Our coastal Cape Cod-inspired home sits in the midwest city of Omaha, Nebraska, rather than near the beach. We love coastal homes because of the inviting and relaxed feel they have, and we want our family and friends to feel that way when they enter our home. Our family of five is the focal point in our one-and-a-half story floor plan, and in every design decision we made during the build process.

The
timeless white wainscoting details surround our staircase and our foyer to create a welcoming space for guests. Blue accents are incorporated in just about every room of our home through decor, Caitlin Wilson rugs, and fabrics. Just beyond the entryway, brass lanterns line our main hallway and overlook our great room, with floor-to-ceiling windows filling our home with natural light.

The heart of our home is in our kitchen and great room. Our great room is a mix of form and function, achieving a comfortable but classic look. We continued classic trim details throughout our kitchen cabinetry and living room built-ins that provide additional storage. Our rattan counter stools and dining chairs add a touch of coastal flair. A dinette, fully encased in windows, and a separate formal dining room provide plenty of seating when we entertain our family and friends.

AT HOME
Our day-to-day life can be pretty busy with three young boys, so we wanted our primary bedroom to feel like a calm and relaxing retreat. We incorporated soft colors and white linen bedding to give our room a casual, serene vibe. The navy blue bathroom is our youngest and middle sons’ shared bathroom. The leather pulls and brass accents make their bathroom feel sophisticated and masculine.

AT HOME
With three boys, we wanted each of their bedrooms to be unique and tailored to their personalities. We invested in foundational pieces like their beds, dressers, and nightstands, and added in pops of color with their bedding, rugs, and artwork. Each room feels youthful for this stage in life, but the furniture pieces we selected are pieces that will evolve with them for years to come.

AT HOME
For our powder bathroom, we selected a thick sisal wallpaper to give it a pop of blue and a hint of texture, and paired it with a polished nickel pedestal sink. Here, the clear orb vase, hand soaps, and marble tray are all from Kate’s home decor store, Jansen Home. www.shopjansenhome.com

very spring, we see plants come back to life in a season of perpetual renewal. Despite being dormant during the chilly winter months, the warm sun and needed rainfall allow each flower to bud and bloom into a new version of themselves, ready to grow and evolve. Wouldn’t it be nice for us to look at spring the same way a flower might? A time to awaken from a winter slumber, ready to renew ourselves in the best way possible? If you’re seeking a fresh take on this year, we encourage you to consider one way of feeling like you are blossoming with the flowers: getting back to the dinner table. Sitting down to dinner with your loved ones appears too easy, as if it couldn’t possibly make a big impact in your

