F ROM TH E E DITOR
W
e hear the words “building blocks” throughout our lives. One of the first things we learn as a toddler is how to stack blocks. We learn that it takes time and effort, and also a bit of frustration, to get it right. We learned to build on solid surfaces so that our structure had a chance of survival. Every now and then, we would have to knock down the whole pile and start from scratch, because it just didn’t have a sound foundation. Other times, we simply realized it wasn’t going to stand, so we’d give up and walk away. We learned that the first and most important rule was to build on a solid, steady base. In that playtime we gleaned some of the most valuable lessons we’ll ever learn; lessons we’ll use again and again throughout our lives. Relationships, careers, homes, even our own character are all built upon the
principle of building blocks. During the task of rebuilding my business years ago after an auto accident, I changed focus quite a few times. Thankfully, I was open to change and as the whole of my life foundation had already shifted, I eventually found solid ground. Since then, I’ve walked away from a few areas and built other areas up. I’m still building. And what I realized through all of it is that falling blocks weren’t nearly as important as the ones left standing. One block falls now, and I simply move forward. I’ve learned that while building blocks in our relationships is the same principle, it is much harder work. Most importantly, much like building blocks on a solid, steady base, I learned that not all relationships are meant to stand. And that’s okay. Some may only be meant to last a short time for a
purpose. I had to be sure to distinguish the strong relationships from other ones built on uneven ground. My career, before the accident was a structure I built and watched fall many times. I’d tried to build the same structure over and over with no solid growth. After the accident, I quit trying to build the parts that were never stable. I started building on the solid parts that were sure and strong… and it grew, taller and taller. It’s the same with relationships. I build on what is solid and growing. Be clear, I’m not giving anyone advice to leave a spouse or child, however, I’m saying to reevaluate friendships that are destructive, draining, or abusive. Sometimes those relationships may fall. It is far less frustrating to let some of them fade away than continuing to build and having to watch it fall over and over and over. Assess the relationships that have good foundations; find what is strong, and build upon that. You cannot change people or the choices they make. You will never change someone else. You will never make their decisions for them. You can make decisions for yourself. You can decide to build on the strong, fortifying relationships. Through every crash or demolition in life, we can use those experiences to build ourselves into better people who make better choices. Building our own integrity is the key to a healthy, solid life. May we take the steps this season to recognize all of the strong areas of our lives and let the blocks fall where they may. Sincerely,
MODERN GRACE

ypically, runway fashions don’t make it into everyone’s daily wear, mainly due to cost. However, runway fashions do influence style from season to season and give us all a base on which to build our wardrobes and stay in style. The same goes for editorial and runway makeup trends. While “runway” makeup is often ostentatious, sometimes make-up artists strike a chord with people, and those styles can be tweaked from runway to everyday. Taking the visually bold and crossing it over into
your regular routine can take any look to the next level. I think as makeup and fashion progress in newer and bolder ways, we should too. This fall season, be daring! If you stop to think, “Can I pull that off?” I’m here to say: YES SIS. You can.
Let that inner MUA out. We are seeing more and more graphic art being incorporated into makeup trends; don’t be afraid to use colors and lines to your advantage! Just a simple pop of color or pattern can bring out that high-fashion feel.

hen Modern Grace Magazine asked me to collaborate on a segment called “Nicole’s Closet,” I was thrilled. I have been a collector of vintage and new high fashion for many years. My closet is full of pieces that are timeless-they can be integrated with everchanging trends. High fashion has always fascinated me. From design to the thought process behind it, fashion is my favorite form of self-expression. You can tell a lot about someone based on their fashion sense. Bargain shopping is one of my favorite hobbies. Whether I am researching the latest trends and newest pieces from designers... or just trying to incorporate couture pieces into my closet from a previous season, searching for deals is always a fun-filled scavenger hunt. There are so many avenues out there to find authentic fashion pieces at a fraction of the price. Some are even brand new, with tags and more than half off the retail price! One of my passions is styling other women. I love discovering what they prefer and then creating looks that match their unique personalities. For our first adventure in Nicole’s Closet, Larry, from Modern Grace, and I styled Dawn Clark from Industry Salon. Since I hadn’t met her before, I gave her a quick call to chat about her preferences. I instantly knew that the experience would be a blast! After pulling a few looks from my closet, we took on the task of shopping. Not only were we able to find two handbags and a perfect pair of shoes, we also found these items at a bargain. I hope you enjoy our project as much as we enjoyed putting it together. Cheers! Brands were Tory Burch (shirt, jewelry), Levi’s, Michael Kors (shoes) forget price, but retail is over $100, and Splendid was the other brand. (Retail for top was $89 - paid $12 on Amazon, Purse (backpack) was Botkier (Retail $150ish- we paid $59)and the black purse was Juicy Couture. (retail $50 - we paid $18

