Welcome…
MOVA Fitness Magazine
… to MOVA Fitness Magazine Not long ago I was just another girl who was training in a gym and trust me when I started training in a gym (1987). there were not many of us girls in there. It was generally considered as a guy’s sport and the girls were mainly confined to the Aerobics rooms…I Believe that my experience working in the fitness industry (for the last 20+ years) has probably contributed a lot to my current passions. I bought my first camera in 2009 and it was for my birthday. Now I know this was the best gift I could give to myself. And once I got behind the lens I got hooked on Photography. Spending years in front of the camera and having friends who are photographers has offcourse contributed to my new passion. And let’s not underestimate my school education and childhood passion which was the Arts- drawing and advertising was something I always wanted to pursue, but I was not brave enough to do it. Perhaps this was because I always considered my self not good enough and never looked at the option to do it just to enjoy the feeling of it, the feeling of creation. Combining my two passions of fitness and arts just naturally lead me to becoming a Photographer. And the best thing now is that my aim is not to obsessively criticise my self and search whether I am good enough, but rather. it is just to enjoy the creative part of it. Photography is just a journey like anything else, and the love of it, I am sure, will make me go forward and want even more… In this first edition of Mova Fitness magazine I will be featuring my work, and the people I work with. Simply because I believe the people I photograph are not just pretty faces. I feel that each one of them has an amazing story to tell and to inspire me and my readers with stories and pictures that deserves publicity and more exposure…Enjoy the ride with me…

For me writing is my way of self-expression and the written prose is something I value so much as a means of creating something unique as well as informative.
What makes you motivated? I draw my motivation from several luminaries in the sport, all from various backgrounds and all equally important to me. NABBA/WFF World President Graeme Lancefield is a very important influence for me, as Graeme is that perpetual professional and articulate gentleman who is regarded as a living legend. In terms of writing, master trainer Ingrid Barclay remains a big influence on me as she has been since my teen years. The larger than life innovator Tony Doherty (IFBB Pro Director) always amazes me with what he has achieved, his charisma is magnetic. Creative talents such as Maria McCarter (ANB Victorian President) and Jason Woodforth (INBA Vice President) are notable for their revolutionary contributions to natural bodybuilding. Also Ian Collins of the Melbourne institution known as Evelyn Faye has always been supportive and encouraging – the man is a wealth of knowledge. It’d be remiss of me not to mention former bodybuilding champion Matthew Simon who has been an incredible support and a close friend.

It is people such as these that have achieved greatness and continue to inspire and motivate me.

Are there any highlights you’d like to mention? There are so many it’s hard to answer that question; obviously attending large events such as IFBB Grand Prix’s or NABBA International Events are always high up on the list of highlights. Undoubtedly interviewing international stars is always a buzz especially in liaising with people such as Rich Gaspari, Erin Stern, Larissa Reis, Flex Wheeler, Alicia Harris and many others. Thanks to the magazine I have been fortunate enough to interview famous celebrities such as WWE Star turned Hollywood actor David Bautista and TV reality star turned WWE entertainer Mike Mizanin. Like any bodybuilding fan, I would like to meet with the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger one day as well as the gorgeous Rachel McLish – that’s certainly two things I‘d love to do in this lifetime. How do you keep track on all the fitness and BDB news and gossip? Those who know me will recognize that I am a traditionalist in every sense – to acquire news I rely simply upon emailing several industry contacts as well as undertaking my own extensive research. A number of people have cited the benefits of using facilities such as Facebook, however I do not subscribe to this nor do I have any plans to. What are you dreams and plans for the future? That’s a good question but one that I cannot answer definitively. Are there any athletes you think we should keep an eye out for?
Well, locally speaking there are a vast number of competitors that have come up in recent years and a few rising stars that have captured industry imagination and these include Jake Nikolopoulos, Tamika Webber, Adam Fennell and Tiffany Fox. These are incredible talents in their own right and I believe that they are bound for greatness. Dedicated athletes such as these have the capacity to really excel and create big names for themselves and follow in the footsteps of established champions such as (but not limited to) Scott Goble, Lindy Olsen, Rohan Reid, David Kirwin and Jodie Howard. It bears testimony to the quality prevalent within the Australian bodybuilding scene. Year after year we’re treated to new and exciting competitors and I think we’re very lucky in that respect.
