We can’t start this issue without mentioning the situation in Ukraine. I can’t even begin to imagine what the people there have been going through. I know we all want to do anything we can to help, I believe Government advice at the moment is that the best way to help is through cash donations through reputable charities like Save the Children or Unicef. I’ve also seen some amazing people in Bury St Edmunds are sponsoring guests from Ukraine, a lifeline to those forced to flee their homes. You can find out more about the Homes for Ukraine Scheme here: www.homesforukraine.campaign.gov.uk

FROM PETER THOMPSON, MAYOR
difficult to know what we can do to directly help, however I am pleased to be able to highlight some examples of the difference you really can make. Shortly after news of the invasion came to light, I was contacted by local West Suffolk Hospital nurse Ana Lampreira who was organising a donation drive. I was able to grease the wheels a little with some contacts I had made in preparation for the Volunteer Hub and we linked up with Moreton Hall Youth Action Group, managing to fill the Youth Centre with donations for those refugee civilians on the Ukraine/Poland border. I had a contact at local trucking

Moreton Hall
There is a huge amount of background work and Roly Hollings was able to sort export licenses for the donations and Leon Edwards and his youth volunteers were able to help Ana sort and box donations ready for shipping. None of this background work is easy and people often forget the practicalities of moving goods, even if they are humanitarian, across borders and through Europe. Lastly, I’d like to thank each and every individual who made donations to the cause - every little piece has gone to a truly amazing cause.
I’d like to highlight the subject of litter in our area. As ever, please use the provided bins across our town. That said, there remain plenty of people who just don’t care about our town and litter is a perpetual problem. I’d like to shine a light on some work being done by Samuel Everett as part of his Duke of Edinburgh. He is splitting Moreton Hall up (and wider Bury St Edmunds) into chunks and hitting them with a big litter picking blitz. Let me know any problem areas and we can point Sam at them. I’m sure you’ll join me congratulatinginhis work and wishing him well in his volunteering.
Moving forwards, government recommendation is to donate monetarily if you wish to continue to help via charities such as UNICEF.
A Little Pick Me Up
I’ve had multiple reports of the bridge across the A14 at Shakers Lane being messy and slippy. I’ve had it swept and cleaned and some brambles cut back and hopefully this makes it a bit hitsaferandattractivemorecertainlyaswespring.

ANOTHER LITTLE PICK ME UP
I think it goes without saying that we have all been moved by the events over the last weeks across Ukraine. Regardless of the politics and the megalomania, the most striking thing is the humanitarian fallout from war and we have all seen images of civilians and children attacked, displaced and murdered. It is a small leap to imagine these events happening in our own country. The response from our community and everyone across Suffolk has been Itphenomenal.issometimes

The Residents’ Association is always on the lookout for new volunteers to participate in our activities and give their views on what affects Moreton Hall whether it be litter, parking issues, planning applications, traffic problems. We meet every two months at the community centre and are seeking a mix of ages to provide a better cross section of the Community here on Moreton Hall. If you are interested or know any one who is then contact either Cliff ansecretarymhra@gmail.comRobertcliffhind2001@yahoo.co.ukHindorHoulton-Hartforinformaldiscussion.
Platinum Jubilee Weekend
The Residents Association exists to listen to Residents Concerns, and to liaise with local councillors and local authorities and gets consulted over issues that affect Moreton Hall, recent examples include the Public Space Protection Order and the proposed inclusion of Lark Grange into Moreton Hall Ward on Bury Town Council and consultation on major planning applications on Moreton Hall.

The government has published guidance on organising a street party and also has a Platinum Jubilee Website which includes an interactive map which will display all the events and activities that will be taking police right across the UK. The map is open for anyone to add their events and everyone is encouraged to upload any events and activities they may be planning to mark the organising-a-street-partywww.gov.uk/government/publications/your-guide-to-Jubilee.also,www.platinumjubilee.gov.uk
LATEST NEWS
The draft proposal to transfer Lark Grange to Bury Town Council go before West Suffolk Council on the 22nd March and shows only the Lark Grange Houses transferring. What are your views about including the whole area up to Sow Lane and not just the houses? Assuming the report is approved at that meeting then public consultation with residents and others will take place between April and June. The final recommendations will be considered at the full council meeting in September 2022.

