EDITOR’S LETTER
WELCOME TO THE
JULY
ISSUE
Hello and welcome to the July issue of the directory. We hope you all enjoyed celebrating the Queen’s Birthday last month, it was a little bit wet, but from all the pictures we have seen, this didn’t stop you all enjoying street parties. Whilst writing this, it has just been announced that we voted out of the EU. It was a tough argument on both sides, leaving a lot of us confused as to which way to vote, so is this the right decision? Only time will tell. This issue we have something for the guys on page 22, helping them to look after their skin. On page 72 we have a navy beach fashion spread, and a summery lemon mousse recipe on page 43. Our crossword on page 46 will give one of our lucky readers a chance to win a meal for two, so get those pens at the ready! Lots of news and useful holiday tips from our very own Cat on page 68, to keep the kids happy in the fast approaching school holidays. See you all in August!

At our JULY meeting it was celebration time. The Hall was transformed into a decorated Street Party style to acknowledge our Queen’s 90th Birthday. We toasted the Queen and sang the “National Anthem” followed by “Jerusalem”. Margaret our new President introduced the new Committee and our retiring President Jenny was thanked for all her hard work and was presented with a bouquet. Members were updated with a report from the Federation’s Annual Meeting. Our speaker was Pip Wright who told a humorous story of a Suffolk woman named Margaret Catchpole who was born in 1762. She was a fascinating character. Her story was written by Reverend Richard Cobbold, from the brewing family, using pictures he had painted. Margaret had worked in Service to the family. Whilst working at the house her Mistress taught her to read and write. This enabled her to write reports that showed an insight into her life. Her ‘young man’ was William Laud, a Smuggler. She was headstrong and wilful and was known to be a good horsewoman. This was evident when she rode bareback from Nacton to Ipswich to fetch a doctor for her seriously ill Mistress. Her main claim to fame was when she stole a horse and rode to London with the intention of escaping with William to Holland. However, she was caught and imprisoned. After escaping and getting caught again she was sentenced to death but this was later commuted to transportation to Australia. It was a happy ending though as she made a better life and received a pardon. We were all treated to Scones, Strawberries and cream to eat with our tea and coffee. A Joyful Summer’s evening.

Council Tax Scam I have had a few emails from local residents saying that they have had correspondence from a company stating that they were in the wrong tax band and that they were entitled to a rebate. They requested a sum of £89 for them to provide the original property valuation and the current property valuation. I have spoken with the council and they have not sent out any letters about property valuations. If any of you get letters from any company claiming to offer rebates do not get involved let me know by email. Be careful with these and other scams, if you’re not sure, contact the council or any of your councillors.

NEW PLAY AREA
It is nice to see that the new play area is at last open and almost complete. There are lots of different things to do to keep children and young adults busy. Unfortunately some problems have already been raised by concerned residents, namely about dogs. I have had two emails already complaining that dogs are running loose in the play area and some of the children are scared. It has also been noticed that some of these dogs have fouled the area and their owners have not cleaned up after their dogs. This is unacceptable, this is a play area for children and dogs should not be allowed in. I have requested the council to put up notices forbidding dog owners from taking their dogs into the area.

Indecent Exposure On May the 26th a lady was cycling along route 51 past the Flying Fortress, a man just ahead of her stopped and started to urinate in front of her as she passed he turned to face her full on exposing himself. The lady was quite scared and when she got home she reported it to the police. People are advised to be aware and please report to the police on 101 if they encounter this sort of happening again. The lady says she has seen this man in and about the estate.
YOUTH CLUB NEWS LOCALITY MONEY
As of yet I have had no request for some Locality money, I intend to hold a meeting in the youth centre and encourage people to come along to discuss the funding arrangements, I shall have some application forms with me. So if you need funding for any project you are involved in come along for a chat.
VANDALISM Sadly over the few weeks there has been a spate of eggs being thrown at houses by older youths. Granger Close and Appledown Drive as well as other areas have seen houses pelted with eggs and some cars also. There is not a lot that can be done about this as it happens late at night, when the underage drinkers are on their way home. If anyone catches any of these youths call the police on 101, that’s the only way we can deal with it.
Like last year during the summer holidays I intend to open the club up during the weekdays for families to come along to enjoy the facilities, let the children play and run off some of that pent-up energy. So if some of you want to get together and make a fun day of it, just let me know.
Last but not least I have had three people report a black Labrador which has attacked their dogs while they walked around Ten Acre field. This is very unusual as labs are normally pretty calm soft dogs. Should anyone have a problem with this, or your dog is attacked please find out the owners name and we will deal with it.
That’s all for now, until next time take care, Frank Warby JULY 2015 | 11

It’s a Bury Knockout is back with a bang
It’s a Bury Knockout is back with a bang in Bury St Edmunds on Sunday 24th July. Returning to Hardwick Heath for the fifth year, the popular fundraising event will see local businesses and hospital departments compete against each other to be the Knockout Kings! Organised by the My WiSH Charity, the event has raised more than £30,000 for our local hospital since it started – and is once again promising to be a great day of thrills, spills and bubbles. It is not too late to take part with teams consisting of between six to 10 friends, family or work colleagues. Alongside the Knockout, we will be having some inflatable fun for the kids with the Human Hamster Ball Company and Castle Capers both attending to ensure you are all entertained. Sue Smith, fundraising manager at My WiSH Charity, said: “We hope you can join us on the day, we have ordered sunshine and it promises to be the best one yet with more team games and fun for all the family.
“There will be food and drink available so bring a picnic mat and make an afternoon of it. “As well as a great fundraising event, the Knockout is one of the many ways My WiSH Charity celebrates all that is good about our local hospital. We would love you all to be part of that.” The Knockout is once again sponsored by Enterprise and Barnes Construction. A team costs a minimum of £500 with money paid as a one-off donation, divided up between members or through small fundraising events such as a cake sale or quiz night.
If you have any questions about fundraising, any of the events mentioned above or how you can help the hospital, please contact fundraising@wsh.nhs.uk or call 01284 712952 12 | JULY 2016

