RotaryRRC TO HOST POOL AND PIPELINE INFO SESSIONS
Rockhampton Regional Council will be hosting a Community Information Session on Wednesday 9 November and is encouraging community members to come along anytime between 3 pm until 7 pm.
The session will give the community an opportunity to provide input into the Mount Morgan pool redevelopment and learn more about the pipeline project. There will also be a sausage sizzle.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said the format will allow the community to ask questions and have discussions, as opposed to a more formal community meeting.
“Councillors, Officers and myself will be on hand to have a chat about two vital projects for the community – the pool and the pipeline,” Mayor Williams said.
“We will be at the Mount Morgan School of Arts from 3 pm until 7 pm which means you can come
after school pickup, after work, or whenever suits best - grab a feed and learn more about these projects.”
Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the session will give the community an opportunity to participate in the process and hopefully learn more about the pool and pipeline.
“By having Councillors and Officers available for one-on-one chats, we are hoping that this will mean everyone’s questions are answered,” Cr Rutherford said.
“We will also be asking people to complete a survey on the pool to help us capture the community’s feedback so we can gain a full understanding of what they want before the project commences.
“We will put out more information on the survey closer to the information session so people who can’t attend can still be involved.”
Water Councillor Donna Kirkland
is looking forward to the Mount Morgan community getting an update on the pipeline project.
“The pipeline project is full steam ahead, and at the information session Council will be providing some updates and more information so the community knows how it’s progressing and what to expect,” Cr Kirkland said.
“We know how much the pipeline and pool mean to the community so it will be a great opportunity to have a chat and catch up about these projects.”
The Community Information Session will be held at the Mount Morgan School of Arts on Wednesday 9 November from 3pm til 7pm. A BBQ and soft drinks will be provided.
Register your attendance via the online form here www.rrc.qld.gov. au/poolandpipeline, by phoning 4932 9000 or visiting the Mount Morgan Customer Service Centre.

He said MMPAD was happy that Rockhampton Regional Council’s
economic development arm, Advance Rockhampton has come on board again this year.
“While it’s obvious that the winners of the prizes will benefit from the Buy Local, MMPAD is hoping the businesses will have an increased turnover throughout this promotion – that’s the real focus,” Mr Steinberger said.
Cash and voucher donations were received from Collectables and Memories, the Grand Hotel, IGA Mount Morgan, Mane Street Hair Studio, Mount Morgan Promotion and Development Inc, Railway Hotel/Motel, Rainbow Café, Stephen Andrew – Member for Mirani, That Truck and Bobcat Bloke, the Print Cartel and Wattle Bee Next.

Some of the activities were making a glitter globe in a jar, kind and inspirational message board, rock art, sand art hand painting, obstacle course, inspirational colouring pages, and games. Everyone had lots of fun and the chance to have a chat and bring awareness to Mental Health. A wonderful array of hot food, sandwiches and fruit for lunch was provided from the Railway Hotel. Mount’s Twilight Christmas Back Again
Following on from the success of last year’s Twilight Christmas Concert, Mount Morgan Promotion and Development Inc [MMPAD] is again holding its carols concert event at Mount Morgan’s Historical Railway Station.
MMPAD President, Mr John Steinberger said last year’s event was favourably received and the number of positive comments we received was outstanding. More than 150 attended the event.

Roving reporter delves into music endeavours
studios in Yeppoon and Brisbane.
Having collaborated with his friend and fellow artist, Yeppoon’s Will Hearn and record producer Andrew Nolan in Brisbane, the project proved to be a special collection of works for the budding singer.
“The album begins with a complication when the protagonist is trying to deal with the difficulty of a range of issues before a resolution in the closing track,” he said.
“Throughout the tracks, a common theme presents itself to the listener who is invited to come along for the emotional ride of highs and lows with me.
“Everyone can relate to the subjects that I’ve dealt with in my first collection of tracks, and I’ve taken inspiration from a variety of genres from pop and soft rock to dance and electronica.”
Mr Fox’s musical journey started some years ago when he started to write his own material, and believes the art of storytelling to be the most important factor of his art.
