From the publishers desk...

OUR BELOVED CITY OF WACO IS FULL OF NOTEWORTHY STORES, RESTAURANTS, AND MORE, with just about anything you’re looking for. This year, we decided to highlight Waco’s favorite businesses in all different categories through our Heart of Texas Championship. This one-week online March-Madness-style competition has brought out the competitive yet playful nature of our community’s business owners as they rallied to collect votes. One of our locals said it best - “The only thing worse than competing against your friends is losing to your friends!”

We were so pleased with the overall success of the competition, and we already cannot wait for next year’s championship. We would love to offer

a special word of congratulations to the winners of this year’s championship - each and every one has a dedication to excellence that has truly set them apart as the very best Waco has to offer. We are grateful for all they contribute to the community, and we honor them with the Heart of Texas Championship awards for 2023. Throughout this issue, you will see our award winners featured in the exciting ideas we have gathered for your summer. We hope you’ll be able to kick back and relax in the summer heat as you discover new recipes, businesses, and more in this radiant and refreshing issue of Modern Texas Living.

a welcoming space

This modern family home was designed by Susana Simonpietri, creative director of Brooklyn-based interior design studio Chango & Co. The homeowners wanted the space to reflect their laid-back and easy-going lives for their four young children and pet dog. The result is a home filled with creams, blues and warm tones to help the family relax at the end of the day.

MODERN TEXAS LIVING | 15

airy comfort

Located adjacent to the entry is the hallway with arched ceilings, which provides contrast to the hard lines of the surrounding architecture. The living room is bright and features neutral accent tones that balance out the space. The room is painted a light cream to allow the space to be illuminated by the panoramic window, and the seating area surrounds two coffee tables with marble finishes to contrast the simplicity of the room and add depth.

16 | moderntexasliving.com

bold and cozy

The dining room is filled with terracotta, cognac leather and different tones of blue which appear in different variations throughout the rest of the home. The walls are lined with textured wallpaper, and the large window facing the table brightens the room and allows the residents to enjoy the view while sitting on the built-in bench underneath.

The study provides a great distinction from the light tones of the rest of the home, with walls painted in a rich navy blue. The tan leather sofa and orange chairs bring warmth to the space, and the coffee table with the geometric brown and blue design tie together the color palette of the room. The space is complete with built-in bookshelves and a bright orange geometric piece to match the orange tones in the seat fabric.

sunny oasis

The brightness of the living room continues into the sunroom. Surrounded by floor-to-ceiling arched windows, the residents can relax and enjoy the surrounding greenery. The room is centered with a sectional and a round stone-top coffee table. Two wooden cage lights give a natural feeling to the room.

a serene space

The primary bedroom returns to the original clean tones of the home, providing a sense of calm and serenity. The king bed is completed with a beige leather bench and simple white table lamps, as well as a gray carpet to compliment the similar accent tones in the room.

charming retreats

Heading into the girl’s bedroom, there is a colorful patterned wallpaper. The vast window that takes up one wall allows natural light to flow into the room and is framed by salmon pink curtains for privacy. The crib and armchair are placed right in front of the window to allow the residents to enjoy the outside scenery and natural sunlight with comfort.

The boy’s bedroom is filled with cooler tones, and the beautiful rich blue walls match the floor-toceiling drapes. The room features bunk beds and matching builtin shelves. Each bed includes a white sconce and white bedding outlined in dark blue to tie the room together.

The nursery features wallpaper inspired by the animals from Noah’s Ark, as well as light blue bubble side tables, standing bookcases, and a silk hand-loomed burnt orange throw blanket. A felt rug enhances the soft, comforting feel of the room.

The playroom provides a spark of color, with many fun details for the kids to enjoy. The standout piece of furniture is the Teepee, and the brightly colored chairs and stuffed animals complement this room. The black and white wallpaper is decorated with colorful portraits, and an entire wall is converted into a chalkboard and a bulletin board to encourage creativity.

What’s Trending at Waco Medical Laser

1. Botox and Dysport are still the most requested services I get as an injector with over 15 years of experience in the industry. Neurotoxin has actually gained in popularity as we discover new areas to treat with Botox and Dysport.

2. Ask for the “Lip Flip” and gone are the days of the gummy smile.

3. Do you clench, grind your teeth, have jaw tension or just want to help slim your face? Ask us to treat your masseter muscles.

4. Neck band injections are helpful for improving smoothness and tightness of the neck.

Botox and Dysport typically last anywhere from 3-6 months depending on the individual, constitution of the product, and the amount used. What’s great about these treatments are affordable and will wear off should you decide you do not want the commitment or like the treatment.

