WELCOME TO THE
ISSUE
Hello and welcome to the August issue of the Moreton Hall Directory. It’s the school holidays! And the big question is, how will we keep the kids entertained this summer? Well, you’ll be pleased to hear there are lots of ideas throughout this issue, including lots of holiday clubs to keep the kids amused – so why not book up a few dates now to avoid disappointment. Or you could try out our delicious smoothie recipe on page 33. If you are planning a big summer BBQ, go to page 58 where we give some tips to make sure your garden party is one not to be missed, and could just be the talk of the town too! On our monthly charity shop challenge we found plenty of ‘must haves’ for summer, at very, very, reasonable prices. So why not save yourself a few bob and have a rummage around the local charity shops to see what little beauties you can find. We will see you next month, maybe with slightly more grey hair than usual after juggling work and childcare all summer! Happy holidays!

TEN ACRE FIELD Yet again the acre field was the target of a Saturday night boozing session by about 25 youngsters, and as usual when they finished their drinking session they left beer bottles, cans and the normal rubbish that they leave behind but this time they embellished it with toilet rolls strewn all over the field. Unfortunately, one young man left behind a letter from West Suffolk College inviting him for an interview. The letter was recovered by dog walkers and the information was given to the police. The police paid the young man a visit at his home, he agreed that he was on ten acre field but says he did not leave a mess. His parents were not very happy with him. The walkers collected all the bottles bagged them up and took them to the nearest bin for disposal. Patsy and I collected the beer cans and cleared up all the toilet paper. If only they cleared up after their sessions.
Locality Money
Having now settled into their council work all councillors have been allocated their locality budget to be used to help small projects within their ward. It is not a lot of money but quite useful to pump prime other funding. Your county councillor has the biggest pot to be shared between Moreton Hall and East gate ward. Your councillors for Moreton Hall who have the funds are Terry Buckle, Peter Thompson and I. One project I am trying to help now is for a ramp to help our disabled players get into the changing rooms on Sebert Road football field, I have spoken to the Borough council to get ball rolling.

Youth Festival of Flowers and Dragons Throughout June and July you might have noticed Bury has been awash with dragons and flowers. Most of our schools took part in making flower heads, which are displayed in the Abbey Gardens and dragons which are displayed in the Apex. The children had a wonderful time making these displays and if you have not yet seen them why not pop along to the gardens or the Apex and see their handiwork.
YOUTH CENTRE
The children have broken up for summer holidays and there are going to be many frustrated mum and dads trying to find things for little ones to do. I will, with the help of Patsy, be opening the youth centre each Tuesday from 11am until 3pm during August, all are welcome, bring a picnic and enjoy the amusements provided. We must insist that any children under 8 years must accompanied by an adult. There is a small kitchen, three toilets, games will be left out to be used. Best of all it’s FREE. So come along bring the kids and have fun.
That’s it from me until next time, be careful, Frank Warby AUGUST 2015 | 09

Dear reader,
New specialist service for Kidney patients Kidney patients at West Suffolk Hospital are now able to receive specialist care closer to home following the appointment of a consultant who has built up the service from scratch. Dr Vivian Yiu started working at the hospital three months ago, and is the first consultant nephrologist employed by West Suffolk. Since joining the trust, she has set up two new clinics for kidney patients, which means they no longer have to travel to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for chronic kidney disease management and follow up care for acute kidney injury (AKI). She has also introduced an alert system to ensure she sees patients with AKI as quickly as possible so that they can start their treatment earlier, and will run education sessions for clinical colleagues to help them identify the condition. “We have taken some fantastic steps forward in the care which we offer to kidney patients,” said Dr Yiu, who has been appointed jointly with Addenbrooke’s and splits her time between the two trusts.
Dr Vivian Yiu
“We are now able to offer a lot more care at West Suffolk, which is much more convenient for patients as it means they no longer need to travel to Cambridge for treatment. “We also run a joint diabetes and renal clinic every month, which offers patients a fully joined-up service and gives them the chance to see all of their specialists during one visit to the hospital. “All of the feedback we have received so far has been really good and its satisfying to know the new service is already making such a difference to people.”
If you have any questions about fundraising, any of the events mentioned above or how you can help the hospital, please contact fundraising@wsh.nhs.uk or call 01284 712952 12 | AUGUST 2015

beside the path. Away from the path, where the woodland floor was shady, there was a dominance of dog’s mercury and fewer other species.
In May 2009, and again in May 2015, Woodland Ways members surveyed some tree and flowering plant species. The most species-rich part of the wood appears to be alongside the path through the wood, with a greater number of species recorded here rather than anywhere else. Garlic mustard, which is edible, and wood avens with its delicate yellow flowers, typically were found by the path and not elsewhere. It is considered that this is accurate, rather than reflecting surveyor bias towards recording
Although six year is not long in the life of a woodland, some changes have occurred between 2009 and 2015. Wood sedge had been found in a small spot in 2009, on the side of the wood near the community centre, but could not be found this year. It seems like wood sedge has been lost from Home Covert, although there is a chance that it may pop up in the future. There has been a big increase in cow parsley and Lords and Ladies in the south of the wood. These light-demanding species may have increased as a result of tree felling behind the cafe and behind Mount Farm Surgery in recent years; the building occupants are rumoured to have been uncomfortable with trees close to their buildings, despite choosing to build right next to the wood.
ome Covert is a woodland planted around 250 years ago, next to Moreton hall Community Centre. Home Covert is owned by St Edmundsbury Borough Council, with management as a community woodland by Woodland Ways. In the northwest corner are two craters, believed to have been caused when a Flying Fortress aircraft crashed in January 1945.
Join us at Woodland Ways... Why not join in with a Woodland Ways work party to help improve the Moreton Hall woods? No experience is needed and all are welcome; we’ll show you what to do. Welcome to the 19th hole, a place for golf tips, reviews and everything golf related.
Well it had everything! The Open championship had all sorts of twists and turns and severe weather conditions. On the final day there was so many players that could have won the claret jug but it was America’s Zach Johnson that completed the victory in a three man play off. We can now look forward to the final major of the year the US PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in August. Product Review – Treat your feet this year. My product review for this month is the New Nike Lunar control III golf shoes. Nike tells us that, the incredible Nike Golf Lunar Control III Shoes improve upon its predecessor with a lower profile and a lighter fit. The premium Lunarlon cushioning and dynamic Flywire deliver springy impact protection and support, while the Nike Control Platform delivers incredible stability throughout your swing, allowing you to play in complete comfort. After using this product all of that information means that they are one of the most comfortable golf shoes I have used in a long time. This game is hard enough; you want to make sure you are comfortable while you are on course trying to produce your best golf. The styling has modern features but still keeps the stylish appearance the any golfer is after, and with seven different colour ways to choose from you will find one that meets your needs. I would give these shoes 10/10 in terms of comfort and styling, however with a price tag of £130.00 they will not be on everyone’s shopping list. All I would say is you definitely get what you pay for.
Coaches Corner – Strike it pure for maximum distance We have all done it, walked onto the tee of a par 5 or long par 4 and thought I have got a hit a massive drive down here to give myself a chance of making a good score. The only problem with trying to hit this massive drive is it makes it harder for you to control the face of the club and achieve the strike from the sweet spot of the driver face. This will often result in the drive heading off line and shorter than you were after. So with that in mind here are two great tips to make sure you swing in balance and achieve better strikes when its matters. Hit it BETTER, NOT harder – This will seem like a strange thing to say when you’re looking for distance, however you need to be able to control the club throughout the swing so that we can strike the ball out of the correct area on the club face, these pure strikes will allow you to add distance and control direction. Balance – this area is key throughout the golf swing. If you watch the world’s best players they are always so stable after hitting each shot. This proves they have swung the club at a great rhythm and in balance, this gave them the best possible chance to strike that shot as a good as possible. If you put these two points into practice when you next want a long drive then I am sure that you will see better results with less effort. For more coaching advice or book a lesson please feel free to contact me. Quote MHD for £5 off your first golf lesson with me.

