â&#x20AC;&#x153;I am a classically trained photographer with a minor in history who eventually pursued a career in finance, finally becoming a financial analyst. It took me years of experimentation before I found my niche marketâ&#x20AC;ŚI never thought I was going to be a fashion photographer"

Arthur von Trypa has had an incredible journey, from the opposite poles of tracking markets to taking photos. But his business background prepared him for the realities that face every successful artist - commercialisation of their product or service. He worked hard to find his niche, and this took him to New York City, Toronto and Miami. He and his partner Yaryna are also house photographers of TOM*-Toronto Fashion Week, and official accredited photo/video team of New York Fashion Week Men's. Arthur normally photographs on the runway and occasionally street, while Yaryna does front row, backstage and interviews. Arthur attributes much of his success to his partner's support and creative contribution. Arthur was recently published in Vogue Italia, but he sees that as just the beginning. Each point of recognition in the fashion industry is a stepping-stone to the next big thing. Taking small steps (or in Arthur's case, big steps) can get you there faster than trying to take a short-cut to the finish line.

Hi Arthur, please tell us something really cool about you! Since I am a fashion photographer, I do appreciate fashion, the work going into it, the art. I have a collection of 450 shirts mostly bespoke (custom made just for me) and over 200 ties. Every time I visit a new place, I try to buy a piece of clothing or accessories that is produced locally, be it a tie, suit, dress shirt, shoes or a set of cufflinks… How did you get to where you are now in your career? I am a very social person, and have been introduced to many people in the industry by friends of mine… After graduating from Ryerson University, I kept in touch… After my first fashion shoot, I started doing fashion shows, assisted staff Rolling Stone Magazine photographer, photographed Miss Universe pageants, over the years things started falling in place… How did your education prepare you for the future? I am a classically trained photographer with a minor in history who eventually pursued a career in finance finally becoming a financial analyst. It took me years of experimentation before I found my niche market…I never thought I was going to be a fashion photographer, I loved the clothes, though… One day a friend took me to see a supermodel Christy Turlington, who signed my photo and wished me good luck! That was the turning point! I have attended and photographed shows in Berlin, Copenhagen, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City & Toronto, it helps knowing fashion, fashion history, art history, history of photography. It also helps being exposed to some of the best equipment out there, as well as knowing photographic chemistry inside and out, I was blessed to be there. At some point while at university I took the archival processes workshop at Eastman Kodak House, which is an amazing experience if you like black & white photography!

What person has been your inspiration in life? Who is your hero? When it comes to photography I absolutely adore Helmut Newton for his black & white photographs, the way he photographed supermodels was something that is no longer done these days. I admire David LaChapelle for his amazing colour photos. Inspiration in my life, however comes from the best young journalist, art director, designer, photographer & scientist Yaryna Rybak. Without her I would have been lost, she challenges me intellectually, pushes my creative side, is a wealth of information, and above all calms me down! Do you feel like you’ve met your goals and are successful? I don’t think you can ever say that, I love to learn, I love to be pushed, to challenge myself, to say I have met my goals would simply be premature! There’s so much to accomplish! After recently being published in Vogue Italia, my goal is to be published in all four major Vogue magazines, the American Vogue, Vogue Paris, British Vogue and Vogue Italia again! If you had to do it over again, what would you change? I would have moved to New York City at the age of 13 and started earlier!

What advice would you give someone who is young and wants to have a position such as yours one day? Be respectful and social, introduce yourself to the people in the industry at the early stages, designers, stylists, makeup artists, hair stylists, magazine editors, advertising agents, models, modelling agencies, clothing buyers and other photographers. You have to read, feel and breathe fashion! These are the people that can help you! If you ever have to do a job that requires equipment you cannot afford, rent it! It makes your life so much easier! How do you stay inspired? I read books, on-line and printed magazines, watch fashion shows, I attend gallery openings, I continuously watch store displays, I flip through catalogues looking for ideas, and above all I am seeking inspiration, guidance and creative challenges through my partner Yaryna! I do have a substantial collection of magazines that I can go back to, many fashion & art books, as well as books on photography, I am constantly looking into social media, seek ideas on the Internet. Being challenged and inspired by another person makes this creative connection...

What photography related tips would you give our readers? Read photography magazines on-line or printed, read equipment reviews, surround yourself with people from the photographic community, attend trade shows. How can people reach you for a job? Rates depend on the complexity of the project, time duration, location, permits if needed and copyrightâ&#x20AC;Ś What's your favourite camera? I use many different cameras for different jobs. I use 35mm film, 35mmbased digital, medium and large format cameras. Runway is the Nikon D5 territory, Nikon D800 for the studio if the time is of essence, Hasselblad for commercial work, large format 4x5 Sinar or 8x10 Linhof for advertising and creative work. Black and white 35mm film photography is always done with a Leica, while I use a medium format Rolleiflex/Sinar for studio or outdoors if I have to use film or want to use digital back with it at the same time. I process all my black & white film myself, while colour and digital are done at the lab. I use minimal amount of Photoshop. I have used most types of film and most digital cameras over the years, and I see why there are so many types. They are tools to do a job, and they are designed to do that job well. Thereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s no universal camera out there! Tell us something very interesting while working with a model. I was working with an MMA fighter who was extremely shy. I could not get him to pose at all. I poured a glass of wine only to find out his liver was shut, and see him totally drunk within minutes!!! He ended up goofing around, but in the end I ended up with one amazing photo!