The Hydrafacial remains one of our most requested treatments. It has been known for contributing to a more glowing and healthy skin appearance. The procedure can also be customized for all skin types.

What’s great about Hydrafacial is you can combine it with many of our other medical grade treatments such as VI Peel, microneedling, dermaplane, or microdermabrasion, depending on your goals. Hydrafacial can be luxurious and pampering, or more advanced to address specific skin conditions.

ANGELA WOMMACK, owner of WHouseDesigns, is a woman who has turned her passion for monogramming into a thriving business. Her journey began when she needed a napmat monogrammed for her oldest son, and she decided to give it a try herself. She quickly realized that she loved monogramming, and could do it from home while raising her children. After a year of working out of her kitchen, she built a workroom in her new house and invested in a 16-needle machine, and her business took off.

As a mother of three boys, Angela’s days are never the same. She works during nap time and whenever she can find a spare moment. But her love for a good to-do list and her organizational skills keep her on track. Angela’s favorite part of her job is meeting customers from all over and hearing the stories behind the pieces she is stitching. She loves being a part of special occasions, sports events, birthdays, weddings, and more. As her business continues to grow, she has added vendors and new products, fonts, and options. The options for monogramming are endless, and Angela loves working with customers who want something specific.

Looking ahead to the next five to ten years, Angela sees a more organized and predictable schedule, with structured work hours. But for now, she is happy with her fast-paced days and the ability to be her own boss while raising her children. Angela is grateful for her relationship with Jesus, her husband’s support, and her three boys. The one piece of advice she would give to someone starting out in their own adventure of owning a business is to find something you enjoy doing, and surround yourself with people you can trust to help excel and expand your business.

CASEY HOOPER

THE ART OF NEAT | OWNER

CASEY HOOPER and her team of two other talented women, Kayleigh Cunningham and Maggie Moore, are taking Waco by storm with their decluttering expertise. The Art of Neat is their professional organizing company based in Waco that specializes in helping clients minimize, organize, and systemize spaces within their home or office.

Casey’s background is in special events and marketing, but she has always had a passion for order and creating systems that lead to a simpler and more organized life. Kayleigh and Maggie both have experience working closely with people and helping them create peaceful and sustainable solutions for their lives. The team loves collaborating on projects and helping clients see that living with less truly is more fulfilling.

While these women aim to make spaces aesthetically pleasing, their main goal is to create sustainable systems that serve clients and their families long-term. Organizing homes is not a one-size-fits-all approach. There is much more to consider when beginning a project such as budget, family aesthetics, flow of the home, and daily rhythms. The Art of Neat takes all of this into consideration when creating customized proposals.

A typical day at The Art of Neat starts several weeks before entering a home or office. Prior to arrival, the team has already completed a consultation, estimate, approval, and has purchased all products necessary for the job. On project day, the first step is taking everything out of the space and sorting by like categories. Clients are often hands-on in helping pare down and deciding what can be tossed or donated, and Casey, Maggie, and Kayleigh assist by asking the difficult questions and pushing back when appropriate. Once the space is cleared, the team helps prioritize items and organize them back into the area using bins or baskets and labeling them.

This team’s main purpose is to help make a home a space of peace, rest, and joy. They give clients the gift of time – more time spent with those they love and less time spent on their things. The most rewarding thing about their work is seeing the looks of relief, joy and peace on clients’ faces or tears in their eyes when the job is complete.

Casey, Kayleigh and Maggie hope that by using their services, clients can see and use the things they love while realizing what they have is truly enough. Their main advice for someone trying to make their way in the business world is not to be afraid of change and to give themselves and their business grace to ebb and flow as needed.

Wine Bottle Bouquet DIY

Raise your hand if you’ve ever struggled to come up with a unique gift idea or creative way to decorate your home for a special occasion. Raises hand. Well, fear not my fellow gift-giving and home-decorating enthusiasts, because I have a solution that’s both beautiful and functional, the wine bottle floral bouquet!

Whether you’re a seasoned floral designer or a complete newbie, this project is easy to do and will leave you feeling like a true artist. And the best part? You can use either fresh or faux flowers, depending on your preference.

Here’swhatyou’llneed:

• Fresh or faux floral stems

• Scissors

• Wet or dry Oasis foam block (depending on whether you’re using fresh or faux florals)

• Bottle of wine or your beverage of choice (because let’s be real, everything is better with a drink in hand)

MODERN TEXAS LIVING | 41

Select fresh flowers that will complement the wine and occasion. Don’t be afraid to mix and match colors and textures to create a unique and visually appealing bouquet.

