You are truly one of the biggest and hottest Internet sensations and personalities at the moment, tell us about your journey in how you began your career? Ever since I was a child, my sister and I would make funny homemade videos and recreate music videos on our moms camera. However, when I went to college, I was studying pre-med and was set on becoming a doctor. I was at the gym one day and I met some people who we’re making videos on the internet. We hung out and I started making videos with them - that’s how it all began! Where did you grow up? I grew up in Ashland, Oregon! It’s a small town near the border of California. What is one thing you miss the most about your hometown? Ashland is the best place in the world. I miss the scenery, the fresh air and how green everything is. I was always a 15 minute drive away from the mountains, to go snowboarding, or the lake, to go boating. I miss it a lot! What do you love most about being a Creator? I love the whole process of creating content. It all starts with a simple day dream and then I grow it into a post that lasts on the internet forever!
What's the biggest misconception about being a Creator? That it's easy. Myself and other creators who are constantly creating are all incredibly driven and hardworking individuals. Most people don’t know this, but I write, act, direct and edit all of my videos. There’s a lot of pressure that I put on myself to create content daily and I rarely take days off! Describe a typical day off for youhow do you like to spend your free time? I like to catch up on my sleep, spend time with my dogs and go to the spa to relax. What is your #1 go-to beauty secret? Spray tans. They hide a lot of imperfections. What’s the best advice you have ever received? Pain and change are promised, but do what makes you happy.
What inspires your videos? Most of my videos are based off real life events!
Do you have any upcoming projects that you can tell us about? I’m working on a few projects right now, most of them are still in the early stages! At the moment, I’m working on expanding my STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) content. I’m also working on expanding my clothing line.
How would you describe yourself in an emoji? A clown because I can’t go a day without being goofy.
What is one thing your fans don’t know about you? I drink a ridiculous amount of green tea every day.
How do you interact and engage with your audience? It means so much to me that I can make people smile and laugh every day. I read every single comment and try to respond to as many as I can. Also, I ask my audience on what they want to see! On IGTV, I have a series called Science of Beauty and I ask everyone for their beauty questions and I try to make a fun and entertaining video that answers their questions!
What do you love most about Modeliste Magazine? I love fashion and Modeliste Magazine does an amazing job at showing the versatility of fashion.
What's a TV show you would like to make a cameo in? The Haunting of Hill House
What is something on your bucket list that you would love to accomplish in the next 5 years? I want to continue to expand my clothing line! I can’t wait to see what it’s like in the next year to five years. How do you describe your personal style? Sporty Chic. What's your current obsession? My new German Shepherd puppy, Patty! And I’ve also been binge watching standup comedy.
Why are you excited to be our next Cover Star? I’m excited for everyone to see the photos we took in Death Valley. The trip there was so funny and I came out of it with amazing stories that I can’t wait to tell my kids one day. CARE FOR YOUR SKIN WHILE YOU SLEEP Here is how to wake up with beautiful skin! 48 APRIL 2019 | MODELISTE
CLEANSE NIGHTLY Even if you feel like washing your face is such a tremendous task after a long day - do not skip washing your face! Your exquisite epidermis picks up dirt, pollutants and oils from your fingers throughout the day. Dr. Schweitzer tells us that “Getting your skin to turnover is harder when you have a buildup of grime, makeup and other pollutants on your skin.” Washing your face in the evening will really make a difference on what you see in the mirror the next day. “Opt for a non-soap cleanser which will not strip your skin of its’ natural oils” he says. Gentle is the best night time approach for your skin!
DON’T SKIMP ON YOUR MOISTURIZER We do much skin prep in the morning but tend to do very little before we hit the pillow. Evening skin prep is a must in order to wake up with beautiful skin the next day. Dr. Schweitzer emphasizes that “while you are sleeping your skin is hard at work repairing itself and this is the best time to apply nourishing ingredients that will revitalize your skin.” Here are some good-for-your-skin habits to include in your evening routine.
GET YOUR BEAUTY SLEEP Restful sleep will help your skin maintain a youthful appearance for years to come. Try sleeping on your back and use a pillowcase made with satin or silk as it will help reduce the formation of sleep lines and crinkles. Reducing stress can tremendously help you get your beauty rest at night. Taking time to relax and engage in enjoyable activities will help keep your mind stay stress free. “Stress can dramatically affect the health of your skin. Wrinkling of the skin, acne and dry skin are associated with stress due to the release of cortisol in the body” Dr. Schweitzer explains. While you are sleeping your skin’s blood flow increases, rebuilds collagen and repairs damage caused by the sun and environment.