Meet our new Columnist....
Nicola Delglyn Osteomyologist Physical & Nutritional Therapy Since the age of 18 I have suffered back pain, which lead to emergency back surgery 13 years ago, so one thing I always do before going on holiday is prepare my back for the journey! Sounds odd? But it really does help!
Like so many people I have found there is nothing worse than being in discomfort and pain whilst away from home and our home comforts! Holidays should be a time for rest and relaxation. We’ve worked hard all year, so we deserve to enjoy a pain free escape from the routine. The journey to and from your destination can pose some serious challenges to our back, so if you’re about to jet, bus, car or train away for your summer holiday and are worried about back pain, here are some useful nuggets on how to prepare against, and prevent back pain when you’re en-route to your holiday destination. Each mode of transport represents a unique challenge for your posture and poise. The bumpiness of a long distance car ride in a squishy seat is going to cause different issues compared with squeezing yourself into a rigid airline seat on a short or long haul flight. For most situations the same common-sense advice applies. But, to be comprehensive, I’ve written more on my website www.delglynclinic. com and broken the advice down depending on whether it’s air, train, car or bus travel.
24 | AUGUST 2015
Treatments to beat pain for For the best chance of staying pain-free, I would always recommend you begin your preparation before you leave.
Before you go Enjoying a pain-free holiday starts with preparation well before your departure date. Ensure you have an appointment with your Osteomyologist or other therapist booked in at least a few days before you leave; having treatment and/or adjustments ahead of your trip can make all the difference. Think about how you can relax on your journey. I like to use meditation apps to recharge when travelling, especially when I’ve been caught in queues at the airport with the children! Here are some tried and tested techniques I’ve used to help alleviate back pain during my travels. I hope you find them interesting and beneficial. l Go for an aisle seat if travelling by air, bus or train, I am forever stretching out my legs into the aisle, whenever it’s safe to do so. Also aim to stand up and move around every 30 minutes at least l Make sure you stretch your arms, back and legs. Rolling your ankles and feet in circles, doing light shoulder shrugs and neck stretches will help you stay pain-free. As always, avoid sitting with crossed legs. It also helps circulation and keeps your muscles
HEALTH & BEAUTY
Physical & Nutritional Therapy adults, children & athletes supple. Set the alarm on your watch to go off every 30 minutes to remind you to do a little stretching l To mitigate the effects of your seat, try and keep as relaxed as possible, push your buttocks against the back of the seat and ensure your shoulders are pushed up to the seat too. Try not to recline backwards l I love my pillow and it has travelled with me all over the world! Even when I’ve been away on business. If you suffer from back pain, take a lumbar support pillow l For the guys - avoid carrying your wallet in your back pocket as when you sit it will tilt your pelvis and irritate your butt muscles which can trigger pain l Try to pack as light as possible so you don’t end up carrying heavy luggage. I always use the ‘Capsule Wardrobe’ theme when packing. Check out the following website for further details, and this goes for the guys too! http:// theeverygirl.com/how-to-create-a-capsulewardrobe l Stow your bags underneath your seat or in dedicated luggage holders at waist level or lower and avoid lifting heavy luggage onto overhead shelving l If you do need to lift heavy luggage, bend from the knees rather than arching your back. Ensure your body is facing what you are trying to lift and in alignment with your feet so you
are not twisting your spine. Do not reach across something to get to your bags, you could pull a muscle in your back l If possible, try to spread the load over two bags rather than one l If travelling by road in a car or bus, take regular breaks. When the bus stops, get out and walk around. When travelling by car, I usually try and stop every 60 – 90 minutes if I can! Travelling with family usually means that one of us needs a “loo break” l If there is enough time try stretching your hamstrings and back. Roll your head from side to side and rotate your hips. These should all help keep you supple and ensure good circulation l Take regular sips of water. This will help to keep muscles hydrated, making it less likely that they will strain or pull during the trip l If you have to use a shoulder bag, switch sides frequently, even better go for an ergonomic backpack such as these www. thehealthybackbag.co.uk With enough preparation and by keeping these tips in mind, you’re maximising your chances of avoiding back pain during your journey.
Have a safe and happy holiday!

Classes in and around Bury St Edmunds for young children. Our July meeting was on the hottest day of the year and our Chairman introduced the new sound system. We were updated on the WI Centenary Annual Meeting held at the Royal Albert Hall and it was interesting to hear about seeing the Queen, other members of the Royal Family and important guests. The centenary baton was handed over to the Queen. The event was linked live to Anglesey where the first WI was formed. Our speaker was Janine Pinel from the Suffolk West Citizens Advice Bureau. This is not Government funded and is a charity. It first opened its doors on 4 September 1939. During the second world war meetings were held in converted horse boxes. Issues at that time were lost ration books, bombing raid damage, problems with money and housing. These days it mostly centres on Pay Day Lenders, debt problems, marriage breakup and welfare benefits. The bureau relies on an army of specially trained volunteers and other staff who provide free independent advice on a range of subjects. It is also good experience for people seeking employment. The bureau is proactive in preventative work by talking to groups in the community and using special ways to educate people who need help. Their advice is impartial and confidential.