Use a sharp knife or scissors to cut the Oasis block to fit the size of the bottle neck. Gently press the top of your bottle into the center of your Oasis block until fully secure and the top of your bottle is visible.

Carefully remove the Oasis block from the wine bottle. Use a small bowl filled with water and soak your Oasis block for a few minutes until it becomes completely saturated. This will ensure that the foam will hold moisture and help keep your flowers fresh.

Place the wet Oasis block back onto the top of the bottle neck. Pro tip - you may want to wrap your block using plastic wrap to keep drips at a minimum.

Pre-cut your flowers to your desired length. Begin to arrange your flowers by inserting them into the foam. Start with larger blooms in the center and work your way outward with smaller flowers and foliage to create a balanced and visually appealing arrangement in the round.

And voila! You now have a stunning wine bottle floral bouquet that’s ready to impress. When it’s time to enjoy your wine or beverage, simply slide the floral arrangement from the bottle and indulge. Your floral block can then be transferred to another vessel to enjoy. Flowers should stay fresh while inserted in an Oasis foam block that has been saturated with water for 3-5 days while hydrated.

JAJA CHEN & DEVIN LI

CHA COMMUNITY | CO-OWNERS

JAJA CHEN and her husband, DEVIN LI, are the co-owners of Cha Community, a boba tea small business located in Waco, Texas. The couple’s shared struggles with disconnection from their cultures as Taiwanese American and Chinese immigrants in Central Texas led them to establish Cha Community in 2018. The fast-casual boba business aims to bridge cultures and create community through premium boba tea, pan-fried dumplings, and Taiwanese and Chinese food.

One of the reasons Jaja and Devin love the Waco community is because it is small enough to allow easy connections with other leaders and small business owners. They credit the community’s support for local small businesses, artists, and entrepreneurs as a significant factor in Cha Community’s growth from a pop-up tent to two boba tea cafes in Waco and Temple, Texas.

Jaja’s background in social work and Devin’s experience as an engineer have helped them in their roles as small business owners. They love running the business together as a married couple and integrating their personal and business lives. Any differences in opinion they may have make their business more innovative and creative, and they are always in alignment when it comes to the mission, values, and overall vision. Family is important to the two, and you can see that in the way they work to create connections and community through their cafes.

Cha Community is 100% Asian American-owned and valuesdriven, and Jaja and Devin are passionate about showcasing diverse flavors. The boba tea they sell comes from Taiwan,

where much of their family lives, and their goal is for guests to experience these authentic flavors and cultures. They want every young child in Central Texas to know about boba tea, and be able to learn more about Taiwanese and Chinese cultures.

Because of their connections with farms around the world and the Waco Downtown Farmer’s Market, they are also working continuously to increase their sustainable practices within the cafes. With Jaja’s background in social work, it is important to her that they recycle and compost ingredients when they can, utilizing dine-in dishes and reusable straws. Jaja is a chair of the City of Waco Sustainable Resources Practices advisory board, and Devin is a board member with the Waco Downtown Farmer’s Market. This combination allows Cha Community to be a leading business as far as sustainability and farm-to-table partnerships and collaborations.

The advice the couple would give to individuals trying to make their way in the business world is to get involved in your local community and begin building relationships with individuals that inspire you, and who are doing the work that you hope to do one day. Jaja and Devin are grateful for the support of the Waco community, and they hope to continue partnering with small businesses and local groups to increase collaboration and community in Waco.

Kherington’s

We just had an exciting Alphabet Day this weekend with my friends and little brother. Mom picked the letter M, and we started with a yummy breakfast at MILO, then went on a MILE WALK

Up Jacob’s Ladder in Cameron Park, all the way to MISS NELLIE’S PRETTY PLACE. The day ended with the best smoothie bowls at MAMAKA.

You can have your own Alphabet Day too! Pick a letter and go to places that start with that letter. It’s super fun! Next time, maybe we’ll do the letter P and go to the pool and the park.

Stay tuned for more adventures!

KRISTA BRINSER

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY RELATIONS | BAYLOR UNIVERSITY

KRISTA BRINSER, Director of Community Relations at Baylor University, is a driving force in building connections between the university and the Waco community. She leads the Solid Gold Neighbor Initiative, which aims to foster a deep, mutual love between Baylor and Waco. Her and her team focus on health, education, cultural wealth, economic development, and city growth.

