IA3 – PHASE 3 ART AS ALTERNATE By Charlie P
My focus: My body of work focus’s on the relationship that an adolescent teenager in the modern day has with life, using colour, lighting and space to create a flowing but claustrophobic atmosphere in my paintings. The materials allowed me to experiment with both the environment and the characters within my artworks. I wanted to view the life of a teenager from a relatable angle, to which not many people nor media outlets explore. It’s become a vital acknowledgement to understand life from this angle, especially being this age myself. Besides using traditional media such as acrylic paint and canvas’s, I also wanted to create character and environment designs using digital software, pushing the ideologies of what is perceived in a single canvas.

Artist Statement For the body of work, I wanted to focus on a single character that I named Bo (which is an non-binary name). It’s become a vital acknowledgement to understand life from this angle, especially being this age myself. Not only did I want to focus on the character Bo in 5 different canvas’s exploring her daily activities, but I also wanted to explore objects, environments, memories and other characters that she might interact with.