Moreton Hall News...
from Cllr Peter Thompson
Last month, new parking restrictions and yellow lines were installed around the school entrance on Sebert Road. The plans had been received with widespread criticism and skepticism as it effectively reduced the parking capacity at that part of the road and would move cars from the south to the north side of the road. Some residents felt this would displace parked cars, cause blockages to Symonds Road as cars turned in, cause further disruption to local residents and cause safety issues with visibility out of the junctions and children crossing. I had my own doubts too if I’m honest.
I’m pleased to report that the new restrictions are working well. There is a clear area for cars to wait as they turn off Symonds Road, passing parked cars is easier, traffic flow has improved and, most importantly, the yellow lines have created a wide, open and visible space for parents and children to cross Sebert Road more safely. The new rules have generally been well observed by drivers, so thank you to all involved.
Following around half a dozen incursions onto the various playing fields and open spaces of Moreton Hall from members of the travelling community last summer, you may have noticed that we had arranged for the installation of low level fencing at Pond Grove Close and Heldhaw Road (as reported by Frank in the MHD). The existing court injunctions had made it easier to reclaim the spaces, however it wasn’t a sufficient deterrent alone. I, along with Frank, had various meetings and I had approved some designs by taking officers to the sites themselves to show the problem around October time. The installation was done during the winter and we also repaired gates, posts and locks to our other fields. Last month, members of the travelling community were observed at Lawson Place and they attempted to gain access to the football pitch at Heldhaw Road (as reported to me by various local residents). They were unable to do so due to the physical barrier. Whilst fencing may be less pleasing on the eye, it has already proven its worth in this case and the small cost has already been recouped as every illegal encampment costs several thousand pounds to deal with in legal fees, staff time and waste disposal.
In June, I was invited to the Kembold Close garden party celebrating our Queen’s 90th birthday (and the football!). It was originally intended to be held on the green area near Christ Church, but red tape at the Borough Council requiring licenses and permissions had the typical effect of trying to spoil the fun. We all piled into a house instead and virtually the whole street attended. It was a great example of how we can still all come together for a good, old-fashioned party and how our Queen brings our country closer. Many thanks to the Jones and Banham families for arranging and hosting. Another party for Her 91st?!

LOCAL NEWS
from Moreton Hall Residents Association At its meeting on the 23rd May the St Edmundsbury Borough Council Democratic Renewal Working Party decided against allowing Moreton Hall its own Parish Council. It looks as if Regional Government with a directly elected mayor may be forced upon us without the voters say so. Will this mean fewer councillors covering a larger area? By the time this article appears this issue will have been discussed by both Suffolk County Council and St Edmundsbury Borough Council. The proposal is for an elected Mayor covering Norfolk and Suffolk, if all the local authorities in Norfolk and Suffolk agree. The voters should be consulted about the whole issue. At least a Parish Council would not be remote unlike a Regional Mayor. The land to the east of Lady Miriam Way is in Rougham Ward. So what you may say! However you may not realise that Sybil Andrews Academy and the 500 new homes will be in Rougham Ward. MHRA feel that the 500 houses and the Sybil Andrews Academy which is being built specifically for pupils from Abbots Green and Sebert Wood should be in Moreton Hall Ward as there is an affinity already there and submitted proposals to that effect to the 23rd May meeting of the Democratic Renewal working party. Under Bury 2031 this whole area was designed as the Moreton Hall Expansion area. Logical to include it in a rural parish whose centre is the other side of the A14, and 3 miles away from Moreton Hall? The decision defies
logic. MHRA’s proposal was voted against, but we are told at the end of the day the Boundary Commission will have the final say. Suffolk County Council seems to have ignored the public consultation and petition from Bury over the loss of one fire engine at the Bury Fire Station. What is the point of consulting if you ignore the results? and has anyone at the County thought about the increases in population and housing over the next 15 years in the town? Progress continues to be made on the construction of the new road due to open in the summer of 2017 and plans are afoot for the development of the extension to Suffolk Business Park both from the Lady Miriam Way end and the Rougham end to provide new business space and further job opportunities. This is to be welcomed and actively encouraged. If the car parks at Lawson Place and the Community Centre are full don’t forget the Heldhaw Road car park which usually has spaces available. We have a stall at the Abbots Green Summer Fayre on Saturday the 9 th July and as always are here to listen and take up any issues you may have. Our committee meetings are open to all residents and our next meeting is at the Moreton Hall Community Centre on Thursday 7th July at 7.30 pm. ABBOTS GREEN Community Primary School There is always a lot to celebrate at Abbots Green! Each week in our Achievement Assemblies we share the successes of individuals, or groups of pupils across the school and certificates are issued too in recognition of these achievements. Our team points are tallied in the race towards the legendary ‘End of Term Treat’ for the winning team. We recognise ‘Star Writers’ and ‘Star Presenters’ across the school for excellent examples of written work and fabulous presentation and proudly display their work across the school. Our Green Card system rewards children who have made significant progress during the school year and this term we are also awarding medals on Mondays – an additional achievement to tie in with our current project “Faster, Higher, Stronger.” We also recently had a really good cause to celebrate with the Queen’s 90th Birthday. As well as decorating the school hall the children and staff came to school dressed as Kings, Queens or patriotically dressed

in their red, white and blue clothing. Many also entered our ‘Royal Bake Off’ competition and produced cakes fit for the Queen herself. We were staggered by the number of entrants and as well as an overall school winner we awarded certificates to the winning baker in each class. The day became even more memorable when the residents of Oxlip House opposite the school joined us for tea and cake in the afternoon… and were served by a selection of the Abbots Green Kings and Queens! Finally, in addition to recognising our achievements and celebrating other memorable events today the entire school are taking part in our Annual Sports Day….a fitting reminder to everyone to “always try your best” – one of Abbots Green’s 5 school rules!

Ox-eye Daisies
I
n June and early July, the bat meadow is at its peak flowering. Yellow rattle, bee orchids, bugle, broomrape... The variety of wildflowers is amazing. Just outside Natterer’s Wood, on Mount Road verge, Ron has found pyramidal orchid again. Ox-eye daisy has been found in Natterer’s Wood in low numbers on the southern side of the wood for many years. This year, an explosion of ox-eye daisy flowers are present in the bat meadow, which we’ve never seen before. It is a good coloniser; there are swaths of it for example along the A14 road verges and at the Stowmarket junction ox-eye daisy carpets vast areas of verge with its white and yellow flowers. Although to a botanist, one ox-eye daisy flower is actually not one flower. If you look closely with a powerful lens, each white petal is actually a flower in itself, with all the normal flower parts at its base. And each yellow
bobble in the centre is also a separate flower. Through evolution, it has changed, like all others in the daisy / dandelion family, so that the insect-pulling power of each flower is multiplied many times by the adjacent flowers working in harmony to make a ‘super flower’. Ox-eye daisies epitomise the near-vanished habitat, traditional flower-rich meadowland, which along with elms, cuckoos, and the buzz of millions of insects (remember insect-spattered summer windscreens of past decades?) which seem to express more than any other habitat the core of the English countryside. Flower-rich grassland, as opposed to the green sterility of lawns and playing fields, are much rarer than woodland, on a national scale as well as within Moreton Hall. The fabulous colours and diversity of the Natterer’s Wood bat meadow is a tribute to Woodland Ways volunteers who have managed it for 15 years.

