IA3 PHASE 3 -ART AS ALTERNATE Ella J
FOCUS FROM ENQUIRY PHASE 1:
ANNOTATED RESOLVED WORK FROM INQUIRY PHASE 2
ARTIST STATEMENT • Throughout the art as alternate unit, us as artists were able to challenge our own art making practices by researching and developing processes in which we could use to explore different practices that we could use for our pieces. In collaboration with one of my fellow students, Alexia stavrou, we were able to create multiple pieces that explored our own personal aesthetics yet exploring ideas of interest. Whilst exploring through a lens of the 21st century of art and ideas, we decided to focus solely on music, particularly pop artists. The interaction between the audience and artist was vital, creating pieces that the audience are able to understand which music artists we are referring to, creating an overall connection to each piece. In order to express our alternate lens, using a different canvas, in which we had both never used before, helped to push ourselves out of out comfort zone to explore new ideas and works. Plain skateboards were used as our camvas, which helped to enhance the overall vibe we chose to aim for, which was alternate pop music. We used symbolism to express similar objects that relate to the chosen music artists albums, which helped to use different ranges of colour choices. Artists such as Joe Dolack, and Lexi bruno inspired us with their colour choices, as well as their focus towards music artists similar to the ones we chose. Use of colour was a key component to consider when designing the boards.Vibrant oranges, blues, greens and more were used to capture the feeling of each album. These colours were left with a flat look, rather then much tone and shape to each one. This type of practice is commonly used when painting pop art like pieces.