fall goals T.J Bruner
F
all is a time for long sleeves, hot drinks that smell great and pumpkin everything (and I mean everything). It’s also a time for change. As we transition from long and toasty summer days into another colorful fall, I’d like to share a few thoughts to both keep us all on track toward our priorities while also taking the time to stop and smell the pumpkin spice. First, spend a little time thinking of the goals that you would like to continue making progress toward over the next couple of months. After doing this, consider what small tasks can be done to move closer to these goals each and every day. The main idea here is to be able to look back at a long string of successful days that build momentum toward your goals. A great example could be if you would like to have less stress in your day-to-day life. Considering that gratitude is basically penicillin for the soul, our strategy to approach our goal of reducing stress could be to practice gratitude each day via journaling or simply reflection. Set aside a few moments each day to
reflect upon something that means a lot to you. Try not to get stuck on the same things every day. Really put some thought into this so that you can begin to cultivate a habit of looking for things to appreciate. Remembering the ever-changing nature of things can help here. You’ll never have the same cup of hot cocoa again or feel the warmth of the same campfire again. If you’re fortunate enough to be experiencing these things with a little one, remember that they won’t be so little forever. Autumn is full of opportunities to feel and express appreciation for the things and people in your life that you love, and who are certainly fortunate to have you in their life as well. We may not always know what change the future may bring, and that’s okay. Do what you can to deserve good things before they happen but also remember to be grateful for the beautiful things in your life now. For our part, we appreciate you, Reader. Thank you for being a part of this journey, and here’s to many more. (More what?) Take care of each other!

Book Reviews Cam Fehr
Dear Evan Hansen, the musical has always had a special place in my heart. So, when I saw that there was a book, I thought there was absolutely no way to beat the musical. This story covers social anxiety, suicide, and family loss; and shows in a narrative how to recover from those experiences. Evan’s inner thoughts are so detailed and real, and can show people what it is really like to have anxiety. Each character’s development is so beautiful, because they have an understanding of what they need to do. I connected to the character, Evan a lot; from how he dealt with things to natural moments he went through. The antagonist in this story is never clear. Evan is never portrayed as the “hero,” but neither was any of the other characters, because we all are human and we mess up and hurt each other. I felt very moved by this book and it taught me that no one is ever alone, no matter what. 100% I would give this book 5/5 stars, I highly suggest this book to anyone who knows how it feels to be forgotten. 48

I love the Angel Walking trilogy! The series is written by Karen Kingsbury and published by Howard Books. It is definitely my favorite book series that I’ve had the pleasure to read. Twice! The books are so entertaining, and I found myself unable to put them down. In addition to the engrossing storyline, the novels also provide a beautiful message and lesson. Throughout the series, the characters constantly experience the physical, emotional, and spiritual battles of earth. The characters go through many trials and temptations, and are often left in seemingly hopeless situations. To help guide them out of darkness, a team of angels are assigned to help restore hope and light. The angels help the characters to fulfill God’s purpose and plan for them. The broken and lost find their way back to God and become restored. Karen Kingsbury exemplifies the miraculous power of prayer and God throughout each book. Even the angels are in desperate need of and rely on prayer and guidance from God in order to complete their mission on earth. The idea that angels are constantly guiding and watching over us represents the presence of God always being with us, even when it may not seem that way. The series has taught me that God has a plan for each and every one of us, and He will always be there. I truly recommend reading this series if you feel lost and without hope, or if you are doubting God’s plan for your life. Even if you aren’t going through these things, the series is a great reminder of God’s love for you and is a great read. This book definitely deserves 5 stars.

