SCHOOL: Archbishop Moeller is an all-boys Catholic high school (grades 9-12) located in the northeastern suburbs of Cincinnati, OH, that opened in September of 1960. SOCIETY OF MARY: The Society of Mary (Marianists) assists in the staffing of the school, along with a religious sister and dedicated lay men and women. ADMINISTRATION: J. Marshall Hyzdu, President; Blane Collison, Principal; and Carl Kremer, Dean of Students COUNSELING DEPARTMENT: Jennifer Daly, Greg Derus, Jeanie DeTemple (Registrar), Brian Gilronan, Kristen Merica, Paul Ramstetter (Chair) and John Ward AFFILIATIONS: Accreditation by OCSAA, NCEA, and the Marianist Education Consortium FACULTY: 70% of teachers have master’s degrees, with an average of 15 years of experience. PUPIL-TEACHER RATIO: Pupil-teacher ratio is 14:1, and the average class size is 19 students. SCHEDULE: Blocks of 90 minutes: four blocks one day and three the next to accommodate the House System Schedule. The academic year is two traditional semesters. This schedule has been in place since 2001-02 SY. HOUSE SYSTEM: All students are divided vertically among six “Houses,” each of which includes seven Mentor Groups that contains students in grades 9-12. The system allows for more student leadership opportunities, greater attention to pastoral care and enhanced community building.
ACADEMIC COURSE LEVELS: Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Credit (College Credit Plus), Honors, College Prep (CP) I, College Prep (CP) I Level I (Math only) and College Prep (CP) II. STUDENT LIFE: All 886 students at Moeller complete at least 60 hours of community service. During the 2015-16 SY, Moeller students completed 29,110 hours of service. In addition, 76% are currently affiliated with the Catholic Church and more than 86% of the students participate in co-curricular activities. NATIONAL MERIT RECOGNITION: The Class of 2017 currently has three National Merit Scholar Semifinalists (NMSS) and six National Merit Scholar Commended (NMSC) students. The Class of 2016 had two National Merit Scholar Finalist and six NMSC students, which makes a total of 30 Merit finalists and 73 Commended students since 2001. TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION: Moeller has been a leader in the curricular integration of technology, purchasing its first computers in 1984 and pioneering its 1-to-1 computer program in 1995.