Beating Breast Cancer Linda keeps us updated with her breast cancer treatment this month ... Linda
Well I am sitting here thinking about what to write after finishing my last Radiotherapy session this morning, having had 15 treatments attending Addenbrookes Hospital every day (excluding weekends) since 30th June. Yes, I caved in…eventually! To say that I am both physically and emotionally tired is an understatement, but more importantly totally relieved that all the chemotherapy and radiation treatments are now over with! I understand that the Radiation is cumulative and therefore the side effects are likely to get worse before they start to get better over the coming weeks. I have been tired towards the last week or so, particularly in the afternoons (like now!). However, I did manage to drive myself to the Hospital pretty much every day. I have religiously used the ‘burn cream’ that has the ingredients Hypercal, Arnica and Cantharis on my chest area and my collarbone area and don’t seem to have been too badly affected in terms of skin changes. However, on the second week I started to notice a big patch of skin on the back of my neck and shoulder area getting very red and itchy. When I mentioned this to the Radiographer, low and behold I was told that this was common and that it’s the radiation dose penetrating straight through my body! If I had of known this was likely to happen, I would of course used my cream from day 1! As it stands now the area is pretty itchy 28 | AUGUST 2015
and raw so I am using the gel from my aloe vera plant as well as the cream. Enough said on the whole Radiation subject I think – I have complied with the NHS conventional treatments so I can at least say I have done as I’ve been told, even if it was more through fear than belief! Moving forward for the next few weeks I will carry on with using the cream and taking my homeopathic radiation protection remedy as well as the herb tinctures and drinking my Essiac Tea and Matcha Green Tea plus taking the regular supplements on a daily basis. I mentioned in one of my earlier articles about the Eat, Drink, Move, Think short course that I attended run by Claudina Caaveiro at Neal’s Yard. She is running a Summer Cleanse course that starts at the end of July for a few weeks, which will tie in nicely to helping me detox from all the toxins and get my health back on track moving forward. There is also Part 2 of the EDMT course starting late September, which will follow on from the first course covering some more interesting topics. Nutrition is still something I want to learn more about, and as I had to give up my course last year I will look more into progressing my knowledge on this subject which I feel is the most important part of keeping yourself healthy and free from a lot of disease. In August I have booked myself into the Lifehouse Spa & Hotel
near Frinton. They offer a recovery break, which is 2 nights of complete relaxation for those in post-cancer recovery or still undergoing treatment and for anyone recovering from illness, stress burnout or bereavement. This was my birthday present to myself and I’m hoping that I will be able to relax and chill out for a couple of days and enjoy their recovery treatments that are included! I will give my feedback next month in case anyone else going through an illness may be interested in booking. Speaking of birthdays, I’m generally not a fan of celebrating them each year, but this year I spent it with some very good friends and enjoyed an early evening of dinner and drinks (just a couple!) and have decided after everything I have been through since last October, that all my future birthdays will be celebrated and I’ll be thankful that I am alive and well to see them! I’ve been quite busy socially this month even with all the radiation on a daily basis. A dear friend got married earlier in July and I was invited to celebrate the 2-day event. I found it quite amusing to turn up to the wedding wearing my short bobbed blonde wig and then the following day, which was the blessing; I wore my long brown wig. It tickled me that some of the people I sat with on the first day, didn’t recognize me the following day! I probably confused the photographers too.
HEALTH & BEAUTY
My hair is definitely growing back now, albeit as I mentioned last month, very salt and pepper in colour. Its also pretty wavy now, but I do hope that in the not too distant future, it will revert to how it was! I have been brave over the last few days and gone without wearing my wig or scarves too – mainly to Addenbrookes hospital and at home. Not quite brave enough to venture into Bury just yet without the headgear! In terms of appointments back at the West Suffolk I am due back to both the Breast Clinic and Oncology around October time. I think they will want to carry out a mammogram at that stage. However, I have taken the decision and been for Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging at Bury Natural Health. This is a non-invasive, safe technique for detecting and monitoring many injuries, conditions and breast health. It is a safe and effective additional diagnostic tool for checking breast health, detecting inflammatory conditions or monitoring a treatment progress for injuries. It detects abnormal changes in the body, which may lead to a more serious disease, before any symptoms are noticed. Thermograms may indicate abnormal activity many years before the condition can be seen by an anatomical test, so they fill a gap in clinical diagnosis. While X-rays, CT Scans, Ultrasound and MRI are tests of anatomy; Thermography is unique in its capability to show the function of living cells. It has also proven to be a very useful complementary procedure to other medical tests. It has its advantages as it’s non-invasive – no contact with body, no exposure to harmful rays. It’s important to understand that Thermography, just like Mammography, does
not diagnose cancer, but allows you to track your own unique thermal pattern over time and alert you to any changes taking place. Thermograms are also an invaluable tool for women with breast implants to monitor their health. I will continue with these on a regular basis and should it show up anything abnormal, will of course get clinical advice and have the necessary scans. I mentioned in my last article that I would be raising some money for the Macmillan Unit by selling off a lot of my dresses. I have started this process via my Facebook page with some success, but still have many dresses that need to be sold! I have pictured a few of these in this month’s article and if any ladies out there are interested in knowing more detail about these and lots of other day time and evening dresses that I have (predominantly Size 10 & 12), then please get in contact with me via email on: bindy1707@gmail.com where I can email images over to you. All proceeds will be going to the Macmillan Unit and I need to clear a lot of space in my wardrobe (not for more clothes, but to make space for a desk to work from!)
As I am pretty much at the end of the journey in terms of the treatments for my breast cancer I will probably write one more main article next month and summarise the experience to date. I am sure the Team will let me add a paragraph or two in the future just to keep you up to date with any future developments and progression!