Botanics All Bright Cleansing Facial Wipes These wipes were so refreshing to use after having a full face of makeup. I felt very cleansed after using a wipe, and it was very soft on my skin. It cleansed my face very well, however, it wasn’t the most effective wipe I have had.
Lather Almond Milk & Honey Body Butter When I smelled this product I was instantly obsessed. A little bit of this goes a long way and is so moisturizing. It is so perfect for after shaving your legs; it really makes the skin on your legs feel healthier. This is a new daily thing I use now.
Pacifica Crystal Wand Secret Weapon Rose Quarts Facial Roller This is such a graceful looking product. I have never used a facial roller before. This was so relaxing on my face, and my sinus pressures went away. When I used it in the morning, it reduced the puffiness of my eyes. It did make a lot of noise when I used it, but didn’t matter to how my skin looked. Burt’s Bees Overnight Intensive Lip Treatment This product’s container was very different compared to the usual lip balm I’m used to. I always have loves Burt’s Bees and was very curious when I saw this. This product was very moisturizing, and my lips felt so nice in the morning. I saw no cracking through the next day and no need to constantly apply lip balm.

Do you have curly, frizzy, or unruly hair? I do! I have long, naturally curly hair. My hair stays frizzy, especially in this humidity, and the under layer tends to be straighter than the top layer. I have tried so many products that promise to tame my mane, but it seemed the products I used just weighed down my hair, made my hair feel crunchy or I didn’t like the smell. My mom purchased a couple of products from Amazon for me to try and FINALLY… something that delivers!! She purchased Moroccanoil Curl Defining Cream and Moroccanoil Curl Re-Energizing Spray. These two products are absolutely amazing, and I love the smell! The cream is light, doesn’t weigh down my curls, puts the frizz at bay and makes my curls look springy. I was hesitant at first about using the spray, because the instructions say to spray to dry hair and scrunch. I was worried it would make my hair stiff and crunchy, but it doesn’t! I use this between washes to help “re-energize” my curls. I would recommend these two products to anyone with wavy or curly hair! I give a thumbs up for both!! MODERN GRACE

in a small town
I
grew up in a town without a caution light. Where everyone still pulls to the side of the road for a funeral procession, no matter how long it takes or where they’re trying to go. Everyone knows everyone, their parents, and their grandparents. Even though there were no secrets or privacy, there was always a place to find peace. In an open field, on the lake, down a dirt road, on the ball field, or underneath a sky so dark that every star could be seen. As small as my town was, there was always space-wide open space. Room to breathe, think and feel. Growing up I hated the smallness. I hated the way every major misstep was public knowledge. I hated that rumors spread like wildfire through such a small community. I hated that we had to drive out of town for groceries, or even to get gas after dark. I hated everyone knowing everything all of the time. I suppose I was a typical teenager and hated a lot of things! It’s been twenty years since I graduated from high school and left my little town. At the time, I couldn’t wait to leave for college and live my life freely, out from underneath the small-town microscope. I dreamed of
Sara Simoneoux
basking in the anonymity of a college town. Now my own children have entered high school, and I am a walking panic attack trying to navigate their teenage years. My tiny class of thirty-six pales in comparison to their 3-A high school. It’s too big, with too many kids to keep up with. They are at the age where they’re entitled to some freedom, but I still need to know where they are, what they’re doing, and who they’re with at all times. But there are so many kids, so many names…it’s impossible to know every child and their parents. It’s mentally exhausting even without the added stress of social media. I’d give anything to have the smallness back now; for my kids to live in a community where people are so personally connected and deeply intertwined and have been that way for generations. Everything I hated as a teenager is exactly what I want for my own kids now. “You’ll understand when you grow up and have children of your own.” I’m not sure truer words have ever been spoken. Hold on mamas-these years are as short as they are hard, and our time with our babies is almost up.

