Darin Rayburn has more than 22 years of commercial real estate management experience, having begun his career in marketing and operations with Cambridge Shopping Centers in Edmonton. He then spent nine years with Oxford Properties Group, as retail property manager – Edmonton, General Manager – Winnipeg and as General Manager – Edmonton. Darin joined Melcor Developments Ltd. in 2002 as Senior Divisional Manager, with responsibility for leading the company’s commercial investment property team in the acquisition, disposition, leasing and management of commercial assets in British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. In 2005, in recognition of the rapid growth of the division he was promoted to Vice President – Investment Properties Division where his duties were expanded to include acquisition strategy and execution in Arizona and Texas. Darin was promoted to Executive Vice President for Melcor Developments Ltd in 2011 and May 1, 2013 Darin was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the newly launched Melcor REIT. Darin’s team currently oversees a portfolio of REIT assets and Melcor Developments assets totaling over 3 million square feet in 7 assets classes, spanning 8 geographic regions and 2 two countries.
Brian D. Baker serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Melcor Developments Ltd. Mr. Baker started with Melcor in 1997 as a Development Manager in the Community Development Division where he successfully managed land development projects in West Edmonton and Spruce Grove. In April of 2002 Brian was appointed Vice President of the newly formed Property Development Division. In his ten years heading Property Development the Division grew from a start-up business unit to one that now has annual revenues exceeding $70M plus per year and has developed commercial assets totaling over 1.4M SF. Mr. Baker was promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer in June 2012 and to President and Chief Executive Officer in June 2013. Mr. Baker is a graduate of the University of Alberta (1995).

CMHC Christina Butchart is CMHC’s Senior Market Analyst for Edmonton. Since joining CMHC in 2003, she has held positions in Market Analysis and Research, in the B.C. He is the Provincial Co-chair of the Indigenous Wisdom Council Alberta Health Services, a Provincial council member on the Interagency Council on Homelessness, a member of the Aboriginal Advisory Council at the Royal Alberta Museum and President of Dreamspeakers Aboriginal Film Society & Wicihitowin Society.
Edmonton Economic Development Corporation Ken is the Executive Director of Northern Initiatives for Edmonton Economic Development with a special focus on responsible and sustainable oil sands development. He is interested in helping northern businesses find ways to work more collaboratively to optimize the economic, environmental and social outcomes of oil sands development. The Triple-Bottom-Line approach. Formerly he was the Executive Director of the Oil Sands Developers Group based out of Fort McMurray. Prior to that he was a Founder of Cambridge Strategies, a boutique public policy consultancy based in Edmonton. He is a long time proud Edmontonian and graduate of the U of A in Arts and Law. His legal background is in property development, real estate, commercial and entertainment law. He had been a media commentator in television, where he hosted his own show on CFRN. He was a political pundit on CBC radio for years and often quoted in print on politics and public policy issues. He is an avid blogger and social media savant. He now speaks to conferences and symposiums across Canada on issues around triple bottom line sustainable oil sands development.

Jason is responsible for the real estate investment banking practice of RBC Capital Markets in Western Canada. RBC Capital Markets Real Estate Group is primarily focused on investment property brokerage, debt and equity financings, the arrangement of joint venture structures and capital market transactions for REITs and public real estate companies. Jason was raised in Vancouver and graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1987 with a B. Com. (Urban Land Economics). Prior to joining RBC in 1999, Jason worked as an investment sales broker in the Vancouver and Calgary offices of Colliers International. Jason is based in Calgary, Alberta. With over 25 years of experience in real estate investment sales and finance, Jason has an enviable track record relating to many of the larger and more complex real estate transactions in Western Canada.
James Cumming is currently President & CEO for the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, the largest urban chamber in Canada, a position he has held since May 2013. He is an active leader in the Edmonton business and non-profit community. Mr. Cumming held executive positions with Creative Door Services, Courtenay Real Estate Services Inc., Princeton Developments Ltd. and Cormode & Dickson Construction 1983 Ltd. Mr. Cumming was appointed Chair of the NAIT Board of Governors on October 10, 2010 and completed his term as Chair in October, 2013. Mr. Cumming served NAIT as a member of the Board of Governors since 2004, during which time he chaired the governance and campus development committees. His talent for strategic planning and managing growth has also led to membership on the board of Kaizen Synergies Inc. and key roles with leading organizations such as Junior Achievement, Northlands Park, Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, Edmonton Construction Association and the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada. He is a current member of the World Presidents’ Organization and the Harvard University Alumni OPM 27. A graduate of NAIT’s Construction Engineering Technology program, Mr. Cumming is a recipient of NAIT’s Alumni Award of Distinction for his many contributions to his profession and his community. Micheal is the Senior Vice President Real Estate for Alberta Investment Management Corp. (AIMCo), a Province of Alberta crown corporation. Micheal leads a team of ten individuals responsible for managing $10 billion in direct and indirect real estate investments. AIMCo has an ongoing build to core program to expand its Canadian holdings. Active in the USA, UK and Europe the foreign program is an opportunistic investment strategy. Prior to joining AIMCo, Mr. Dal Bello was an Investment Principal with CIBC Development Corporation engaged in strategic asset management and new project acquisitions. Micheal holds a Master of Arts, Geography and an Honours Bachelor of Arts, Geography (Urban Development) both from the University of Western Ontario and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Professor David Dale-Johnson is the Stan Melton Executive Professor in Real Estate at the Alberta School of Business. An expert in urban development and real estate finance, he came to U of A after many years teaching in that field at the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business and the Sol Price School of Public Policy. He has run real estate study programs in Latin America and Asia as well as executive programs for professional organizations, local governments and private industry. Professor Dale-Johnson completed a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science in Business Administration at the University of British Columbia and a Ph.D. at the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley. His mandate is to build a new program in real estate and urban economics at the Alberta School of Business.

