FIA2 Jacob W Experimental Folio

Reflective statement • • • •

My experimental folio was of a camera lens. I decided to explore the lens through different medias along with different lenses that were discussed and investigated in class. Focused on different details shown on the lens throughout the use of alcohol markers and digital drawings. My personal connection to this object is though the use of it, I can capture different moments in time by using different angels and techniques. The reference artist for my folio was Sandra Selig because of her subtle but meaning fall artworks like her Heart of the air that you can hear painting.

Supporting Evidence The research that was conducted for the first experimental artwork was just trying to find something that I have a personal connection with to use as the focal object for this whole folio. The next item to look at would be ways to communicate and shows my object that I chose which was a camera lens, I decided to go with photography as the first method because it allows for the object to be seen as it is and with no major changes to it. The only representation for this artwork is the chosen media method used to convey the object and its meaning about capturing different details. Sandra Selig was the artist I chose to look at while developing my ideas and saw some of her artworks that conveyed having a deeper meaning than what is it displayed as, this is shown through her be some other material artwork which shows a meaning by using lights to illuminate shapes onto the wall inside of a dark workspace.

Supporting Evidence The research that was done for the second experimental artwork was looking at what other people have done with digital art along with doing some quick sketches to understand how the app I used works and the different features that I can use with it. I then just did some quick tracing over some images to get use to tracing an image on an app that I haven’t used or had before so I could understand the concept before tracing over my image that I took of the chosen object.

A quick drawing to help me understand the app and the features A drawing to help me understand tracing on the app

Supporting Evidence The research conducted for the third experimental was canvas sizes along with if paint markers will stick to the canvas. The research that was also conducted was just some artworks using paint makers to see what people have been able to create with them and to see the paint markers will stick to a layer of paint. I didn’t have any practice except for drawing lines on paper before using the markers for my third artwork but I did end up learning to use them so now I can use them in the future for new folios and for any artworks I wish to create.

Supporting Evidence The research conducted for the final experimental was ways to ease into the pens with no prior practice. I did end up getting practice just by scribbling with them onto a blank piece of paper to understand the stroke technique and how much pressure to use while drawing with the pens. I used the pens to help illustrate a new viewpoint of the lens by using simple colours that resembled the lens colours on the paper that is made for the pens.

Three tester pages to get use to the pens