Is there anyone you would like to thank? Aside from my primary aforementioned motivators, I would like to thank Australian IRONMAN (Blitz Publications) specifically senior people such as Silvio Morelli (Publisher) and Mark Castagnini (General Manager). It would be remiss of me not to thank Editors both past and present, which include Daniel Hedger and Davin Sgargetta – both very wise and talented guys. The publication has quite literally helped me realize my passion and made me a much better writer and journalist. Also Mariya thanks to you for this opportunity, as you have always believed in me and been a very positive influence. MFM MFM-Issue1-Sept 2012-15

Interview with Lawrence Templar I Photographed Lawrence just recently in July 2012. His presence in front of the camera was amazing. I soon found out he accidentally decided to appear on stage and as soon as he did, he became the winner of his first ever competition competing in the male fitness model category. No wonder why‌So here is what he has to say: Lawrence you have such defined abs. When did you start training? Have you done any other competitive sports? I started at the gym when I was 17 on and off but never committed until the age of 19 and once I did have never looked back! I played under 18’s footy for the Macedon cat when I was in year 12 before that I would skateboard everyday down at the local skate park in Gisborne. You took the stage as soon as you steped up. When did you decide to compete? It was actually a spur of the moment thing was in the crowd at the INBA Comp in May watching a mate Tom Mckenna who came 3rd on the day and everyone one there
was telling me to jump up on stage for the Mr Beach body so I went back stage got a slap on tan and ended up taking it out at 1st place, since then after realizing how fun it is have competed in ANB Victorian Male Fitness model and came first in that as well.
What Competitions you have done and titles you won? Mr Copacabana 2011 1st INBA Mr beach body 2012 1st ANB Victorian Male Fitness Model 2012 1st ANB ASIA PACIFIC Fitness Model of the year 13th out of 35. What are your future plans and goals? Future Plans for me would be to have the chance to travel over to America and compete in a higher level of competition and to get a full paid sponsorship. What is your diet and training? Do you eat lean all year around? What is your favorite cheat meal? Ill start with the cheat meal can’t go past a couple of blocks of chocolate would have to be my favourite, Training is usually 5-6 day split of weights and diet is always 6 or more meals a day containing protein carbs and good fats always spaced around 2 and a half to 3 hours apart.
20-MFM-Issue1-Sept 2012
I usually sit around 7-8% body fat all year round but drop down to about 4-5% for a comp/ photo shoot and of course summer. You are working as a personal trainer? Do you have any specific training approach? How do you train your clients? Yes I am currently working as a personal trainer in Melbourne Central Fitness First and have been for the past 3 years I mostly have clients with goals in the line of toning up and putting on some size but also specialize in weight loss and strength and conditioning, and as for training them it would be different for every person as lets face it everyone is their own person and has different goals and needs. Interview with the Pro
Dan Hill We ask you answer IFBB Pro Bodybuilder Daniel Hill for Mova Fitness magazine MM: Hi Daniel. You are for the second year in a row on stage for the IFBB Australian Pro Grand Prix Melbourne, do you like coming to Australia? D: Australia is always a very special place for me to visit. The enthusiasm for Bodybuilding and contact to the fans are making it well worth having such a long flight. I always been here only for a very few days but it is a place I could definately spend a longer vacation. MM: When did you start training? D: I always been very active as a child. After competitive swimming from the age of 6-12 i started playing Handball as teenager.