ecently I was trying to get my family ready to go on vacation. There always seems to be so much that needs to be done when we are trying to go out of town. Between trying to finalize details for eight people in Disney to getting a business, a home, and two animals ready to leave for seven days, I found myself more than a little stressed out. It felt so chaotic trying to accomplish everything that I thought needed to be done. Then suddenly in the busyness of my day I could hear the Lord saying...Just stop and talk to Me...Just stop and let Me help you. Why is it that sometimes we allow ourselves to be surrounded with things that bring chaos into our lives? Did you know that the devil loves trying to distract us from the plans God has prepared for us? The devil knows that if he can distract us, then he can derail us from a life of peace and prosperity. And if we are not careful, we can quickly spoil Gods plans and ruin His intended blessings in our lives! When we are not focused on God and what He wants for us we can make our lives more difficult than they need to be. God never intended our lives to be filled with chaos or

stress, yet sometimes we welcome it with open arms. Chaos has a way of drawing us away from God, but God wants to take our chaos and turn it into calmness. Did you know that God will never lead you to something that will distract you from Him?! That doesn’t mean that there will be no hardships, it just means that God will help carry us through those hardships if we allow Him to. God will save us from the chaos around us, but we must be willing to step away from the things of this world that bring chaos into our lives and allow Him to carry those burdens for us. I don’t know about you, but there are times I feel like I am carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders. But God always has a way of reminding me that He will bring peace to my chaos by carrying those burdens if I allow Him to! Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. I will do my best to protect her, to help her grow and learn to be independent and secure. I will take this honor and hold it in the highest degree as You have entrusted me with her. Look at her…in her matching dress and pretty bow, holding my hand as I walk her to her first day of school. Lord, please watch over my baby girl. She is in your care and I trust You to keep her safe. She was so excited to tell me all she has learned… so independent and sure of herself. When did that happen? Look at her…this free-thinking, strongly independent young lady learning her worth, speaking her mind and testing my patience. Oh, I had no idea what I was in store for, but I promise I will never leave her side; I will always be her safe haven. Look at her…as she walks across that stage with her head held high, looking for me as she receives her diploma. I see you, Baby Girl, I’m right here. Only…she isn’t looking for me. I have always been there, so she trusted I’d be here on this day. I watch as her eyes scan the room for another, and as she sees him, I watch her face light up. Look at her…her first day of college, her book bag on her shoulder and her hair pulled back in a ponytail. She never even looked back to see that I was waving and watching her drive away, but then again… why would she? I’ve always been there. Look at her…broken and shattered, her heart in pieces as she falls into my arms. Lord, I promised You I would protect her,
but now I need You to give me the strength that is needed to do so in this moment. Look at her…standing there in her wedding gown with her hair pulled back with matching pearls. How did this happen so quickly? Where did the years go? As I watch her walk down the aisle I recall the
“Oh, what a beautiful sight, Lord, she will love him and keep him safe...” day I walked her to her first day of school. She held my hand tightly and didn’t want to let go. After this walk she won’t be coming home with stories of her day. I’m sorry, Lord, but I am finding it very hard to let her go. Look at him…Lord, he’s so beautiful. She wanted me in the room when he took his first breath and as he took his, he took mine away. Oh, what a beautiful sight, Lord, she will love him and keep him safe, and I will always be there for them, no
matter the day or hour. Look at You…Lord, standing before me so graciously. Giving me the peace in knowing You have it from here. She was always safe on Your watch anyway. Mothers and daughters will have disagreements and misunderstandings not only as children, but oddly enough, more so as the child becomes an adult. Adult parenting is harder in my opinion, because now after all the hard work, love, sweat and tears you have put into this beautiful person standing before you, you have to release them into this cruel world. Finding that balance so each of you can transition to this new stage of life takes work on both parts. The new status of your relationship takes time to build and it will not happen overnight. It’s gradual as you learn how to communicate with each other in a new way. It’s okay to not agree on everything, but never let the conflicts tear down a relationship that took a lifetime to build. Your mother is your biggest cheerleader; your safe haven when the troubles of the world seem too hard to bare, you can find comfort in her arms. And your daughter was a gift from God, who brought joy and happiness and an abundance of love into your life. She made every sleepless night and every tear cried worth it. It is important when disagreements arise between this dynamic duo that you don’t let it define your relationship, be mindful of your words, choose them wisely. “I’m sorry” doesn’t heal everything all the time. Uniquely and Wonderfully Made W
hen I think of fall, I think of pumpkins, scarecrows, bales of hay and spiced lattes! This time of the year I always look forward to picking out pumpkins for my porch! We are in a new home, and I cannot wait to decorate this fall! If you are anything like me, I always find myself digging to the bottom of each box of pumpkins looking for the perfect one! All the while knowing that finding the perfect pumpkin can be a challenge because they come in all kinds of different shapes, sizes, and colors! When you stop to think about it there really isn’t any such thing as a “perfect pumpkin,” because no two pumpkins are alike! The difference in each pumpkin is what makes it unique and beautiful! Isn’t that how God made us and sees us? God made each of us unique and perfect at the same time! So, what makes each of us uniquely perfect? Sure, our physical characteristics makes each of us look unique, but what
about from the inside out? We all possess something inside of us that God can use to do great things. God has equipped each of us with different gifts and talents. Some of us may have the gift of leadership, or knowledge while others may have the gift of helping or encouraging others. While my gifts and talents may look different from yours, we are called to use our talents in the same way: to serve others. For many years I wondered what my gifts were. I spent time reading books, hoping I would read something that would show me what mine were. Thankfully, God showed me through His Word that all I had to do was ask and He would reveal them to me! Isn’t that an awesome thing to know that if we would like wisdom, we may just ask and God will give us the wisdom to discern what our gifts are! Some of you may have no doubt what yours are, but you worry you are not good enough to carry out what God is ask-

