For Rachel Brenchley, founder of BasicGrey, the drive to create beautiful designs has taken her beyond paper and fabric. “I joke that I need to pick a lane,” she laughs, explaining that her passion for design has spread to architecture, interior design, and even landscaping. “I’ve designed entire homes for people, including the interiors and landscaping!”
From scrapbooking products to landscaping? You’d expect nothing less from a designer who began in a completely different industry and went one to develop one of Moda’s most popular basics collections to date!
Rachel started BasicGrey as a surface design company about 20 years ago, largely focusing on papercrafting products at first. But when she connected with Moda Fabrics a few years later, designing for fabric felt like a natural next step. “My mother and grandmothers and aunties
Brenchley of BasicGrey
were quilters,” Rachel explains, so she was familiar with quilting even though she did not sew much herself.
Though BasicGrey has designed almost 50 fabric collections for Moda over the years, the brand is most closely associated with Grunge, its much-loved line of basics. “People weren’t quite sure what to do with Grunges at first,” says Rachel. But Grunges were part of the BasicGrey aesthetic right from the start, appearing in Urban Couture, BasicGrey’s debut fabric collection for Moda. “I’ve always preferred a little depth to things,” Rachel says, noting that even in her own home, she chooses elements that are “not so pristine – like lacquered brass and older furniture.”
Once quilters figured out that Grunge’s unique, layered texture – created by printing on dyed fabric – has the ability to
adapt to the prints and colors used around it, Grunge’s popularity soared. It wasn’t long before it became a Moda Basic, and now, BasicGrey usually introduces a few new Grunge colors with each collection.
“Sometimes, I have an idea in mind” when sitting down to design the next BasicGrey collection, Rachel says. For Sunday Brunch, Rachel says that it all began with a feeling. “I just wanted a collection that felt really happy and joyful, with a color palette that felt warm and inviting and radiated happiness.”
With that idea and feeling in mind, Rachel recalled a happy memory of a family meal that served as the creative spark for the print designs in this collection. “’Crepe’ (one of the prints in Sunday Brunch) was inspired by my mom’s collection of doilies,” which she keeps in a basket at the family’s cabin in Montana. Rachel tells the story of a time that her daughter set the table for Sunday brunch at the cabin by covering the table with the doilies.
From there, the collection just took on a life of its own. Rachel says part of the fun of designing a collection like Sunday Brunch is the process of deciding how to interpret these very specific brunch-related things – like scrambled eggs and pancakes, or colorful drinks – into print designs. “I wanted the floral to be delicate,” she explains – like a Dutch Baby, the name of the gorgeous large floral print in Sunday Brunch. A stack of pancakes – Short Stack – becomes a delightful stripe. And that warm and happy color palette Rachel wanted to create rounds out the concept with shades like Spritzer, Tea, OJ, Mimosa, Bellini, and Julep.
and her family
Designers often choose a meaningful quote for their fabric selvedges that they feel captures the spirit of the collection. For Sunday Brunch, Rachel chose a quote from musician Drake: “Smile more than you cry, give more than you take, and love more than you hate.” To Rachel, this collection –like the happy memories that inspired it –is a reminder to do just that.
“I love the idea of brunch,” Rachel says, explaining that if you were able to have brunch, it meant that your day was laid back – you got to sleep in or just enjoy a slower pace that day. As a busy mom of four active kids ranging in age from early teens to early 20s – not to mention as a successful owner of a creative business –“I need more of those simple moments!” Rachel says.
Whether you’re stitching up a cozy quilt, a cheerful table runner, or beautiful bags and pouches, Sunday Brunch is the perfect collection for creating projects that celebrate the simple, happy joys in life!

Things Above is a collection filled with reminders of truth & hope, and as the name states - a gentle nudge of where to fix our minds and thoughts…not on earthly things but on things above!
This colorful collection will have you working with scripture panels and creation-filled prints from sunshine to waves and raindrops. Playful florals top off the collection, and a large statement panel is going to be an encouraging focal point of so many quilts.
Things Above also has projects like a pillow bundle and quilts that showcase both panel options. It is my hope that this collection is a blessing to all who come across it, and may it remind us to fix our minds on Things Above!