life. But what if we told you that getting back to the dinner table with loved ones will impact your life in big ways? And, what’s more, it’ll also impact the lives of those you love. Gathering around a table and being present with whomever you share a meal will allow you to feel connected, and in turn, feel renewed. To set this into motion, we have a few #HostfulHacks that’ll make getting back to the dinner table this spring a whole lot simpler and doable. Our Hostful Hacks are easy, proven ways to make hosting and entertaining easier and enjoyable, even if you’re only welcoming the people in your home to the dinner table. So, choose the hacks that fit your family, or commit to all. Regardless, each one of these tips will get you closer to a more connected, more refreshed you this year!
HOSTFUL HACK #1: Decide on weeknight dinner themes For us, the decision-making process of dinner is what burns us out first. There are at least 20 weeknight dinners in a month. That’s a lot of decisions to make, and it’s easy to let this be the first deterrent in tossing in the towel on getting back to the dinner table. To make this task doable, choose a loose theme for each weeknight. Our go-tos are Meatless Mondays, Taco Tuesdays and Italian Wednesdays. Notice that we aren’t naming the actual meal we plan to make, but, instead, we’re naming the genre of meal. This allows our brain to not have to start at square one. Take this to the next level by having rotating meals for each genre. For Meatless Mondays, have 4-5 meals that are written out somewhere that you can simply shuffle up and then input them into your schedule. This method instantly takes the mental gymnastics of what to make off your to-do list. You’re one step closer to getting back to that dinner table.
HOSTFUL HACK #2: Simplify the process No one ever said getting back to the dinner table included meals from scratch. Pairing some homemade meal components with store-bought items will give your dinner the feel of being homemade without all the work. Most local grocery stores offer fully-cooked rotisserie chicken or other main proteins. Pair your choice with easy side dishes that take minutes to cook up, and you’ll have yourself a warm meal made to be shared with others. Another tactic for simplifying the process of making dinner is finding ways to eliminate or reduce clean up. One way to do this is by choosing one-pan or one-pot meals. Many stir fry and casserole recipes only need one vessel for cooking, keeping your kitchen nice and tidy.
HOSTFUL HACK #3: Love your space Ever put on workout clothing to encourage yourself to make it to the gym? This tip is in that same vein. Create a dining room space that makes you want to spend time in it. Choose the homewares that make you smile and feel relaxed. Let spring be a time of renewal for both nature and yourself through changing your mindset around dinners gathered at the table. Enjoy a new way of thinking about the planning and commitments surrounding this goal by embracing simple changes to your approach. Remember that getting back to the dinner table doesn’t have to include made-fromscratch meals or unnecessary stress. Instead, welcome the fact that getting back to the dinner table can and will allow you to feel renewed through connection with those who matter most. Hap-Bee Hosting!

NOT SURE WHERE TO START? Try these easy pointers: • Choose a soft color palette. The color you choose doesn’t matter as much as the subdued nature of the hue. Opting for home decor items that come in muted versions of colors will automatically make your space feel peaceful and inviting. • Neutral serveware offers peace of mind. When you invest in quality, neutral dinnerware, you give yourself the gift of year-round elegance and ease. Creams and whites pair well with any color scheme and season, lending an effortless beauty to your dining room table. • Invest in seasonless, decorative serveware. When dinners are served family style, it creates the communal experience of a shared meal. We always suggest serving food in neutral serveware with accent pieces in brushed brass, gold or silver. Having the right tools that also blend into your decor will offer hassle-free gatherings all year round. • Add an element of warmth. Our favorite go-to for adding warmth is candlelight. Lowering overhead lighting and adding candles creates an intimate atmosphere and encourages others to relax. Furthermore, opting for an enticing scent will allow you to look forward to spending time in this space.

GARDENING TIPS

GET MOVING
1
This is the best time to move most plants. (Unless it’s a Spring bloomer…wait to move these in the fall.) Don’t be afraid to dig them up, especially if last year you noticed them not growing that well in their current spot. Now is a great time to divide hostas, day lillies and any summer blooming perennial. If you’re planning to move plants, do a little Google search to refresh your memory on the best practices for moving that particular plant. Some plants are picky.
PULL THE WEEDS! I know this seems like an ‘of course’ thing to do…but seriously. Now’s the time to weed. This time of year is easier since the dirt will be softer from winter rains so it tends to be easier to get the entire weed out. Plus, the weeds are small right now. If you wait until the spring sunshine starts hanging around more, the weeds will be stronger and they’ll have spread. And to top it all off, this is the easiest time to see them. Since the plants have mostly died back it’s much easier to get to the weeds. Do yourself a favor and go weed!
MULCH
3
While the plants are still small, and cut back, put a nice layer of mulch down. It’s easy to spread right now, plus the spring rains will help transfer the nutrients from the mulch into the soil.
4
START YOUR VEGETABLES
I have a standing date on our calendar each year to start our vegetable seeds. Mid March for the tomatoes and zucchini, late March for cucumbers. Check your growing Zone for more exact dates. Even though we can direct sow zucchini and cucumbers, we like to have a jump start on the growing season. Pull your calendar out and set a date for you and your seeds! We have a ‘green house’ set up in our garage by the window complete with: • Self Watering Seed Starting Tray • Reusable 4 inch Plant Pots to transfers starts into • Biodegradeable Plant Pots
GARDEN FERTILIZER RECIPE
5
The best way to grow healthy vegetables is to start with healthy soil, which comes from good compost and mulch, plus a boost from organic components. Here’s the recipe we use to rejuvenate our garden beds. Our master gardener neighbor passed this recipe on to us and now we get to share it with you!
• 4 parts seed meal (cottonseed or canola meal) • 1/2 part lime (try to find or make an equal mix of soil sweet and super sweet, check out your local garden center) • 1/2 part phosphate rock or bone meal • 1/2 part kelp meal In raised beds, gently work 1 to 2 gallons of complete organic fertilizer uniformly atop each 100 square feet of growing area before sowing or planting.