RECIPE
Chicken And Mint Salad With A Lime And Strawberry Dressing
Ingredients: Olive oil 4 chicken breasts, cut into strips 6 carrots, peeled ½ cucumber ½ white cabbage 2 tbsp mint leaves, torn For the dressing: 50 g sunflower seeds Juice of ½ lime 1 tsp tamarind paste 1 tbsp olive oil 50 g strawberries ¼ red chilli, chopped and deseeded Pinch of brown sugar Salt and pepper
Method: Heat the oil in a pan and fry the chicken strips for around 5 minutes, until starting to brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside. Using a mandolin or potato peeler, whittle the carrots and cucumber into long ribbons, diving them between four bowls. Slice the cabbage finely and separate it with your fingers into long strands, divide these between the bowls, too, artfully placing the chicken strips on top. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 180C/gas mark 4 and put the sunflower seeds on a baking tray. Roast them for five minutes until brown. Leave to cool for minute whilst you place the rest of the ingredients in a blender. Tip in the seeds and blitz. Spoon this paste over the salad with the mint leaves and serve. 30 | AUGUST 2015

We recently popped down to meet the new landlady of The Greyhound in Eastgate Street. Marion, and her son Ryan have taken over the reins of this tenanted Greene King pub which re-opened on June 8th after an extensive 3 week refurbishment. And their message is simple: “We want our pub to have a real community and family feel, as well offering a warm welcome to its regular drinkers” said Marion.
It may well look like the same old Greyhound from the outside, albeit from the introduction of some beautiful flower arrangements (for which they’ve already been rewarded with a Bury in Bloom award) – however it’s not until you cross the threshold that you realise just how much attention to detail has gone into designing what could be the perfect watering hole in Bury St Edmunds.
Luxurious red leather settees and bucket chairs are scattered around the traditional wooden floored bar area, including a lovely secluded snug for those intimate liaisons, it would seem that there is something for everyone. Marion has introduced live music recently with a night of entertainment from the winner of the song for Britain and Eurovision song contender Paul Pheonix, which went down a storm! They plan to organise lots of live music events in the future, so watch this space for further details.

After speaking with Marion and Ryan it was quite clear that they have some fantastic ideas on the horizon, including converting the outside barn into an external bar, home cooked food using free range products, cream teas on a Sunday (yum!) along with childrens games and barbecues. They even have a meeting room where they plan to hold regular coffee mornings. The Greyhound are also interested in resurrecting the petanque and darts teams, so if any of our readers fancy having a go, I’m sure Marion would love to hear from you. If you happen to be in the area of The Greyhound, we highly recommend you pop in for a drink, a bite to eat and to say hello!

My Blue Heart inspires participation in an exciting exhibition planned for September at The Apex Gallery. Recently established local charity, My Blue Heart, is hosting an exciting
exhibition to be held at the Apex Gallery, Bury St Edmunds, from 2nd to 27th September. Focussing on the theme of `Love, loss and what it means to say I carry your heart in mine’, the exhibition will be celebrated by a Launch evening on Sunday 6th September, 6-8pm. Founded by Shirley Gower in 2012 following the loss of her 14 year old daughter Jess to primary bone cancer, My Blue Heart aims to give bereaved people a way to show others they are grieving through wearing their unique heart-shaped badges in forget-me-not blue, with a red heart in its heart. This is a direct response to the feelings of those who struggle to exist in the ‘normal’ world after suffering a great loss with no way for people to know what they are going through. The distinctive badge has created a simple and effective way for people to communicate their grief without the need for words. Many artists have already signed up to exhibit, including one painting from far afield! When artist Amanda Tonkin-Hill heard about the exhibition she was inspired to gift one of her paintings `Timelessness’, even though she lives in Australia. The Charity are also delighted to have received a beautiful, large scale artwork based on the My Blue Heart logo, from traditional sign writer Wayne Tanswell who is based in Sudbury. All artwork will be for sale both during the exhibition and in an online gallery. Students from the Graphic Design department at Long Road 6th Form College in Cambridge have also been inspired to take part in a 38 | AUGUST 2015
competition to design an exhibition flyer. In total 19 different designs were submitted. Susan McCrea, a Trustee for My Blue Heart, said “We were overwhelmed with the student’s designs and it was difficult to narrow it down to just one choice”. In the end three winning designs by students Flo Rooke, Don Marks and Steph Parsons were chosen to help promote the exhibition. Two bereavement workshops, supported by Lucy Coote of Rosedale Funeral Home, are planned for 11am (adult) and 4pm (children) on Tuesday 8th September with everyone welcome to drop in to ask questions or participate in practical activities. All of the work done by My Blue Heart is voluntary and profits raised from this event will be donated to CLIC Sargent’s bereavement services. CLIC Sargent children’s cancer charity supported the Gower family through their loss and will continue to help other families in the future. Fundraising Manager for CLIC Sargent, Daisy Turner said “We are thrilled that My Blue Heart are organising what promises to be a brilliant event. Last year CLIC Sargent supported 70 families from Suffolk alone which is why fundraising events such as these are so important in order for us to continue supporting families, such as the Gowers, when they need it the most.” The event organisers hope that you will take this opportunity to view some unique artwork and join them for complementary drinks and nibbles at the Launch event on the 6th September.
Artists interested in submitting work for this event, please contact Shirley Gower on 07786 933563 or email exhibition@ myblueheart.co.uk .

Personal Injury Claims – Your right to fair compensation Making a claim for compensation for personal injuries as a result of an accident has in recent years been tarred with negative expressions such as “compensation culture” and “ambulance chasing” in addition to publicity over scandals involving fraudulent claims. However, the reality is that if you are injured through no fault of your own, then you should be entitled to fair compensation for your injuries and any economic losses, and as such should seek advice from a solicitor at an early stage. Most solicitors offer advice under a “no win no fee” agreement (formally known as a conditional fee agreement) should they be satisfied that the claim has good prospects of succeeding. Most claims worth under £25,000 are now submitted through a Claims Portal on the internet which then forwards details of the claim to the potential defendant’s insurance company who then has a period of time ranging between 15 and 40 business days to respond to your solicitor to advise whether or not they accept responsibility for the accident. If they accept liability, your solicitor will
attempt to settle the matter out of Court and will obtain medical evidence to establish the prognosis for your injuries and to determine a value for your compensation. If liability for the accident is denied through the Portal or a settlement for a fair amount cannot be achieved out of Court, your solicitor will advise you on whether or not you should start action through the County Court. Your solicitor will able to conduct the process on your behalf and advise you as to what level of compensation is appropriate for your injuries and financial losses. If you have suffered an injury through no fault of your own and indeed have found yourself out of pocket, then there is no reason why you should not seek redress. Rudlings Wakelam offer a “no win no fee” agreement for such claims and are happy to see clients to explore the making of such a claim in a free initial consultation. Should you require more information, then please contact Rachel Shaw on 01284 755771 or via www.rudlings-wakelam.co.uk.