From dry to oily skin, a moisturizer is always a must! Visit your dermatologist or skin care provider and ask for a skincare plan that will best benefit your skin type for every season. This will give you a customized plan that will effectively help you keep your skin healthy over time. Night time moisturizers focus on moisture and repair “these products are designed to penetrate the skin over the course of several hours, they contain higher concentrations of anti-aging products and may contain retinols.” Dr. Schweitzer explains. Talk to your dermatologist before venturing into the world of retinols/retinoids as these are very powerful and you may not be a good candidate.
INCLUDE YOUR NECK, CHEST AND HANDS Chances are you are treating your face and skipping your neck, chest and hands. What inspired the creation of the brand? After constantly looking for the perfect balance of beach chic & luxury that could be worn anywhere, Saltwater Luxe was established. The company has brought together two of the industry’s top designers to create and provide luxury wear that will fill the void in today’s market. With more than 15 years of industry experience, designers Christa Bischofberger and Kristy Kalsman gained expertise in creating clothing that’s affordable, while maintaining quality. Tell us about your latest collection? Our Spring 2019 collection embraces fabrics and prints that take us back to nature with an emphasis on florals. We tend to focus on femininity every season, but especially with this latest collection. We chose floral prints with a soft-vintage look and paired them with bodies that were flattering on everybody. Favorites from your Spring/Summer collection? Christa’s favorite is the Monroe jumper. So comfortable, versatile and easy to wear. I can wear it to brunch with my girlfriends or throw on a denim jacket and wear it to work. Kristy’s favorite is the Hayden Robe. This robe truly goes with anything and everything. I can dress it up or down depending on the occasion. Must-haves for the season? The Crossfire Bomber is a must-have. This jacket is truly for anyone. It is the easiest throw-on-and-go piece. For Fall 2019 we will launch a “true” Sweater and outerwear collection showcasing novel yet versatile pieces. At 11 years old, Kali alongside her mother Shannon Lukei created a girls’ beauty/ hygiene survival kit featuring a solar and battery powered phone charging station + 19 other “essential” items. “I wanted teach Kali that anyone can become an entrepreneur at any age, and that every venture should include a giving back component”, Shannon told Modeliste. “For every kit we sell, we provide a school kit to an underprivileged child. So far we have brought 50 school kits to children in South Africa and another 70 are in route to Nepal.” Modeliste had the privilege of sitting down with this inspiring “empowerment through entrepreneurship” duo and this is what we learned. Describe the overall concept of Kali’s Kits. Kali & I wanted to provide girls/women of all ages with a cute and convenient compact “kit” that contained all those items women find themselves needing in a pinch. When we combined the accessibility of these essential items with the necessity (these days) of backup smartphone battery power, we knew we had a product that would be both appealing and useful for pre-teens, teenagers, and women of all ages. What inspired the creation of the line? Originally, Kali’s Kits was created to provide teenage girl’s with on-the-go beauty and hygiene essentials. When Kali was starting middle school, we asked ourselves: what products do girls need in a pinch? We googled “girls survival kits” and found there were very few available and none that met our requirements.
How did Kali’s Kits evolve into what it is today? Tell us about your journey. Kali and I started at the drugstore and compiled sample items from the list of essential items we put together. We held informal focus groups with friends and family to get their input on what should and shouldn’t be included. We then sourced our items. Once we had our item dimensions, Kali and I constructed a very rudimentary cardboard prototype of the actual kit, hoping to create a compact case to house the essential items. We came up with a box containing a removable tray, which would display the more fun beauty items while concealing the more personal items. Once our prototype was complete, we shared the design with a friend at a local battery company. This friend suggested adding a solar and battery powered phone charger to the box – something
every teen would always love to have onhand. He took the cardboard prototype to his engineers, and they created a 3D print of the custom box. From there we created the mold, started manufacturing the kit, ordered our first set of 1000 items, and we were on our way.

What makes Kali’s Kits so unique? Although other consumer products are beginning to offer solar powered energy options, we believe Kali’s Kits is the first product to combine solar/battery powered technology with a durable beauty/hygiene package containing 20 essential beauty and hygiene products. And for all it offers, the kit remains compact; about the size of a school pencil box. Below is a photo of the solar panel included on the bottom of the kit, which will fully charge the kit charger after 2-3 hours of exposure to direct sunlight. The solar panel also provides enough battery power to make a phone call from a dead cell phone within 5-10 minutes of exposure to direct sunlight.