Help You
HEALTH & BEAUTY
ur Man Care for His Skin When it comes to male skin grooming, most of us need to give their man a little help. Here are some tips to get your husband into the good habit of caring for his skin so he can put his best face forward. Tip #1: Schedule him a facial.
Trust us when we say, men LOVE facials. They love the pampering from the face, neck and shoulder massage and they enjoy feeling their skin super clean and baby soft at the end. They’ll rarely book a treatment on their own, but they’ll love you for it. It makes a great gift for his birthday and, who knows, maybe he’ll request it every year.
Tip #2: Post-facial
Buy him his own skin care products. We recommend an easy skin care routine for a man to follow after a facial treatment, so be sure to follow their advice by purchasing the products for him to use at home. As long as the routine is easy (a face wash and moisturiser) most men should be able to commit to it. Note: While they don’t mind occasionally stealing your products to use, it’s best to get him his own products recommended exclusively for his skin type.
Tip #3: Compliment him on his skin.
We all love to hear that our efforts are working. You’ll notice his skin looks better, but it always great to let him know too…
Tip #4: Pick up refills of his favourite skin care products.
Obviously, when the products run out so do the results he’s getting for his skin. Not that you have to run around after him, but a guy doesn’t always feel comfortable popping into a chemist or beauty department of a shop to buy his products so you may need to do this for him or encourage him to shop online.
Tip #5: Schedule a yearly mole check for you both
Men won’t necessarily take the time to check moles on their own, so by booking a joint appointment with a dermatologist or doctor if you have any concerns, is a great way to both get checked. Skin cancer is serious business so it’s well worth a check.
Bottom line: Men WILL care for their skin if doing so is made fairly easy. With your support, he can be sure to look good and feel good. JULY 2016 | 23

Nicola Delglyn Osteomyologist Physical & Nutritional Therapy This time of year, our thoughts go to forthcoming holidays. Some of us may be flying off to exotic lands, others maybe staying local or travelling around the UK. Whatever you are doing, make sure you look after your back so you can enjoy your time away. Like so many people I have found there is nothing worse than being in discomfort and pain whilst away from home and our home comforts! Holidays should be a time for rest and relaxation. We’ve worked hard all year, so we deserve to enjoy a pain free escape from the routine. The journey to and from your destination can pose some serious challenges to our back, so if you’re about to jet, bus, car or train away for your summer holiday and are worried about back pain, here are some useful nuggets on how to prepare against, and prevent back pain when you’re en-route to your holiday destination. Each mode of transport represents a unique challenge for your posture and poise. The bumpiness of a long distance car ride in a squishy seat is going to cause different issues compared with squeezing yourself into a rigid airline seat on a short or long haul flight. For the best chance of staying pain-free, I would always recommend you begin your preparation before you leave.
24 | JULY 2016
Treatments to beat pain for Before you go Enjoying a pain-free holiday starts with preparation well before your departure date. Ensure you have an appointment with your Osteomyologist or other therapist booked in at least a few days before you leave; having treatment and/or adjustments ahead of your trip can make all the difference. Think about how you can relax on your journey. I like to use meditation apps to recharge when traveling, especially when I’ve been caught in queues at the airport with the children! Here are some tried and tested techniques I’ve used to help alleviate back pain during my travels. I hope you find them interesting and beneficial. • Go for an aisle seat if travelling by air, bus or train, I am forever stretching out my legs into the aisle, whenever it’s safe to do so. Also aim to stand up and move around every 30 minutes at least • Make sure you stretch your arms, back and legs. Rolling your ankles and feet in circles, doing light shoulder shrugs and neck stretches will help you stay pain-free. As always, avoid sitting with crossed legs. It also helps circulation and keeps your muscles supple. Set the alarm on your watch to go off every 30 minutes to remind you to do a little stretching • To mitigate the effects of your seat, try and keep as relaxed as possible, push your buttocks against the back of the seat and ensure your shoulders are pushed up to the seat too. Try not to recline backwards
HEALTH & BEAUTY
Physical & Nutritional Therapy adults, children & athletes • I love my pillow and it has travelled with me all over the world! Even when I’ve been away on business. If you suffer from back pain, take a lumbar support pillow • For the guys - avoid carrying your wallet in your back pocket as when you sit it will tilt your pelvis and irritate your butt muscles which can trigger pain • Try to pack as light as possible so you don’t end up carrying heavy luggage. I always use the ‘Capsule Wardrobe’ theme when packing. Check out the following website for further details, and this goes for the guys too! http://theeverygirl.com/how-to-createa-capsule-wardrobe • Stow your bags underneath your seat or in dedicated luggage holders at waist level or lower and avoid lifting heavy luggage onto overhead shelving • If you do need to lift heavy luggage, bend from the knees rather than arching your back. Ensure your body is facing what you are trying to lift and in alignment with your feet so you are not twisting your spine. Do not reach across something to get to your bags, you could pull a muscle in your back
• If traveling by road in a car or bus, take regular breaks. When the bus stops, get out and walk around. When travelling by car, I usually try and stop every 60 – 90 minutes if I can! Travelling with family usually means that one of us needs a “loo break” • If there is enough time try stretching your hamstrings and back. Roll your head from side to side and rotate your hips. These should all help keep you supple and ensure good circulation • Take regular sips of water. This will help to keep muscles hydrated, making it less likely that they will strain or pull during the trip • If you have to use a shoulder bag, switch sides frequently, even better go for an ergonomic backpack such as these www. thehealthybackbag.co.uk With enough preparation and by keeping these tips in mind, you’re maximising your chances of avoiding back pain during your journey.
Have a safe and happy holiday!
• If possible, try to spread the load over two bags rather than one

