Pre-Prep

Igniting their curiosity

Igniting their curiosity. Unlocking their potential. Shaping their future.

TELL ME MORE ABOUT IT? Highly-qualified teachers in a state-of-the-art facilities will ignite your child’s passion for learning in this Queensland Government Approved Kindergarten Programme. Students will engage in a rich inquiry-based programme that encourages children to investiagate and learn about the world around them. Essential pre-literacy and pre-numeracy skills are embedded within each and every day. Students enjoy access to specialist teachers in Music, PE, Visual Arts, Library and RE; and have the option to attend additional activities such as swimming and gymnastics.

IS THE PROGRAMME CO-EDUCATIONAL OR SINGLE SEX? The programme is co-educational. While the Moreton Bay Colleges will continue to be leaders in single-sex education from Prep to Year 12; research suggests a mixed-gender education model is best practice for children in the 3-4-year-old age group. Pre-Prep is a stepping stone to Prep at Moreton Bay College (MBC) or Moreton Bay Boys’ College (MBBC).

Learning Mindfully

HOW DOES IT DIFFER TO A COMMUNITY OR LONG DAY CARE KINDERGARTEN? Joining The Moreton Bay Colleges in Pre-Prep is the start of an educational journey. The same children attend each day, so they see familiar faces and have a settled routine. The journey is also important for the families. Parents build connections with families who become lifelong friends as their children progress through their schooling years together. Belonging to a caring and respectful community builds confidence and trust for children and their families. A range of learning experiences are delivered through intentional teaching opportunities and hands-on play-based experiences. The learning programme is a child-centred approach, with educators planning for

and observing children as they identify opportunities to challenge and engage them in small groups and individually. As an approved Kindergarten programme, The Moreton Bay Colleges’ Pre-Prep Programme follows the Queensland Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines, is also based upon the principles outlined in the Australian Government’s Early Years Learning Framework and aligns with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. Each child’s strengths and interests are the focus of the educators’ observations. The educators work with the children, families, and other specialist teachers to collaboratively plan for natural inquiry within individual and group learning. Experiences are child-initiated and child-directed, with the educators providing resources and support where necessary so that children are guided through their own wonderings and learning.

As The Moreton Bay Colleges’ Pre-Prep is located on the expansive Moreton Bay College grounds, the children can access a variety of high-quality learning spaces and facilities.

IS THE PROGRAMME FULL-TIME? The Pre-Prep programme is full-time and operates from 8.30am - 2.30pm five days a week. The programme follows the same term dates as MBC and MBBC. Our new Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) Centre and is conveniently located right next door to our Pre-Prep Centre to accommodate students outside of core programme times.

Stepping Stone to Prep

Purpose Built Learning Spaces

WHAT DOES THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT LOOK LIKE? The commencement of 2023 will mark the official opening of our expanded Pre-Prep Centre, featuring two additional new purpose-built learning spaces. We have been working closely alongside the architects, Bickerton Masters, to create a space that is strongly connected to the land and encourages collaborative learning.

ROOM TO GROW Our new Pre-Prep learning spaces will seamlessly blend the inside and outside learning environment, with a child-centred, inquiry approach that fosters children’s agency in a flexible learning space.

ROOM TO CREATE The design also offers a purposebuilt Atelier (art studio) and a kitchen garden space. The children will be able to explore, discover, create and engage with the world around them.