As getting physically stronger became an issue in this sport i joined the local gym at 14 years. I realized that I am more an individual athlete than a team player and so bodybuilding became bigger to me. In chinese horoscope i am a Tiger and I truly can indentify a lot of these characteristics to my behaviour. Furthermore I been stuying arts in School as a main subject.Bodybuilding seems like meant to be for me. I can combine my dedication as a loansome warrior in the gym with the spirit of an artist, working with my heart and sweat on a single masterpiece which happens to be my own physique
MM: What are your competition achievements so far? When did you become a Pro IFBB competitor? D: I competed the first time when i was 18 years old. I choosen a Small show called German Newcomer Nationals which is a Show you can only compete in your rookie season. Unfortunately or i can also say luckily, there been 10 Teenagers competing in my class and i won right away.I didn’t know anything about photoshoots yet and i just loved the “sport”. At this point i can really say it still was a sport only to me. After three years competing and winning the German Junior Overall Title in each year, I also won the IFBB Junior
Worldchampionship 2007 in Hungary. It was a drug tested show and 36 athletes in my weightclass competed there. Each and everyone of them was the national Champion of his coutry in junior division and it was a gathering of almost every Nation in the IFBB. It was a phenomenal experience to win the Overall title and it enabled me to apply for the Pro licence. There are mostly no pro qualifier shows in Europe and you basicly have to Win titles for being allowed to make your petition for the lincence. The IFBB headquarters of your Country afterwards decide if they issue the licence or not. It didn’t feel ready at that point as I still looked at Bodybuilding from the sports aspect only, but i was
blessed having Ed Connors encoraging me to get the licence. I am grateful for this advice he gave me, which changed my life into good and I am proud I was able to believe in my dream and take the risk to change my life.
MM: You are also an international cover bodybuilder model (recently featured on the Australian Iron Man cover page, how did you achieve this success?
something i can be proud of. Look back on an amazing and fulfilling career and i want and enjoy spending as much time as possible with my (hopefully) many childreen and wife. I am a single child myself and i always wanted to have a big Family in the future.
MM: What is your diet during competition preparation? Do you have any secrets?
D:I keep the carbs high indtead of D: 3 weeks before my Pro debut in lowering them. For a tall and heavy 2010 I had a photoshoot with famous guy like me it is nearly impossible to fill photographer Mike Neveux in his aterlier. up again once you are deep in dieting I took another half year until the feature and empty. In this way I also keep ms and cover came out and month by month metabolism burning and i can adjust and I heard from new countries where it was control it better. Especially for a two Year Features as well. Such As Japan, Italy or dieting and photoshoot marathon, this right here in Australia was the only way to go. MM: What is your ultimate dream when it comes to achieving your goals? What makes you to stay motivated? D:Short term i will enjoy all the opportunities and experiences Bodybuilding brings me. Travel around the world, meeting interesting people, make friends and money on the way and capturing everything on video and picture. This is annother blessing Bodybuilding has brought to me... It documents basicly my whole life and someday I can lean back and just be proud of what i did.Ultimately I want to achieve
MM: What is the most important tip when it comes achieving a physique like yours? D: There is no real secret to it. If I can do it, you can. It all comes down on how bad you want it and if you believe in yourself enough. I believe that anyone has the potential to reach everything he ever wants as long as it is in harmony with the inner self. You need to find yourself and your true passion inside and once you found it, you cannot stop yourself from becoming successful as long as you stay true to yourself in every way on every day.
MM: What advice would you like to share with Mova Fitness Magazine readers and fans? D: Stay true to your visions and feelings. You know the right way if you only listen close enough to your heart and soul. Never let somebody tell you that you are not good enough. The first step before anybody in theworld believes it, is you have to believe it!
I had the privilege to work with Dan Hill in 2011, our photo shoot was actually suppose to be at a gym, but at that time we couldn’t access the gym and we had to shoot out doors, in a hot and sunny day. I am still glad to have been able to work with such elite and world known international athlete. Thank you for this amazing opportunity to be able to work with you and have you in front of my camera! Congratulation on your recent achievements and I wish you all the best! MFM

The goodness of Chestnuts
Chestnuts are classed as temperate nuts. Chestnuts, unlike other nuts, contain very little fat or oil and mainly contain complex carbohydrate (50%) and water (40-45%), with small amounts of protein (5-10%). Traditionally, chestnuts are roasted over an open fire or in the oven
(slit first and roasted on medium heat for 25-30 minutes, turning over after 15 minutes), but they can be boiled, steamed or grilled too in sweet or savoury recipes. Chestnuts contain low quantities of sodium and they are also gluten and cholesterol free. Compering to other calorie values chestnuts are 3 times less in calories. 100 grams is only around 180-200 calories. Chestnuts can be dried and milled into flour, which can then be used to prepare breads, cakes, pancakes, pastas (it is the original ingredient for polenta,[5] known in Corsica as pulenda), or used as thickener for stews, soups, and sauces. I would like to further explore this

some simple steps to ‘being yourself’.