Of course, the internal charger can be powered traditionally as well, using the kit’s charging cord and a power outlet. How did you become a blogger/ social media Influencer? I became an Influencer kind of by nature. I never forced anything I was just working at a boutique in cologne and showed the new pieces from the shop on Instagram, that is how it all started. What inspires you to make your posts everyday? My Community. But if I do not feel well, I do not post anything. For me I still see Instagram as a hobby not a real job. When I am traveling sometimes I post 3 different pictures on one day to show my community what I am up to and sometimes I do not post anything 2 days in a row. It always depends on what I experience. :) How would you describe your feed in 3 words? Not perfect, positive and colorful. Describe your favorite “fan� experience. When I actually meet people who are following be from the very beginning and still tell me that they get inspired by me. How do you interact and engage with your audience? I try to answer as many direct messages as possible, like their photos or just meet them on the street and take some time to actually get to know their faces behind their account. Tell us about your time in Kenya. What did you love most about the Getaway? Everything! I loved the whole experience. Especially it was the first time for me to experience Africa with my husband. It was wonderful to see how beautiful nature is and to see these wild animals in their natural habitat. Describe the Finch Hattons Safari lodge where you stayed. What was your favorite part and what made it such a unique and memorable experience? Definitely the interior design! I got really inspired by the interior and the view from our lodge. It was the perfect place to calm down, read a book and get some fresh energy. What is something you have taken away from your travels in Africa? That you should take some time to appreciate the beauty of nature and also to think about others. For my husband it was the first time that he visited an african village. We know how lucky we are, that we have a home, the opportunity to travel and everything but it is so important to also help others. So we definitely want to keep that always in mind and really want to help others, as the people over there are so positive and welcoming.

How did you become a blogger/ social media Influencer? This is such an interesting question! I studied marketing and pr and journalism at UNI and opening a blog was actually part of a term project. My blog, initially, was only about interior design. I love writing and found that doing this was really satisfying for me, so I kept dedicating more and more time to it. What inspires you to make your posts everyday? It is more the small things that I find in my day to day life. There is nothing specifically that i normally look for but I find that my best content is always created when I travel. How would you describe your feed in 3 words? Casual, simple, adventurous Describe your favorite “fan� experience. Once, I bumped into a fan on the train while taking brooks to school. I was ill and looking absolutely terrible and she approached me and asked me if it was me and mentioned that she would probably not recognize me if it was not because of my son. Terrific!! How do you interact and engage with your audience? This is something I am working more at this year. I have started dedicating one day a week to answer questions and emails from my audience. I have realized how important this is and i love to be useful or helpful to them anyway. Tell us about your time in Kenya. What did you love most about the Getaway? This was truly the best trip of my life. I know i have said this a million times on instagram, but it is the truth. I just fell in love with how real everything is there, it feels that time has never passed and I have never felt nature in such an intense way. It was very emotional to me! Describe the Safari lodge where you stayed. What was your favorite part and what made it such a unique and memorable experience? I think I felt like if I was in a movie while at cottars camp. It is the most authentic, real and beautiful safari camp in the world. I especially loved the nights around the fire with the masai warriors singing and dancing around the flames. It was just magical.

How did you become a blogger/ social media Influencer? Since the very first beginning of Instagram, I started to post random pictures of me not knowing that people will get attracted to my style and start following me. I was a simple girl who loves fashion and loves playing dress up with my sisters. Thus, I became one of the first people in my region to shoot my looks on the streets and tag the brands. My platform was booming, and companies started reaching out to me asking for collaborations and/or attending big events. This is when both of my sisters who are influencers as well and I started to get the attention of the media. One day, we received a phone call that changed our life, a phone call that turned us from instagrammers to reality show stars. On 2015, we had our own reality TV show on one of the biggest tv channels in the region, and we became known as “The Sisters”. Our show was the first of its kind in the Arab world thus it became the talk of the town and we were the most discussed Arab celebrities in the International media. On 2016, we won “Best Influencers” by the Murex D ‘Or - a regional award ceremony aimed to recognize achievements. Three years after the show, I launched my own blog and released my first product to the market and opened my youtube channel. Today, I have a large audience who is influenced by my style, my lifestyle, my relationship with my husband, my work and more.. I never thought that a simple account on Instagram would turn my life upside down. What inspires you to make your posts everyday? After being in this industry for 7 years, I feel I have a huge responsibility to keep my audience inspired by new trends, lifestyle, fashion, beauty, makeup and travel and also to share positivity around me. Tell us about your time in Kenya. What did you love most about the Getaway? Kenya is been so far among my favorite trip. It was my first safari experience EVER ; I learned so much about animals, nature and the Maasai tribe culture. I also fell in love with the people, the beauty of this place, the food plus I enjoyed a great time with my fellow influencers.