HOW IT STARTED We got the idea for RV life as we were headed home from a road trip and passed a renovated school bus on the highway. That got us thinking, “Hey, that would be fun!” We gave up our former lives, working 9-5 jobs and living in a brick & mortar home to work remotely, live simply, and explore often. Not long after this big lifestyle change, we knew RV life was the perfect fit for us. This lifestyle allows us the freedom to explore, live with less and enjoy more time with our family. We get to spend our days hiking, swimming, and adventuring with our pups and that’s why we love our little home on wheels. We are constantly finding creative and cost-efficient ways to enhance everyday life on the road, and are always searching for new ideas to add a bit of fun to our to-do list. From renovating things like old RV cushions to painting our own DIY stock tank pool, we update our followers on the ins and outs of our RV life through our social media and blog. This life requires a knack for innovation and a love for the outdoors, and it has been the perfect lifestyle decision for our family.

AT HOME
GOING ALL IN We purchased our first vintage 1989 motorhome a few months later, renovated it over the course of the next six months, and lived in it for a year on our family’s farm in Florida. At that point, we were "all in" on RV living and decided to purchase and renovate another, slightly bigger, fifth wheel. This project was a big one, but we are in love with the end result.
TIME TO DESIGN We really poured our personalities into the new design, combining retro, mid-century, and boho styles into this RV. Some of our favorite design elements are the funky, retro wallpaper, rattan accents and our mid-century leather couch (that we barely squeezed into the RV). Even though it’s a small space at 280 square feet, it’s perfectly cozy and comfortable for us and our Chihuahuas! Living tiny has changed our perspective on what’s important in life and we are so thankful for the experience. 40 | moderntexasliving.com

SKINCARE MUST HAVES RHONDA'S PICK My go-to product and why we brought Skinbetter into our practice is EVEN. It was no surprise this tone-correcting serum is a fan favorite of this company AND a 2x award winner. The appeal for me is that b.r.y.t targets the discoloration and does so with groundbreaking non-retinol and non-hydroquinone technology. I cannot tolerate retinol and have concerns with the long-term use of hydroquinone. I use EVEN twice a day and notice a dramatic reduction in my hyperpigmentation. I got one little sample from a fellow injector and was so impressed, I had to bring it to Waco for our clients.
TAYLOR'S PICK The Trio Rebalancing moisturizer is my favorite product. It has hyaluronic acid and ceramides to hydrate the skin and improve radiance and smoothness. Products that hydrate and make my skin look glowy are always the most important to me. Hydrated skin is youthful-looking skin. Everyone needs this product.
BELLA'S PICK Antioxidants are your best defense! By neutralizing free radicals, Skinbetter Alto Defense Serum includes 19 powerhouse antioxidants, acting as a shield against daily pollutants, reducing redness, and improving luminosity. I use this serum morning and night – it's weightless, silky, and my absolute favorite!

