Fight #1

Main screen Yes, without doubt I am in the right place! BTW, nice logo, huh? :)

So this is what I may like. Clear enough.đ&#x;‘?Â

{

Easy access to every section. Perfect!

Home. Yeah. That’s truly informative :|

vs.

What else is there? Is there anything? Like, anything worth

my effort to search for it? "

Should I tap it to see what I like? What are the articles below in that case?

#weeklyUXfight #MobeeDick

Navigation Home, that’s obvious.

Looks like the bookmark icon I see by the article. I’ll probably find bookmarked stuff there.

>

Yay, found other stuff!

Ring, ring! Classic.

Sheet of paper with plus sign? So, I can also write sth myself, right? Nice!

Nice, obvious menu! đ&#x;‘Œ

Home. Sure thing. We know what’s home already.

vs.

Oh yeah. That’s where all my profile details probably are.

Bookmarks, yup, that’s also quite intuitive. But‌ interests? What are interests? Are these my interest? Or general interesting stuff?

>

No idea đ&#x;¤ˇ Stats? Eee‌?

Well, not so nice menu. And definitely not obvious! đ&#x;˜ś #weeklyUXfight #MobeeDick

Details Oh, that’s so nice, that you

Huh? Did I clap for this article already? I haven’t even read it yet! đ&#x;¤”

Only one article visible. But well designed lead with clear information hierarchy sure does encourage me to read it!

Does it mean it’s bookmarked or not actually? Not sure.

vs.

won’t hide when scrolling đ&#x;˜? Let’s stick together till the end of time, as I’m not planning to go premium (I’m an Android user, after all*). It’s nice, that I can see more than one article, but do you really have to cut the lead halfway? Is it really so, that users find category name more important than the author’s name? *I really am! #weeklyUXfight #MobeeDick

Details Uh yeah. I feel important  đ&#x;‘‘

Edit, share. Pretty obvious.

Well, this screen does not make me feel special, even though it is my section.

So, is tweeting my profile the only way to share it?

vs.

Really, Medium? Is it that hard to place here something to keep me here? Like, anything?

Oh, my highlights. That’s cool! I can scan quickly all the smart stuff I once found! đ&#x;‘?

To sum up! Medium on iOS presents nice, clean design. With intuitive bottom navigation, so natural for iOS users, combined with readable information hierarchy, makes exploring
the app effortless. Adding smart content management that gently encourages the user to stay longer, makes using Medium quite a delightful experience.

>

Android Medium version seems to be somehow half-baked. Using hamburger menu, which is completely groundless in this case, the app hides from the user its full potential. What’s even worse, when user will finally make it to the menu, she will be confused by ambiguous names of its elements. Annoying patterns, such as constantly pinned premium offer, do not make the experience any better.

Take care!

See you next week!