What is your travel skincare regimen? Drink a lot of water and moisturize. Use sunscreen always.
Describe the Cottars 1920’s Safari Camp where you stayed. What was your favorite part and what made it such a unique and memorable experience? The Safari camp was beyond my expectations. We had a wonderful time there, and felt like we are at home. From the owner, to the staff to the guides, everyone was so welcoming and so excited to show us the wild safari life. Our villa was super cozy and we had breathtaking views from every single room. My favorite part was the bush bath where I enjoyed a hot bath outside the tent while being surrounded by nature and culture. What did you enjoy most about Hemingways Nairobi? Everything. The hotel was simply gorgeous and our room was well designed and spacious. The service is friendly and detail oriented. A perfect place to end a safari. What is something you have taken away from your travels in Africa? The memories of the beautiful creatures we saw and the breathtaking wildlife experience that we enjoyed, the smiles and laughs of the Maasai people that we met. Kenya simply stole my heart. What is something on your bucket list that you would love to accomplish in the next 5 years? Travel as much as I can, meet new cultures. explore new adventures, grow my brand, learn a new language.

What are some of your current favorite fashion trends? The neon trend, the bike shorts, the big statement earrings, the snake prints, the puffer coats, the bold colorful tailoring and the sequins! What is your current style of sunglasses that you have been wearing? The oversized round and aviator sunglasses. Do you have any upcoming projects that you can tell us about? After the huge local success of Wondertan (a tanning kit that I launched 1 year ago), I am expanding to my next line which is Wonderskin starting with my body lotion that comes in 3 uniquely scented fragrances: Honey, Musk and Oud. I am also expanding regionally to have my products distributed in UAE, Qatar, KSA, Kuwait, Jordan. What do you love most about our Mode Around the Globe Getaways? How did you become a blogger/ social media Influencer? I started writing fashion reviews for a magazine 7 years ago. They started their blogging platform and I became one of the first ones to have a blog. I saw it as a hobby but after a few years it became a full time job. What inspires you to make your posts everyday? I get a lot of inspiration from different places. Everything from music, old magazines, movies, food, and traveling. I love to discover and explore new places and cultures. How would you describe your feed in 3 words? 2 words. Organized chaos. Describe your favorite “fan” experience. I’m a people’s person. I love meeting people especially when they like what you do. One day I ended up hanging out at a restaurant in Paris with a lady and her husband for hours! Do you interact and engage with your audience? I try to focus more on IG stories. I think that stories are more personal than pictures. I talk a lot so I feel people get to know me better. The real me. Tell us about your time in Kenya. What did you love most about the Getaway? I think the connection with nature and the Maasai community. It’s very interesting how different cultures are. Beautiful bedrooms, amazing food and the view we had was just beyond words can describe. Definitely one of the best experiences I’ve had in a very long time. What did you enjoy most about Hemingways Nairobi? The rooms were super nice. I really love a big bathroom with a nice tub, so it was perfect to relax after the trip from Masai Mara to Nairobi. What is something you have taken away from your travels in Africa? The whole experience, the lessons, the smiles and a couple of beautiful beaded necklaces!