Top Favorite Wines
Mettler Family Vineyards Estate Grown Petite Sirah Lodi, CA 2019
Jenny Douglas, also known as “Waco Wine Girl”, is a wine connoisseur, loving mother, and dear friend to many. She lives in Waco, Texas with her husband Matt, two kids, and their dog Leo. Jenny was an Air Force wife, and while her husband served, they lived in California for his first assignment. During that time, she worked for a company in Napa Valley that specialized in staffing wineries, and her day-to-day life involved driving through miles of gorgeous vineyard. She fell in love with wine there, and when they moved to Europe and lived near the “weintrasse” (wine trail) in Germany, wine became weaved in the fabric of their life. They immersed themselves in the culture as they met new friends over wine made by hand, and watched their children stomp grapes at harvest crush in Italy. These early experiences led to a life of wine tastings. Jenny became certified Level 2 with the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET), and continued to pursue information about the subject through many reference books, websites, podcasts, and more. While continuing to be a stay-at-home mom, Jenny works at The Boiler Room in the Findery, where she is able to educate and welcome more people to the world of wine tasting.

Makenzie Asisi Makenzie Asisi, owner of Milk Bottle Cookies, is as full of personality as she is delicious cookie recipes. She is married with three daughters, and spends her days taking care of her family and making cookies for the people of Waco. She is originally from Utah, and has a love for traveling, especially if it involves the beach. She is happiest when in a great routine, and loves to work out in her free time – if she has any. The story of Milk Bottle Cookies starts with Makenzie’s family. Before her business was even a thought in her mind, she and her family moved to Waco after her husband’s job relocation, and all three children went off to school. She wasn’t sure what to do with all her free time, so being new to the town, she began to make friends, perfect her cookie recipes, and try new things. For the driven and talented Makenzie, “new things” included starting an entire business from the ground up. Makenzie began to envision what she wanted Milk Bottle Cookies to look like. Growing up, Makenzie had always wanted her own bakery – a mom-andpop kind of place, with a welcoming environment for all. She dreamed up more and more ideas, took pictures, started an Instagram, and the rest is history. Milk Bottle Cookies has been open for 4 years, and is a beloved business in Waco.
50 | moderntexasliving.com
She describes her business as honest, fun, and family-oriented. Her favorite part of the job is knowing that people are depending on her, because they need her cookies to celebrate their loved ones. Brightening others’ lives through baking is her goal. One of Makenzie’s favorite customer experiences was when she made cookies for her daughter’s teachers. The appreciation and excitement were written all over their faces from just a simple cookie, and that experience showed her she really could make a difference for people who work so hard. Makenzie has big dreams for the future of Milk Bottle Cookies, with no lack of plans, skills, and resources to get there. She is hoping for new locations as soon as possible, and is working towards that goal each day. DERBY WREATH By Grace Hamlin @gracehamlin / Photography by Alisia Thompson

o begin, soak your wet floral foam wreath. A bathtub is a great option, or the biggest container you can find.
Use moss as a base and cover the entire form with it using wreath pins to secure it.
Next, add greenery. With the moss and greenery in place, now it's time to add Wet floral foam wreath, the flowers. This is wreath pins, floral shears, all to taste and with moss and greenery of your your eye – cut your choosing, flowers, ribbon, flowers. I think mixing 3M Tape, 3M hook and matching sizes and colors creates an organic quality, with various clusters of blooms scattered around the form. Secure the flowers with the wreath pins and don’t be afraid to step away for a bit and come back with fresh eyes to move things as you see fit.
Materials
Then, secure the ribbon to the back of the wreath with Gorilla tape and hang the horseshoe on your front door with the tips up, since old equestrian superstition says that tips down means your luck will run out! We don’t need that energy, so upright it goes! Using a 3M hook on the back of my front door, I hung the ribbon from it and through the top of the door. | 69
by Julie Hays
We often wear that as a badge of honor, but a new year is an opportune time to remind us that attention to our own mental and physical health is vital. I’ve never been big on New Year’s Resolutions, but this year I decided 2022 is a great time to restart and recharge. The last few years have been exhausting for all of us. COVID-19 has left us stressed, isolated at times, and just plain worn out. While I wish the virus never existed, I have learned some valuable lessons in the quiet of quarantine. Like being so busy isn’t a bad thing, and nights at home without practices or events to attend means more quality time with family.
But here we are, back to a new normal and busy again. As moms, we exhaust ourselves pouring into everyone else in our household first.
That’s why a restart is so important. For me, it meant calling on my wellness coach, Jenny McCormick. Through the process of helping me lose more than 40 pounds in 2020, she became a friend, a mentor, and someone I could trust. Jenny helped me set daily goals, and she taught me that to get desired results I had to do the work. But as life got busy, I found excuses. Thankfully, I’d learned enough from Jenny that despite days I struggled I was able to maintain most of my weight loss and more importantly, keep my head in a good space. But I needed a refresher. Since January 1, I’ve communicated with Jenny every morning, and day by day I’ve started to feel more like that best version of myself. It may not be a wellness coach that you need. Maybe it’s more time with your spouse or meeting a girlfriend for lunch. Maybe it’s taking a 20-minute walk in your neighborhood, journaling or getting an extra hour of sleep. Going back to the drawing board or needing a helping hand doesn’t mean you’re weak – it means you’re human. Whatever it is, take time to recharge. 2022 is just beginning.