“When I begin work on a song, I envisage a movie playing in my mind as I write the lyrics so that the listener can also be taken to another realm,” he said.
In his debut album, one of his tracks involves an alter ego as he comes to the aid of American Indians upon the beginning stages of a conflict in Comanche Uprising which was released as a single earlier this year.
Mount Morgan’s own Sean Fox (pictured above) is reinventing himself once again, this time establishing himself as a recording artist.
On Friday, 14 October, the 26-year-old qualified journalist digitally released his long-awaited debut album, titled Genesis on streaming platforms Spotify and Apple Music.
Consisting of six original tracks he’d written himself; the production spanned several sessions between

SET TO DELIVER ON QUALITY AND KINDNESS
When you first open a business, the last thing you expect is to have to close due to electrical issues. This was the case with the latest culinary offering for Mount Morgan – Wee Doo Deliver!
Opening on 3 October, the partnership of Dion Gerena, James Tidyman, Eden Ellison, and Keira Bryant were not expecting to be slammed with electrical issues from the outset, considering that all equipment selected was chosen to complement the existing supply.
The first outage occurred on 9-10 October and the next when complete power was lost on 14 October. However, these business owners are made of sturdy stuff and have persevered despite these setbacks and reopened again on Monday, 24 October 2022.
Dion, originally from the United
States, was involved in the food industry there for many years as well as working at the Murray Downs Country Club in New South Wales. Partner and head chef James has spent 38 years in the catering industry. The pair arrived in Mount Morgan in 2021 and were previously working at the Grand Hotel as Duty Manager and Head Chef respectively.
A good food outlet needs to have good coffee, and this is something Wee Doo Deliver offers in the form of Eden Ellison and Keira Bryant, who are trained baristas and before moving to the Mount operated Coffee Kickin’ – a coffee cart.
According to Dion, Wee Doo Deliver will focus on employment of local people to help in the business – they have employed 10 people on a casual basis to date.
“It’s important to support local people and businesses where possible,” he said.
“As we have a fully qualified chef and baristas, anyone we hire will benefit from learning new skills
A key element of this business is the ethos of “paying it forward”. The team from Wee Doo Deliver have teamed up with Feel Good Promotions where they will be enacting Kindness through the offering of a “Cup of Kindness” or “Slice of Kindness”.
“In addition, during the month of November and into Christmas we will be encouraging people to drop off non-perishable items that we can pass onto people in need working in conjunction with local churches and organizations,” Dion said.
Through the events and other activities, Wee Doo Deliver will “give back” to the community, “For us, this is essential.”
Wee Doo Deliver has set the time for a Halloween event on Saturday, 29 October between 7.30 – 10.30 pm, which includes “Trick or Treating” and a Costume contest (competition at 8.30 pm). There will be a first prize of ($50 Wee Doo Deliver Food Voucher, $20 IGA Voucher and a gift bag of treats) and second prize of ($25 Wee Doo Deliver Food Voucher, $20 IGA Voucher and a gift bag of treats).
“If anyone wants to come along and help out –especially if they are in costume – they are welcome and encouraged,” Dion said.
While the crew at Wee Doo Deliver, plan to run regular events – their prime focus will be to offer high quality food and beverage to residents and visitors.
“We plan to offer a wide range of food – pizzas, wraps, wings and Asian styled dishes,” Dion said.
“There is definitely a call for Asian styled food in Mount Morgan and we anticipate that this will be favourably received.
The first week for the “Wee Doo Deliver” family was hectic.
“We had to do several stock runs, but were disappointed because our suppliers also ran out of supplies. Using different products means difficulties in offering consistency in what we sell – that’s not a good way to operate, but it is what we had to do to ensure we had product available,” Dion said.
“The response from Mount Morgan has been terrific – we’ve had a few minor hiccups which comes with opening a new business and training staff – but we are committed.”
Wee Doo Deliver is heavily focussed on online ordering, which provides the customer with opportunities of tracking their orders.