Deflated
BY ANDREW SOUTHWOOD
I
love my cycle to work. Rain or shine it has huge benefits. Physically, financially and mentally – I feel so much better and ready for the day ahead if I’ve biked in. There is however one thing that gets me down… so to speak. Punctures, the bane of any peddle powered commuters day. Like many things in life they tend to come ‘like buses’. I had done 2 years daily commutes across town without so much as a graze, then suddenly… bang, 3 or 4 punctures in as many months. Sadly, unlike the riders in the great tours, I am not flanked by 2 estate cars with spare bikes, ready to roll, on the roof. When I get a flat I simply get off and push it home, cursing all the way. It takes me a good half an hour in the relative comfort of my garage, with
54 | AUGUST 2015
all tools to hand, the radio on and an old carpet to kneel on, to change an inner tube. This time could easily be trebled if attempted on the roadside. By far and away the most annoying bursts are those caused by glass. These are avoidable and as far as I am concerned amount to nothing short of criminal damage. I am not entirely sure if the glass is deliberately placed there by a cranially challenged person in an attempt to injure and disrupt, or simply thoughtlessly dropped by someone not in full control of their senses. Either way, it’s bad news. I’ve tried various tactics to reduce my risk of flats, from pumping my tyres to within an inch or their life… and beyond (a tyre burst whilst I was super inflating it in the garage it a few months ago and exploded like a gun
shot - my ears were ringing for hours afterwards). For several weeks I also carried a small brush on my bike, stopping to sweep the path before me at various points. A few strange looks from early morning dog walkers and alike, but it sort of worked I think. Now I tend to use the roads rather than the paths at strategic puncture hot spots. Sorry motorists, but ‘your’ bit of road is almost always far clearer of debris than the adjoining cycle paths. Ultimately it’s futile of course. If there are senseless idiots intent on inflicting misery and pain within their own community, then leaving broken glass on paths (and kids play areas – don’t even get me started!) is probably a good starting point. Equally, if I am just unlucky, I mustn’t get paranoid about it and above all, I mustn’t let it deflate my mood.

How to Organise the Perfect With the summer season already here and the temperatures expected to rise even more over the next few weeks, many have plans to fire up the barbeque. All it takes is a bit of sunshine, a few bags of charcoal and some of your friends and family. So, how can you host the “perfect” BBQ, especially when you don’t have the time to organise everything in advance? Instead of serving your guests a few frazzled sausages we have complied some hints and tips on how to make your party an experience that everyone will remember for a long time...
MAIN FOOD
CUTLERY
Going all out for a traditional barbeque means serving ribs, chicken, burgers and sausages, but don’t forget those who don’t eat meat and include things such as veggie burgers (but don’t forget to cook them away from the meaty BBQ!). Also make sure there is something for people with food allergies to eat. People attend BBQ’s with high expectations for the food, so it’s important that you get it right. Everything should be cooked on a low heat to get the best out of the meat. If you have the time and really want to go for it, marinate or season the meat the night before. The classic sauces to serve are BBQ sauce, tomato ketchup and mayonnaise. Get the food right, and your friends and family will remember your BBQ for all the right reasons.
It’s highly doubtful you’ll want guests in your back garden eating off your finest china plates, so make sure you have enough paper plates, napkins, plastic cutlery and cups. They aren’t the most attractive things in the world, so choose bright colours to add to the summer vibe. The real beauty in them is that they are easy to dispose of. Have a bin easily accessible for your guests to use, each time they want to dispose of their old plate or napkin, but not too close to the food as you want to avoid attracting unwanted guests such as flies.
NIBBLES Snacks like crisps should be on offer to starve off hunger, while you guests are waiting for the meat to cook, and to prevent them from getting too drunk too quickly. You may also consider getting some ice-cream for those who can’t resist a sweet treat for dessert and to keep people cool.
DRINKS Make sure there are plenty of cool drinks on offer. You could even get your guests’ favourite drinks in for extra brownie points (and to be in with a chance of winning the “Host of the Year” award). Include a mix of alcoholic AND non-alcoholic drinks; while you may not be driving, some guests will be, and some may be tee-total. Pimm’s and lemonade in jugs with chopped strawberries, oranges, cucumber and mint leaves is a summery choice while lager is usually an essential. To mix things up, you could try something different, like orange or limed tinted flavoured lager or some cider. To keep drinks cool you could use a large container filled with ice, so you don’t have to run in and out of the house every time someone wants a drink. Just because it’s summer it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have tea and coffee in your cupboard; these will always be the “die hard” drinks that fans refuse to live without, no matter the weather. 58 | AUGUST 2015