ing you to do. But just as God called Moses at 80 years old to do the seemingly impossible task of leading the Israelites into the promised land, God will never call you to do something He hasn’t already equipped you to do! And just like those pumpkins God has even more perfectly and uniquely made you! When you truly understand your uniqueness then you will see God move in you and through you. You are called, you are chosen, you are capable, and you are equipped to do all God is calling you to do. Be confident in who you are and allow God to use you! God made no mistake when He made you! He made you unique and He made you perfect for carrying out His will in your life! I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. ailgating is not unique; however, no one does it quite like Louisianians do. When we gather with friends and family just before the big game, it is one of the largest social gatherings of the year. You don’t have to know other tailgaters to be welcome in their group. Some fans camp out to claim their ground for amazing views of the stadium. Others choose to tailgate at favorite meeting

spots off-site. Tailgating parties are launched throughout thousands of homes and sometimes a simple burn pile with hot dogs and marshmallows does the trick. A few hours listening to a football game with friends often heals the stress of ordinary days. So get ready, tailgating season is here! MODERN GRACE

e have many fabulous teachers in Louisiana. One such teacher is Mrs. Emma Majure, who teaches eighth grade at Pineville Junior High. She came to our attention when we were alerted of the fact that she was collecting books to create her own personal library within her classroom. That wouldn’t have been unusual necessarily, except for the fact that she had personally bought most of them herself before reaching out to the public. When we interviewed her she said “I wanted what I did every day to matter and to result in a better tomorrow, so I decided to invest in kids.” Invest she certainly has. She engages her students in new and exciting ways, such as having the kids act out certain stories, write alternate endings, and do a lot of hands-on projects. In looking through pictures of her classroom the first thing that strikes you is that it doesn’t look much like the typical classroom. She strives to create an environment that piques different personality types and creative levels. The principal at Pineville Junior High gives the teachers control over how their classrooms look. “I painted it fun colors, hired a friend to hand-paint a few designs, bought a few decorations from Etsy, and searched the marketplaces and thrift stores for furniture. My room is full of kitchen tables, standing desks, stools, etc. There are no regular desks in my room.”
PHOTO: EMMA MAJURE
In teaching, Emma says she learned a few important things: 1. It’s genuinely startling how many students in Louisiana don’t read on grade level. It really struck a chord with me, because I always loved English Language Arts classes, but I wasn’t a fan of reading since I’m dyslexic. 2. I found that a lot of my kids just don’t read because they haven’t found what they like to read yet. Some students couldn’t check out books because they owed library fees that they couldn’t pay. I wanted each of them to be able to check out a book, so I started my own classroom library. By the time they come to me as 8th graders, a lot of them have already made up their minds that they would rather do a thousand things than to read a book. Once they’ve made that decision, it’s hard to change their minds. When starting her library, she did research, found what titles young readers were into, and decided to stock her shelves with high-interest books on all levels so that even the struggling readers would be able to find something they’d enjoy. Her classroom library currently has a little over 670 titles on its shelves. “I even have students who aren’t in my classes who come to me to check out
books, and that’s how I know I’m doing something right.” She is passionate about reading, and it shows. Some methods she has incorporated is to have something she calls “book tasting” a few times per week, where she reads the first chapter or book synopsis to them in the different voices in hopes of piquing their interests. “Last year I put together a playlist on YouTube of full-length audiobooks. They range from five minutes to twelve hours in length! I was really surprised by how many of my kids ended up loving that, especially my inclusion students. After tests, or if we finished their work early they’d ask if they could listen to an audiobook. Sometimes it’s just nice to hear someone else read it to you.” “I’m truly blessed, though to have been able to afford the books up to this point. I just want to help my students find joy in reading and not find it to be a chore. Plus, reading for fun is proven to boost test scores!” Her school welcomes any book donations. The students especially enjoy fantasy, dystopian, adventure, mystery, and sports books. To find what books are on the school’s reading list, go to arbookfind.com. Book donations can be dropped off at or mailed to: Pineville Junior High School, 501 Edgewood Drive, Pineville, LA 71360.