How do you capture the wind on the water? How do you count all the stars in the sky? How do you measure thea love of mother, Or how do you write down a babys first cry?
-John Rutter, Candle Light CarolWhere do you go to find your fondest memories? How do you keep them close by? Love Letter is an exploration of these ideas: Swans and their cygnets, ripe strawberries, unexpected birthday flowers, the enchantment of a garden, botanicals from a hidden mountain forest, the smell of a line-dried dress, and a long-treasured gift. All these things denote the love of a mother for her baby, the growing and stretching of a woman, and the evolution of an artist.
With a dreamy color palette that weaves in and out of the light, Lizzy House introduces a new generation of quilters and makers to her whimsical, charming, and nostalgic work. Love Letter is the beginning of a new era and is sure to become a lasting favorite.

Drawing upon a rich tapestry of vintage linens and a cherished heritage, the Sunshine & Blue Skies fabric collection by Laura Muir for Moda Fabrics is a heartfelt tribute to the warmth of yesteryears and the enduring comfort of family memories. The inspiration for this line stems from Laura Muir's own treasury of vintage sheets and fabrics, lovingly amassed over time, with some of the most precious pieces tracing back to her dear grandmother's 'Sunshine Room'. It was there that the cheerful yellow roses on bedsheets and pillowcases blossomed into fond recollections, as vibrant and soothing now as they were in Laura's childhood.
Every pattern in the Sunshine & Blue Skies collection is a nod to this legacy, echoing the happiness and solace found in those sweet, sunlit chambers. The artwork, while radiating a distinct modern vibrancy, preserves the essence of the vintage floral designs that Laura holds dear, especially those that continue to inspire her ongoing love affair with floral sheets of bygone eras.
This fabric collection is not merely an assembly of designs; it is an invitation to bask in the nostalgia of Laura's 'Sunshine Room', to wrap oneself in the embrace of a sunny disposition, and to craft new memories that are as vivid and joyful as the prints themselves. With Sunshine & Blue Skies, Laura Muir of Create Joy Project for Moda Fabrics aspires to share not just fabric, but a slice of happiness and a burst of warmth that can only be compared to a clear, joyful day under the sun-drenched sky.

As the selvedge says, “Begin Anew,” a reminder that this refreshed palette and varied pairing of prints provides a novel perspective. Stroll through a field of flowers with 3 Sisters as the setting sun casts a rose-gold glow on wild blooms waving in the breeze. Along the horizon, the sky fades from a dusty, minty blue into a soft rose quartz pink, while the edges of the sky are tinged with the inky indigo of night.
With Sandalwood, 3 Sisters — known for their eclectic interpretation of nostalgic designs with a contemporary sensibility — have combined romantic, sophisticated prints with a stylish color palette to capture those fleeting, magical moments when day turns to night.
Roses have been my passion for years, and I've planted dozens of varieties. Then, one year, I planted some hollyhock seeds behind a few of my roses, trying to get that cottage garden feel. When the hollyhock seeds sprouted, I watched the plants grow, waiting patiently for the flowers, but to my surprise, the flowers didn’t come until the following year. I was so excited when they blossomed with the most colorful flowers, becoming a beautiful backdrop for the roses. Then I realized these two plants were meant to be friends; it just took them a while to get to know each other, and the idea for Hollyhocks & Roses was born!
In shades of hollyhock blues, rose pinks, reds, and a bit of earthy taupe, Hollyhocks & Roses brings the freshness of spring to your sewing projects. It’s a fabric line with possibilities for clothing, home décor and quilts. Welcome to the world of Hollyhocks & Roses. I hope you have fun!- Anne Sutton

Our country has many wonderful ways to celebrate it’s heritage. Fireworks, cookouts, parades, anthems, and of course, flowers! Most of our celebrations occur in the summer, so flowers fit right in. “Red, White and Bloom!” embraces everything Americana…flags, stars, inspiring words and even red cardinals. Rich colors and traditional icons are featured for those looking for classic patriotic fabrics, with softer flowers and birds also included for a new approach. This collection would be perfect for your next patriotic project…just plant the seeds and watch it BLOOM!

