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Deacon Wade’s biggest passions were love of the Lord, love of family, and love of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. He was a founding member and elder Deacon of Fellowship for better than 30 years. He served as second VP of the Deacon Board and VP of the Combined men through his date until his demise. He received numerous accolades from the church and community leaders for his incredible and masterful work in the Ministry for the sick and shut in. Clayton was an avid supporter and member of the South Ward Senior Citizens Club prior to falling ill and a Life Member of the Newark Chapter of the NAACP where he engaged in voter registration activities and lent a major voice in the quest for Civil Rights. At the start of 2012 Deacon Clayton Wade together with Deaconess Mary Wade became too ill to continue to live alone and they left their home in Newark of nearly 50 plus years to move into the home of their daughter and son in law, Sharon and Alvin where they continued to enjoy good food, good friends great family life. They also had the benefit of 24 hours personal care. Deacon Wade did not become completely bedridden until the last 3 weeks of his life and at that point he bid us a sweet farewell. Deacon Wade is truly one of the Blessed Saints marching home to be with the lord and with his dear sweet Mary. He lived 92 brilliant and productive years on this earth. His generosity and kindness touched many lives His light will shine in our hearts forever. Deacon Wade leaves to cherish precious memories: devoted daughter, Sharon Wade Spearman, Son-in-Law Alvin Spearman; son, Clayton Andre Wade; 8 grandchildren, Kecia Clarke, John Foster, Shawn Hines, Sherrice Riker, Tynisa Tianna, Cowshatta, Denise and Jonathan Wade; 8 great grandchildren, Ricky Taitt, Jehada Nabil, Darius Foster, Hakimah Riker, Dane Clarke III, Kaiya Clarke, Malachi and Xavier, 2 great great grandchildren, Jaiden and Cameron Taitt; along with an abundant assembly of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