It has been a busy time at Hardwick as children and staff dressed up to celebrate the 25th anniversary of World Book Day, then, donning robes and armed with swords and shields, pupils from Years 5 and 6 were transported back in time to the world of the Ancient Greeks enjoying a workshop by ‘Portals to the Past’ and learning all about Ancient Greek life, which is their history topic for this half-term.

depart, one of the first signs of spring in March is the Ash and the Venerable Oak, beginning to swell their buds. While the Silver Birch and Alder are the first to show their leaves.
As humans we are designed to be outside in the woods; just to listen to the wind, just to be. Reconnecting individuals with the healing power of nature has been at the heart of the Green Light Trust almost since the beginning.

It’s time for a Nature fix
frosty mornings
As the wood anemones give way to a riot of colour on the woodland floor and the Bluebells erupt into a sea of gentle drifts wave upon wave with their intoxicating aroma in early April -May. The queen bee prepares the colony to get ready to be busy; and other insects emerge to enjoy the warming rays. Birds fill the air with their tuneful songs as they look for a partner and prepare their nest for offspring. Spring is well on its way. It makes you feel better just to get out and take in mother nature’s rich tapestry.
Our courses, run in woodlands across Suffolk and now Norfolk, help reconnect individuals with nature, themselves and each other.

Being close to nature just feels good. We know this instinctively. However, the science is now unquestionably there to back this feeling up. Studies have shown that spending time in woodland settings reduces stress and lowers anxiety.

Thousands of adults and children have benefitted from working with us and found a renewed love of nature. Our focus is about supporting those in our society who face the highest barriers and have least access to green space. We know that those individuals who are the most nature deprived derive the greatest benefit from the healing power of nature.

Maybe this spring it’s time to embrace forest bathing, something the Japanese have long advocated as part of the toolkit for good health and wellbeing (or shinrin yoku). Japanese doctors even prescribe forest bathing to redress the balance from the fast pace of urban living and the stress that results. Taking in the signs and smells of woodlands to connect with nature really helps us to leave the worries of a troubled world behind. Taking a woodland stroll lowers cortisol and high blood pressure and can relieve stress and anxiety. Getting out into the spring woodland sunshine helps reduce the pressures of everyday life. Takes you out of yourself in this fast-paced connected world. Our ancient ancestors lived in the woodland environment and our brains have evolved over thousands of years to know this place as home. It’s no wonder we feel so relaxed after a walk in the woods. It is time to say goodbye to dark, dreary winter days and look forward to the possibilities of spring. The sights and smells bring us hope, as the

Bury Water Meadows Group will be hosting a BioBlitz on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st May 2022 in Bury St Edmunds, as part of a series of events celebrating 1,000 years since the founding of St. Edmunds Abbey by King Canute.

With the help of school children, members of the public, skilled naturalists and partner organisations, the Bury Water Meadows Group are looking to build on our existing knowledge of the species that visit or reside within the bounds of the Abbey Precinct. The focus areas within the Abbey Precinct include the Abbey Gardens, the Great Churchyard, and the water meadow areas known as the Crankles and No Man’s Kingfishers,Meadows.
Precinct for the benefit of wildlife, we are also keen to discover more about which members of lesser-known groups are contributing to the intricate web of life in this historic site.
hedgehogs and bee orchids are among familiar favourite species which may be spotted by regular and observant visitors. As management efforts are increasingly focused on improving habitats within the Abbey
to gather observations and share your records with us and would encourage you to stop by at the BioBlitz hub zone in the Abbey Gardens to meet with other naturalists and help members of the public with identifying their own observations. 75g sultanas
Heat oven to 220C/200C fan/gas 7. Mix 75g plain flour with about 5 tbsp water to make the paste for the cross – add the water 1 tbsp at a time, so you add just enough for a thick paste. Spoon into a piping bag with a small nozzle. Pipe a line along each row of buns, then repeat in the other direction to create crosses. Bake for 20 mins on the middle shelf of the oven, until golden brown.
With the dough still in the bowl, tip in 75g sultanas, 50g mixed peel, zest of 1 orange, 1 finely chopped apple and 1 tsp ground cinnamon. Knead into the dough, making sure everything is well distributed. Leave to rise for 1 hr more, or until doubled in size,
1 tsp salt
Divide the dough into 15 even pieces (about 75g per piece). Roll each piece into a smooth ball on a lightly floured work surface. Arrange the buns on one or two baking trays lined with parchment, leaving enough space for the dough to expand. Cover (but don’t wrap) with more oiled cling film, or a clean tea towel, then set aside to prove for 1 hr more.

