Fight #7
Main Screen Well, these are not iOS tabs and actually on iOS there is no design pattern for so many elements. The solution I’d consider in this case is to use slider with categories instead of tabs.
The share icon typical for iOS. Nice attention to details!
On both systems main screens look practically the same. The navigation works slightly different though, so don’t be deceived!
vs.
Tabs designed in Material Design spirit.
Material share icon đ&#x;‘? Gazeta Wyborcza succeeded in implementing nice and clean design. đ&#x;‘?

Navigation Well, this is an interesting hybrid of Human Interface and Material Design patterns: personalised list of hamburger menu elements…
Well ain’t that one great solution! Hamburger menu with FAB alike button and personalised list of menu elements…
vs.
Seems like hamburger menu. But seems only. Hmm, try to reorder elements and scroll the list at the same time. Let me tell you - it leads to frustration!
At least the drawer slides over the navigation bar, just as it supposes to… #weeklyUXfight #MobeeDick
Article Nicely applied iOS icons. I really like that in this app đ&#x;˜Œ
Only subtle differences between article view on iOS and Android. But that’s perfectly fine here!
vs. This is a nice gesture to guide the user to next article at the end of currently read one.
Material icons - clear in meaning and consistent with application’s look&feel. I can’t help the feeling that Gazeta Wyborcza adopts quite different strategies between systems‌ Bottom bar showing up only when scrolling up - rather popular solution on Android, also in this case completely acceptable.

Settings The settings view slides up from the bottom edge of the screen, which is not typical for this kind of interaction. Where did attention to details go? The top right corner on iOS is typically occupied by positive action like Ok, Done, Send etc. Close is not positive action. Despite the above comments I must admit by Settings view one can instantly tell that she’s using iOS.
Okay. Let’s be clear. Settings icon ≠more menu icon. So don’t use it like one.
vs. Settings are split between two elements: more menu and “Otherâ€? screen. Is it very useful? I’m not quite convinced‌ CT A to subscribe. Another noticeable difference in strategy đ&#x;¤¨ #weeklyUXfight #MobeeDick

To sum up Gazeta Wyborcza on iOS does not follow Human Interface guidelines much: hamburger menu with very unusual patterns used, multiple tabs, that are not common on iOS and untypical interactions such as opening Settings.
>
Still, worth appreciation are the details: icons and the use of contrast between surfaces (as in Settings) and the general clarity of the app. What’s also interesting, the sales strategy on iOS is quite different from the one presented on Android. Definitely less intrusive!
One can see Material Design alike patterns used almost in every section of Gazeta Wyborcza app: navigation drawer (hamburger menu), more menu, icons, etc. But these aren’t consistent with Material Design, as they supposed to be. In addition to all of this, take the intrusive, nagging subscription offer and you’re left with a feeling of slight disappointment - unfulfilled promise of nice Google design… Still, the Android version applies guidelines more correctly…

And the winner is…

Take care!