“Her work is driven by her sense of responsibility for paving paths between the university and the city, and she is motivated by the excitement of facing something new every day and helping others find their Waco.”

Krista’s day-to-day work includes supporting programs that align with city growth, such as the Waco Perks discount program, which leverages the buying power of students, faculty, and staff to support Waco’s small business community. The community relations team also collaborates with organizations such as Keep Waco Beautiful and Creative Waco to activate micro-murals and other initiatives that make Waco a distinct and fun place to live.

What makes Krista so successful in her role is her love for Waco and Baylor. As an undergraduate student at Baylor, Brinser fell in love with the architecture, old buildings, and sense of history in Waco. She returned to Baylor as a staff member, eventually becoming Director of Community Relations. Brinser hopes to help others find their own love for Waco by introducing them to the special places, events, and activities that make the city unique.

Krista describes the Baylor culture as a true family. She has felt mentored and supported by supervisors, peers, and campus partners throughout her time at the university. Her work is driven by her sense of responsibility for paving paths between

the university and the city, and she is motivated by the excitement of facing something new every day and helping others find their Waco.

Outside of work, Krista is heavily involved in giving back to the community. She is President of the Junior League of Waco, an organization that empowers women to make a difference locally through voluntarism and service. Brinser also serves on the Cameron Park Zoological and Botanical Society Board.

Her openness, drive, and communication skills have helped her succeed in her position. She is an open book, and by sharing her personal experiences, she builds trust with collaborators. Krista’s advice to those starting out in the business world is to have confidence in their choices and show up authentically. Your voice is your gift, and it’s important to share it.

Krista Brinser’s dedication to building bridges between Baylor and Waco is inspiring. Through her work at Baylor, she is helping to create a city that residents are proud to call home.

the CITRANO FAMILY

Kyle and Kayla Citrano’s story started on the 50-yard line in the stands of a TCU football game. Kyle was distracted by the game, and Kayla was not impressed by him, but they had mutual friends and continued running into each other. Eventually, Kayla had an emergency surgery, and when Kyle received the news, he panicked and professed his love. Now three kids and many years later, this family is an integral part of the Waco community.

Kyle had grown up in Waco, and although he wanted to leave for college, he always knew he would find his way back, and he did. After Kyle graduated and worked in the food sales industry for two years, he, along with his father, Sammy Citrano, and cousin, felt like it was the right time to open a second George’s. So, Kyle and Kayla moved back - Kayla describes being ready for the challenge of another new home and building a life with Kyle as they got engaged that Summer of 2010.

62 | moderntexasliving.com

They have now been happily married for 12 years, and their family is always on the move, between Kyle’s busy work schedule and the kids’ activities. Kayla spends most days running the day-to-day at the house and taking care of the kids, and Kyle’s schedule changes every week depending on the needs of the George’s location in Hewitt. Sundays are a special day for the family, and they make sure to spend quality time together since the restaurant is closed on that day. They usually go on a Shipley’s donut run, play outside, and have fun as a family.

What drives Kyle is his family - he works hard to provide for them and wants them to understand that success takes determination. The Citranos want to leave a legacy for their kids that is guided by hard work, humility, and respect for everyone. What drives Kayla is coffee and her three beautiful kids. The family loves to travel, to be outside, and to cheer on their favorite sports teams.

The Citrano family is a joy to be around, and their love for each other shines bright. Their favorite nights are when Kyle is able to be home for dinner. They sit around the dinner table as a family, debrief their day, and occasionally end the meal with a dance party. Both Kyle and Kayla would argue that the other is an incredible parent and doesn’t give themselves enough credit. They strive to maintain high expectations of themselves, each other, and their

children. They have built a life in Waco that is filled with happiness, and they are such a wonderful presence in the local community.

SMART

Sarah Campbell is a local Physician Assistant, Owner and Founder of Waco Center for Functional Medicine and Natural Primary Care. She has a strong passion for family, community, faith and natural medicine. Her background in neuroscience and years of experience in family medicine, hospital medicine, and urgent care have led her to become wellestablished in the field of Functional Medicine. Her story is unique and inspiring as she shares how her journey of helping her own children in their health struggles led to the establishment of Waco Center for Functional Medicine, which has expanded to multiple clinics.