FRESH SPRING ROLLS WITH SALMON AND PEANUT SAUCE By Joanne Headley @theoliveandmango
INGREDIENTS For the sweet chili marinade • 1 lime, juiced • 4 teaspoons sesame oil • 3 teaspoons Asian red chili paste (sambal oelek or Sriracha) • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds • 2 teaspoons sugar or honey • 1 clove garlic, minced • 1 teaspoon salt • ¼ teaspoon black pepper For the spring rolls • Two 213g cans of Gold Seal Wild Pink Salmon, larger bones and skin removed and flaked • 10 sheets of spring rolls rice paper wrappers • 5 large green lettuce leafs each torn in half
• 1 ounce cooked rice vermicelli (optional) • ½ cup purple cabbage sliced thin • 1 large carrot, peeled and sliced into thin strips • 1 large cucumber, sliced into thin strips • 1 bunch fresh mint leaves • 1 bunch fresh basil leaves • 1 bunch fresh cilantro • optional for garnish: sesame seeds Easy peanut dipping sauce • ¼ cup creamy peanut butter • 1 Tablespoon hoisin sauce • 2 teaspoons soy sauce • 1 clove garlic, minced • 1 teaspoon Sriracha sauce or a chile garlic sauce, optional for spice • 1–2 Tablespoons warm water, or more as needed
DIRECTIONS For the dipping sauce 1. Process in a food processor or whisk together everything except water until smooth. Add 1-2 tablespoons of warm water or until you reach desired thinness. Pour into a serving bowl and garnish with crushed peanuts (optional). Set aside. 2. In a small bowl whisk together the sweet chili marinade and the pour over flaked salmon and toss gently. 3. Cook vermicelli noodles in boiling water, for just a few minutes, according to package instructions. Drain and rinse with cold water and set aside Gather all topping ingredients together, including chopped veggies, herbs, and marinated salmon 4. Add about 1-2 inches of warm water to a large, deep dish, or pie pan. Place one rice wrapper into the water and let soak for just 10-15 seconds. It should still feel pretty firm as you remove it and lay it on your counter or plate – don’t use wood as wrapper will stick to it. 5. In the middle of the wrapper, place one lettuce leaf half. Top with a couple tablespoons rice vermicelli followed by some veggies. Be careful not to overstuff the roll as it will make it harder to roll and more likely to tear. Line 3 portions of salmon in a row next to the filling. Place 2 basil or mint leaves in between it. This is purely decorative. 6. Roll up wrappers carefully and tightly like you would a burrito. Starting with the side away from the salmon, gently pull the bottom of the roll over the first row of filling, then fold in the sides and continue to roll. Repeat process until all spring rolls are assembled. Slice each spring roll in half if desired and garnish with sesame seeds. Serve with the Peanut Sauce.