What is something on your bucket list that you would love to accomplish in the next 5 years? I’ve been wanting to go to Japan for a long time. I love the food, the culture. If I could choose where to go tomorrow that would be my first option. Describe a typical day off for you- how do you like to spend your free time? I love spending time with my friends. Try new restaurants. I love food. I usually don’t get to spend a lot of time home so sometimes all I need is a cup of coffee or red wine and my couch. What is your favorite late-night treat? Dark chocolate for sure. What is your travel skincare regimen? Tons of eye-cream and face mists with aromatherapy. What Pixi lipstick shades do you tend to gravitate to? Nude shades are my favorite. I also wore my favorite one during the trip. It was the Evening Rose one. What are you most looking forward to with Spring Beauty trends? I live in NYC so for now anything that doesn’t include moon boots and thermal underwear. I love light makeup during the day, and a red lip to go out at night. What are some of your current favorite fashion trends? I’m a little obsessed with animal prints, cowboy boots and sporty looks. What is your current style of sunglasses that you have been wearing? I’ve been wearing a lot of styles from Quay. My favorites at the moment Black HINDSIGHT FLAT TOP SUNGLASSES. What kind of jewelry accessories to you gravitate to when putting together an outfit? I don’t change my jewelry often. I don’t know why! But sometimes when I have something in mind, I try to look for the perfect piece for that specific look. Then I go back to my basics. Diamond earrings, love bracelet and a couple of cute gold rings. Do you have any upcoming projects that you can tell us about? I’m very excited for what’s coming up next. I started modeling since i was 17 so i always loved fashion and being up to date to everything and i always loved taking pictures of myself wearing different styles. I opened an instagram account after i graduated from university and i started posting the pictures on my account. Months later, i got a call from a producer asking me if i wanna shoot with my 2 sisters the first reality show in the middle east. We filmed the first season and it was aired on TV and on youtube. Since then, my work was all on social media, from events attendance to collaborations and photo shoots. What inspires you to make your posts everyday? What inspires is my followers who love my style. Also, social media is my income so i do my best to always post new pictures and travel to new destinations. How would you describe your feed in 3 words? Fun, colorful and stylish Describe your favorite “fan” experience. My favorite fan experience was when we chose a young girl during our reality show to spend a day with me and my sisters and have a great time all together. How do you interact and engage with your audience? I always reply to the comments and I answer most of my direct messages. What was your favorite part and what made it such a unique and memorable experience? The Safari camp was like a home. I felt like i was living with a family in a house for 4 nights. Everyone was so nice and humble. The best part was the cozy living room next to the chimenea where me and the influencers used to gather and talk about different things. Also, best part was the dining table eating all these amazing organic meals together. Not to mention the view I had in my room. Waking up to this view erases all the worries in life.

Tell us about your time in Kenya. What did you love most about the Getaway? I have traveled to so many places and I have to say..Kenya is by far my favorite! The best wildlife viewing area in Africa..It’s like having front row seats to the filming of National Geographic! Wildlife can be seen in many parts of Africa but if you want to experience a life-changing journey, Cottar’s is the answer! Everywhere the eye touched was beauty..I felt like I was in Heaven! I came here for the wildlife but I will definitely come back because of the People! I wish every human being was as humble, as kind, as respectful and as simple as everyone I met here! From the owner to the guides, the butlers, the chefs, the housekeepers... Kenya is really and truly one of the most wonderful destinations in the world! It’s refreshing to live outside the box so to speak...Kenya was on top of my bucket list and Modeliste Magazine made this unforgettable journey come to reality! I will miss everything and everyone here! Gone to come back ! What did you enjoy most about Hemingways Nairobi? I enjoyed in the hemingways the cozy suite with the amazing balcony an view and mostly the outdoor area where I had lunch. I think the burger I had was one of the best i tried. What is something you have taken away from your travels in Africa? Beauty of nature and wild animals, and compassion for the Maasai Mara people. What is something on your bucket list that you would love to accomplish in the next 5 years? I would love within 5 years to have visited all the countries i have never visited yet and also to be married and have a family and have my own business. Describe a typical day off for you- how do you like to spend your free time? I usually spend my free time with the family and especially with my sisters and our brother in law. We go lunches and dinners together or have dinner and watch a movie at home. What is your favorite late-night treat? My favorite late night treat would definitely be a crepes with nutella and banana. It is my addiction but i only allow myself to only have it once a week.
What is your travel skincare regimen? My travel skincare regimen is an oil free sunblock; i always use sunblock during the day before applying makeup. A cleanser for day and night, a daily moisturizer and a face mask that i use twice a week. All my products are oil free. What Pixi lipstick shades do you tend to gravitate to? ‘Au Naturelle ‘ is my favorite lipstick since I’m a fan of light natural matte colors for the lips. What are you most looking forward to with Spring Beauty trends? I’m looking forward to the oversized hats, puffed shoulders, neon and sequins. What are some of your current favorite fashion trends? My current favorite trends are the cycling shorts, see through plastic coats , mixed prints and zebra print. What is your current style of sunglasses that you have been wearing? I always like to wear big sunglasses. I am actually obsessed with glasses. I have over 100 pair of glasses. Do you have any upcoming projects that you can tell us about? My sisters and I had a great project in mind that we will finally execute within this year hopefully! It is related to fashion but cannot give more details.
