JULY FOURTH VIEW

Fabulous 4th Celebration

By Chris Murphy

Dance Party Every Weekend

Open Thursday – Saturday

For nearly 150 years, Modesto has had a 4th of July Parade and that continues in 2022. Modesto has one of the longest running 4th of July Parades in the western USA. Even during the pandemic, there was a scaled down parade through 10th St Plaza with a proclamation from Mayor Brandvold. This year, the parade is back and bigger than ever, on the 4th. This year, the Modesto Kiwanis Clubs will be celebrating the life of Terry McGrath and all he did to boost the 4th of July Parade for many years. Terry is a long time Modestan, active in so many things over the years. He was a Road Rebel back in the late 50s when he was Draggin’ 10th, he was notorious for the high volume of tickets, and knocked over the cones when 10th St was made One-way. Terry was a great family man and over the years, with his McGrath Moving and Storage company, he was able to serve Modesto with the Modesto Jaycees, he was a clamper, and was on the Modesto Centennial committee back in 1970. Terry managed the campaign for John Thurman and ran for Board of Supervisors. Terry was a dedicated member of Modesto Kiwanis and was instrumental in taking over the Modesto 4th of July Parade following the end of the Jaycees. Terry was inducted into the Graffiti USA Legends of the Cruise Walk of Fame and is remembered today for all he has done for our community. Terry is survived by his kids, Stephanie, Michael, Katie & Susan and his wife Pat Glattke and first wife Eva McGrath. This 2022 Modesto 4th of July Parade is dedicated to Terry McGrath.
