GORDONVALE CAROLS IN THE PARK by JESS pieper Christmas is upon us again and this year’s Gordonvale Chamber of Commerce and Gordonvale Traders will be hosting its annual Carols in the Park. The event will be held in Norman Park in Gordonvale on Friday 9th of December with Rachel Bradley as the master of ceremonies. The night kicks off at 5pm with a number of small markets stores and food stalls including The Gordonvale Lions food van, Gordonvale Scouts sausage sizzle and the Gordonvale Hospital Auxiliary with tea and cakes. Don’t forget to bring the kids along with the Terry Doyle Family Fun Show starting at 5.30pm which will include face painting and balloon twisting. If you are coming along just for the Carols, the St. Michael’s Choir kicks off proceedings at 6pm and then the talented Soul Song which comprises of musicians from Southern Cairns Suburbs starts at 6.30pm. Light candles and glow sticks will be available for purchase from the Gordonvale Chamber of Commerce stall in the main area. These are a great alternative to a naked flame and parents are reminded that naked flames and smoking are not permitted due to safety

concerns. Lights and Sirens will be blaring when Santa arrives at 8.20pm by Fire Truck with the help from the staff at the Gordonvale Fire Station. Santa always arrives with goodies and will giving away lollies to the children. For Mums and Dads there will be a raffle draw at 8.30 pm with lots to win including 5 x $250 Hampers supplied by Cornett’s Supa IGA and 5 x $100 cash giveaways. The main prize of the night is $500 cash which doubles to $1000 if the winner is present at the event. To enter all you have to do is shop locally in Gordonvale at participating stores and with every purchase over $5 you will receive an entry form. Place your form in the barrel outside the Newsagency for a chance to win one of these great prizes. The Gordonvale Chamber of Commerce would like to thank all of the businesses who donated money and to all the volunteers for all their efforts to make the 2016 Carols happen.