Welcome to the 19th hole, a place for golf tips, reviews and everything golf related.
June was another fantastic month for golf, the highlight being The US Open championship. Oakmont lived up to its billing of being one of the hardest courses in the USA, it looked to be in first class condition and played very tough as we have come to expect from a US Open course. Great win for Dustin Johnson who was put under extreme pressure in the final round not only by trying to win his first major but by the USGA for a rules decision. It was amazing to watch just how he stayed focused in that situation and got the job done. Golfing treats keep coming in July July see’s two majors taking place to make room in the schedule for the Olympic golf event in August. Its time for the BIG one, The Open Championship 2016 at Royal Troon. The course, which took its current form in 1888, is designed in the traditional out-and-back manner of the Old Course at St Andrews. A gentle opening few holes and relatively straightforward closing stretch are the bookends for a series of holes which weave up, round and through some of the most striking links land to be found at any of the host venues. This makes the strength and direction of the wind even more important than usual on a links course: if the wind is against the players on the back nine, it’s as tough a finish as can be found anywhere. Whatever the weather this course will make sure we are fully entertained for the four days, but as with every major who will win? My Pick: Sergio Garcia The second major of July is the US PGA Championship; this is the final chance for 2016 to put your name in the history books and become a major champion. Baltusrol has hosted many events in the past and the winner here of the 2016 PGA championship will be added to a growing list of top class winners around this golf course. Jack Nicklaus, U.S. Open Champion at Baltusrol, 1967 & 1980 My Pick: Coaches Corner – Green Side Great Escape’s This month we are going to focus on bunker play, now
its at this time of year everyone longs to be on a beach somewhere warm. However, if you were to ask some golfers they would prefer to be anywhere but in the sand. So its time to change this, these few simple tips will allow you to approach bunkers with a lot more confidence and achieve better results. Like so many shots in golf, you need to set up well. The image below shows you how to set up to escape, with a little practice this position will start to feel natural. Set Up: • Ball positioned forward in the stance. • Feet aligned at or slightly left of target. • Weight positioned 70% forward on lead foot. (left foot for right handed golfer) • Club handle relaxed and pointing back towards your centre. From this great set up position I would like you to focus on three main points. Target Draw a line in the sand and practice hitting that line over and over, when you can hit the line 4 times in row then your ready to put a ball down around 2 inches in front of the line and complete the same exercise. Speed To get the ball out of most bunkers takes some force, so its essential to have speed going through the impact area of this shot. As you can see from the image, I have taken the club back a good distance to ensure that I hit my target (the line) with some speed in the club head. Loft Lastly, make sure your using enough loft to allow you to get out easily. Use a sand wedge or lob wedge and even on occasions open these clubs up as well to activate even more loft to be used while playing this shot. If you are still struggling from bunkers after this, or any other part of your game then I would be pleased to assist you in enjoying this game more. As this should be the most important aspect for anyone’s round of golf. If you quote MHD or SGD when booking your first lesson with me then you will receive £5 off, below are my contact details please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Summer has sprung! The theme of the LSS June meeting was holiday care, so here are a few general tips to make the summer sunshine more enjoyable for those living with Lymphoedema and Lipoedema.
water before you enter a pool (this applies to baths or showers too) and avoid using saunas, hot tubs and steam rooms. Don’t sit too close to heat sources such as bar-b-ques and outdoor heaters.
Avoid exposing the affected area to heat and sun, which can cause inflammation, so protect your skin from the sun by covering up with clothes or wearing sun cream with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. Best to use SPF sun cream AND insect repellent before any exposure to the sun. Don’t forget you can still burn through your compression hosiery.
Always wear your compression garment when travelling by air and move about as much as possible. It’s important to discuss any air travel plans with your Lymphoedema Practitioner first.
Never use a sunbed!
Sharon Phillips has raised a fabulous £379.90 so far from her London Moon Walk in May – Well done Sharon!
Whilst in car or sitting in direct sunlight do ensure that the affected limb is covered. Those of you who enjoy gardening, wear gardening gloves (if your arm is affected) and appropriate foot wear (if your legs are affected) – this tip is not just for summer but all year round too. Use insect repellent to prevent insect bites as they can lead to inflammation and infection. If you’re stung on, or near, the affected area treat straight away with an antiseptic solution/wipe. You will need to seek further medical advice if the area becomes red, hot, and painful alongside flu like symptoms Avoid extreme temperatures. Too much heat can increase swelling. Test the

What can happened to the children when parents separate...
It is now essential for there to be a referral to mediation before an application to court is made, indeed an application to court has to be signed by a mediator (there are some limited exceptions to this).
Family_Wordagram_2016.indd 1

Kira Arden - Head of family at Rudlings Wakelam explains.....
W
If mediation is not successful it may be necessary to seek legal advice and consider making an application to court for a Child Arrangements Order. That court process will encourage parents to reach an agreement which may then be encompassed within the terms of a court order. All of this can take a considerable amount of time whether it is reaching an agreement between parents, attending mediation and especially if an application to court is required. It is therefore important to plan well ahead of school holidays so that if an agreement is not reached there will be sufficient time to seek the necessary advice and assistance.
hen parents separate, whether they are married or not, it is important that they continue to care for their children together.
The vast majority of separating parents reach agreement between themselves as to arrangements for their children for example as to when they will see the parent they are not living with and as to what will happen during school holidays including the long summer and Christmas breaks. Some parents find it easier to have a written agreement between them that they can refer back to. If parents cannot reach an agreement between them they may need the assistance of family mediation. There are now many mediation services to choose from and parents can self-refer to such services. An experienced family mediator will help parents move towards the best arrangements for their children.
If an application to court is made and the court requires a report from the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (CAFCASS) this report can take many weeks to be prepared. Clearly it is in the very best interest of children that they can spend time with both parents but if you may need help in reaching an agreement or you have been unable to reach an agreement then we can help. Our team of experienced family lawyers, who are all members of resolution, can offer an initial fixed fee appointment for ÂŁ150 plus VAT. For further information please contact:

1 chicken breast (approx 180g), thinly sliced at an angle generous squeeze juice ½ lime ½ tsp mild chilli powder 1 garlic clove, chopped 1 tsp olive oil 2 seeded wraps 1 avocado, halved and stoned 1 roasted red pepper from a jar, sliced a few sprigs coriander, chopped
Method: Mix the chicken with the lime juice, chilli powder and garlic. Heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan then fry the chicken for a couple of mins – it will cook very quickly so keep an eye on it. Meanwhile, warm the wraps following the pack instructions or, if you have a gas hob, heat them over the flame to slightly char them. Do not let them dry out or they are difficult to roll. Squash half an avocado onto each wrap, add the peppers to the pan to warm them through then pile onto the wraps with the chicken, and sprinkle over the coriander. Roll up, cut in half and eat with your fingers. 44 | JULY 2016