Her passion for natural medicine was ignited when two of her children were diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder. She recalls a period of time that was very challenging for her family as her children never slept and struggled with frequent illness despite common medications and interventions. This led her to seek guidance from a functional medicine provider in Austin where she saw a significant transformation in her children’s health after making diet changes and taking basic supplements. This ignited her passion to learn more about nutrition, gut health, chronic inflammation, and chronic infections. With her desire to offer

this type of healthcare to the Waco community, she started seeing functional medicine patients parttime, which eventually grew to a full-time practice and even further expansion into Primary Care.

Her love for her family is evident as she talks about her husband, Raynor, and their three children, Kylar, Cade, and Kallum. She and Raynor met during their freshman year at Baylor, where Raynor was a four year letter winner playing Baylor baseball. Raynor played in the minor league system for the San Francisco GIants for a few years and is now a local Commercial Real Estate broker and an assistant coach for their sons select baseball team at Diamond Athletics. Their kids are now thriving and enjoy cheerleading, baseball, and spending time with their friends.

Raynor and Sarah love spending time outdoors with their children and cheering them on in their various extracurricular activities. The family loves the close-knit community in Waco, where they can run into people they know anywhere they go.

Sarah’s work intersects with her family life as she juggles her role as a wife, mother, and business owner. She relates well to her patients, especially busy parents who have their own health concerns or who also have concerns about their children’s health, as she has been through similar struggles. Her goal is to offer hope and healing to those who feel confused about their health, becoming a “medical detective” looking for the root cause of illnesses. Her favorite part of her work is getting to know her patients and allowing them to feel heard while walking alongside them in their healing journey.

Her determination, problem-solving skills, and adaptability are qualities that have helped her succeed in her position. She also believes in using experiences that may have been difficult or challenging in her life to help others. She is grateful for the people who have helped her along the way, including her mentors in the field of medicine and those who have supported her in her passion to help others through Functional Medicine. Her advice to future PAs is to trust their gut, ask questions, research for themselves, and most importantly, listen to their patients.

Sarah’s passion for functional medicine has offered hope and healing to the community, and her journey is inspiring and a testament to the impact that a single person can make in the world.

Carefully pipe the batter into the prepared molds, taking care to fill each mold to 2/3-full. Not more (they will inflate like balloons in the oven) and not less (they’ll be flat and skimpy looking). Blot any messes in the center areas or in any area of the donut pan with a paper towel.

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, on the center rack, rotating pans once midway through baking for optimal results. Donuts are done when they look set and are springy to the touch. Allow donuts to cool in the pans for about 5 minutes before removing and placing on wire racks to cool completely. While the donuts cool, make the glaze.

If you are making multiple colors of glaze, do that now by adding uncolored glaze to separate bowls (up to 4) and add a few drops of pastel food coloring (or the colors of your choice) to each bowl, as desired, and stir well to combine so there are no streaks.

Dip the donuts in the glaze for about 1 to 2 seconds, shaking lightly afterward, and allowing excess glaze to drip back off into the bowl. Place donuts on parchment paper or a wire rack after they’re been glazed. Repeat the process with as many colors as desired.

Optionally, add edible glitter, sprinkles, or any other festive garnishes as desired before the glazes sets up fully, about 20 minutes.

At Pure Energy Solar, we truly value our roots here in Texas, and we take immense pride in serving our fellow Texans. The solar industry is experiencing remarkable growth in central Texas, and we’re grateful to be a part of it. As the demand for energy independence continues to rise, we want our fellow Texans to know that we have their backs. We understand that many individuals have chosen non-Texas companies, only to face difficulties when it comes to servicing and connecting with those out-of-state or out-of-business companies. Our local presence and established reputation allow us to be there for you when you need us most.

We humbly ask you to consider Pure Energy Solar as your local and reliable choice. Let us be the ones to provide you with exceptional service, knowing that we are here to serve our community and ensure your energy needs are met.

Finding the Best Solar Fit:

• Research & Reputation - Take the time to research a company’s reputation and how long they have been in business.

• Local Presence - Opt for a familiar face and a company that knows the local regulations, permits, and incentives.

• Experience - Look for well-established companies with a proven track record of successful installations.

• Certifications & Licenses - Ensure that the company holds the necessary certifications, licenses, and insurance to operate in your area.

• Warranty - Inquire about the warranty provided by the company for the maintenance of the solar panels and other equipment.

• Transparent Pricing - Make sure the company provides a detailed quote that outlines all costs to avoid hidden fees.

If you're interested in seeing if solar is the right fit for you, reach out to: Jarom Ngakuru (385) 382-4007 jaromngakuru@pure.solar Brad Showalter (254) 300-6192 bradshowalter@pure.solar Visit pure.solar for more information.

