Hi!

Welcome to this evaluation report of Nottingham Sports Groups (NSG) first event, a football tournament on the Forest Recreation Ground on the 24th and 25th of August 2013. This report aims to present information about who we are, what we do, how and why we do it. The goal of the tournament was to bring together different communities and unite them through sports, physical recreation, competitiveness and networking in an attempt to increase social cohesion. Our motto is ‘communities united through sports and physical recreation’. NSG is a gathering of people, especially from new and emerging communities living in Nottingham, with a passion for sports and physical activity. There is great value in people working together to organise events that benefits the whole community. We would like to thank all our volunteers (over 20) for giving their time and energy to organise and manage the event. This report records and promotes their achievements! Volunteerism is a key value of our group so if you are interested in knowing more about NSG or helping us then read on and contact us for more information about how you can be involved. NSG is looking forward to the 2014 Summer Football Tournament at the Forest Recreation Ground.

Summer Weekend Football Tournament Saturday & Sunday 24th & 25th August 2013 10am - 6pm The Forest Recreation Ground The annual 7-aside FOOTBALL Tournament held on Saturday & Sunday, 24th & 25th August 2013, 10am-6pm, on the Forest Recreation Ground was an overwhelming success. The tournament aimed: • to bring communities together, to build sustainable social cohesion by encouraging networking, sharing and working cooperatively • to enable communities to participate in sports and recreation to encourage physical and mental wellbeing • to build confidence, selfesteem and movement away from negativity by having fun and adventure • to promote local businesses by showcasing the local economy as a first point to purchasing goods and services

These aims were, according to our evaluation, successfully delivered, thanks to the active participation of the 250 or so footballers, the match officials, the many spectators, parents, sponsors, stallholders, music man, the young women presenters, the groundsmen, parents, families, friends of NSG, and many others, too many to mention here. Everton Richards used his erstwhile professionalism to project manage the event. Saturday, was aimed at adult teams, players over 16 years. Ten teams of 14 players, 140 footballers, applied their skills and experiences to display Nottingham’s finest amateurs. Competition for the Winners Cup and Trophies was fierce with no guarantee or certainties about the winner. After the five heats, Gambia & Nigeria B were the finalists. The finals was a fast moving action packed match of two giants. After penalty shootouts, Nigeria B won. The Sunday event was aimed at the youths (young people below 16 years). On the day teams of mixed ages and abilities vied for a place in the finals. Gambia and Cavaliers reached the finals. Gambia won the youth tournament.

Ten teams, of 14 players, listed above participated in the tournament. The winner was NIGERIA B. Thank you very much indeed for your active participation. A big shout out goes to the players, managers, coaches and fans for making the tournament a safe and peaceful day out for the whole family. Many of you, footballers, have indicated how much you enjoyed the opportunities to work with other teams, to test your skills in a local bout and that the event was more about signifying, participating on the day, rather than winning. Thank you and see you in 2014 @ the SUMMER WEEKEND FOOTBALL IN THE FOREST event.

Youth Tournament

Sunday Youth Tournament Another great day out. The Gambian youngsters and FC Cavaliers (Hyson Green) played in the finals. The decision to declare the Gambian team winner of the Youth tournament was a collective effort to make sure that the youths were not asked to play another match. The young people were tired and some of them (on both teams) thought that a penalty shootout was not test enough to decide on the best team. So the winner, Gambia, were declared based on highest number of goals scored rather than points.

managers your contributions are valuable to us and we hope you will continue working with us in future events. The matches were safe as our first-aiders were able to handle inhouse the incidents which occurred. A wonderful spirit of working collectively and sorting issues without negative escalation. Thanks to all of you for helping to ensure that the Nottingham Sports Group is ready to be a great way of bringing young people together for common good in the interest of individuals, groups and the general public.

Congratulations to all the Youth Teams that took part, you were awesome on the day. Thank you to the parents, supporters and the crowd in the park who took in the matches, your encouragement really helped the youths to stay focused and successfully compete. A very special thank you goes out to the all the team coaches and