For the cross
300ml full-fat milk, plus 2 tbsp more
Bring 300ml full-fat milk to the boil, then remove from the heat and add 50g butter. Leave to cool until it reaches hand temperature. Put 500g strong bread flour, 1 tsp salt, 75g caster sugar and 7g sachet fast-action or easy-blend yeast into a bowl. Make a well in the centre. Pour in the warm milk and butter mixture, then add 1 beaten egg. Using a wooden spoon, mix well, then bring everything together with your hands until you have a sticky dough.

Tip on to a lightly floured surface and knead by holding the dough with one hand and stretching it with the heal of the other hand, then folding it back on itself. Repeat for 5 mins until smooth and elastic. Put the dough in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with oiled cling film and leave to rise in a warm place for 1 hr or until doubled in size and a finger pressed into it leaves a dent.

I have noticed that some people with dirty registration plates have been pulled over by the police, I understand that it is an offence to have dirty number plates, if they cannot be read from 30 metres and you could end up with a fine. Just a quick clean could save you pounds.
It’s a shame that when it rains, the path to the rear of Sebert Wood School ends up as a no-go area for children and parents. The rain runs off onto the path and has nowhere to go so it builds up. I wonder if there is a solution to fix this, for the sake of the children, just a thought.

APRIL’S LOOK AT THE FASHION WORLD
We have loads more ideas at ecofrenzy.com to help our wonderful world. Remember our mantra at Ecofrenzy is a lot of little actions add up to a big action, this is the perfect example.
In the UK, we throw out £400,000 worth of clothes per day, that is around 700 garments every minute adding up to about 1 million tonnes of waste a year and much of this ends up in landfill and incinerators.

The fashion world has a CO2 imprint of about 1 billion tonnes per year, more than all airlines and shipping companies put together
4
ecofrenzy15 @ecofrenzy /ecofrenzy
3
At garment level we make 2 billion pairs of jeans per year and the production of each pair uses 8,000 litres of water with a CO2 imprint of around 33kg. When you think that an average person in UK uses 133 litres of water a day that’s equivalent to 60 days of water for one pair of jeans and the CO2 equivalent to running 5 LED spot lights for 143 days.
Last month I mentioned that we would take a closer look at electric cars in this article. Hope you don’t mind, but instead, I am going off on a bit of a tangent. Last night I was watching ‘The Apprentice’ on BBC 1 and one of the candidates was pitching her business idea to Alan Sugar’s hench men and women. Her plan was to sell second hand children’s designer clothes through an app. Now although I do not understand the concept of designer clothes, I love the idea of re-using outgrown or discarded garments. This set me thinking that we have not looked at the fashion industry in detail for years, so it’s about time we did. We will come back to electric cars at a later date.
Of course I appreciate that fashion and looking good are important for many people, but as we all know, money is tight, the world is creaking, climate change is biting, and the environment is failing. If there is one thing you take from this article then please let it be: how can I prolong the life of my clothes. Just think if we all kept of our favourite garment for another year, how much money would we save, how our CO2 imprint would be a little lower, and how our water consumption would reduce.
EcoFrenzy is a not-for-profit organisation founded by Tony Whittingham. If you have any queries please visit www.ecofrenzy.com/contact-us or email tony@ecofrenzy.com
It is also responsible for huge habitat destruction as we use vast volumes of pesticides and water to grow the materials to make clothes, for example the cotton industry uses 25% of the world’s pesticides and herbicides which have a significant effect on our environment.
Below are a few facts about the industry that are shocking:

I have every experienced has been around the time of Easter. We still have a number of pictures of the church covered in snow on Easter Day.
That hope has sustained Europe for nearly two thousand years and most of the rest of the world for nearly one thousand. It sustains us too. There is a God in Heaven; nothing is impossible for Him; the kings of the world will ultimately be judged and brought to justice by Him and, even in the darkest moments when all hope is gone, the resurrection teaches us that light, hope and truth will triumph as Christ did. Therefore, everybody, please continue in your prayers, continue in your good works of supporting the Ukrainians, and above all, do not lose hope.

