Edmonton Boat Ramp Upgraded for Far Northern Boaties Treasurer Curtis Pitt has announced that the Edmonton and the Fearnley Street Boat Ramp in Portsmith would both undergo Government-funded upgrades following calls from the community. “The popularity of recreational boating and fishing in the Far North is continually increasing so it’s important to provide facilities that will meet this demand,” Mr Pitt said. “We will be investing $1.3 million on upgrades and maintenance works at the Edmonton boat ramp and Fearnley Street ramp in Portsmith – This will buy a new pontoon to be installed in Edmonton and also cover the costs of rebuilding the existing boat ramp and floating walkway at Fearnley Street. “We’ll also undertake maintenance at Tinaroo’s Church Street ramp, to ensure safe access into the lake. “Fishing and being out on the water is synonymous with our way of life and the Palaszczuk Government is committed to seeing Queensland waterways have great facilities for locals to regularly use, as well as providing a boost for local tourism. “Whether you’re in a tropical creek, heading bush or exploring the rich waters of the Coral Sea, the fact is if you can’t catch it in Far North Queensland then it’s probably not worth catching.” Mr Pitt said works were already underway right around Queensland to widen, rebuild and upgrade boat ramps, pontoons and floating walkways courtesy of the Palaszczuk Government’s $30 million boost to the Marine Infrastructure fund. “Earlier this year I announced that the Redbank boat ramp would be widened to four lanes and a floating walkway will be installed and we’re also widening facilities at the Bellenden Kerr boat ramp,” Mr Pitt said. “These works will improve safety and accessibility by allowing for faster and improved boat launching and retrieval operations and better access. “One in every 19 Queenslanders own a boat, and the popularity of recreational boating and fishing is continually increasing – it’s important to provide facilities that will meet this demand. “That’s why we’re investing more than $30 million in vital boating infrastructure upgrades under the Marine Infrastructure fund over the next two years.” An online survey was recently launched to obtain community insight as to what local boating infrastructure is needed. In June 1935, 70 giant American Toads (Bufo Marinus), 35 male and female were brought from Hawaii and bred in captivity at Meringa Experiment Station and then later released on farms. Many political changes began in 1935 (also industrial). The Weil’s disease strike was instrumental in the introduction of general order for burning of cane before harvesting in the 1936 season. The local authority was Mulgrave Shire Council. In 1935 political campaigning was done by distribution of pamphlets in addition to limited numbers of newspaper ads. Campaigning was done by house to house visits, but chiefly by street corner meetings conducted on soapboxes on the back of lorries or trucks. Street lighting was limited and many meetings were conducted by lights from carbide lamps. Crowds always gathered around and the meetings were always lively and entertaining with an occasional brawl to lend some atmosphere. Unionists held monthly A.W.U. meetings in the Nelson Theatre and often had over 200 unionists in attendance.

Robyn’s Bowen Therapy & Emmett Technique

Are your knees holding you back? Knee pain can not only be painful but it can also stop you doing the things you love to do. I have dealt with a wide range of knee problems in my clinic. Do you have difficulties walking upstairs or downstairs? Do you have pain in a specific part of your knee? Many of these problems relate to the attached muscles or even muscles in

other parts of the body that have caused an imbalance in your posture and put strain on your knees. Hip, back and knee problems can be connected and require a full body adjustment. By releasing specific muscles a Bowen and Emmett treatment can take the pressure off bones, joints and ligaments. It can realign you so that your body can function at its best. If you are experiencing knee pain, try this gentle technique as a means of reducing the pain and addressing the cause of the pain.

Robyn’s Real Estate Read Welcome to this month's Editorial of all things Real Estate. There is a great deal of optimism in both the Business and Tourism Sectors with accommodation houses experiencing good occupancy rates and record numbers of tourists visiting our city by either plane, boat or car. We are also hearing that visitors are no longer only booking holidays to our region in the traditional "winter months" with steading booking all year round. Widening of the southern section of the Bruce Highway between Mount Sheridan and Bentley Park, as well as parts of Fishery Falls/Deeral plus land release imminent in the Mt Peter area, there are good signs of economic recovery for our region in the next 6 to 12 months. Based on this positive outlook, there has never been a better time to purchase a successful tourist/hospitality business and I am proud to present the Fishery Falls Hotel business and freehold for sale. Being one of the only hotels on the main highway from Innisfail to Cairns, this is an excellent location to capture passing trade. This premises has an enviable reputation locally and could easily improve on its excellent current turnover. Don't forget that if you are thinking of selling in the next few months, it is a perfect time to prepare your property for the Christmas rush period and people are already buying homes due to being transferred to the area. If you would like to receive a Listing Checklist on how to maximise your selling price or are looking for a no obligation appraisal of your biggest asset in today's market please give me a call or email for an honest and confidential chat about your real estate needs. Two Local Identities Moving On All good things come to an end and this month we will be farewelling to local Gordonvale identities as they move on to other challenges. Firstly we say goodbye to popular Gordonvale High School teacher Patrice HONNEFF who is taking up a position as head of the English department at Innisfail State College. Patrice has been teaching at Gordonvale High since 1994 and is known as a dedicated and hard working teacher. Patrice will also be fondly be remembered as the driver behind many extra curricular activities such as Aspirations Day, We Will Remember, Lions Youth of the Year, and Remembrance and Anzac Day commemorations. Patrice has worked tirelessly to achieve the best out of her students and leaves with huge amount of respect from teachers, students and other members of the community. We wish her well in the future at Innisfail State College. This month we also say goodbye to Sergeant Renee Hanrahan who will take up a promotion as officer in charge of Mount Isa police station. Renee has been an integral part of the Gordonvale community since taking up the position in a relieving role giving the station and community some stability until the new candidate is chosen. This new position is a promotion for Renee to the rank of Senior Sergeant. Renee was often seen at many of the local community events and was on many local committees to provide advice especially when it came to all matters of policing. Once again Renee will be missed, but we wish her and her young family the best in the future.