For Goodnight Irene, I found inspiration in the colors of my paternal grandmother’s garden. Irene Powell Reed, born 1897 in Blooming Grove, Texas, was quite a gardener, with a firecracker personality. She helped me make my first dress on her treadle machine without a pattern. And years after, when I married, she gave me an Angel Wing Begonia that I have treasured and nurtured for nearly 48 years.
Memories of hot summer days with Mama Reed were the best, whether we were working the treadle, picking vegetables, or smelling her roses. At the end of the day, I would hear Papa’s softly spoken words, “Goodnight, Irene.”
This collection has designs inspired by flowers: Evelyn’s Flower Garden, updated to include a purple and green version; Blooming Grove, in pinks and greens; and Lilacs and Roses, because her favorite colors were all the shades of pink and purple.
Quotes about gardens so inspire me. I wanted to include these charming words of growth and patience into a fabric line and that is how Bloom and Grow came to be. The quotes themselves inspired the images I drew. To add a bit of a vintage look, I created the designs as silhouettes honoring the profile silhouettes I remember making in my youth.
This garden theme lent itself to a panel of embroidery designs too! The fun thing about this panel is that the designs already have a hand-stitched look to them. They can be used as they are or you can add your own embroidery stitches to them.
I’m so excited to introduce my Cali & Co. fabric line. I’ve designed this collection featuring sweet calico (Cali + co = Calico) prints in my signature warm, happy palette. I wanted to create a line, full of a rainbow of color, using all small-scale prints. You will find dainty florals, sweet cherries, and whimsical dots throughout these fabrics. I hope you love creating with Cali & Co.! I can’t wait to see what you create. - Corey

Let’s get away to the shore and breathe the fresh air. gather shells, and walk along the beach. Serena Shores celebrates the seaweed washed upon the sand and sand dollars and starfish mixed with lacy coral. My coastal happy place has lovely white and blue Agapanthus, also called Lily of the Nile. The flowers grow tall and bloom in a grand globe, making big lacy spheres of trumpet-like petals.
Serena Shores has new Thatched shades of Coastal, Breeze, Frost, Aqua, Surf, and Lime which join the existing Lagoon deep green for the calming palette. Coordinates to the Agapanthus main flowers include sketchy shells, beachcomber treasures, linked rings, seaweed strands, and a delicate paisley.

This collection is a ourney into my childhood adventures, chasing bugs, spotting birds, and picking wild strawberries and flowers. The sketchy style draws inspiration from my messy sketchbook pages, mirroring the first drawing I ever remember – a big doodle with two dots and two curved lines that surprisingly formed a bird.

Most folks that farm come from a long lineage of farmers. This stands true for my family as well. Farmstead celebrates the ourney of my family's farm history, starting with my Great Grandfather Simon Cornelius Iest. e started his agricultural career running a creamery in Bathmen, Netherlands. In 1921, he decided to move to America with his wife and 12-year-old son, my grandfather, Rudolf Iest. There he started several businesses, but eventually started his own dairy. This fostered a love of agriculture for my grandfather, father, uncles, and brothers.
The prints in Farmstead are a celebration of agriculture from the past, my greatgrandmother Johanna’s love of flowers and tradition passed down from generations. intage blues, golds, reds, and earth tones create a palette perfect for any sewing pro ect. This collection also includes three panels, a farm animal blocks panel in two color ways, and a sweet farm cut-and-sew book. The five quilts in this collection also celebrate farm life and its beauty.
Farmstead is my way of honoring the hard work and perseverance of the past and for all those farmers who provide so much to our world today.