boiled peanuts season Larry Jester
L
ouisiana “seasons” are defined differently than anywhere else on earth. Ours aren’t necessarily better than everyone else’s, however, they are most certainly unique. So neglected is the culturally significant “Boiled Peanut Season,” Louisiana: the state which enjoys at least one festival every weekend of the year has none, that we can find, dedicated solely to (arguably) our second favorite “social food.” Boiled peanuts are to the fall as crawfish are to the spring. They are maturing by pre-season football and “jumbo” by the time we are searching for fresh Nick Saban jokes. We all have that cool uncle, neighbor, or town market that makes “the best” boiled peanuts around. Just as it is with crawfish season, everybody has an opinion on how they should be cooked and which seasonings should be used. Nobody believes that a little lemon can boost flavor
without all the sodium. They are wrong. I remember eating boiled peanuts out of a paper bag on the front seat of my pawpaw’s police car; sugar cane being harvested before my very eyes as we trekked north on LA-1. Everything that fell off the truck was fair game. Everywhere I’ve been since, I remember each of my senses during the harvest season. In Louisiana, the beauty of this season lies not only within the length of the shadows, the coral sunsets, or even the occasional breeze; it is spending time with friends and family. As we gather together we find a way to turn the preparation and consumption of what was once considered peasant food into an event worthy of social celebration, as well as bragging rights. It’s time to establish a boiled peanut festival. If you know of one that already exists please email us at moderngracemag@cox.net

Maximum Impact, Minimal Footprint
T
he advent of modern, flat screen televisions has had a great deal of impact on the way that we arrange our living rooms. The days of the two-feet deep entertainment center have come and gone. However, the expense has increased as quality has plummeted. Modern Grace Magazine’s Reluctant Contributor identified (early on) the need for a practical solution to overtly contemporary offerings while repurposing heirloom furniture for today. While charming and nostalgic, the china cabinet is sadly making its way into the history books as the kitchen has (for the most part) evolved into the key gathering place for our social functions. Formal place settings have become the exception, rather than the rule. Consequently, china cabinets
are popping up in every flea market, garage sale and online marketplace. Many still carry a hefty price tag, as the pieces are typically more sentimental than practicallet alone the fortune that our parents and grandparents invested in them. However, before storing yours away, consider the design and how it may serve you and your lifestyle. While configured for its intended purpose, a china cabinet tends to be bulky and impractical for the ever-shrinking dining room. On the other hand, the cabinets tend to be between only 12-16 inches deep, yet tall and wide enough to accommodate a modern television with storage available below. With a little ingenuity (or a handy brother-in-law) you can repurpose that
heirloom into a stand-alone entertainment center which will likely be constructed of solid wood with American Craftsmanship. Modern Grace Magazine found such a relic at an estate sale for $75. After removing the glass doors and shelves, a little wood putty was used to patch screw holes as well as correcting the results of impatience. We measured for fit with a 55-inch television and fashioned a shelf and two false drawers to center the unit within the upper cabinet. Utilizing faux finishing techniques from previous editions of Modern Grace Magazine, we achieved these results with RustoleumÂŽ Heirloom White. Please share your thoughts as well as your own creations with us by emailing moderngracemag@cox.net. MODERN GRACE

Yard Fall, Y’all Y
our fall yard décor doesn’t need to be elaborate and expensive this year. You can be festive this autumn by adding affordable and simple fall items to decorate your yard such as hay bales, pumpkins, and squash. The hay bales can provide nesting material for birds and the pumpkins and squash add pops of autumn color.
