The Reel Club is a friendly group of Scottish country dancers who welcome new members, experienced or not. Away from school it was a packed schedule as you can see from the pictures: Year 4 attended the Trinity Park Music Day in Ipswich and UKS2 children were especially busy, taking part in the Abbey 1000 Heritage Project Day parade and performance in the Abbey Gardens, and the next day off to the Tudor living history day at Kentwell Hall. Barely pausing for a breather they were then taking to the stage with their brilliant performances of Shakespeare Rocks to enthusiastic and appreciative audiences.

Finally and sadly we said farewell to our amazing Year 6 children, many of which have been part of the Hardwick family for seven years, they have been a very special cohort and will be very much missed. We wish them the very best, good fortune and our blessings as they move forward into secondary education with the biggest of Hardwick "woooshes".

The speakers at our July meeting were David and Jane Corby, who gave a most informative presentation about their experiences as competitive ballroom dancers. The couple work at the Royal Hospital School but spend every spare moment dancing. Their talk was illustrated by dozens of super slides and Jane brought

June was a busy month for Moreton Hall WI as we managed to fit in two outings. We visited the Yum Yum Tree Fudge Factory in Woolpit one Tuesday morning to see how the fudge is made. We were shown round by the owner Adrian before enjoying a delicious tasting session. We went away laden with sweet treats after a super morning. Later in the month we were blessed with beautiful weather for an afternoon spent at the Wyken Vineyard garden, Hall

several of her dresses along with her for us to admire. It was fascinating to hear how the ballroom circuit works away from ‘Strictly’ and to learn what the judges look for in the different categories.

Instead of our August meeting we will be visiting the Hilly Ridge Alpacas in Wattisham. We will be back at the Moreton Hall Community Centre for our September meeting when our speaker will be Graham Dossett who will be telling us his ‘Tales of a Holiday Tour’.

Sally writes about how working with Green Light Trust provided support for her son, Simon, who has severe autism and learning difficulties. This life changing support also transformed the lives of the whole family.

It is this holistic approach and the time which is taken to get to know the needs of each individual which makes all the difference. GLT was able to put together a tailored programme which meant that Simon made the transition smoothly from school to GLT and game him a sense of purpose and a feeling of community – not an

easy task for a young man who lives by rigid fixed routines which are part and parcel of his autism.

The care provided by GLT together with being outside in nature, opened up a new world. Simon is ready for his day with GLT. This means that I can go off to work knowing that Simon will have a fun, structured and rewarding day whilst being kept safe. I know that Simon is being guided and that he will reach his full potential by completing conservation tasks around the site under the watchful eyes of the GLT leaders. Simon is proud of his achievements - the things that he has made and the new skills that he has learnt. As soon as I go to pick him up he wants to share them with me.

GLT continues to support 1,000s of children and adults with complex needs from neurodiversity to poor mental health and wellbeing. We run a series of programmes including Earth Mental Health, Stepby Step and Natural Alternative as we utilise the healing power of nature to provide the catalyst to transform the lives of the individuals in our care.

Changes are being made to amounts payable by individual tax-payers and how returns are submitted to HM Revenue & Customs. Most are being staged over the next couple of years.

An increase to National Insurance Contribution thresholds has already taken place. The rate increases will have hit employees, employers and the self-employed. Next year they will be replaced by a new Health and Social Care Levy. The rate is pegged at 1.25% but unlike NICs, this will also be payable by employees and the self-employed beyond State Pension age.

As we wrote in July, all Sole Traders and Landlords with sales or rental income of over £10,000 will be brought into Making Tax Digital for Income Tax Self-Assessment (MTD ITSA) requirements on April 6, 2024. This will involve mandatory digital recordkeeping and quarterly online returns to HMRC.

Considering plant and equipment purchases? From April next year the Annual Investment Allowance will be reduced from £1m to £200,000. Obviously, careful planning is needed because there will be a lower limit when a business has an accounting year-end other than March 31.