UNLOCK YOUR T rue COLORS

Personal color analysis—a

storm! While the seasonal color system has been going strong in the United Kingdom for more than 40 years, a new generation here in the U.S. is having fun discovering whether they are a winter, spring, summer, or autumn. House of Colour, a local consulting studio, says that for some, the confidence boost from the color process can be life-changing.

Kassie Padgett and Dannee Geshay, co-owners of the House of Colour franchise in Waco, started their colorful journey two years ago when Dannee convinced Kassie that she needed to get her “colors done”. Dannee grew up hearing about her “season” from her mother, who owned one of the original books discussing personal color analysis.

After chancing upon House of Colour on social media, she insisted that her sister join her to find out their best colors with a regional Image Consultant. Blown away by the professionalism of the process, Dannee embraced her autumn season, cleaned out her closet, and told everyone who would listen about the lifechanging experience.

Weeks later, Kassie joined her for a color analysis appointment of her own. Kassie admitted, “I went into the day thinking, ‘I’m still probably going to keep wearing whatever colors I want. Color cannot be that impactful.’ But I could not believe the difference that warm and cool colors made on the appearance of my face. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.” Empowered by her cool, vivid winter palette, Kassie gained confidence in choosing clothes that complimented her features and harmonized with her skin tone.

“Seeing the process was fascinating and FUN! We wanted others to experience that transformation, and not have to drive several hours to do it,” said Dannee. After attending extensive training, the duo are now expert Image Consultants in Waco, trained in House of Colour’s proprietary color analysis process. During each 90 minute personal color consultation, they use a series of precision-dyed colored drapes to narrow down the tones and shades that enhance a client’s complexion. “You learn so much more than what you might initially think,” said Kassie. “People generally assume we are just talking about clothing colors, but you’re going to use your color palette if you add color to your hair, makeup colors, best jewelry metals, nail polish, glasses, and more. Anytime you’re surrounding yourself with color, it can be your best colors.”

House of Colour also offers a style analysis class that helps people find the best clothing and cut for their body. They use body architecture, face shape, and even a fun personality quiz to really determine what clothing silhouettes and style details will be the most flattering to each individual.

Embracing Imperfection

I had a bad day today.

I often write about the good days, because who wants to hear bad news? I know I don't. I love the positive side of life so much, I solely focus on good news stories at KWTX in a daily segment called "Tell Me Something Good."

But not all days are good, and I had one of them today. I wanted to share this while it's fresh on my mind because only sharing the positive side of life is misleading. Social media tends to make us all feel like everyone else has their life together but us. The kids' perfect outfits, the familys' perfectly posed photographs, the "A" honor roll, or a kid's homerun.

But life isn't always what it seems.

Today, I yelled at my kids. I got frustrated with my husband. I cried while hiding behind a tree in my front yard. I missed my 3rd grader's end-of-the-six-weeks award ceremony. Not on purpose - I just plain forgot. When I picked up 9-year-old Natalie from school, she was fighting back tears as she climbed into my car. "Where were you?" she asked.

It dawned on me that the event on my calendar went unnoticed.

Tears began to flow down my face, so much so that I could barely see the road on the drive home. My kids tried to comfort me. I felt like a failure. A bad mom. I'd been feeling like that for days, between working, getting to ball games, attending after-school events, homework and everything in between. I felt exhausted, overwhelmed and stretched so thin I couldn't possibly be successful with anything.

So, today I'm allowing myself to have a bad day and accept I'm not perfect and, in fact, am far from it.

Thank goodness for good friends and family who help us through the tough days. I'm thankful for a boss who told me to rest, and for a friend who took video and pictures of Natalie accepting her awards when she noticed I was absent. I'm grateful for a husband who encouraged me when I was undeserving of understanding.

As moms, we put way too much pressure on ourselves to be everything for everyone. And every once in a whilewe remember we're human.

So, today I'm okay with not being okay.

But I'm also thankful for a life that, while not perfect, is pretty darn good. And that is good news.

"
And every once in a while, we remember we’re human."

Foresight Leveraging the power of discernment

Just as a skilled climber relies on experience to read a mountain’s topography in their push toward its summit, recognizing nuances in the financial landscape requires a discerning eye.

Relying on over 25 years of experience, Joe Calao works closely with each client to develop a wealth management plan to help capitalize on potential that so often goes unrecognized.

To hear Joe talk about this and other wealth management topics, tune in to his podcast Your Money and a Cup of Joe on Spotify or Apple Podcasts.