are startling but at least this time round the West has acted quickly in sending supplies to the beleaguered Ukrainians which they did not do for the Czechs. They also have not colluded with the partition of their country which is what the Western powers did in 1938. All this bodes well for the future. However, the probability of this escalating, or us returning to some form of collective cold war where certain countries ally themselves against Russia and other countries ally themselves with Russia, is a real possibility. Having come through the bleakness of Covid19, things are very dark Inindeed.thesuccession of seasons that make up a year spring is supposed to be a time of opportunity and hope and yet, although the days are getting longer, some of the

It is often true that the darkest moments are just before the dawn. Certainly this is the feature of the story of the resurrection. When Jesus died on the cross for his disciples and followers, who had seen Him do such wonderful things and expected so much for Him and from Him, their devastation was complete. Not only had they lost the wonderful Prophet, the doer of great works, the teacher of great things, but they had lost a close personal friend, a man who loved them more than anybody else and, like anyone suffering bereavement, their loss was Therefore, catastrophic.itwas without any hope whatsoever that the women gathered at the tomb and saw the stone had been rolled away. It was also in complete disbelief that Peter and John ran to the empty tomb and looked inside.

The cross with the violets is an embossed card posted to Sudbury in 1909, thanking Mrs Smith for the flowers and letter, and promising a letter soon.

Judith Rye’s examples shown here reflect the days of the Golden Age of postcard collecting when religion and the observance of religious festivals was much more important to people. It was especially so for those working as servants in big houses, as they would be allowed time off to return home to visit their families.
The Easter thought card was given ‘to my darling daughter, with all my love, God bless you, Mum’ but not postally used.

an hour when the Ukrainian appeal first launched. A fund that soon topped over £150,000,000. What’s more, over 100,000 people in the UK have offered to open their homes to refugees. Which is nothing compared with what the Poles have done Asalready.thisDirectory reminds us, we are now approaching Easter, a festival that commemorates another truly disturbing event. The crucifixion of Jesus, God’s only son. On the cross, Jesus took upon himself the sin of every person who ever lived.

But in the midst of such pain and injustice, we have also been moved by the dignity of President Zelensky. A comedian who has somehow metamorphosised into a world class statesman. We’ve also been astonished by the courage of ordinary Ukrainians, who within only a month, have turned themselves into an army, and held off a superpower. All of which we have watched on TV, wondering if our country could be doing more to help. Personally, I feel that we have been like people watching a mugging. Wanting to help the victim, but reluctant to get involved, for fear of being hurt ourselves. And so, we have

The news throughout March has been the most disturbing that I can remember. I’ve watched a lot of it through tears. The indiscriminate shelling of Ukrainian cities has been truly inhuman. Especially the destruction of so many homes. As I write, 3.5 million people have fled to neighbouring countries. Can you imagine what it must feel like to emigrate so suddenly, carrying only a suitcase and your children?
of the death of Jesus came the resurrection. His miraculous rising from the dead. Proving that God really can offer us life after death. Which is why believers all over the world love to celebrate Easter.

COACHES CORNER – FIRST TEE NERVES
Facebook: Adam Trett - ADT Golf Coaching

Are you a person that gets a little nervous on the first tee or when you have an important shot to hit during a round?
The first and best way to help you focus on the shot in hand is to have a pre shot routine. Having this process in your game will allow you to treat any shot within your round the same, so whether it’s a straight forward chip shot or a putt to win a competition your pre shot routine will help to make sure there are no outside distractions that could hinder your performance.
Welcome back to the 19th hole… it’s that time of the year that us golfers have dreamt about, it’s THE MASTERS this month.

Everyone is different in what they like to do and think about before hitting each shot, below I have highlighted a few areas that might help you plan YOUR best pre shot routine.
In this stage you have to considering a lot of different things:LieClub
THINKING & PLANNING

Email: adamtrettpga@hotmail.co.uk
You have planned the shot out and made your rehearsals so now its time to TRUST the plan and yourself. Take a couple deep breaths in through your nose and slowly exhale through your mouth or nose. This will ease the tension in your body getting you ready to perform.
During these rehearsals try and picture the shot in your minds eye. Make this image as detailed as possible, the more elements of the shot you can clearly see the better your rehearsals will be.