John Day Developments John is a former counsel with a national law firm. He has focused primarily on real estate and commercial transactions for the past thirty-five years. Over the past decade John has been involved in a number of real estate developments including some buildings with historical aspects. John is also involved in the hospitality industry, the ski industry in Jasper and the Jasper Tramway. John is on the board with MacEwan University and the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation. John is currently involved in a real estate development on Jasper Avenue and on Rice Howard Way in downtown Edmonton.
Colliers International John Frederickson is the Regional Vice PresidentPrairie Region for Colliers International, located in Edmonton having joined the firm in December of 2007. John has an impressive career in the commercial real estate field with over 24 years experience in brokerage, marketing of properties, asset management, property management, construction management and general management. He has been a well-respected industry player and community leader throughout his career. John started his career in 1989 with a national brokerage firm in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he then moved to Colliers in 1994. In 1997 John joined Oxford Properties where he spent the next 10 years in diverse and progressive roles, across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, leading to his last position as Director, Real Estate Management. Well respected in the business community John served as the Chair of the Downtown Business Association in Edmonton, and is an active Board Member of BOMA, and a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Located in Calgary, Rod is responsible for the company’s office and industrial portfolio in Western Canada. Mayor Given first joined City Council in 2001 as an alderman, becoming the youngest person ever elected to a seat on Grande Prairie’s council, at age of 24. He was re-elected in the 2004 and 2007 elections and was successful in his bid for the mayor’s seat in the 2010 election when he became the youngest mayor in the city’s history. He was reelected for a second term as mayor in 2013. His professional career includes a marketing consultancy and employment in the technology sector. Mayor Given has a Certificate in Local Government Administration from the University of Alberta.

After working in Investment Banking and Real Estate in New York from 2007 - 2009, Sam joined Wexford Capital, a New York area based private equity hedge fund in May 2009. During his 20 years with Rogers, he has seen the industry mature from the early days of the “Brick” phone to Blackberries, the iPhone, iPad and complex, fully integrated telephony solutions. ATB Financial Todd Hirsch is ATB Financial’s Chief Economist. He holds a BA Honours in Economics from the University of Alberta and an MA in Economics from the University of Calgary. For over 20 years he’s worked as an economist at several different companies including Canadian Pacific Railway, the Canada West Foundation and the Bank of Canada. For almost a decade, Todd taught economics at the University of Calgary. Todd provides economic commentary for several Canadian media outlets and is a regular columnist for the Globe and Mail. He’s been recognized as one of Alberta’s 50 Most Influential People by Alberta Venture magazine. In August 2013, Todd was appointed chair of the Premier’s Council on Culture, and in early 2014 he was appointed to the Alberta Economic Development Authority. He is also the author of The Boiling Frog Dilemma: Saving Canada from Economic Decline.
Brad has been active in the commercial real estate industry since 2001. His extensive knowledge of the Alberta marketplace was gained through five years of experience at Avison Young in Edmonton prior to joining Panattoni Development Company as a Development Manager in 2006. Brad is now Vice President Western Canada for Panattoni, responsible for all aspects of their operations in the west including investments and acquisitions, project underwriting, project development and execution, lease/sale negotiations, etc. To date Brad has been involved in over 300 acres of industrial land development and nearly 1,500,000 square feet of new build to suit and re-development projects ranging from 30,000 square feet to 400,000 square feet. Panattoni is a very active commercial real estate development company with projects in more than 278 cities throughout North America and Europe. Panattoni has completed in excess of 160 million square feet of commercial project development worldwide since inception.

