The Maria Argyriadi donation is the core of the Department of Childhood, Toys and Games, which was founded in 1991. The collections include 20,000 toys, games and childhood items, from antiquity to 1970, originating not only from Greece and the broader Greek world, but from Europe, America, Africa and the East as well. The department’s primary aim is to document all aspects of the themes "childhood", "game" and "toy", by studying the history of toys in Greece and Europe, and children’s daily life in a traditional Greek context as well. The collection’s Greek section comprises infants' and children's toys spanning the classical, Roman, Byzantine and post-Byzantine periods. They include hand-made traditional Greek toys dating from the 18th to the 20th century, articles from country festivals, 20th century commercial products, team sports, board games, and seasonal games. Van Gogh Alive – The Experience 7 NOV 2017 - 5 MAR 2018 V I S UA L A R T S

Make no mistake – this is no ordinary art exhibition. Traditions of tiptoeing through unnervingly silent galleries and viewing paintings from afar in quiet contemplation are forgotten as visitors find themselves interacting with art in ways they never imagined. Van Gogh Alive – The Experience will stretch the definition of the word ‘exhibition’ as it stimulates the senses and opens the mind. And there’s no need to worry about the kids getting bored – the exhibition caters perfectly to both young and old. From start to finish, visitors are surrounded by a powerful and vibrant symphony of light, colour and sound that compels them to leave the world behind and immerse themselves in what has been called an ‘unforgettable’ multi-sensory experience. Van Gogh's masterpieces come to life as visitors experience the sensation of walking right into his paintings - a feeling that is simultaneously enchanting, entertaining and educational. Based on Richard Wagner’s music drama Twilight of the Debts 5, 7, 10, 12, 14, 17, 19 January 2018 REWORKED OPERA

Kharalampos Goyos / Dimitris Dimopoulos / Alexandros Efklidis Reworking classics from the opera repertoires is a key focus of the GNO Alternative Stage’s program. The first production of this type is a radical adaptation of the Twilight of the Gods; the final part of the famed tetralogy by Richard Wagner, the Ring of the Nibelung. Twilight starts with a prophecy that Valhalla, home of the gods, will be destroyed; a prophecy that comes to pass at the end of the work. During the work we see what fate has in store for the hero, Siegfried, who holds the cursed ring. Enchanted by those who control this much sought after piece of jewelry, he cheats on his beloved, the Valkyrie Brunnhilde, only to be betrayed and murdered at the end by them. To end the curse, Brunnhilde, daughter of Wotan the king of the gods, sets fire to Valhalla and destroys the ring before throwing herself into the flames.