What not to pack: 10 things you really shouldn’t take on holiday Be honest:
do you really need two outfits for every day of your trip? Go hand luggage only and read our tips for a trimmed-down packing list to find out what you absolutely shouldn’t take on holiday. 1. TOILETRIES
Take two bottles into the shower? Not us. Travel with only the holiday essentials from the bathroom, with all your shampoo, conditioner, face wash, aftersun and the rest decanted into 100ml plastic containers. If you’re flying, leave the big bottles and that pointless extra weight behind and you can even get past the liquids restrictions at security and take just a good size cabin bag on board. And remember – they do sell shampoo in Spain/Greece/Australia too!
2. HOLIDAY READING
We’re not talking War and Peace even a light and fluffy Katie Forde paperback will weigh down your bag and take up valuable space. You could take just a single book and once read, swap it with a fellow traveller. Many hotels will also have a ‘library’ where guests can take and leave their books. But the obvious answer is to forego your paper pleasures and take a Kindle. Just don’t drop it in the swimming pool.
3. CLOTHES (you bought at the
last minute) Well of course you need to take at least some clothes, but be ruthless. Be sure to try on everything you are taking before you leave to make sure it still fits and makes you happy. There is always the possibility that you lost your mind on that mad rush around town 52 | JULY 2016
purchasing your holiday wardrobe and that on-trend piece of statement jewellery will be an utter waste of space if you realise it doesn’t go with any of your outfits. Go for tried and tested favourites – no one in Corfu will know if it’s the 236th time it’s been worn.
4. VALUABLES
Even if your hotel room has a safe and 24hr security, there is still plenty of opportunity for the loss of your most treasured possessions. Leave objects of economic or sentimental importance in the jewellery drawer at home. It’s not worth it.
5. YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD/DRINK
It’s hard to get a decent cup of tea in France. So, if you are self-catering on a budget, taking a measured number of teabags is judicious. Seriously though, come on, you’re going on holiday! Immerse yourself in new, unfamiliar cultures. Leave the home comforts of good old Blighty a distant dream.
6. HAIR STRAIGHTENERS Everyone knows that hair straighteners are an essential. Not on holiday. Leave those hotplates at home and imagine the freedom when you embrace a policy of bed/ beach hair to go with your glowing tan. An artfully dishevelled mane is as trendy as flowing flowery dresses in the summertime. Look like you’ve just stepped out of the waves, not the salon.
7. TOWELS
Most hotels of a certain standard provide towels, so leave yours hanging over a door at home. A real dilemma is beach towels – do you snaffle the hotel’s fluffy white bath towels and get them all sandy?
8. GUIDEBOOKS
Great reference material though it is, your coffee table read ‘Europe on a Shoestring’ or ‘The Photographic Guide to the Countries of the World’ should stay right there. Get them on your e-reader. Or, if you must have real paper, photocopy the relevant chapters or pages, and throw away each sheet once you’ve used it to lighten your load as you move on.
9. PROPER SHIRTS
There might be an occasion on your holiday where collar and cuffs are required - dining under the stars on a rooftop terrace at a six-star hotel in Dubai perhaps - but its nigh-on impossible to keep your Sunday best in tip-top shape in transit. Stick to tees or casual shirts that can be neatly rolled or folded and wearable straight from the case.
10. FIREWORKS...
...and other restricted items are not okay. Double-check you’re not taking anything ill-advised onto the plane!
Happy Holidays!

Bin It
BY ANDREW SOUTHWOOD
I
t’s Fathers Day morning and I’m out with my three beasts having some quality Daddy playtime. We decided to venture to the newly opened play area, opposite the new high school/building site on Moreton Hall, and see what it had to offer. Experience has taught me 8:30am on a Sunday is generally a good time to go to these places. After all, having a 2 year old fixated with swings, the risk of them being occupied is just too great during peak hours! I’ve also found that keeping tabs on three kids in empty parks is far easier than busy ones. Sadly, what we were greeted with was not really what I had in mind. In a word – ‘litter’. Or more accurately, in three words - ‘lots of litter’. An utter disgrace. Another Dad with his young son was there litter picking, trying to make sense of it all. I found a load of half burnt school exercise books, fully named etc. which I have followed up with the
54 | JULY 2016
school – although of course the pupils in question will be leavers. How is it that even here, in beautiful Bury St Edmunds, there are kids that behave this way? The dumping/ burning of school notes is one thing, a sort of forgivable ‘one off’ stupid act, no doubt goaded on by their piers. But the sack full of coke cans, crisp packets and wrappers collected in a few minutes is more worrying. At what point do they decide tossing their rubbish on the floor is acceptable? And to make matters even worse, we are talking about an amazing new facility, just opened, in their community... for them! My kids are young, and don’t understand (not that I do) what motivates the litter louts. I try to explain but it’s tough to know what to say. “The thing to remember”, I say, “is that it may be only a small number of inconsiderate people, not everyone that comes here”.
Although deep down I fear the proportion of offenders may be much higher than I infer. I’m not a perfect parent (I know many of you will be shocked by this!). My little ones are taught right from wrong and hopefully have reasonable manners, although they are usually too shy to use them. However, if I ever found out that they had been responsible for mindless littering I would be mortified. It’s right up there with, saying please, or not hitting, on my list of things they learn from year zero up. I can only hope that these youngsters grow out of this phase and become normal adults with at least some basic social skills and common sense. In the meantime this has motivated me to work extra hard to ensure none of my brood ever behave that way, even when they reach the teenage rebellious stage. End of rant.

WELCOME TO THIS MONTH’S CRAFTY COLUMN.
Every month I share a crafty activity to try at home. I’m Michelle and I own the crafty foxes. I run adult and children’s workshops, children’s crafty parties, after school clubs, hen-dos and a wedding/events mobile crafty creche.
This month the crafty foxes have teamed up with Bury In Bloom to celebrate their 30 year anniversary with a ‘crafty can’ competition. Keep an eye out for more information and check out www.facebook.com/thecraftyfoxes.buryinbloom.
With this in mind this month’s creation is making a bunch of tissue paper flowers... 2
Stack the 12 sheets together. Fold accordionstyle. Crease each fold.
3
Fold the strip of tissue paper in half and cut a round scallop edge at both ends.
4
60 | JULY 2016
Fold pipe cleaner in half and slip over the middle of the folded tissue paper. Twist tightly.
5
6
Gently separate and fluff each layer of tissue paper, pulling to the centre of one side only. Be gentle and tease it out. Make sure you tease out right from the centre to get the most out of the paper. Repeat on other side to make flower even and full.
Wrap the end of the pipe cleaner around the top of the stick to give some ridgidity. Use different colours of tissue paper to make a bunch of flowers and place in a jam jar.

garden confidential BY PAUL CLARKE
PAULS PLANT OF THE MONTH
Abelia Floribunda
When Spring is over there can be a lack of colour in the garden so well worth considering is one of the 30 Abelia species. One of the most spectacular is the Abelia Floribunda. The blooms appear from July to October in dense, cerise clusters throughout the plant. Each flower is tubular in shape and approximately 5cm long. Abelia floribunda will perform best in a sunny position but will cope with semi-shade if need be. They can grow between 2.5 to 4 metres high and wide. So if they outgrow their space or just need shaping they can be trimmed back immediately after flowering. In all areas they can be prone to frost, Abelia floribunda will require the protection of horticultural fleece in late autumn which can then be removed in late spring.
62 | JULY 2016
What to do in your garden in July At the recent Hidden Gardens event in Bury I met a lady from Plant Heritage. I was struck by the rarity of some plant species. The Plant Guardian scheme is aimed at anyone who would like to get involved in garden plant conservation but doesn’t have the space or time to own a National Plant Collection. If anyone has a rare or threatened plant in their garden they can sign up as a Plant Guardian, so that there is a formal record of the plant. The plant can then be propagated to ensure its future conservation. As gardeners I guess we are all doing our bit for conservation. On July 17th from 10am to 5pm there is a Suffolk Nurseries Plant Fair at Fullers Mill Garden at West Stow.

