vol 3 3/3 monokroma
Monokroma has reached its third year. As growing company, we see opportunities from varies projects to learn new techniques, to create innovation, and to bring up new perspectives in architecture. Every project is created as the result of dialogues, between principal and his junior, between architect and the client, even between architect and the context. The discussions bear ideas for spaces, details, and massing. This year, we have a lot opportunities to learn and to create either from built or unbuilt project. It is a privilege to connect with new clients or get along with former clients. The most imporant thing is we serve with our best and keep maximizing our potency.

This is a renovation project for a house that was designed by our principal. This house belongs to one of Indonesia’s Army members. The owner required more rooms in the house. Their children used to be in one room. As they are growing, they need larger space. So our main project is to provide one more children room and renovate their bathroom. The other rooms they wanted are extended master bedroom, living room, front guest room, and two outdoor gathering area.
exterior view
We designed the front living room as the additional box of the facade. It is built of the glass wall which has steel frame for each modul which some of them can be opened. The outdoor gathering areas are designed, covered by a glass canopy, to keep the indoor spaces showered by the sunlight. Every extended spaces are designed by considering the location of the opening to enlight the rooms.

Cinere house is owned by a pilot. It was designed by other consultant. But as the budget becomes one of the issue, we are assigned to redesign the house with the lower budget. We also redesigned the interior layout in oder to decrease the cost. We maintain the former massing of the house and the function.

At first we maintain the trapezoidal masing which fill the site. But in the end we cut the corner room creating the mass into rectangle form. It had glass wall in the ground floor but then we try to minimalized the opening and maintain the void only for the car and people entrance.

The challenge was to create the facade to cennect the massing of the main building and the service. We also asked to consider how can the facade not only aestheticly good but also able to give enough lighting for the rooms insides. We also considered the kinds of materials to create robustness from the outside.

The brief for Palm Ratu House is to renovate and combine three family houses, by preserving all functions yet in more order spaces and circultaion for the family. For this project we use tropical house style to decide the materials, details, and the forms. Stones, wood dominate the material of the design for the house.

Banjarbaru landed houses was a design proposal for a competition which was held by Angkasa Pura as the extended fascilities for airport community. We were assigned to design master plan and the sold units which consists of shop houses, house for general manager and managers, one stories houses, and two stories houses.
We design the masterplan through some consideration. First, we consider how to accomodate the require number of the units. Second, we try to give the opportunity for the user to enjoy the wider vista along the alley. We also consider the equal opportunities to face the alley for the sold shophouses.
The design idea for each units are adopted from the traditional house of Banjar, Bubungantinggi. We adopt the silhouette of Bubungantinggi and try to transform it to architectural elements such as plates, volume, and line. We combined the element with boxes or with one another

This project was designed as the new headquarter of Saka Agung Abadi, one of the biggest distributor company in Bali. It requires three divided massings; branch office accomodating the marketing staffs and customers service, meeting hall, and the head office for the director and the main staffs. As the first step of the exploration we tried some arrangement for the three masses.
The design was also affected by the rules of the Balinese traditional house, which consists of head, body, and feet. We construct the elements with some arrangement such as creating the hanged body on the feet, and breaking the feet, body, and the head cantilevering from one another.
In the final design, we create the gates from the feet element of the branch office. The mass of branch office is located in the front, the meeting room in the middle, and the head office in the back. We also used the simplified traditional ornament for the beam and the column for each building.

The concept of the design facade is based on the rule of Balinese traditional house with head, body, and feet. In former design the feet became the major part of the facade. To make the impression a bit lighter, in this design, we break the feet part in to two part. The feet should be the heavier using large size and heavy material like lime stone, coral stone.
The proportion of the head is maintained to keep the balance of the whole facade. The entrance is signed by a large and high canopy with brighter color, which is also functionated as the vocal point of the design.

The given assignment for Labuan Bajo Airport is to design the extension terminal and some supporting building. The first passanger terminal was designed by other architect consultant, the design was inspired by the local character. Labuan Bajo is well known with its beaches as main tourism object and the Pulau Komodo which reserves komodo, the rare animal. Inspired by the exotic beaches there and the dinamic form of the komodo as the local character, the passanger terminal was designed in curvy form, using metal and glass material considering the maintanance and sustainability issue for the airport.

While the extension terminal was designed following the curvy line of the first terminal, they are seperated by a open garden which is functionated as the consession area where the waiting passanger could do shopping and eating. This area was filled with the trafditional huts of the local people. The departure gate was designed as open plan. It is to anticipate the overload passanger if the planes delay. -The design for supporting building is in one theme with the main terminal. The curvy roof is placed above the block massing of each function.
Labuan Bajo Airport is still under development for some of the supporting buildings. The following design is planned to be started after the construction of some others finished. The trampoline are was a proposal for a new commercial program in Serpong Area. It is located in strategic area, to accomodate activities that’s in majority used by youth. The design was started by creating a mass which is functionated as retail and cafe on the first floor, and trampoline arena on the second floor. The main opening is located in the corner of the mass which is often seen from the main road. The cafe and retail are also located linear with the main road. The main entrance is placed in the midst of them.

The trampoline arena itself is designed as a giant form placed on the second level. It is built from widespan structure like a giant storage with minimum opening on the wall and roof. The space around the main arena is functionated for lockers and ticketing area.

We are then taking part to propose design which and ressurect the old PFN. We plan to design a new concept which can provide the public spaces to involve and entertain more people in the movie production. With the idea from term “box office“, we arrange composision of massings to accomodate function responding the context. There are studio office, cinema, museum which preserve the old office building ,shops, banquet hall, hotel, mosque,
outdoor studio, drop-off area, plaza, outdoor cafes. We design path that enable people accessed the public spaces and enjoy the movie production and the process without disturbing the main process of movie production.

: Intiland : Aeropolis Residence
In this project, we are asked to design the signage of Aeropolis Complex. The signage system of Aeropolis consists of street sign, traffic sign, building & fascility sign, and pedestrian wayfinding and information. The idea of the design is to create an irresgular form of the signage, considering the building style in Aeropolis are designed in regular form and in order. The form itself is intended to be eye catching and easy to find in the middle of the crowd.
sinage design (above); design exploration (below)
As we decided the form, we choose the type of font, the size, the material of the signage, and the color. For the material we choose Aluminium Composite Panel, considering the easy maintanance criteria. We also choose bright and pop color to make it easy to find, and bring more young and playful vibe around the area.

In this project, Intiland held a tender to design the Lobby of Residence 3 in Aeropolis complex. Aeropolis Residence is addressed for the commmunity of aviation as it is located closed to Soekaarno Hatta International Airport. Aeropolis Residence 3 is still under development. The assignment is to design 1 main lobby, 1 smaller lobby, 2 community room in 3rd and 4th floor, elevator foyer, and signage. We designed the lobby with pop color as it is the given theme with a long bench so it can be functionate to accomodate many people as they are waiting. The bench was proposed to be customated and divided in to some part.

As the budget is limited we try to explore the design. We also used mural to decorate the wall, and the TL formed by diamond shape hollow steel for the lighting. For the elevator foyer and signage for units we also used mural and painting. For the community room we also used the long bench in different color completed with LCD for the information panel. The irregular shape of the bench and other elements are from the logo of Aeropolis which has sharp corners.