Who is your favourite model? Coco Rocha! I have photographed Coco on the runways of New York City for a number of years, we have met many times, I have her wonderful book 1000 Poses with my personal inscription! "I took my finals on June 28th, 2014 and since July 2nd I have been working at my hairstylistâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s salon. I started working even before attending a hairstyling academy. I was just helping her with shampoo and sweeping hair, but she realised I was really talented. Since then, she gave my more and more responsibilities, making me grow day by day. I will always be thankful for everything she taught me.I have always worked with Kadus Professional and had the chance to meet the whole Kadus team, which I impressed too."

Why do you think you decided to become a hair stylist? Hairstyling has always been a great passion of mine, even though I did not expect it to become my whole life. A couple of years ago, during high school, I would always braid my classmate's hair just for fun. I was studying languages at that time, and my dream was to become a language teacher. However, that changed when I realised there was a bigger passion, which is hairstyling. I do not regret studying languages at all since that gave me a wide knowledge about a lot of different fields, but I feel hairstyling comes from my heart. It is like a wedding gown: you know when you have the right one.

Which iconic hairstyles do you love? I do not have a specific hairstyle that I find iconic. I like avant-garde hairstyles, structured braids, strong haircuts, that is everything hiding geometric shapes. Even waves have a geometry behind them. Super straight lines, diagonals and triangles are the basis of haircuts, colours and hairstyles. Who inspires you? There is a group of hairstylists who have been inspiring me ever since I met them for the first time two years ago, which is the ForYOU group by Kadus Professional. Their energy and harmony have always inspired me. Thank you guys! Which skills are required to succeed as a hair stylist? If you want to be a hairstylist, you need to be beyond creative, you always have to keep up with the latest trends and predict trends too, but above all, you need to have a great passion for your job! That will always be your strength. As a hair stylist, what do you offer that can ensure more business? I guess the secret is to have a good connection to your clients and always bring them up-to-date with the latest trends. While you are working, they have to feel your passion for your job running through your scissors and your excitement while explaining a fashion colour. As a consequence, they will be interested in new trends and will always want to experiment. Have you ever done a course and where did you do the course? Of course, I have. I have been attending a Hairstyling Academy in Milan called “Club Beauté” for two years. I highly recommend that school!

On what basis do you recommend hairstyles to your clients? To begin with, you need to know what suits your skin colour, your head shape, your eye colour and so on. Then, you have to make your client’s hairstyle practical, since a lot of women nowadays do not have the time or the ability to style their hair as we do. Last but now least, your client has to feel the hairstyle, she has to feel at ease with what you are giving her. Otherwise, if you have a demanding client who wants a strong look and always wants her hairstyle on point, go for crazy looks! She will always be down for YOUR retouch no matter what! Who have you worked for that you could tell your future clients that you are so proud of? So far, after only two years of hairstyling career, I have been working a lot with magazines, for instance, a Luxury web magazine, DArt. Thanks to this magazine, I had the chance to work with Eva Robin’s as well! In addition to this, I have been working for a whole month at Versace Showroom in Milan. That is the best experience ever, and I hope to be back at Versace in September. I have a lot of job requests right now and a tonne of projects so…Fingers crossed! What is THE hottest hair trend at the moment? The biggest hair trend right now is PASTEL COLOURS! You see them everywhere! It is the trend I love the most, from clothing to hair colours of course. From Rose Quartz, Serenity (pastel blue), which are the two Colour PANTONE of the year, to grey shades. I am totally addicted to them!

Which hair product do you think every woman should have? There are two hair products I would never work without Velvet Oil by Kadus Professional, an amazing oil which helps repair and restructures your hair and gives lightweight styling, while the other one is The Original Iron by CloudNine which is the best iron ever!

Advice for our readers who aspire to be a hairstylist one day? GO FOR IT! Hairstyling is just great; it is an art that inspires you day by day, constantly. It is going to be your job 24/7, it is YOUR life, and I could not imagine myself doing anything else. What truly matters is that everything you do comes from your heart

Tell us about yourself: Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in modelling as a career?

He has always felt comfortable and relaxed as an actor and model and initially fell into it by a friend putting him forward for a commercial. How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken?

He has not attended modelling courses, however working and listening to the photographer is essential to get the best out of a job. What do you think makes someone â&#x20AC;&#x153;fitâ&#x20AC;? to be a model?

What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field? I think it is important to know when to have fun when to change moods and to be as relaxed as possible.

What do you know about the advertisement i n d u s t r y, a d v e r t i s i n g p s y c h o l o g y a n d photography? Charlie knows that he is a tool, if you like, to make a product look as best it possibly can to sell more of the product ultimately. How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clientsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; requirements? Charlie loves life and enjoys the diversity that modelling brings to him. The people he meets and what he learns is critical. Listening and the following direction is key. Do you eat nutritiously? How often do you exercise or go to the gym?

Charlie is very self-motivated which helps so much as a parent. He, himself, decided at around 11 years old that he would eat as nutritiously as possible although let's face it he loves a hot dog, hot chocolate and Pringles occasionally as well as the Haribo gummy bears.