APPLE CHEDDAR SAGE SCONES By Joanne Headley @theoliveandmango
INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • •
2¼ cups flour 1 tbsp baking powder ¼ cup sugar ½ tsp salt 1 cup grated cheddar cheese (I used white cheddar but any cheddar is fine) plus a little extra for sprinkling over before baking 1 tsp chopped fresh sage (plus 8 extra leaves to decorate tops of scones, optional) 1 stick of cold butter, (100 grams) cut into cubes 2 medium apples, peeled, cored and finely chopped (approx 1 cup) ½ cup cold heavy cream plus more for brushing scones
DIRECTIONS 1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with a parchment paper. 2. Place flour, baking powder and salt, sugar in a food processor and pulse a couple of times to combine. Add the butter and pulse until butter is pea sized and well distributed. Add the cream and pulse until shaggy dough starts to form. 3. Empty out into a large bowl and add the apple, cheddar, and sage, very gently toss the mixture to incorporate into dough. 4. Empty dough onto a clean and lightly floured surface and use your hands to shape it and pat it gently into a 3/4 inch thick circle. Slice into 8 pieces. Transfer to baking sheet and place a sage leaf on each one and brush with cream. Sprinkle a little extra cheese over them if you would like. If the dough has warmed up, stick the baking sheet with scones in the fridge or freezer for 15-20 mins at this stage. 5. Bake for 20-22 min or until golden brown. Once done, remove from oven and using a large spatula transfer scones to cooling rack to cool them then enjoy or if you cant wait like me eat them while they are still warm.

FIG PROSCIUTTO GORGONZOLA AND ARUGULA PIZZA WITH HOT HONEY By Joanne Headley @theoliveandmango
INGREDIENTS For the pizza • ½ lb homemade or store-bought pizza dough • 1 Tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon olive oil • 2 shallots, peeled and thinly sliced • 1 clove of garlic peeled and minced • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme • ½ teaspoon salt • 1/3 cup fig jam • 1-½ oz. Gorgonzola or your favorite blue cheese, crumbled (approx 1/3 cup); more to taste • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice • 2 oz. baby arugula (approx ½ cup) • 2 oz. thinly sliced Prosciutto Di Parma (approx 6-8 slices) • Freshly ground black pepper For the hot honey • ¼ cup honey • 2 teaspoons hot sauce (Cholula or Tabasco work great)
DIRECTIONS For the Pizza 1. Set a pizza stone in the oven and preheat the oven to 500°F. Do this 30 minutes prior to cooking the pizza. 2. Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a medium skillet. Add the shallots, sprinkle with a pinch of salt, and cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until very soft and browned, approx 8-10 minutes. Stir in the garlic and the thyme cook for 30 more seconds then remove from heat. 3. Make the pizza dough or if using store bought remove from fridge and let rest on a lightly floured surface while you prepare the toppings. 4. Line pizza peel with parchment paper or sprinkle a little semolina or regular flour on it. If you don’t have a pizza peel, you can use the back of a rimmed baking sheet or a rimless baking sheet. 5. With your fingers gently stretch press the dough into a circle stretching it as needed so that it’s 10-12 inches. Put it on the peel. 6. Use the back of a spoon to spread the jam over the dough, leaving about a ½-inch border. Sprinkle the shallot garlic thyme mixture over the dough. Sprinkle the blue cheese over that. 7. Transfer the pizza to the hot pizza stone (with the parchment, if using), and bake until the crust is golden brown and the cheese and jam are bubbling and hot, approx 6-8 minutes. 8. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, combine remaining oil and the lemon juice. And toss the arugula with it. For the hot honey 1. Place the honey and hot sauce in a microwave-safe container and microwave for 30 seconds, then stir. (Alternatively, heat the mixture for a few minutes over low heat on the stovetop until combined.) Serve warm. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 3 months. 2. Remove the cooked pizza from the oven. Lay the Prosciutto di Parma over it, and then top with the arugula. Drizzle with hot honey, and crumble on more cheese if you would like, slice, and serve.