pauls jobs for the month Flower Garden • You can collect seeds from many flowers including aquilegias, primulas poppies lupins and foxgloves at this time of year. When the seedheads are dry and ready to split cut the heads off into a paper bag and sow immediately into a tray of seed compost • It is best to cut flowers from the garden early morning with a sharp secateurs. They will keep longer if you cut at an angle and immerse straight into a bucket of water or vase. • Give your potted plants a makeover. Remove any weeds and dig out the first 3-6cm of old soil. Replace with new compost and the plant will benefit from this tonic. • Feed dahlias once a week with a liquid tomato feed. You will need to stake taller varieties and pinch out the growing tips of smaller types to encourage bushy growth
• Pick sweet peas regularly to encourage continued flowering
Lawn Maintenance • Regularly cut the lawn but don’t scalp it instead keep the height of the mower fairly high
Vegetable & Fruit Garden • Mulch rhubarb once the harvesting of the stalks is over • Harvest herbs regularly to keep them bushy and stop them going to seed • Do you regularly have problems with black fly ? Then consider planting nasturtiums as a companion plant among broadbeans ,runner beans and other crops. • You can harvest garlic once the foliage dies down.
• Pinch out the tips of runner beans when they reach the top of the canes • Thin out beetroot seedlings to around 5cm apart to ensure your beetroots grow to a decent size • If you are growing outdoor tomatoes then it is a good idea to cut back the main growing stem when you have around 4-5 trusses.
General Maintenance • Use left over water in a freshly boiled kettle to trickle over any weeds in your block paving this should kill them in a few days • Remove Tree suckers from the base of trees.
This months poem...
“What has happened to summer, That’s what I want to know. Is she on a vacation Who knows where did she go? Tell, what was she wearing; A zephyr breeze and rosebud Or grass and wild berry? Could she be honeymooning With spring or early fall Or has she gone so far away. She’ll not return at all?“

Young Suffolk furniture designer wins special commendation A young Suffolk furniture designer has won top plaudits from one of the finest furniture schools in Europe, and is setting up his own woodworking business in his home town. Adam Bragg (19) from Bury St Edmunds has just graduated from the Chippendale International Furniture School in central Scotland, which only takes a limited number of students each year. After leaving school in 2015, Adam was accepted into the renowned Chippendale school to study furniture design, making and restoration, along with 23 other students from around the world. Adam Bragg first started woodworking from a young age, and has always had a passion for working with his hands. At age 13, he inherited his grandfather’s lathe and began making small turnings, which have him the inspiration to pursue woodworking as a career. As well as bespoke furniture making and antique restoration, Adam specialises in the refurbishment of gunstocks - an almost forgotten trade. usic is another of his great passions and he M has already handcrafted several electric guitars which he has successfully sold for clients across the world.
joinery, to modern veneering techniques and finishes. Adam also wanted something that combined his love of the countryside that he grew with, with his passion for woodwork and carpentry. His drinks cabinet has an antique design and features elegant, solid walnut tapered legs, with traditional Chippendale-inspired boxwood line inlay. The curved doors feature a detailed marquetry shooting scene, entirely hand cut. The curved, solid sycamore interior drawers are all constructed using hand-cut dovetail joinery. The drawers were painstakingly shaped to match the curved profile on the front of the cabinet. “I love all kinds of woodworking and want to design and make pieces that people will cherish and which will become family heirlooms,” said Adam.
“I can make guitars to traditional designs or, working with clients, design and make something that is utterly unique, and an expression of them as a musician,” said Adam.

He is now setting up Adam Bragg Craftsmanship in Bury St Edmunds, with a view to designing and making bespoke furniture – and to offer a shotgun restoration service.
Anselm Fraser, principal of the Chippendale International School of Furniture, said that Adam was a “very special furniture designer whose craftsmanship and attention to detail are second to none. He graduated with our commendation as a furniture designer to watch.”

Hellooo Homies!
Hope you’re well, I’ve been enjoying the little patches of sun we’ve been having! Hope you all enjoy reading this month’s articles, maybe you’re in the sun reading it?

iRing
I love this creation! This is my favourite new life hack. It cuts down on the chances of you dropping your phone. It is called an ‘iRing’. It is basically a ring stuck onto a piece of plastic that you attach to the back of your phone. All you have to do is peel off a sticky label that is on the back and gently place it onto your phone, push it down and you are good to go! They are inexpensive, I bought mine off of eBay. They come in all different colours and some of them are marbled. I bought a pink and a turquoise one with my pocket money.
garland bunting Personally, I think these are super cute, to give a bit more jazz to the room. They are garland bunting! All it is is tissue paper rolled up with a couple of slits, taped together, put on a piece of string and hung up. They are also very fun to make, and only take around 15-20 minutes to make, depending how long you make yours. What you will need is: tissue paper, scissors, tape and string. Firstly, fold you tissue paper so that it is in a long rectangle and depending if you have the same colour or how many you want cut it into sections. Secondly, twist that, so that it looks like a
stick, and get your scissors to make some slits. After that, just tape the top, then tape it to the string and you are good to go. The colours I chose to do were pink, purple and blue.
Update on the rabbits
You’ve all met my rabbits Rascal and Jeffery before well, it is their 1st birthday this month! It is their birthday on the 10th. I have got a few prezzies for them! The rabbits are both very well, but sadly, still don’t get along! They now have separate hutches, Rascal has the original one and Jeffrey has a new one. They are both two storey hutches so they can enjoy chewing grass or hopping up the stairs to be cosy! Both of the buns like it when their runs are attached to the front of their hutches – Jeffery is a good lawn mower! 66 | JULY 2015