Charlie know that to be able to continue with modelling and acting he needs to put school first, so he makes sure homework is out of the way. Charlie's life is busy, but he loves it that way he is also very active physically and plays a lot of sport.

What is your dream role as a model? Charlie would love to represent some of the high-end male fashion in the future for the likes of Versace or Calvin Klein, however at the moment loves the fun of surf and swimwear product ranges. Do you have any limitations? How do you define your boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request? Not really as long as shots are not "too sexual" at his age. State your availability: Would you travel? Work full-time, part time? Any hours? Charlie's availability is based on school. However, he can travel and work on a part-time basis. Apparently not full time at the moment. As a parent, it is imperative that your child wants to do this work and thoroughly understands the commitment is takes. I also think it is critical that with support your child is the master of his world to a point and responsible for "Keeping the balance". As a young model, we are continually teaching Charlie to remain humble and to be grateful for every opportunity that comes his way and very importantly. Be happy for others success not just his own. I love modelling, if I had the chance of being a professional model, I would love that! I want to be a role model for other curvy girls. As for now, I do the modelling next to my studies / work.

How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken? I attended a modelling class when I was 13 J I followed the course with my neighbour and my cousin, we had lots of fun @ FashionMove models & more, a boutique design agency in Belgium. Since then I am part of the agency J I have been doing photoshoots for ten years. Since I am curvier, I do more catwalks too. What do you think makes someone “fit” to be a model? I think size doesn’t matter. Looks are important; attitude is even more important. You have to take care of yourself, be motivated always to work hard and keep in shape (whatever that shape is ;-)) What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field? I finally quit trying to fit in a “regular” models, and I accepted that I am a curvy model. Since then my modelling career has had a boost. Just like Kim Kardashian or Ashley Graham, I would like to be a role model for other curvy girls.

For a long time girls / women in ads or magazines are pictured as skinny “perfect” girls, often there is too much photoshop to make these girls look even more “perfect”. Many curvy or plus size girls felt/feel bad because they don’t fit this “standard”. Also, many men think girls should look like that because that is the image advertising industry creates. So I am very happy there is some small revolution, and people start talking more about size diversity. Introducing “real” girls in ads make everyone feel better J But there is still a long way to go before people think it is normal to see more curvy girls in ads or magazines. It shouldn’t be an exception or a “particular issue”.

How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements? I am rather shy, I am not a big talker, but that improved a lot by doing modelling jobs. I am friendly and flexible as to clients’ requirements. But I don’t accept indecent proposals J Do you eat nutritiously? How often do you exercise or go to the gym? I always try to eat healthily. I eat fresh fruits every day; I love making healthy smoothies. I never eat pig meat but mainly chicken, beef and sometimes fish and vegetables of course. When I don’t have much time to cook or eat I take Herbalife shakes or meal bars (like on a job). I go to the gym three times a week, I play tennis once a week and sometimes we go for long walks.

What is your dream role as a model?

I would like to have more big jobs; I am slowly working on my career. Since I walked the Plussize Fashion Week in Paris, I have more people interested in me as a model. I was asked for interviews, fan signs, ... I also have gained some 5000 new Instagram followers in a couple of months time.I would love to be in other plus size fashion weeks like London or New York. And I am still dreaming of getting signed by an international agency and maybe do some big campaigns. Do you have any limitations? How do you define your boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request? I only accept jobs that would not harm my working career as a secretary. I donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t do naked or topless. If I could be a professional model, that would give me more opportunities in jobs. State your availability: Would you travel? Work full-time, part-time? Any hours?

I just finished my additional studies as a secretary and also as a makeup artist. Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;m looking for a part-time job now to combine with my modelling work. If I could be a full-time model, I would take that chance. Travelling the world would be a big challenge. Tell us what's your memorable experience so far. That would be walking the Plussize Fashion Week in Paris.

Favourite photographer? The past years I worked with many different photographers. But my favourite photographer is my dad J Some people think it is strange that my dad is shooting me, but when we start shooting, we’re just photographer and model J Since we know each other well, I always feel at ease working with him. I adore his style, and he’s always into trying new techniques. You can find him on Facebook Luc Grobben Photography. Favourite makeup artist? I don’t have one favourite makeup artist; I watch a lot of tutorials on YouTube. I just finished my makeup artist course. That is very useful as a model. Favourite designer? I worked several times with the Belgian designer Geert De Puysseleyr, as well for shootings as a catwalk. I adore his creations. If I ever get married, I’ll ask him to design my wedding dress J Favourite hairstylist? My first education was a hairstylist, so I admire people who are creative in this field. I recently had the chance of working with Murielle Katie, a French hair stylist/designer who makes very special creations with hair. I was chosen to model an exclusive dress made of hair.

Everything started when our designer RĹŤta graduated fashion design classes in the Vilnius Academy of Arts. Of cource looks are important, but the most important is the attitude. What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field? My goals as a model.. That's a tricky one haha, of course I would like to be known as a top model all over the world, but i think what I really want is to see as much as I can of this world and be financially happy. How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements? I like to think about myself as a friendly person. So far I have made myself liked, i'm very patient and open with the clients.

