SHARON WADE-SPEARMAN a er living a full and beautiful life of fun, love friendship and travel, departed this life on February 27, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Deacon and Deaconess Clayton and Mary Wade.
Sharon earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University and shortly therea er, earned a Juris Doctorate Degree from the prestigious Seton Hall University School of Law.
In her early days, Sharon was not shy about embracing the responsibility of caring for her community. During the 60’s, Sharon was among the freedom ghters and outspoken political activists and the voice of change.
Sharon began her career as a teacher of English at Livingston and Weequahic High Schools. A er earning her Law Degree, she served as legal counsel to the United States Veterans Administration and the Essex Newark Legal Services. ere she led the rent strike for tenants su ering under poor living conditions in the Stella Wright project complex. She then moved on as Assistant Corporation Counsel at e Newark Housing Authority and the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights. She served as a Judge of the Irvington Municipal Court for many years.
In later years, Sharon was owner of Spearman Law & Associates, a law rm with satellite o ces in Newark, East Orange and Irvington. Sharon also served as Owner and Executive Director of the Toddler Town Child Care Center for 26 years before Sharon and her beloved Alvin sold the iconic
business in 2011. Sharon was a multitasker and had mega energy for great occasions with family and friends.
In 2013, Sharon retired from the active practice of law. Sharon was a spirited and happy individual who loved to shop, sing, dance and entertain her many friends. Sharon enjoyed great pleasure in being a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Omicron Xi Omega chapter. She adored being in the company of the ladies in her beloved Reading Group, Elle. Sharon was also a member of North Jersey Ladies of Distinction and Fab Five, always looking forward to meet ups with the groups for the simple pleasure of sharing food, fun and beverage. On leave from the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Bergen Passaic Chapter, Sharon continued to enjoy sisterly conversations and excursions with the membership. She was also a member on the Executive Board of the Association of Black Women Lawyers of NJ (ABWL).
Her greatest pleasure was spending time and traveling the world with her beloved husband Alvin, of over 38 years. Rarely would you see Sharon without Alvin, the love of her life. ey worked side by side building a comfortable life together, taking care of one another. She loved being Alvin’s wife and making sure he was well fed and well dressed.
Sharon loved shopping and spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her fun-loving sister friends. She loved ge ing dressed up every day even if it was just a short trip to the pharmacy or grocery store. Even during her last days of illness, Sharon was adamant about ge ing up, ge ing dressed, applying her lipstick and nding something fun and interesting to do. She did not want to be boring or a burden to family and friends.
Sharon leaves to mourn and cherish her everlasting memories, her soulmate and love of her life, Alvin Spearman; a beautiful daughter Kecia Clarke Michel and her husband Ernst Michel; loving sons Shawn Hines and Je rey Spearman; 3 wonderful grandchildren, Ricky DeVaughn Tai , Dane Clarke II, Kaiya Clarke; 3 great grandchildren, Jaiden Tai , Cameron Tai and Madison Nova Tai ; Loyal beloved Sisters, Scheryl Fontaine and LaVern Boynton; precious and devoted Nieces, Sameerah Crawford, Hakimah ‘Kimmie’ Riker, Jehada ‘Najee’ Alexander and her husband Corey; Nephews John Foster, Darius Foster and Stanley Crawford, along with a host of other relatives and friends. Sharon was predeceased by her beloved sister Shelley Wade-Plush.