NO CHURN CARAMELIZED APRICOT AND LAVENDER ICE CREAM By Joanne Headley @theoliveandmango
INGREDIENTS
DIRECTIONS
• 2 Tbsp butter • 2 cups apricots pitted and chopped into small pieces • 2 Tbsp food grade lavender buds • 2 Tbsp brown sugar • 1 14oz. can sweetened condensed milk • 1 tsp vanilla extract • 1 pinch salt • 2 cups heavy whipping cream • ½ cup of roasted and chopped hazelnuts (optional)
1. Place the butter, chopped apricots and lavender into a skillet and sauté over medium-low for about 3-5minutes, or until the apricots have softened. 2. Add the brown sugar and sauté for about for another 2-5 minutes more, or until juices have reduced to a nice glaze. Set them aside to allow them to cool. 3. Place the sweetened condensed milk into a medium bowl and stir in a pinch of salt. 4. In a separate large bowl of a stand mixer, or using a regular mixer whip the heavy whipping cream to stiff peaks. 5. Add ½ cup of the whipped cream to the sweetened condensed milk. Fold the ingredients together to lighten up the sweetened condensed milk. 6. Add the lightened sweetened condensed milk to the bowl with the whipped cream in three additions and gently fold them together. 7. Pour the whipped ice cream mixture into a 2-quart, freezer safe container. I always use a bread pan. Pour half of the whipped mixture first, top with half of the lavender apricots and the chopped hazelnuts if using, then repeat. 8. Use a thin spatula or knife to lightly swirl the lavender apricots into the whipped ice cream mixture. Do not over stir. 9. Cover the dish with a layer of plastic wrap and then a layer of foil and freeze the ice cream for 8 hours, or until solid, then serve.

How should we handle allergies during this season? Allergies are very common in Central Texas and unlike many places in the world, Texas allergies are a yearround pheromone.…’tis always the season for “seasonal” allergies! Allergies are triggered when the body identifies a substance as potentially dangerous then activates our immune system to defend us. When our immune system responds to a true pathogen such as a virus or bacteria, we’re thankful, but when it responds to grass, cedar, or food we can be miserable. Symptoms vary from mild to severe. Common mild symptoms include itchy eyes & rash, “urticaria”, runny nose and sneezing. For these mild symptoms, treatment at home with antihistamines such as Benadryl can help. More severe symptoms include airway (lip, tongue, throat) swelling, wheezing, vomiting and/or faintness these symptoms require emergent evaluation. Allergies do seem to be increasing in prevalence. One interesting theory is that as our advances in hygiene and surface decontamination are decreasing infant, childhood exposure to true pathogens, our immune systems, primed and bored, are identifying more nonpathogenic substances such as grass, peanuts and pollen as dangerous and thus over reacting to previously inert substances.
Is asthma included in the spectrum of allergies? Asthma is generally included in the spectrum of allergies because the long-term intermittent airway spasm and inflammation tend to be an inappropriately aggressive response to a variety of allergens (pollen, animals, foods etc.…), infection or even simple exertion or cold exposure. Severe asthma exacerbations are those with continued shortness of breath and wheezing unrelieved by albuterol. People experiencing an acute asthma exacerbation should be immediately evaluated. Due to the long-term risks of even mild asthma, close follow-up and chronic medications are frequently necessary. The good news is that, with treatment, even severe asthma is manageable, and in rare cases children with asthma can have complete resolution as they mature and/or are desensitized over time.