I really like going to gym, it's a good place to relieve yourself of stress and other thoughts. What is your dream role as a model? Rocking the fashion weeks all over Europe and New York. Tell us about yourself: Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in modelling as a career? I want to work as a model because I am not a basic model. I'm a model with character that you can't hide. How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken? I am now in 3 model agencies in Germany and I'm always trying to show more agencies photos of me but most are not searching for "my type". But I have had some good jobs in a video advertisement, a workshop job by one of the greatest photographers in Germany (Felix Rochor), and I have been featured in a catalogue. Tell us about yourself: Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in modelling as a career? I was born in an area Southeast of Asia and I found that women in different countries have different beauty and are unique. So i just want the world to discover different and unique beauty from this place too (Asia). There aren't very many women who model in Asia and I want to be one of them, to present our unique beauty to the world. How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken? Being an artist is a thing that comes from inside your heart and soul. I think I can learn from my experiences, because I think that experience is the best school where I can learn about modelling life. What do you think makes someone “fit” to be a model? I think that a model is paired with their own unique style . That is the thing that makes each model different and unique. That's cool! What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field?

I want to prove myself to people in my country, because some people in Asia are still not proud of their own beauty. I just want to show that original beauty is a beautiful thing too. Also modelling is a job that I always enjoy and am happy to work in. I think that if I do what I really love then everything will be great. What do you know about the advertisement industry, advertising psychology and photography? I know that the advertising industry influences many people but I think that photography is different. Photography has many styles and many kinds. It depends on the style of photographer, which has implications on the artistry, psychology, soul and heart in it.

Yes I am patient and easy going and enjoy my model work. I think that I have to learn from my experiences, and my experiences will teach me in real life what I should to do when I work with people and clients. I call that "my lessons from experience”. My body is naturally slim, so I don't diet. But yet, I would like to eat more vegetables, as that happens to be my favourite food. I exercise 2-3 times per week. What is your dream role as a model?

I like photoshoots, I always enjoy when I am in front of the camera. So my dream role as a model is to be a unique and exotic model on the cover on the magazine. Do you have any limitations? How do you define your boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request?

I had a chance to be on the runway for Elle Fashion week in Thailand in 2016. That was a great experience and the designer choose me because of my style,my unique face and my look. That made me so proud to be unique with my style in my soul.

How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken? I have attended courses with the manager of the agency I work with, plus I have attended a lot of courses that are related to photography. Modelling education is so important because without knowing the tips of how to stand in front of the camera, or how to deal with the environment if you are shooting outdoor pictures, it would be so difficult to give the audience what they expect to see.

What do you think makes someone “fit” to be a model? A person should have the requirements needed to be a model. A man should not only have a handsome face and a sexy body, he should aquire attraction, charm, he should force others to take a minute and look at him. The model's picture should have a voice saying "look at me”.

What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field?

My ulitimate goal as a model is to work with international agencies.

What do you know about the advertisement industry, advertising psychology and photography? Advertisement is almost everything. Whether you are surfing the net, or reading a magazine, or watching television, or even listening to the radio all what people watch and hear are ads. The right person in a combination with the right advertisement makes the change.

I eat healthy, I follow a strict high protein diet. I go to the gym six days per week, which means I have only one day off. A model should be in shape all the time. What is your dream role as a model?

What inspired you to start Heirs? I have worked in styling and fashion for a while now and wanted to make my own stamp on the world rather than use other peoples designsomething that was truly my own. I realised when studying at the Angewandte fashion class that accessories were my direction, rather than clothing. It is scary, especially as I am financing everything myself but well worth it. I started with HUGE, RIDICULOUS dreams that I realised I could only accomplish (AND I WILL one day) if I started step by step and invoice by invoice.

The concept of HEIRS was born at the same time as I wanted to start HENWOOD (my preservation label). I guess it is asking yourself what is important for yourself and finding a way to do it. For me I couldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t rule out my true belief - that innovation cannot exist without preservation and so I jumped into both. I get excited about both- preserving old heritage and craftsmanship that is slowly fading out, as well as innovation and modern industrial processes that are redefining the future. It is just what I want to do and feel the two are inextricably linked.

You have two accessories labels, Heirs and Henwood. What are the differences between the two?

Firstly, they are both tiny and I started them with HUGE dreams and a TINY budget. I have reduced my immediate dreams and found ways to produce tiny collections that make me move forward with bothâ&#x20AC;Ś.without giving up on those dreams and aspirations but taking them step by step. HENWOOD is a preservation line that focuses on heritage handcraft techniques (capsule collection of embroidered, rafia earrings will be out for Vienna Design week in Fall). For that I use my knowledge (OBSESSION) with old handcraft techniques, very fine material and incredible craftsmen to help me. For HEIRS, I use modern, cutting edge processes and design to produce pieces that I feel redefine convention.

You believe that INNOVATION is just as important as PRESERVATION. Can you please elaborate? I think I have answered this..but yes..it is my ethos. I think you need to know what has been before you in order to do something new. They are inextricably linked for me.

What is your personal favorite collection? I have only done 1 so I can only speak about that..I am learning by doing… but without wanting to sound arrogant I believe that SIRIUS is a strong debut collection. I have had some really exciting opportunities over the last few weeks from industry professionals that make me believe in it even more. The fingertip rings such as ALPHA and POLARIS are really innovative design that I can stand strongly behind. There will be some very exciting fashion idols wearing them soon which I am immensely proud of. The collection of Henwood earrings is in production and I can’t wait to show the world once I have finished them. I will be wearing them all winter.