Mr. Hogan joined WAM in 2003 with the responsibility to grow WAM’s presence in Calgary. With over 30 years of experience working with major developers and retailers in Western Canada Mr. Hogan brings a broad base of experience in the industry to WAM’s team. WAM has seen significant growth as a result, including our 1,100 acre office, retail, and industrial park in the NE of Calgary. Tim has now assumed responsibility for the Office and Mixed Use division and will look to continue to grow our presence in our major markets.

Don Iveson was elected the 35th Mayor of Edmonton on October 21, 2013. As Mayor, he chairs City Council’s Executive and Audit Committees, and sits on the boards of Edmonton Economic Development and the Capital Region Board. In his time on Council and as Mayor, he has earned a reputation for being pragmatic, creative and collaborative in his approach to building the City of Edmonton. His command of issues and his passion for people have helped to address the increasingly challenging issues faced by Edmonton during a period of rapid growth and evolution. Mayor Iveson has been a leading voice for rebuilding neighbourhoods, improving regional transit, offering more diverse housing choices and pushing for regional collaboration to ensure the Edmonton area becomes more globally competitive. He and his wife Sarah Chan, a music teacher, have a 4-year-old son and a 1-year-old daughter.
Shafraaz is a registered Architect and partner with Manasc Isaac Architects - a firm recognized for its leadership in cold-climate sustainable design in Canada with numerous architectural awards, including a Governor General’s Award in Architecture, and is well known for its commitment to sustainable strategies and integrated, community-based design. Shafraaz has been the project architect on several LEED Certified projects and is a member of the Alberta Association of Architects and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. An avid proponent of sustainable design and architecture, Leading by example, he has also recently completed the design and construction of Net Zero residential projects, including Larch Park Net Zero Townhomes in Edmonton. He recently completed the Eastgate Environment Canada Office Building, which is slated to achieve LEED® Gold.

Neil has been active in the real estate and development business for close to 40 years. He has owned and constructed real estate all over Western Canada and as far away as Hawaii. As President of Camgill Enterprises, he owns more than 40 properties spanning from Winnipeg to Abbotsford. He is the largest private industrial landlord in Fort McMurray and he is currently developing commercial space in Saskatoon, Fort McMurray, Nisku, Edmonton, Airdrie, St. Paul, and Spruce Grove. Neil is involved in several boards and committees and he is a significant shareholder in a mid-size winery in the Okanagan.
A lifelong Edmontonian, Kevin commenced his real estate career in 1991 at Avison Young after receiving his Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Alberta. During his 13 year career at Avison Young Kevin sold in excess of $500 million of investment property. In 2003 Kevin joined WAM Development Group as Vice President of Investments and was responsible for the acquisition, leasing, and disposition of over 750,000 sq. ft. of office space, and the development, leasing & sale of 800,000 sq. ft. of industrial, 250,000 sq. ft. of retail and 500 acres of industrial development land. During his seven years at WAM, Kevin was responsible for projects totaling $525 million. In early 2010 Kevin left WAM to set up Pangman Development Corporation, which is focused on providing development management services to a select number of private investors as well as building a portfolio of revenue producing assets through acquisition and greenfield development. Today Pangman is developing J22, a 275,000 sf mixed use project on Jasper Avenue between 122 & 123 Streets and the 550,000 sf Kelly Ramsey building in the downtown core which will be Edmonton’s first AAA office building in over 20 years. Today Pangman has total assets owned and under development of over $600 million.

Under her leadership as Principal Architect, her 57-person design firm has pioneered sustainable building in Alberta, achieving many green “firsts.” These include Alberta’s first LEED Certified building, Edmonton’s first LEED® Silver building and the first LEED Gold building in the Canadian Arctic. Vivian has also worked closely with numerous innovative engineering teams across Western Canada to integrate best-in-class building systems strategies into over 20 high-performance buildings across Alberta. Vivian’s passion and commitment to outstanding sustainable Architecture has been recognized nationally (CaGBC’s 2012 Green Building Champion Award). Vivian’s expertise includes integrated design, facilitation, community engagement, and the integration of environmental, technical and cultural aspects of Architecture. Simon is a registered professional urban planner and designer and is Vice President of Stantec’s Urban Planning. Simon has significant experience in a wide range of current and long-range planning projects.