Summer Activities Summer’s finally here (apparently) and soon the children will be breaking up for their long summer break! Last month we touched on holiday clubs and camps that you could take them to when you wanted somebody else to entertain your little darlings. This month, I am going to give you my top 10 list of things to do together in and around Bury St Edmunds! We all have children here in the Directory office and, alongside fitting our work in, we are all getting excited about spending some quality time with our small people while they are off school! With all the rain we’ve had lately, I am certain we are due weeks and weeks of bright sunshine...back in the real world; however, I will make sure I include some ‘wet play’ ideas as well! Happy summer everyone!
1
1. Hop on the train a train and visit another local town or village – my 3 really enjoy a short train ride and very often children can travel for free! Pack up a picnic if you don’t want to go to the expense of eating out and go and explore a new place, new parks, shops or museums!
Crafty fun at home! Now, this is a little out of my personal comfort zone with all the 22. associated mess, so I generally save this one for a dry day where they can go nuts with paints/glue/chalk/goo etc IN THE GARDEN!! Set up so simple activities for them to try (there are plenty of ideas and help online) and enjoy making and being crafty together! a day at Ickworth House Park & Gardens. We could spend days and days here! 33. Spend My children aren’t particularly interested in looking around the house, but the grounds are amazing! You can walk/bike for miles, build dens, climb trees, have a picnic, enjoy tasty treats in the café or grab yourself a chair, sit back, relax and watch the children enjoy the play park! The fabulous volunteers at the National Trust also offer craft sessions throughout the holidays with plenty of crafty things to make and do which starts from 22nd July and runs throughout the summer! Check out their website for more info www.nationaltrust.org.uk/ickworth raining outside but the children have unlimited energy?? Fear not – Planet Laser offer 44. It’s unlimited Laser sessions throughout the school holidays. They can rush about shooting laser guns at each other whilst you enjoy a coffee! For the more adventurous parent, why not relive your youth and join in as well!! Having recently visited and joined in myself, I can honestly report that it IS as fun as I remember it being as a child…more tiring, but fun!! Smaller people who aren’t big enough for the Laser arena can enjoy mini bowling and the joys of the arcades. Go to www.planetlaser.co.uk for more information. 68 | JULY 2016

PARKS PARKS PARKS!! My top 2 local parks have to be Nowton and The 55. Abbey Gardens! Again, pack up a picnic and make a day of it! The maze at Nowton is a favourite in our family and visiting the ruins in Abbey Gardens never fails to entertain. Challenge your small person to find the skull…
summer I discovered the fun of a day at Santon Downham. Follow 66. Last the road from Thetford towards High Lodge and follow signs to Santon
Downham. There is plenty of space to park and there is lots of unspoilt nature to explore! Take your swimming gear and enjoy playing in the river. My children saved up their pocket money and bought themselves an inflatable boat which they used to row up and down which provided hours of summer fun!! Please do be careful, however, as even the most confident of pool swimmers can get into trouble in rivers! back to NATURE! The Suffolk Wildlife Trust have some fantastic places 77. toGetexplore with your children this summer. Go along for some woodland fun at Bradfield Woods - With various trails to follow, there is one to suit all sized legs (even very little ones!!) Enjoy a game of hide and seek or manhunt amongst the trees – even in the rain this can be fun! Just grab your wellies and wet weather gear and get out!! Woods not for you? Maybe a bit of pond dipping at Knettishall Heath or Lackford Lakes then?? Not only is it fun but educational as well! www.suffolkwildlifetrust.org
88. A day at the beach!! Although you will have to drive to get there, we are
very lucky that there are lots of nice beaches not too far away. The closest is probably Felixstowe, however, my personal favourite is Wells-Next-The-Sea in Norfolk. With a vast sandy beach and shallow dunes, on a sunny day, it is just perfect so get your buckets and spades and get yourself to the beach!
High Lodge at Thetford Forrest. Although you have to pay to park, if you 99. plan to visit on a regular basis, the discovery pass makes it really reasonable
10
and certainly worth it for the year! There is so much to do here with excellent play equipment, space for games and picnics and you can even hire a BBQ for the afternoon! It is also the home to GoApe where all your little monkeys (from 1m tall) can test their love of heights on the tree top adventure. Go to www.forestry.gov.uk/highlodge for further details. Fun at the farm! Visit a local farm – see how a real farm works, feed the animals and play! There are a variety of good farm parks that are open to the public. My top 2 are Jimmy’s Farm near Ipswich and Hollow Trees Farm in Semer. For details go to www.jimmysfarm.com or www.hollowtrees.co.uk.
I hope that you find some of these ideas useful! Whatever you choose to do this summer with the children enjoy your time… I hear its over in a flash!!

About Ormiston Families In 1969 Fiona Ormiston Murray and her husband were tragically killed in a car accident on their honeymoon. The Murray Family established the Ormiston Trust to create a living memorial to a woman who loved children but was denied the chance to have her own. Ormiston opened its first service in 1981, (the Robert Milne Family Centre), a former Barnardo’s home in Ipswich. By 1992, Ormiston Children and Families Trust was established to manage an increasingly diverse range of services for children, young people and families, and have been supporting families across East of England ever since. The Charity, Ormiston Families, delivers four core programmes in the East of England: • The Nurture Programme supports the development of children in their early years. • The Engage Programme improves outcomes for young people in education. • The Unite Programme helps families affected by imprisonment. • The Connect Programme supports children, young people and their families in the community. Transforming Rehabilitation aims to achieve the following outcomes: • Establish, or maintain positive family relationships. • Reduce the impact of offending on children. • Build protective factors within the service user’s social network to break intergenerational cycles of offending, including domestic abuse. Ways in which this service strengthens the family unit and support rehabilitation are: • Improve the communication between family members. • Provide the family with a platform to express their feelings. • Improve the family’s confidence and ability in supporting and helping each other. • Provide parenting support to improve parenting strategies and skills. The service is delivered by: • One-to-one assessment and ongoing mentoring with a dedicated family support worker. • Maintaining Family Ties group sessions in the community and prisons, with the aim of exploring impact of offending on relationships. • Volunteer mentoring: local volunteers matched to work with service users and/or their family. • Family mediation: work with other family members to improve communication and resolve conflict. • Parenting programmes: one-to-one or group work interventions dependent upon availability and suitability. Ultimately, the aim is to keep families together and help offenders to take positive steps to rebuild their lives. This is a very short summary of the creditable work that Ormiston Families is involved with in helping children and their families, and we would really appreciate your support to help raise funds for this worthy local charity to continue their positive work across East of England. If you would like any more information please visit their website. www.ormiston.org

CHURCH NEWS
Christ Church MORETON HALL Once again I find myself in the strange position of writing an article when momentous events are about to happen and I don’t know the outcome. Whatever I write here will seem outdated and irrelevant once we know the results. There are two things dominating our thinking at the moment. One is the outcome of the referendum, “To leave or not to leave – that is the question” (to paraphrase Shakespeare), and of course England’s progress in the European Cup.
either totally convinced by the flimsiest of evidence or, more like me, somewhat confused by who to believe and what is the truth. It is so sad that the debate has degenerated into little more than a slanging match.
That is why the tragic death of Jo Cox has brought everything into sharp relief. to kill other people over the uncertainties of the future? I hope in the last few days it will lead to a more measured response and sober consideration and prayer by everyone who votes. As I sit down with my family evening after evening to watch some of the football, I am struck by the thought of the billions of pounds paid in tickets, salaries, advertising and organisation, just so a few people can kick a football about and win a title which is quickly forgotten, (how many people can remember the European champions of thirty years ago, twenty years ago or even ten years ago). One begins to wonder about what we see as a priority in our lives. Perhaps that is the point of football tournaments; they are a distraction from the horrors that are all around us every day. The other thing is that I am struck that the death of one person changed everything for everybody. Jesus Christ’s death opened a way from the certainty of death to the promise of eternal life

with God in heaven. As a Christian, my future is secured. Whatever the outcome of the referendum or the European tournament, I know that, because I put my trust in Christ, my future is secure. It may not be as financially secure as I would like, but it is secure. It may not be as comfortable or as rich as I would like, but it is secure. Best of all, my final resting place is secure. Because Jesus rose from the dead I am absolutely confident there is a heaven and there is a special life for me, a believer, when I die. Once you grasp that point, lots of other things like football tournaments and the referendum, seem to fall away. That is the central message of Christianity; what happens when we die. Because one person has died everything has changed.