How did you discover a need for this type of product in the marketplace? I don’t really believe there is a NEED, fashion is a luxury, however, I don’t like the fleeting nature of fashion. I believe that design can be considered beautiful forever. I live in a country that I wasn’t born in but believe in as a hub for design and craftsmanship. I think that I want to show the world that Austria must also be considered as a hub for design and innovation today, not just in the past. The people I meet are truly inspirational and the slow pace of life allows them to maintain some old crafts.Engagement rings are my favourite things to design-for both labels. I feel the NEED is perhaps greater there. The need to design something that the client loves and can look at everyday on their hand and smile. That is a great honour. Engagement rings are unique, timeless and magical.

What has been the most difficult aspect of getting your brand off the ground and how did you overcome that? FEAR is a real issue. It took me longer than most due to that exact reason. Sleepless nights, lack of confidence and noone to bounce ideas off can be challenging as you watch your bank balance dwindle and your energy plummet. I have the most incredibly inspiring friends that I couldn’t survive without - they keep me sane, driven and thankful in those moments. The financial aspect is very difficult. If someone gave me a huge pot of gold I feel I would fly… but if you approach it as a challenge then the financial burden becomes a clear indicator that you want to pursue your dreams even more.

What are two aspects of business in which you believe a new brand should invest resources?

PR. If I could afford it then I would most certainly invest here first. Getting people around the world to see your work is normally the main motivation and can obviously boost sales drastically. "I wanted to find something the world hasn’t already seen– a new definition of beauty that is new and extraordinary." Our comment: Yes. We see that in your products. All of it.

That is very humbling, thank you so much. BLUSH! Watch out future! What are the services that consumers can take advantage of from your company?

It was important for me that HEIRS pieces were what I consider ‘affordable’ despite the small amounts I produce and therefore I took the decision to plate the sterling silver pieces. The plating is done using a new technique and is double thickness to conventional plating as well as being rhodanized- it is therefore very durable. I do offer my clients to contact me regarding ‘servicing’ pieces so that they can keep them looking great (plating/polishing) and I can truly know the durability of the processes that I am experimenting with. I also believe customer satisfaction is what will keep you growing as a brand and gain loyalty so I reply to every email, every call. People have requested the rings in real diamonds and gold and one off pieces such as engagement rings which I am always happy to do.

Any pieces of advice for young entrepreneurs who want to open similar labels like yours? DO IT! You only regret what you didn’t try. Through failure comes knowledge. No one ever changed the world through copying- be an original. How do our readers buy your products? Do you ship internationally?

How did you get to where you are now in your career? As I am still young, I feel like I have not reached the peak in my career as such. But I am motivated to work towards where I would like to be in the art industry. Taking photos is such a passion of mine, so I can't imagine doing anything else. As of now it feels like just the beginning, I'm still learning new things every time I pick up my camera for a shoot. I wouldn't be where i currently am now without all the wonderful support I have received through Instagram, other artists and creatives I have worked with. It's all about collaborating and remembering your passion for something you love doing. How did your education prepare you for the future? I guess everyone has a different experience when it comes to education as we all learn in different ways, so for me I feel as though I am still learning all the time. Even though I have finished all my education, it has prepared me to come to the reality that the learning process doesn't ever stop! It has created a base of knowledge and skills to work and grow from, and i was lucky to have very helpful Tutors when i undertook my Diploma who work in the industry so I was able to get a raw insight. What person has been your inspiration in life? Who is your hero? A lot of my family members and relatives are all into and have done art. My mum is a graphic designer, and my grandmother is an illustrator. As I have grown up around art, I have been inspired by their talents and have always wanted to do art. When I was 13 my mum bought me my first little digital camera, which is when I started discovering a love for taking pictures, and one day my mum said "why don't you become a photographer", so I thought you know what, yes i would like to be. So since then I haven't stopped. I'd say my mum is an inspiration for keeping me inspired about art and encouraging me to do something I love. Do you feel like you’ve met your goals and are successful? During my Diploma we were told to set goals for ourselves, and to set a time we would like to reach them. I can say that the ones I set I did meet within the time frame, which motivated me to set more goals. I feel like there are still many more to meet, and I am continuously working towards meeting them as it keeps my passion for what I do flowing. Setting goals is exciting and I think it's important to have goals, even if you reach them, set more.