CHEF
Having a barbeque party is a great opportunity to relax with friends and family, while some compete to be the alpha in charge of cooking the meat. If you have too many “chefs” attending your BBQ party, then why not adopt the Australian BBQ customs? Every time the head-chef needs to refill his drink the next in line takes over – and by “next in line” we mean literally the person that is seated closest to him. This way anyone who wishes to be in charge of the grilling can get a chance to do it.
GARDEN Make sure your garden is in tip top condition. A BBQ needs to set level and guests don’t want to feel like they have to wade through the grass because it is long and unkempt. If you haven’t got your hands around it for a while, spend a few hours in the morning to tidy up your lawn!
HOME + LIFESTYLE
BBQ Party SEATING While your guests are waiting for their main meal, be sure you have enough chairs for them to sit on, as not everyone will want to stand and eat. You need enough tables for guests to put their plates and drinks on, but you also need a table by the BBQ to put cooking utensils on when they are not being used. If you are not planning on making a career out of BBQ’s or buying a patio set is out of your budget, hiring patio furniture is a much cheaper solution. Or get all your guests to bring a camping chair or picnic rug!
ENTERTAINMENT If you’re hosting a large party all your guests may not know each other. Break the silence with music, as this will help people feel more relaxed and help them to mingle. Just pop the radio on or prepare a playlist if you know what your guests like. If they are into dance music putting rock on probably isn’t your best bet. Make sure what you decide to play the music on will be loud enough, if you are playing the music from inside your home. As guests start to get tipsy and the night draws on, you could always check if anyone is up for the Macarena. If there are children attending, make sure there are activities for them to engage in or toys to play with. A bored child doesn’t exactly help create a relaxing party atmosphere.
NEIGHBOURS The best way not to make an enemy of your neighbours is to be considerate towards them, especially if they work unsocial hours, weekends or have small children. If they aren’t going to be at your BBQ party let them know beforehand you are hosting one, with a rough idea of how many people will be there and what time it will end.
WEATHER The British summer is infamous for being unpredictable. Make sure you have all weather conditions covered. Spending a few minutes inside the house if it’s a scorcher of a day can help your guests stay cool with an air conditioner or fan. On the other hand, if you party lasts into the night an outdoor heater will keep guests warm long after the BBQ flames have died down. If your garden is big enough you could also hire a gazebo to make sure your BBQ can be held despite of what Mother Nature throws at you.
BE SAFE While a BBQ is about relaxing, eating, drinking and generally having fun you must be safe while you are doing so. Raw meat is one of the most common sources of contamination, so here is some useful advice: Raw meat is a nesting paradise for germs; these germs can easily move from raw meat onto anything that might get in contact with it, such as cutlery or even your hands, and then onto anything else you touch, including food that is cooked and ready to eat; that is called “crosscontamination”. To help prevent cross-contamination: Wear a pair of disposable gloves when you are about to touch or chop raw meat; if that’s not possible, then remember to always wash your hands after touching raw meat. Use separate sets of utensils and chopping boards to manage or chop cooked and raw meat. Don’t use the same plate that has (or previously had) raw meat on to place cooked food. Keep raw meat in a sealed container away from foods that are ready to eat, such as salads and buns. Never put sauce or marinade on cooked food, if it has already been used with raw meat. Food poisoning cases double during the summer, so if you aren’t cooking your meat in the oven before putting it on the BBQ you need to be extremely careful. How you know when your meat is ready to serve: Before you start cooking make sure the coals have a glowing red colour and a powdery grey surface. Frozen meat has to be properly thawed before cooking it. Make sure the meat is cooked evenly by turning it regularly; when it is piping hot in the centre, there are no pink parts visible and it is drowned of all its juices then it’s ready to eat. Finally, here is a checklist regarding fire safety: Stabilise the barbecue so that there is no danger of reversal, away from any flammable furniture or plants. The coal layer at the bottom of the barbecue should not exceed a 5cm (2in) depth. Opt for recognised firelighters or starter fuel and use them only on cold coals. Never use petrol on a barbecue. Keep children away the barbeque at all times.
Now your BBQ party is planned and everything is prepared you are ready to go. Relax, sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labour, as well as the company of your guests. AUGUST 2015 | 59

Each of the wolves, 20 of which are life-size or bigger, is made from different materials including topiary, willow, metal, fabric and recycled materials. The initiative has been made possible thanks to the Business Improvement District (BID) organisation Ourburystedmunds, working with partners who make up the ‘Town Team’ group. The trail has been inspired by similar art trails across the UK and the wolf was chosen because of its connection to the legend of St Edmund. An online competition is running to find 10 of the wolves offering a chance to win £100 in shopping vouchers. Alternatively for the more ambitious there are others prizes available for those who track down all 26 wolves. Entry forms are available from all the Tourist Information Points in the town and also from the Ourburystedmunds website. Chief Executive of Ourburystedmunds Mark Cordell said: “The artists have worked incredibly hard to make this trail a reality in a relatively short period of time. Our launch event last week gave those attending the only chance to see a number of the artworks together in one place and many commented how stunning they are. We did have a slight setback at the weekend when an attempt was made to steal one of the wolves from its position on Angel Hill, but fortunately it was unsuccessful and as a result we have been able to step up our security measures, helped by local CCTV operators and the police.”
More information can be found at: www.ourburystedmunds.com/wolftrail or on social media using #BuryWolfTrail. The trail will run until St Edmund’s Day, 20 November.

garden confidential BY PAUL CLARKE
PAULS PLANT OF THE MONTH
Cosmos What to do in your garden in August
Cosmos come in a wide range of colours including pink, white or purple . They are usually grown as annuals in this country and are easy to grow from seed . Cosmos will grow easily in most garden soils and are best grown in groups, rather than alone, not just for impact but to help hold each other up. The seeds need to be planted in pots indoors in a greenhouse or a warm windowsill to help germination. Plant outdoors when risk of frost is over at the end of May and if you regularly dead head the plants Cosmos will flower till the first frosts

I think many of us will have heard or just be aware from observation that “green” front gardens in this country are becoming an endangered species! Gardens that have been paved over in the UK has tripled in 10 years, from 1.5 million to 4.6 million so that 1 in 4 are now paved. This trend is unfortunately perhaps inevitable, due to the increased population and our love of the motor car. Most homes have 2 if not 3 vehicles and with limited on road parking and sometimes charges to do this it is not surprising that the front garden is being lost at an alarming rate. The knock on effect of this is a worsening picture for the nation’s health, for wildlife, pollution and increased risk from flooding. Greening Grey Britain is a campaign being run by the Royal Horticultural Society and all of us can get involved by considering doing some of these five things in your front garden Plant up containers, grow hedges in place of fencing and walling, plant a climber, plant a tree or plant a shrub.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – Independent Custody Visitors
Ensuring that people in police custody are treated properly is a statutory duty of Tim Passmore, the Police and Crime Commissioner and he relies on an army of volunteers to help him monitor the welfare of people who are detained in police stations in Suffolk. Tim Passmore is looking for additional volunteer custody visitors to make regular unannounced visits to Police Investigation Centres. The volunteers will be required to look, listen and report on their findings to the PCC to ensure that the police are providing the service that is expected of them. Tim Passmore said, “Suffolk has two Police Investigation Centres in Suffolk – one in Bury St Edmunds and one at Martlesham, Ipswich – and we are looking to recruit two people to each of those visiting panels. I need the overall panel of visitors to be representative of the local community, so I would really encourage interest from younger people and black and minority ethnic residents. We have a great team of custody visitors in Suffolk, who give their time to support this valuable service and I thank them for their commitment which does not always receive the recognition it deserves.” Volunteers are required to attend an initial training session of half a day and then receive training by observing existing visitors until confident in performing the role. Visitors carry out approximately one visit per month (as part of a panel carrying out the weekly visits), there are quarterly panel meetings which are held in the evening and then 1-2 training days/conference per year. The role is voluntary but we do pay expenses for travel costs. Applicants must be over 18 years of age and appointments are subject to police vetting checks and references. For more information about the role or for a hard copy of the application pack please contact the Police and Crime Commissioner: Telephone: 01473 782773 Email: spcc@suffolk.pnn.police.uk or write to: The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, Police Headquarters, Portal Avenue, Martlesham Heath, Ipswich IP5 3QS

