SAVE THE DATE! ON THE ROAD BRAZIL NOV. 9–15, 2023
Moishe House leaders from North America gather at the North American Resident Training Conference (“Natty Con”) held in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin in September 2022.
Emerging Trends in 2022 Rising Demand for In-Person Programming • MH saw a 40% increase in programming in the first half of 2022 (as compared to the first half of 2021), with a noticeable uptick in larger-scale holiday programming. • Through September, all of Moishe House’s program areas have already surpassed the number of unique participants for the entire year of 2021 (50,027 unique participants in 2021; 51,092 January to September 2022)
On the Road is an exclusive opportunity for Moishe House supporters to see incredible young Jewish community builders in action around the world and gain access to members of the Moishe House global network, all while enjoying great food, unique experiences and top notch accomodations. Please consider joining us on our visit to Sao Paulo, Brazil. The visit will coincide and interact with Moishe House’s Latin American Resident Training Conference (“LatiCon”) for our community builders throughout the region. For more information, please email Sr. VP of Global Development Raanan Eliaz (raanan.eliaz@moishehouse.org).
• 36 Peer-Led Retreats have taken place through September. We originally planned for PLRs to be both in-person and virtual, but all applications for PLRs this year have been for in-person gatherings. MH projects that we will host 75 PLRs in 2022 (up from 61 in 2021). • The Moishe Houses and Pods in Ukraine (4 active, 1 closed due to the War) held 147 community building programs so far in 2022 and have volunteered countless hours to deliver vital goods and supplies to the most vulnerable in their communities - efforts that were made possible in part by MH and the MH Ukraine Relief Fund.
Peer-Led Engagement Works! • 1,300+ community members participated in our 2022 internal evaluation, which showed that peer leadership has a trickle-down effect as even participants become more confident in their leadership skills: Respondents’ confidence in leading some aspects of Jewish rituals, traditions and customs increased by 50%, from 36% prior to 54% now.
Our Base Movement opened two new flagship locations this summer in Oakland and Denver. Moishe House also launched Based-In, our pilot cohort of part-time rabbis who will engage Jewish young adults in Jewish life and lead pastoral care in Ann Arbor, Boston, NYC and Philadelphia.
• MH is also deepening Jewish young adults’ connections to their local communities respondents reported that their connections to local communities increased by 68%, from 41% prior to involvement in MH to 69% now. The Jewish Learning Collaborative is revolutionizing the role of Jewish learning in organizations across the Jewish community, enables professionals and board members to engage in 1:1 personalized Jewish learning on a regular basis. From January through September, the JLC has had:
The Need for Community Building in the Ukrainian and Russian Diaspora is Rapidly Increasing • The War in Ukraine has fueled emigration from Ukraine and Russia to other parts of the world, including Israel. MH Haifa – RSJ and MH Tel Aviv – RSJ have seen additional new and hopeful olim from Ukraine and Russia joining their communities. • New MH locations are continuing to emerge throughout Eastern and Central Europe, including a planned expansion location in Tbilisi, which will be led by two young adults who recently left Russia.
MH Kyiv gathered community members for a lively Shabbat dinner in June 2022.