What advice would you give someone who is young and wants to have a position such as yours one day? I'm young and I love getting advice from other creatives, constructive criticism is crucial. Collaborate with other creatives Collaboration is the key, you never realise how much you learn from other people, because collaboration involves doing projects for the love of what you do. Looking at Fashion magazines such as I-D, Dazed and Confused, AnOther magazine, and so many more is how I stay inspired. There are so many amazing fashion photographers out there that I am inspired by, so I buy numerous amounts of magazines every week to keep the visual inspiration at it's peak which helps bud new ideas. As I like to style a lot of my photoshoots, looking at fashion magazines such as these help create new knowledge of what is going on in the fashion industry at the present time. Going to art exhibitions is another way I keep inspired, as you never know what might trigger an idea! How can people reach you for a job? And how would they know your rate? I think that looking different from the rest is very important in modelling, but in my opinion and from experience in the industry, they are looking for models with character, not o n l y w i t h b e a u t y. Tell us about yourself: Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in modelling as a career? Well, I have danced for my entire life, I was even training at one of the Top Dance Conservatories in New York. But had to come back, due to my left ankle betraying me. Two surgeries later, 4 bone spurs removed, an ostragonum that broke off and shattered, cleaned out the joint that was over flowing with scar tissue, and then found cartilage missingcausing the doctors to have to do a micro fracturing. That changed my recovery time from 7 weeks to over a year. About 7 months into the recovery, I was getting so frustrated with people telling me what I can't do, which could have led to two things... 1) knowing me, I would try to prove them wrong and end up injuring myself more, or 2) change that mindset by asking myself "well then, what CAN I do?" I had often been told that I should model, but I just brushed it off as someone trying to be sweet. But my need to be a part of art was bursting, so I decided why not? I'll go to a shoot, if I suck, then I suck... Well, after that shoot the photographer said "In three days you are going to come with me to a fashion show." There he started introducing me to the people in the "Portland world of fashion". And we continued to do spontaneous shoots, and I loved every minute of it. I walked in my first show about a month into it, and have been perfecting my walk ever since. (On a side not, I literally study modeling. I have a notebook which I bring with me to every shoot and show, and write down all of my corrections/anything notable that I was told. I even put a piece of electrical tape across our garage, and filmed myself walking. I study Shows from the world's top fashion weeks... etc.).   I was given a scholarship to attend the IMTA LA Finals. The first day, during our casting for the "Big Fashion Show", Sandy Bass from Bass international had them stop the music, when I wasn't even half way down the runway. In my mind I was just thinking, to keep going- do your thing. Then she gets on the microphone and in front of over a thousand models told everyone that they should be watching me. She critiqued every bit of my walk, then ended by saying "THIS is how you walk. THIS is High Fashion." I was beyond honored and extremely shocked, that I even looked behind me as I was exiting the stage because I did not believe she was talking about me. hahah! At this event there were a lot of agencies scouting. I caught the eyes of many NY agencies, a London agency, one in Canada, an international placement agency, and others. ... I haven't saught representation at all. I've been doing this on my own... But something that I was told is that they wanted me to be signed first. The only suitable option for me was the only agency in Oregon that I am interested in.   Right now I'm trying to make my book SOLID, so that when I go in, I don't want to just be considered to be another name on their wall, but to show them that I am diverse, and am ready to be sent to work in NY and internationally. *I have not given up on dance, But I have found that similarities between the two, and use my dance training in my modeling. I can twist and move my body in ways that make for awesome shots, and I like to be creative with my surroundings. Some see a wall and just stand in front of it... I look at that wall, and search for ways I can use it and make it something.

How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken?

I do believe that modeling education is very important. As I had said, I literally study modeling. I have a notebook I bring with me to every shoot and show, and write down all of my corrections/anything notable that I was told. I even put a piece of electrical tape across our garage, and filmed myself walking. I study Shows from the world's top fashion weeks... etc. I also took many wonderful workshops at IMTA, that were very informative. I believe in making things your own. I personally thrive from constructive criticism, and encourage it. How else is one supposed to learn. And to be given constructive criticism is not a bad thing, it is a wonderful thing. It means that whomever you are working with believes in you and knows that their time and advice will not be wasted on you.

What do you think makes someone “fit” to be a model?

Having a strong sense of self.

What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field?   My goals are to be an international print and runway model. I hate to say this, but I do feel very limited by my surroundings. I just don't know how to get from point A to point B.

What do you know about the advertisement industry, advertising psychology and photography?

I have grown up being taught about sales and marketing. I have had training in both. Photography is also a hobby of mine. I also love working with photographers and really try to learn and understand all that they know. And I must say, I have learned a lot.

How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements?

All of the above. I am a very understanding, open minded, creative, and respectful individual. I have the mind of an artist.

Do you eat nutritiously? How often do you exercise or go to the gym?

Absolutely. This is the only body I have. It is my instrument, how I express myself best. I take my health very seriously. I dance, and have the equipment at home to do my exercises and stretching daily.

What is your dream role as a model?

There is no limit.

Do you have any limitations? How do you define your boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request?

I believe in staying true to one's self. I know how to hold my own, and am strong in my morals. I find the human body to be one of the most beautiful things. That does not mean I will just take my clothes off at anyone's request. That is disgusting. I believe that whatever it may be, it must be professional and tastefully done. It must make sense as a necessity.

I will absolutely travel, and am open to most hours.

Modeling has always been something that has peaked my interest growing up. I would love to watch fashion shows online at only 7 and 8 years old. I would always dream about that being me. It was summer of '15 and I had a friend who was a model. I was talking to her about how badly I wanted to get into it and of course, she helped me. She brought me to my first photoshoot and still to this day, I can still remember the exact feeling I felt as I stepped on-set for the very first time in my life to be in front of the camera. It felt like home. I have spent my childhood finding something I enjoyed and was good at and it was like I finally found it. After the first shoot, I was so eager to continue my work and grow as a model. I would spend hours online reading books, watching videos, reading blogs, anything I could get my hands on to educate myself more. I have been modeling for a year now, I enjoy every photoshoot and always show my upmost professionalism. I have done one runway and I am about to go to LA to star in my second fashion show. (Keep in mind I have done all of this on my own, no agency help, no help but myself) It's been a wonderful journey and I've enjoyed every second of it. Growing up I have had a horrid childhood. I had to teach myself to overcome the obstacles I was put in, but I did it all by myself, and found my escape, my job, and my passion which is modeling. Through my images, I shoot emotion. I want to show men and women that confidence is beautiful and self-love a necessity, I work to inspire. I work to give the youth some sense of hope in happiness if lost. I'm here to make a difference.