This spot had also been for the photo opportunity of the visiting Westland Scout helicopter. Pilot’s Paul Green and Tom Hobbs allowed us to get up close, thank you gentlemen.

To publicly thank every one who grafted so hard, would take many pages – so Chairman Graham please thank every person involved. The committee, volunteers and many more, are all to be congratulated in making this such a memorable and successful event.

So how did we do? – The attendance was nearly 700 in total, which brings our current total to 1,500+ so far this season. This already exceeds last years figures which is fantastic. The other statistic is that, after expenses, we received over £2,000 either through sales or donations. This income and YOUR support goes towards keeping YOUR museum open and to the excellent standard it achieves.

In the very early days of electric vehicles the maximum distance driven could be as little as 50 km on a full charge. Not much use if you wanted to visit your friends 200 km away and had to find 3 charging points on the way. Today the lowest range we found for a 2022 car was 185 km and the greatest a whopping 830 km. This, of course, is based on the size of the battery in the vehicle and the efficiency of the car. Alongside an increasing number of charging points in the UK this should start to allay any feelings of range anxiety you may

estimate range. The first is battery capacity measured in kilowatt hours (kWh), this can be anything from 15kWh for a small city car right up to 100kWh for larger models. Then there is the efficiency of the engine which is measured in kilowatt hours per 100km (kWh / 100km). An average is around 21 kWh /100km.

Batteries

This essential part of an electric vehicle has come a long way since the early days. The lithium-ion batteries now supplied with electric cars are a real game changer. I am sure many of us worry that the battery in an electric car would need changing every 2 or 3 years and incur a huge cost. Not so, it turns out that 92% of electric car owners have not had to change their battery in the eight year / 160,000 km warranty that electric car manufacturers give their batteries. The other main concern is battery degradation, once again not as bad as you many think. Typically, they lose on average, 9% efficiency over 7 years. In other words, if your car had a range of 320km when brand new, it drops to around 290km after 7 years.

e.g. Car has battery capacity of 50 kWh and an engine efficiency rating of 20 kWh 50 ÷ 20 = 2.5 2.5 x 100 = 250km range.

To estimate the potential range of your vehicle simply divide the battery capacity by the efficiency of the engine and multiply by 100.

With that in mind, I would ask you to pray throughout August for the leadership election as well as lobbying our local MP to make sure we get a man or woman of real integrity and strong values to lead our nation at what is a difficult time.

It also shows that the moral fibre of this nation is still intact. While we may not be overtly Christian; Christian basic values such as honesty, integrity, hard work, loyalty, and truthfulness runs deep into our nation, and when our leaders fail to show these qualities, it is right for other leaders to work together to remove them from office. Although we are entering into a very difficult time, we are nonetheless showing ourselves to be a nation where moral values do count.

It is a very healthy society that can remove a leader when it is shown that they are no longer reliable and trustworthy. That it has been done without some sort of major political tumult or people taking to the streets with weapons is a wonderful thing.

At Christ Church, Moreton Hall, we are preparing to return to almost our preCovid level of services with an exciting range of new groups and activities. From September the first Sunday of the month will always be a Family Service; the second Sunday of each month will be a Morning Worship Service and Sunday school with a four o’clock Youth Group for teenagers; on the third Sunday there will be Holy Communion followed in the afternoon by Kids’ Church which is a special service at four o’clock for young families; and then on the fourth Sunday there will be Morning Worship and the youth group again. Finally, on the fifth Sunday where possible there will be a more Free Church style Communion. We hope that this, along with our parent and toddler group, Stay and Play, which is

BREAK IN

We are sad to announce that there has been a second break in at the church. The first was in June, the second in July. On both occasions damage was done to the fabric of the building but nothing of significance was taken. Therefore, we have to tighten our security, install fresh CCTV cameras and issue more keys to groups that use the building.
