BENCH

Having been kept clean and tidy it has been agreed that the seat or bench shall remain, we are going out for quotes to have it repainted, hopefully not as it is now, but perhaps a nice green to blend in with the area. Still awaiting quotes.

BOY RACERS

I am sure some of you may have listened to Rwsfm 105.3 (radio west Suffolk your local radio for Bury St Edmunds) where Julie MacLeod had Tim Passmore the Police Commissioner, he answered questions put to him by Julie on behalf of the residents of Moreton Hall who suffer from these mindless idiots. Tim assured us that he will be speaking to the powers to be about this ongoing problem. Some cautions have been given out, about six I believe but more needs to be done. Another point raised was the call line 101, people have been put on hold for up to 20 minutes before getting an answer only to be told there is nothing can done about it, Mr Passmore did tell Julie that if it’s fireworks in the early hours of the morning you should ring 999. There you have it straight from the horse’s mouth. We will be keeping a very close eye on this matter and see what’s going on.

GREEN GYM

Only opened three weeks ago and already emails of complaints, one lady complains that she loves the gym but does not feel she can use it because it’s always full of young children. Hopefully this will be sorted when the new children’s play area is erected and opened. I might at this time remind parents that the equipment does state only persons over 14 should use the equipment and then with supervision, we are not responsible for any injuries or damage, another complaint was the state of the equipment and area Peter is getting a litter bin put up next to the gym but just like any other indoor or outdoor gym always have a towel to clean before and after you use the equipment. Please enjoy and use the gym. Please remember all your councillors are doing their best to keep your estate clean and safe for you and your families and they are volunteers.

Well that’s all for now, until next time take care, Frank Warby NOVEMBER 2017 | 11

CHURCH NEWS

Christ Church MORETON HALL As November spins round again so quickly, we have much to remember and much to look forward to. In looking forward, obviously we have already begun that hard and exacting journey towards Christmas when there are just so many things to remember and to achieve so that we can enjoy the festival and the holiday in a way that is appropriate to all involved. Of course, November one hundred years ago is very important as we remember the First World War. November 1917 was very important for two reasons one, of course, is the anniversary of the Russian revolution which led to the Soviet Union and Russia’s early exit from the First World War and a near German victory in 1918. The second is the British and Empire troops advancing up through what was then Palestine and is now Israel, as they began an assault which ended in the capture of Jerusalem and the liberation of the Holy Land. It is worth noting that one of the units involved in this was a battalion of the Suffolks, along with troops from countries as far away as Australia and India as they liberated the city which is so important to Christians, Jews and Arabs. It must have been a wonderful thing to go to towns and cities like Bethlehem and Jerusalem which for nearly one thousand years had been impossible to visit because of Turkish rule. So this Remembrance Sunday, which will be celebrated across the town as well as on Moreton Hall, we will be commemorating not only those who died in two World Wars and those who have died in all wars subsequently, but also that special band of men and women who enabled 82 | NOVEMBER 2017

Bethlehem and Jerusalem to become places of pilgrimage for the whole world. Which leads us neatly back to the preparations for Christmas. One of the best ways of celebrating the true meaning of Christmas is to get involved with our annual Shoebox appeal. Our special service will be on 26th November. We already have had a significant number of shoeboxes come in. If you want one, please contact the church and we will provide it for you to fill with good things - toys, clothes, toiletries, for children and young people who otherwise would have nothing. It helps if you can also make a voluntary donation towards transport cost. We will take your shoebox and donation along with many others to the Ipswich depot on 27th November. Last year we managed to collect in excess of 800 boxes. This year our target is 1,000. I do hope you will be able to support us in this way as so many of you have in years past. We are doing a number of events in preparation for Christmas please see the special list with the November services. There is one thought, a verse from Jesus to be found in the book of Acts, which sums up both the sacrifice of the many in two World Wars as well as the true nature of Christmas in the past and today. The Lord Jesus Christ said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive’. I pray you will be able to give proper remembrance to all these important dates and also to give something of yourself so that others can enjoy Christmas as much as we do.

With every good wish, Yours sincerely, Revd. Canon Jonathan Ford. Minister Christ Church Moreton Hall