Modeling is a VERY serious job. Many people get it twisted and think all we do is just pose in front of camera and walk down a stage and pose and thats it. No. Modeling is a job you are constantly working at. As far as educating yourself, I did not attend any courses, I knew that I could do it myself. I researched for hours on end almost every night, and still do from time to time. I have this drive to just keep learning and growing, it's like I can't stop.

What do you think makes someone â&#x20AC;&#x153;fitâ&#x20AC;? to be a model? Of course, modeling has their standard requirements, physical wise, but in my opinion, you have to be pretty on the inside to be pretty on the outside. Your attitude reflects everything. How you work, How the people around you act, How you act, It affects everything. Nobody is going to enjoy working with a model who's hard to even converse with. Be kind, be happy, and be confident. Hang loose and have fun. Stop taking everything so seriously. What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field? My goals as a model is to of course make it to the top (become a supermodel) but more than that, I want to inspire like I said in the first box above. I want to teach confidence and originality. I see myself progressing by finding something to do different to try and improve myself after every shoot and of course, practice practice practice. What do you know about the advertisement i n d u s t r y, a d v e r t i s i n g p s y c h o l o g y a n d photography? I've been studying on the industry. As a model, it's really important that you advertise and market yourself well. It's all about your image. My advice to aspiring models would be to look up information on self marketing and advertisement. Learn a little bit about photography as well. You never know when it could help you. How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clientsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; requirements? I obviously communicate in person, but most of my online networking for modeling is done on Facebook. I am involved in many modeling groups on there and it's a great place to just talk with other business professionals. I am very nice and outgoing. I like the person I'm working with to be 100% comfortable and have an experience they would like to have again. In the beginning of your modeling career, You don't have a choice as to how open your requirement are. It's best to try new things and go out of your comfort zone so that you can really understand what you enjoy and where your talent sits best at. I use to be really open to things but ever since things got more serious for me, I found where I fit in best at in the industry and thats high fashion print modeling. I mainly stick to just doing that now, but under circumstance, I will do a different project depending on the benefits.

Do you eat nutritiously? How often do you exercise or go to the gym?

My dream role would have to be to make a difference in this world and be a positive role models to those who look up to me.

Do you have any limitations? How do you define your boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request?

When I am approached by somebody new wanting to work with me, I usually have them explain the concept or what they had in mind to shoot and I give my feedback. Just be honest. Speak your mind. If you feel like you have a better concept in mind, try and mention it and see where it takes you. Honesty is the best policy. State your availability: Would you travel? Work full-time, part-time? Any hours?

I do currently have a 9-5 day job but 95% of my time off from that is devoted to modeling. I would easily quit my day job to pursue modeling full time which I eventually will get that opportunity. I would love to travel. (I am traveling to LA for my first traveling project in August. Tell us what's your memorable experience so far. My most memorable experience so far has been my first fashion show. I had the time of my life. Preparing for it, the photoshoot for it, meeting the designer, working and talking with new people, it was just an amazing experience.

How did you get to where you are now in your career?

Through consistent action, dedication and making connections with people. I am a 22 year old female homosexual photographer doing my final year in a diploma in photography (this was after dropping out of law school in my first year). I am passionate about a lot of things and photography is one of them. I enjoy inspiring people by doing things they think are impossible to achieve at an early age. I am a very modest person and enjoy letting my work speak for me. How did your education prepare you for the future? A certificate or degree from an accredited institution says that you've successfully completed an academic program. It shows that you have formal training, practical experience and critical assessments. This can open doors to a broader range of job opportunities where a qualification is a minimum requirement. What person has been your inspiration in life? Who is your hero? My mom, her strength and humanity have been my biggest inspiration in life. Do you feel like youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve met your goals and are successful? I have met some of my goals but the hunger to grow and learn more as a photographer in me has not subsided. As much progress as I have made in my journey as a photographer, I look ahead and know that I have way more to go.