‘‘ When you are content to be simply yourself and don’t compare or compete, everyone will respect you. ‘‘ Lao Tzu (6th century BC) Ancient Chinese spiritual leader and founder of Taoism MFM-Issue1-Sept 2012-37
It is important to understand that we are all unique and have our own journey in this life and once we recognise this, we can begin to embrace it and even celebrate it. This very transformation can bring out a self confidence and love which can have amazing impacts on our lives and how we approach situations and people. We feel at peace with ourselves and have a greater sense of control of our lives by no longer depending on the acceptance of others on how we look, speak, dress, work or socialise. When we no longer depend on others for acceptance of ourselves, we become secure in our own skin and this energy will become evident to those we interact with. You may think that by being yourself and doing the things that make you happy it will disappoint or hurt others in the process. What I would suggest to you here is that if you choose to do what you enjoy in life, without intentionally hurting or enforcing your will on others in the process, then other people will actually come to value your honesty and consistency. At the end of the day, everyone has a right to their opinion and to make their choices in life and so do you. Finding and being yourself is a lifelong progression in many ways, as we constantly evolve and mature as individuals. It may be challenging, but it is not a process that should scare you. Here are some simple ways to help you 38-MFM-Issue1-Sept 2012
find your true self and chart a course of happiness on your terms:
1. Find out what makes you happy. Reflect on the people, activities, environments and careers that align most with your inner values and that would bring you most fulfilment. Go out on a sunny day in the park and let your mind be emptied of all of its worry and fear and be replaced with the sights and sounds of the calm environment. With this calm state of mind, note the reflections in your mind (perhaps even write them down on paper). It is often said that all of our answers lie within us. By getting rid of the clutter of distractions in the mind, we can actually listen to what our heart, or ‘gut feeling’, is telling us.
2. Make a decision to be yourself. This step is often the hardest and but once you make the decision it will seem as if all the pieces start to fall into place. To succeed at this step you must be willing to let go of the pre-programmed beliefs about what you think others want from you and how they expect you to act. Replace these with thoughts of accepting yourself as you are and reflecting on the things that make you such a great person. Be proud of these qualities and begin to show them to the world without fear of judgement.
2. Go after life with passion and purpose. Tap into your passions and follow them. To be passionate you need to FEEL it within you and choose to value your life and the amazing possibilities it has to offer. I encourage you to relive your childhood innocence by looking at everything you see and experiencing them with wonder and admiration as if it was for the first time. In doing this, I believe that life will be a much more exciting place and you will also begin to apply the same sense of wonder and admiration for your own unique qualities as a person.
3. View life’s events as learnings for continuous growth, rather than labelling them as positive or negative experiences. There is no such thing as a failure unless you allow it to be. Choose to learn from your experiences and recognise that we are all unique and can choose to look at an experience from many viewpoints. You may receive negative feedback from your decisions or behaviour, even from loved ones, but if you choose to see the experience as a learning, this can actually be an empowering experience rather than something to feel ashamed about.
MFM-Issue1-Sept 2012-39
“If one advances confidently in the directions of his dreams, and endeavours to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) American author and philosopher
We human beings are all unique and display greatness in our own ways. You certainly have your own exceptional talents, abilities, values and life goals; and that is what makes you amazing. It isn’t an easy choice to drop your façade and simply be yourself, but I truly believe that it is one of the most important and fulfilling decisions you may ever make on your life journey.
Good luck! 48-MFM-Issue1-Sept 2012