An apt line from a ghostly movie, and just in time for Halloween, would mostly certainly be “They’re Back!” If you wish to place an order, you can do so the web page –www.weedoodeliver.com.au or on Facebook.
Wee Doo Deliver is located at 11 Central Street, opposite the Mount Morgan State High School - in the same shop that housed Eats, Lucky Strike Pizza and Mumma Kath’s Kitchen.
Opening times are Sunday through to Thursday - 7 am to 9 pm and Friday - Saturday - 7 am to 10 pm. Customers can order online and collect or have the meal delivered (fee applies). Alternatively, you can choose to dine in and enjoy the atmosphere.

THE ORANGE DOT
By Larry at Fox Video Movie ReviewTHE MOSQUITO COAST
Paul Theroux, American novelist, and travel writer has written many books throughout his muchapplauded career, most famously THE MOSQUITO COAST which was made into the renowned Harrison Ford film of the same name in 1986. It appears that the Theroux crew have a gift. Paul’s son Louie Theroux is one of the bravest reporters/film-makers on this planet and definitely ranks highly on our list of real heroes. Louie always tackles the most critical topics that others don’t have the courage to take on as he fearlessly barges into the nests of neo-Nazis, Ku Klux Klansmen and women, extremist terrorists, violent Trans activists... You name them, Louie sits them down and straightout asks the hard questions point blank, and he insists on answers. Paul’s other son Marcel is also a documentary film-maker, and his two brothers Alexander and Peter are both published authors as well.
Having introduced The Theroux Crew, it is time to talk about Paul’s new and much edgier version of THE MOSQUITO COAST. It bears little resemblance to the original
movie. In fact, this explosive action thriller is harsher, more fast-paced, tense, and exciting than the 1986 film, and with a very different, gripping story. In the lead roles this time are the wonderful Melissa George as Margot Fox, and as her husband, Allie Fox, we have film-maker and actor extraordinaire, Justin Theroux (yes, Paul’s nephew).
What did Daddy do? Was he a criminal mastermind? Was he a spy? Why do we have to move, again? Who are these people always looking for us?
Allie Fox is a brilliant inventor and a stubborn idealist. He is growing increasingly disgusted with the corruption of the industrial world and disillusioned with the commercialization of absolutely everything in the United States. Allie lives a low-profile life completely off the grid in America with his wife Margot and their two teenage children. The kids are home-schooled outside of the education system and getting to an age where they’re beginning to question why they can’t live
like all the other kids, why they have to move so often, and why they can’t even have a phone. Allie does odd job work to get by, but unfortunately his brilliant inventions aren’t bringing in any money yet and the family’s debts are growing. The threat of eviction is looming. Margot knows it is against the rules, but she figures if she uses a public phone booth... She telephones her parents to ask for help. It is not long before people in black suits inside shiny black cars appear circulating through town. Allie is out of options. There is no longer anywhere in the USA that is safe. It is time to uproot his family and go on the run again, right now. But this time he’s taking them south, across the border on a dangerous quest through Mexico to flee the United States and try to find safety for his family.
Rated MA15+ for ‘strong violence’, THE MOSQUITO COAST is also blessed with a brilliant performance by Ian Hart as an unassuming, chatty, friendly, approachable but very lethal assassin.
THE MOSQUITO COAST...Loved it!
PARENTS INSPIRE FIREFIGHTER
As children, many of us have dreams about what we want to be when we “grow up”. Many of us also have heroes and usually these heroes come with a cape, superpowers or especially handy tridents.
Mount Morgan Auxiliary Firefighter, Blayne Porter has always been interested in the Fire and Rescue Service - but his heroes are a little closer to home than the Hall of Justice - they are his mother and father.
“Seeing my dad work as an auxiliary firefighter and Lieutenant here in Mount Morgan, and my uncle work as a permanent firefighter in Rockhampton definitely inspired me a lot to consider joining,” Blayne said.
Blayne has been a member of the Mount Morgan Fire
and Rescue Service for nine and a half years - and it’s a dedication that he has learnt from his home heroes - mother, Wendy and father, Kevin.