Jairo Barrull Flamenco Company present -
GITANO (dance) Sunday 2nd October 2016 Time: 7.30pm Venue: The Apex, 1 Charter Square, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. Jairo Barrull Flamenco Company present ‘Gitano’ with special guest Gema Moneo. Jairo Barrull Fernández (1983, Seville), son of Ramón Barrull, grandson of Tony El Gitano and great great nephew of the flamenco guitarist Diego del Gastor, is heir and creator of his own style of Andalusian Gypsy flamenco dance. Jairo explains, “For me the Gypsy art form is a specific way of feeling and expressing oneself. There isn’t any other word that describes me better in flamenco dance. There are various factors that have influenced why I identify with the gypsy dance form, but the most important is when an artist identifies his or her art form with that certain way of expressing, that is what defines them artistically and I have always felt this way. The Gypsy dance form evolves because we don’t dance how Gypsy dancers used to dance 40 years ago but the feeling is the same. A feeling doesn’t have an expiry date, not with the different fashions that come and go. The pure feeling is always there because it is authentic.” Barrull started to dance under the direction of his father when he was 7 years old and he started his professional dance career when he was 13 years old. In 1997 he danced in front of the Pope John Paul II in the Paul VI Auditorium, The Vatican, Rome, in the show ‘Un Gitano de Ley’, for the beatification of Ceferino Jiménez Malla ‘El Pele’. At 16 years of age he had already worked with some of the greatest flamenco icons in the world such as ‘El Chocolate’, ‘Angelita Vargas’, ‘Farruquito’, ‘Concha Vargas’ and ‘Arcangel’. He has collaborated in numerous flamenco shows including ‘Incognito’ by Francis Brunn which premiered at the Opera Theatre of Frankfurt, ‘La Sinfonía Flamenca’ at the National Orchestra of Lyons Auditorium, ‘Magia de Maestros’ Berliner Philharmonie and ‘Al-Andalus’ that toured North America and Argentina in the Theatre Avenida. The show will open with ‘Bulerías’ and will continue with the flamenco styles that according to Barrull are the core of Gypsy flamenco dance – ‘Alegrías’, ‘Seguiriya’ and ‘Soleá’. The show will also feature guest artist Gema Moneo, niece of the famed flamenco singer Juan Moneo ‘El Torta’ from Jerez de la Frontera. At just 24 years old Gema has already toured the world and participated in several prestigious flamenco festivals such as La Bienal de Sevilla, The Festival de Jerez and the Flamenco Festival of London. In 2010 she joined Farruquito’s company and danced in two of his shows ‘El Baile Flamenco’ and ‘Sonerías’. More recently in 2014 Gema joined Joaquín Cortés’ company and later that year performed in the show ‘Con Carmen Amaya en la memoria’ in Barcelona alongside Pastora Galvan and Karime Amaya. Jairo and Gema will be accompanied by flamenco singers El Quini de Jerez and José ‘El Pechuguita’, flamenco guitarist Eugenio Iglesias and percussionist Paco Vega. Starring Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley, Julia Sawalha, June Whitfield, Jane Horrocks Eddy and Patsy finally make their riotous bigscreen debut – older but none the wiser!
Created by Jennifer Saunders, British sitcom Absolutely Fabulous swiftly ascended the ranks of all-time-great comedy shows. The show introduced us to hilariously self-obsessed PR agent Edina ‘Eddy’ Monsoon (Saunders) and her even more grotesque magazine editor friend Patsy Stone (Joanna Lumley) in their neverending quest to stay young and relevant. Now, the unforgettable twosome finally make their big screen debut in the long-awaited Ab Fab movie, which picks up with Eddy and Patsy still attempting to claw back their youth. When a bizarre accident results in the death of supermodel Kate Moss however, the two must flee to the French Riviera! Several old favourites from the show return including Eddie’s long-suffering daughter Saffy (Julia Sawalha), sarcastic Mother (June Whitfield) and the brilliantly air-headed Bubble (Jane Horrocks). Making cameos are the likes of Jon Hamm, Rebel Wilson and Gwendoline Christie.

THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS
PG
Director Chris Renaud, Yarrow Cheney Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Albert Brooks, Lake Bell, Ellie Kemper The makers of Despicable Me present a delightful new adventure focusing on our beloved animal companions. Max (voiced by Louis C.K.) is a pampered terrier living the high life with his owner Katie in a swish Manhattan apartment. When their owners are away, Max and his fellow animals love to engage in non-pet behaviour including raiding the fridge for decidedly tastier food. However, his routine is turned upside down when Katie brings back a slobbering mutt named Duke (Eric Stonestreet) from the pound to come and live with them. Nevertheless, these two squabbling pooches must learn to get on when they end up lost in New York. It’s time for an animal posse, led by Pomeranian Gidget (Jenny Slate) to find their friends and save the day.
THE CONJURING 2 15 Director James Wan
Starring Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Frances O’Connor, Simon McBurney, Franka Potente Ghost hunters Ed and Lorraine Warren confront the Enfield poltergeist in this spine-tingling sequel. In 2013 ghostly chiller The Conjuring presented us with real-life ghostbusting duo Ed and Lorraine Warren as they led an investigation into a deadly haunting. The movie turned out to be an unexpected smash hit around the world. Now, they’re back to tackle another truly frightening case of paranormal activity, this time taking place in a seemingly ordinary London home. When the Hodgson family find themselves the unwanted targets of intense and often violent supernatural phenomena, they turn to the Warrens (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) for help. What ensues is to become the Warrens’ most terrifying case ever. Based on the notorious Enfield poltergeist hauntings that caused a media sensation in the late 1970s, director James Wan’s spooky sequel promises to have audiences watching through their fingers as the Warrens once more confront evil from beyond the grave.
The creators of the Despicable Me movies and Minions show us what our pets get up to behind closed doors in this funny and endearing animated adventure.