If you had to do it over again, what would you change? I would change not saving money to buy more equipment from when I started with photography. What advice would you give someone who is young and wants to have a position such as yours one day? Try everything. Photojournalism, fashion, portraiture, nudes, whatever. You won't know what kind of photographer you are until you try it. Be open to critics, it can really be helpful but stick to your core values. Step out of your comfort zones, everyone has one of those. How do you stay inspired? Great natural light that I see everyday, beautiful people or beautiful locations, also great photography by others keeps me inspired. Even looking back at my own work and previous accomplishments. What photography related tips would you give our readers? Always have a camera with you, even if it's a cheap point and shoot. Study and theory is useful but you learn most by doing. Take photographs, lots of them, be depressed by them, take more, work on your craft and go out in the world and interact. Attending photography school will give you the opportunity to learn a wide range of skills in an organized step-by-step approach. Tell us about yourself: Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in modelling as a career? My name is Eric Human and I'm born in Sweden with a South African dad and a Swedish mom. I'm currently based in Melbourne completing a bachelor of business at RMIT. I've always wanted it since I was a kid. My parents always said "this kid is going to be a model" due to always wanting to be in front of the camera. So I guess that the interest of being captured in front of the camera led to being a model. How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken? I think that any education is important. Knowledge is the new currency. What do you think makes someone â&#x20AC;&#x153;fitâ&#x20AC;? to be a model? Easy, self confidence. What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field? I see myself growing in all aspects that come with modelling. I'm a little bit weak for the ocean, so I wouldn't mind doing lots of works for surf companies. What do you know about the advertisement industry, advertising psychology and photography? I know that all marketing is good marketing! How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clientsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; requirements? I'm very friendly. I come from a country town Port Macquarie and have the aspiration of travelling to schools to inspire young Australians to achieving their dreams. Eating healthy and going to the gym is all a part of the fun of modelling but I always find time to treat myself. I work out 4-5 times a week which depends on my schedule week to week. Eating well isn't as hard as everyone makes it out to be, once you're in a routine and find a way to enjoy cooking. What is your dream role as a model? My dream role is to travel the world, representing the world's best brands. Do you have any limitations? How do you define your boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request? Can you tell us what makes you a good fit for this particular makeup artist position with the competition being so tough? I believe I stand out from other competitors because, no matter what type of work, shoots, weddings, glamour or stage work you can see how much passion I have for makeup. I am constantly looking for new products, new applications, tips and tricks and I am always happy to share, because I truly believe there is no right or wrong way of creating looks. It's always about finding a style and a way to make it work for each individual. person. Why did you choose this profession? When my clients come to me and have that amazing reaction to seeing the desired look in the mirror that I have given them, that is priceless to me. Body & inner confidence is so important. It helps all of us grow and be a better person. I wanted a job that was creative, fun & something that would make anyone feel better after a bad day. Putting a smile on someone's face is a lovely gift to have. What are the biggest challenges makeup artists have to face? I would say competition between other artists, there are many who are lovely, caring & share the same passion as you, but then there are some who will try to bring you down. But there truly is no need for it, there are so many clients out there who want our help and service. The same applies to photo shoots, there are so many photographers, shoots, shows; it's better to work with extra hands rather than cutting them off in spite. If a customer asks for a style that you are sure would not suit them, how do you convince the customer to go otherwise? I would simply explain and suggest what style I think would best suit them, and their skin type, shape and tone.

How do you prepare dry and oily skin for foundation makeup application? I always give my clients a skin consultation before any events that they may have coming up and recommend a few tips & products to help with skin preparation before the appointment. There are many different ways to prepare both skin types, but after struggling with acne & exzema my self I have seen many dermatologists and tried many products & medications. What I have found best for all skin types is that the products and tools needed are: • Facial sponge • Muslim cloth • Cleansing facial butter (Top range: Elemis pro-collegen cleaning butter. Lower range: Body shop Camomile cleansing butter) • Cleaning water/toner or water The steps I take are as follows: 1 Use lukewarm water to wet the face and with the palm of your hands, use a cleansing butter of your choice and rub over face (eyes included). You should be gentle, and this is great for taking off waterproof mascara and removing makeup/dirt as well 2 Then use the Muslim cloth to remove it. 3 Repeat step one for a second time to, now clean the skin after all dirt is removed. (For the same reason we shampoo hair twice before conditioning it) 4 Rinse with water and use facial sponges to wipe clean with your choice of cleansing water, toner or just normal water. 5 Pat dry and place a good Serum on. Leave to soak in, then you're ready for your foundation primer and makeover. This process helps minimise products used on skin, time and money. My clients love it.

Do you have any experience in cosmetic retails? Yes I am a fully qualified hair and Beauty therapist which is how I know so much about skin. And yes I have over 8 years of experience with cosmetics retail from salons, spas and department stores such as Body Shop. Tell us about your experience as a makeup artist? Being a makeup artist truly helps me be my self, enjoy life and enjoy my job. A few years ago, I took some time out from the beauty industry to travel and get away from many things that were building up at home. When I came back I had a mental break down and many anxiety panic attacks. This made me realise how much I was always stressing about what I was doing with my life. So I looked for a new job and found a makeup artist position working at the Body Shop. This made me realise how much I missed makeup, customer care & contact and helping people feel good about themselves from the moment they wake up to the end of the day. Two years later I found myself doing three different jobs whilst doing makeovers over the weekend and I was so busy, I then decided to hand in my notice at all jobs and become a freelancer. It's the best decision I have made to date. I am currently building a brand new makeup studio and beauty therapy room from home where I work for myself and clients can come to me for all their Glamour & Beauty needs.

How often do you clean your makeup tools such as brushes and combs? How does it affect the wear and tear of your tools and how do you feel about the associated expense? I sanatize my brushes with a spray in between clients and deep clean then once a week. If you find the right cleaning product and look after your tools they can last amazingly. Yes it's an expensive job but it's as expensive as you make it depending on your products and your style. How do you determine a client’s undertone before you decide what makeup technique to use? I always ask what their skin routine is and what products they are currently using. Get to know their coverage type and safety blanket as I like to call it. That will help me decide which brand or technique style to use. I have many different foundation options - manually or with airbrush, cream, liquid or powder. Do you have any tips for aspiring makeup artists? Believe in your self and your work. Take the good feedback and the bad feedback. Learn that everyone has different style and everyone has a different finished image in their minds.