“They have dedicated so much of their lives to the community over the years, through many differen departments of the emergency services.”
Blayne said “staying calm and collected” when attending an incident was the best way to prepare for the potential of the incident escalating.
“Every job we attend has the potential to change quickly, and even what may seem like a simple job to start with, can actually turn out to be very challenging at times.
“I think our Mount Morgan crew is very good at adapting to each job as it happens, which really helps us to effectively manage those more intense and challenging jobs.”
“Hearing the town siren or having the pager go off is a bit of an adrenalin rush for me, to be honest.
“You never really know when you are going to get the call or what the job is going to be when it happens.
“For example, you can be just getting home from a long day at your normal job and then without warning be responded to a car accident out of town. Or you be sound asleep at 1 am and be woken up by the pager for a fully involved structural fire.
“You just never know when the call is going to come or what it’s going to be,” he said.
Blayne said firefighting was a unique job.
“No two jobs are the same, so it’s always different, and being able to continually learn new techniques and how to use new equipment is something that I enjoy as well.
“The sense of accomplishment I feel after each job, knowing that I have been able to help someone in some way is also rewarding.”
Some of the most memorable things he has learnt includes road crash rescue techniques, fire behaviour
and fire suppression techniques, Hazmat techniques and highlevel communications.
“I have found the most valuable learnings from this line of work are actually the additional life and people skills that come with being exposed to such challenging and highly emotive situations. I have learned how to calm and reassure people who are scared.
“I have learned that life can change very quickly and that we should never take things for granted. The most important aspect of my role as an auxiliary firefighter is helping people and the community. “
“At the end of the day, we do what we can to help people,” he said. Blayne, at 27 years, works as a diesel fitter for Hastings Deering and in his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family and anything “car” related, especially following motorsports like the Australian Supercars Series and Formula 1.

MIRANI MESSAGE
With Stephen Andrew, MPAs I travel across the Mirani electorate (63,290 km2), I am drawn to the township rich in heritage, Mount Morgan a place I have a sense of belonging.
You never know what adventure Mount Morgan will surprise you with, the open cut gold and copper mines, viewing dinosaur footprints found at the Mine in the Fossil Display Room, in the General Office. Taking a step back in time and experience how travel in the area once was at the Historic Railway Museum. We all know how life has become hard and tough for many Queenslanders; it is no different for the people that call Mount Morgan home.
Along the way, I meet with local farmers listening to their concerns about the effects of legislation, amongst other difficulties which they experience.
With dry conditions prevailing, it was beneficial to hear from farmers in the area about what the next stage looks like for them and how I can best represent them.
Mount Morgan has always been a community I will take every opportunity to visit and speak for on the floor of Parliament.
I believe it is the responsibility of the state member to not just represent the constituents in Parliament but to encourage and be involved in the community. That is why when my calendar permits, I travel to speak about the issues that affect everyone and attend as many events and functions as I am able.
I have continued to advocate for regional growth with a focus on Mount Morgan through supporting and advocating strongly for the opening of the Mount Morgan Gold Mine and securing $40.4 million for the new Mount Morgan Water Pipeline.
I want my contributions to make a clear difference locally and deciding where to donate is a difficult task, because there are so many worthy causes. Mount Morgan has benefited significantly from the requests for monetary funding - Mount Morgan Promotion and Development Inc, Mount Morgan Agricultural Show Society, Mount Morgan Golf Club, Mount Morgan Historical Society, Mount Morgan No. 7 Gallery, Mount Morgan State High School, Mount Morgan Rodeo Ass Inc, Golden Mount Festival Association Incorporated and Australian Pensioners and Superannuants League Qld - Mount Morgan Branch.
In fact, out of the 93 Members of the Legislative Assembly I am the MP who donated most of the Electorate Communication Allowance (ECA) in supporting my constituents.
Meeting with local business and taking the opportunity to hear about local challenges is a discussion I’m happy to have.
No matter what kind of trip I take, I often go through a myriad of emotions before, during and after the adventure. Thank you for continuing the conversation to create change.