Your Summer robe d r a W e l u s p a C
Holiday packing can be a real challenge, especially if you’ve only got lim allowance. It’s tempting to try and cram in your whole wardrobe but, with shopping, you can get a set of complete looks to take you from beach to breaking your suitcase! Here are the key items to put on your holiday list
Mix and match Bikinis
Choose two bikinis that work well as separates to mix and match, one patterned and one plain bikini in a contrasting colour and you’ll actually have four swimsuits!
A great Wrap
Pashmina might sound like the name of someone from Made in Chelsea, but actually it’s what we call a simple wrap of fabric. This can be worn as a sarong over your bikini on the beach, or as a scarf on the plane, and if you learn the right technique, you can even wrap it into a halter top to wear over shorts. Multi-purpose chic for every occasion!
Block Heels
If you’ve only got room for one pair of dressy shoes, make it a block heel. This season is all about the 70s trend, and block heels are a comfortable and chic way to style up your maxi dresses and LBDs for the evening.
Maxi Dress
A maxi dress is your holiday wardrobe’s best friend, since it can be flung over your bikini with a pair of flats in the day, or styled with a statement necklace and heels in the evening.
Trilby
Trilbys can be worn with every outfit combination imaginable, from maxi dresses, to shorts and T-shirts. This is a great holiday staple that’ll keep the sun off and mix well with all your outfits.
68 | AUGUST 2015
Denim Separates
Denim shorts and a denim jacket are both great things to have in your holiday suitcase, since they work well with lots of items and, because this season is all about double denim, you can now wear them together too.
Plain White Tee
A simple white t shirt in a good cotton fabric is a holiday must-have. Ideally choose one with slightly sheer fabric, which will look great when flung over a bikini with denim shorts in the day, but could equally be dressed up in the evening too with a statement necklace.
Monochrome Magic
Making sure you have a good selection of black and white separates means you’ll always have things that can be mixed and matched together. In particular, a black dress is indispensable on holiday.
Kimono
This season’s must-have cover up is a kimono. Wear it over a bikini and shorts in the day, or on top of a simple dress in the evening for added ‘wow’ factor.
Jewelled Flat Sandals
If you really want to make the most of your baggage allowance, your second shoe in the case should be a super comfortable pair of jewelled flats. They’re a fabulous day-to-night shoe and will go with just about any outfit you can think of.
HOME + LIFESTYLE
mited baggage h a bit of smart o bar without this year…
Beach bag
You might think you need 100 handbags but in actual fact, the one you’ll probably wear for most of the holiday is your beach bag, so why not invest in a pretty one that works as a handbag as well? Waterproof fabric is a must-have, and leather handles will make it look less ‘beachy’ and more handbag-like when you do want to wear it in town.
Evening clutch
As well as your beach bag, you’ll need something smaller for the evening. We suggest a metallic clutch – it’s small, easy to pack and will work with lots of different colours, so you’ll only ever need one.
Statement Sunnies
One pair of really fabulous sunglasses can transform a holiday outfit. Find a patterned or coloured pair that you love and work it, baby!
Finally, remember that you’re not going away forever! Less is more when it comes to holiday packing, so try to only include items that you can think of three different ways of wearing and you’ll find the whole experience much easier.

Warne Motors has moved... It has been a long while in the planning, just under 2 years in fact, but Warne Motors have finally moved from their original premises in Bunting Road, to Sicklesmere Road. The new property is larger, the workshop has been extended and there is much more outside space for parking and car sales. The new site also benefits from its prominent road-side location, close to the town centre, just off the roundabout on the A134 to Sudbury. Warne Motors Bury Ltd is an Independent BMW & Mini Specialist garage, the business is family owned and run it was established by Andrew and Karen Warne who opened their doors for the very first time in October 2009. “We are very pleased with how the Company has developed, since opening we have extended the range of services we provide to include Car sales, Air-conditioning, bodywork, specialist wheel refurbishment and performance up grades. We have recently become the only local approved TerraClean agent, always aiming to keep on top of developments within the motor trade and offer our customers the best service available. We were joined by another ex-BMW senior technician who brought a wealth of experience and knowledge, and feel very fortunate to have such a skilled and dedicated team working with us. When we initially set-up Warne Motors, we wanted to provide an alternative to the main dealer network, giving BMW and Mini drivers a real choice” Andrew Warne If you have a problem with your car or just need routine servicing, it is important to trust that your vehicle is being taken care of, that the replacement parts being used are high quality and the work is carried out correctly. But today, more than ever, Customers want a fair price. Karen says: “Our aim is simple, to provide excellent value for money without compromising on quality. We like to get to know our Customers and understand their needs, we pride ourselves in offering an informed, friendly and flexible approach” “I worked within the BMW main dealership network for 25 years, I held various positions including Technician and finally General Manager, but I haven’t regretted leaving the network and setting up Warne Motors for one minute. Being able to cut out all the ‘red tape’ was like a weight being lifted, it has allowed us to focus on what really matters, the Customer. Working as an independent has its own challenges, its long hours, and hard work but ultimately very satisfying. When you receive positive feedback from Customers and other people within the trade it gives you a real sense of achievement and pride” Andrew Warne “We are amazed by how many people have been recommended to us by existing Customers and would like to express our gratitude, thanks to each and every one of you, we really appreciate your support” Karen Warne If you are concerned about any aspect of your vehicle, please feel free to give us a call for advice on 01284 754921 or call to see our new premises at Southgate Green, 3 Sicklesmere Road, (A134 to Sudbury), Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP33 2BN.