What is the best way to avoid sprains and strains? The best way to avoid sprains and strains is through a routine of daily stretching and strengthening exercises. It also helps to appropriately stretch and warm-up immediately prior to physical activity. The appropriate sizing and utilization of sporting and protective equipment is also a great way to avoid getting injured. As a simple example, wearing the appropriately sized and purposed shoe for your activity can save not only your feet but also your knees, hips, and back. Premier can treat all sports injuries from simple sprains and strains to fractures and concussions.

started my love affair with pickleball last summer after watching a group play at the country club. It wasn’t just the smaller court and the shorter net that caught my eye. What really got me attention was how much fun they all seemed to be having. They were cheering and laughing, and the enthusiasm they had for the game was contagious. I wanted in. So I asked if I could join their league, and they welcomed me with open arms. That’s the thing about pickleball that is particularly great: anyone can play. Even if you’ve never played a racket sport, anyone can jump in and get started. There isn’t a steep learning curve with pickleball, so you don’t have to feel intimidated being a beginner. It’s easy to pick up the rules (don’t ask my first pickleball partners about that), but it really is easy, I promise. People of all ages can play. I play with my kids, and in the league I play with adults of all ages, skills, and mobility levels, and people are eager to show a new player the ropes. Another bonus? It’s inexpensive to play. Most paddles are under $100 (or even less), and courts are popping up all over the place. So you don't need to join a club or a league to play. Just find a friend and start dinking. Besides being good exercise, it’s also so fun to play! There’s always laughing in a pickleball match, and there is a great social element to the sport. On-court happy hours are a popular perk of pickleball on the weekends, with players setting up a little snack bar and drink cart. I have met so many new friends through this social sport. Does it get competitive? Of course! But you can find a partner or league to match whatever level you’re at. With the different partners and leagues I have found, some are super competitive and help me hone my skills, and some are casual and give me a few hours of fun and exercise, with less pressure on winning. The fast pace of the game allows for excitement and energy, and yes, again, a lot of laughing, shouting, and cheering. So, if you’ve found yourself wondering, ‘What is pickleball and why do I keep hearing so much about it?’, go find yourself a racket and a ball and try it out. You’ll find out in no time why it’s the fastestgrowing sport in the country.

What is NAD+? Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, aka NAD, is a coenzyme found in all living cells and has even been called the “anti-aging molecule” because of the many important roles it plays in cellular health and function.

“I’m so thankful you recommended NAD IV therapy. You are THE BEST. I wish I started this 20 years ago. Thank you. “ - R.C.
What does NAD+ do? NAD+ can give you more energy, mental clarity and put a pep back in your step! People often describe feeling like brain fog has lifted as well as a sense of calmness throughout the body. IV infusion of NAD+ helps neurons (brain cells) regenerate and protects them against damage. This results in improved cognition, enhanced memory, more mental clarity, and reduction in anxiety and depression. Aside from improved energy and cognition, NAD+ also contributes to healthy metabolism and blood sugar regulation.

Why an IV infusion of NAD+? IV infusion of NAD+ is the only way to ensure that you get 100% absorption. Oral supplements of NAD+ do exist, but it is difficult to ensure full absorption into the cells. Currently, IV infusion of NAD+ is the safest and most efficient way of supplementing the coenzyme in your body. Who can benefit from an NAD+ infusion? NAD+ IV Infusion Therapy may be good for people who struggle with: • Chronic Fatigue • Anxiety • Depression • PTSD • Brain fog • Memory loss • Fibromyalgia • Diabetes • Parkinson’s Disease • Tremors • ADHD

SLOGAN STRAW BAG By Sarah Shrimpton @annaboos_house

1
For a fail-safe template, cut it roughly to shape and then tack it onto the bag.
Don't worry if you don't know how to crochet. Simply find a length of yarn or ribbon and stitch it onto the bag.
2
4
Then, crochet a long chain with your yarn. Don't worry about whether your material will be long enough – as long as you begin stitching it on at the knot-end, you can just keep adding as you need it.
For this example, we decided on Fiesta for the slogan. Rather than go freehand, we printed out a template using an app on my phone (called Pic Collage). We selected the 'King Basil' font.
Supplies Straw bag, yarn, paper, needle, thread
5
Next, lay the chain on your template and stitch through the bag and template using matching cotton thread. You can make short little stitches to keep the slogan secure.
6
Once that is done, carefully tear the template away!