Bowen
Growing up you can have all sorts of things going on in your body. You might have growing pains, bad hay fever or simply have worries running through your mind. If this sound like what’s going on with you, I can highly recommend Bowen Treatment. This sounded quite scary at first because I was just like “Why am I seeing and talking to a random stranger?” I saw a lady called Jo Wortely. When I go to see her she just gives me a massage, depending on what is wrong she massages and moves different parts of my body. Some of the moves make me giggle but it always helps! You can contact Jo on 01284 336114 for both adult and children’s therapy.
sour challenge
Recently I have been going into Aunty Pam’s Sweet Shop and I like getting the raspberry and cherry super sour sweets. They are that sour they come with a warning on the jar. My warning is don’t eat too many in one day or your tongue will feel and look like you have tissue’s in your mouth! I accidently had too many in one day and I had that! Trust me it is not nice. So I came up with this idea and said to my Nan ‘Would you like a sweet’? She replied ‘Go on then’ so I gave her one and her face was like ahhhhh. It was so funny that I have decided to run a competition. The competition is to find the funniest sour face! You need to send me a picture of someone pulling a sour face and the best one will win a bag of sour sweets which I will buy and give to you. Send all entries to mollyh2004@outlook.com. I hope they make me laugh!
wow - women on wheels
So, last month I wrote about doing a sponsored bike ride and I said I’d let you know how I got on. My mum and I said we would definitely do 5 miles but that we wanted to try to go further. Guess how far we went … done drum roll please…… 20 miles! Our great friend Amelia told us that we got cake at 10 miles so we said, ‘oh we are definitely doing 10 miles’, but what a fibber she was, cake was really at 16 miles! So that meant we had to bike even further to get to cake, but it was well worth it when we got there. Thank you to all family and friends who sponsored us, we are still collecting money in, but so far we have raised over £150 for St Nicholas Hospice! AUGUST 2015 | 75

esus said many memorable things one was “consider the lilies of the field” which shows his care of the environment. At the time of writing I have just come back from General Synod, the Church of England’s national assembly, in York. Over the course of the four days we debated many different issues including new baptism services, safeguarding vulnerable children and adults and ecumenical relations. The most important thing was the day given over to considering the environment and global warming. We heard many fine speeches, some wonderful Bible theology and studied various topics in small groups as well as voting on the key propositions. On the last day we sent a

strongly worded message to the Paris summit. We also decided to use our massive investments in fossil fuel to make sure they are developed in a responsible way. As poor countries that have no alternative but to use fossil fuels for their energy can do so in a safe way that is not overly expensive. However, that is only half the story. The fact is that large parts of the world are dying by drought as others are swept away by floods. Many of the island communities in the Pacific are disappearing under rising sea levels. That is why direct action is needed. A few weeks ago, during the Christian Aid campaign, this estate gave £2,266. This is the most we have ever collected and represents nearly a 10%
MORETON HALL rise on previous years. We are very grateful and I want to say a hearty thank you to you all. It may seem a long way off, but 4th October will be our Harvest Festival service when I hope we can all come together and raise a large sum of money for people in Africa. Many of these projects attract funding from governments. For every £1 we raise they give £1 or in some cases £4. If we raise £30 we can buy enough seed to feed a family for a year. If we raise £150 we could help train twelve women with farming skills. If we can double that to over £300 we could help a woman have all the equipment, seed and land she needs to create a market garden. When we consider what we pay out to top up our car or to fill up our supermarket trolleys, these seem small amounts but

Starring Amanda Seyfried, Mark Wahlberg, Seth MacFarlane Family Guy’s Seth MacFarlane returns with this hilarious sequel to 2012’s record-breaking comedy, Ted. Three years on from the events of Ted, the potty-mouthed bear (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) has married his girlfriend, Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth), and together they decide to start a family. He asks his long-time friend John (Mark Wahlberg) to help them out via artificial insemination, but whether Ted can ever have custody of the child is another matter, and so he is forced to go to court to prove that he is human. The first Ted movie remains one of the highest-grossing comedies of all time and now director/writer Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, American Dad!) returns with another cameo-stuffed laugh-fest. Look out for appearances from Morgan Freeman, Amanda Seyfried, Liam Neeson, David Hasselhoff and returnees Giovanni Ribisi and Sam J. Jones, the original Flash Gordon star who finds himself officiating Ted and Tami-Lynn’s wedding!comedy western ‘A Million Ways to Die in the West’, is cast as the female lead.

U
Starring Diane Lane, Amy Poehler, Kyle MacLachlan Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it”s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions -- Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley”s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley”s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

The moreton hall community centre Hi all and welcome to the August edition of the Directory! Whilst writing this, we are busy planning our funday for the weekend on Sunday July 26th, so by the time you are reading this it will all be over, and hopefully the biggest success ever!! If you came along to enjoy the day and participate in all the activities with all your family and friends, we hope that you had a fabulous day and if the weather was sunny then brilliant! If the weather was raining we apologise but that is one thing we cannot plan here on at the community centre, as that is in the hands of the gods! If you hold a football loyalty card, these need to be redeemed by end of August, so get them stamped up and exchanged for your free drink as we are no longer offering them after this month! Now we are planning our 30th birthday of Moreton Hall Club! We are feeling old, but never too old to have a party! And thats our plan, on Saturday August 15th we are hoping to have a big celebration with lots of things planned for the day, Buskers, BBQ, Drinks priced as they were 30 years ago!!, just keep an eye out for the members email or if you are not a member, follow us on facebook and twitter to get all the updates and news to keep you informed. Our general club quiz is being held on Saturday 8th August, so come along and test your general knowledge, get a team of 4 together and be in with a chance to win a cash prize! And our Beach Party on Saturday
29th August will be a fun night too with live singer Smartie playing Reggae and Ska. So wear beach themed clothes if you dare! and get into spirit ready to dance the night away! We are hoping that one of our members will finally win our rollover sunday members draw which stands now at a massive ÂŁ390, as past members drawn have not been present they didnt get to win the cash as they have to be here at the time of the draw or it goes on to another rollover. Our sunday roast is proving as popular as ever, even on the hottest days, so if you want to sample our tasty roast dinner, please try to pre-book as we do tend to sell out fairly early these days, so if you want to eat at 4pm, we would advise you to give us a ring at opening 12pm in the bar, and ask for your food to be reserved for that time. This will ensure you get to eat without the disappointment of turning up and being told we have sold out. And if you wish to eat in the side bar, please mention that when ordering food so that the waitresses can reserve you a table. We would like to thank everyone who comes to the events we put on, the support is appreciated by us all and we want to keep all of our members and non regulars who come to these special events happy so any feedback is very much encouraged so that we can keep on putting on the right events for you all.
