Hello and welcome to the July issue! What a busy month we have had with the football! So far, as I am writing this, we are still in with a chance! But by the time you read this we may have been knocked out, fingers crossed we have done better than last time though! Enough of football! rickshaw rides
You will have seen from the press and social media that the Bury St Edmunds Rickshaw had a very successful launch with passengers being taken for rides around the town by the fully trained volunteers. I had the pleasure of taking it to Riverwalk School, much to the delight of the children who had rides around the playground and the rickshaw will be returning there for Suffolk Day. Star attraction was the large red bell! The aim of the rickshaw was to help ease social isolation and the less able bodied by giving a free bike ride and in return raise a smile and goodness me have we had some very big smiles from our passengers! Solar Together Suffolk Solar Together Suffolk is an exciting new group buying solar panel scheme for residents, businesses and communities across the county. Solar Together Suffolk aims to get the best possible price available on solar panel installations by consolidating the buying power of participants in the scheme. The scheme has recently launched and it is currently open for registration at:
www.solartogethersuffolk.co.uk. Solar Together Suffolk represents great value through a quality-assured, Council-backed offer. It has the benefit of increasing renewable energy generation, leveraging private investment into the local renewable energy industry (local installer companies are being encouraged to participate) and raising the profile of solar energy locally. With the efficiency of solar panels increasing and the price of panels falling, now is a great time to not only save money but also help the environment. The scheme has been successfully delivered in Norfolk and in London earlier this year and we are partnering with both Essex County Council and Norwich City Council in this round. Previous schemes have realised a 20-35% saving on the
current market price whilst ensuring quality levels are high. This saving is achieved from the economies of scale the scheme offers to installer companies. Our partner iChoosr have considerable experience of running this scheme across Europe for a number of years. The installed panels will be the property of the homeowner, business or community group. Suffolk County Council will have oversight of the process, performance and any complaints should these arise. Solar Together Suffolk will be sending letters to 150,000 Suffolk residents during the week commencing 2nd July 2018, as part of our communications plan to promote the scheme. Potential participants are encouraged to sign up for a free no-obligation quotation until the auction closes at the end of August. Installation of the panels will take place from October through to February ahead of the closure of the Feed-in-Tariff scheme to new applicants on April 1st 2019. SOUTHGATE Community NEWS FROM THE PARTNERSHIP
We received a lot of complaints from local residents about the state of the grass in front of the Hardwick Shopping Precinct. In conjunction with Cllr Sarah Stamp, we put pressure on Blair Estates, the owners of the area, who responded with a very belated first cut of the season in late May. We will monitor the situation carefully from now onwards!

Our montage this month features Southgate Church which transforms the Community Centre every Sunday into a place of worship and welcome a congregation from the whole community. The Church organise hugely popular events throughout the year including Southgate Got Christmas and Easter, and the week long themed Summer Holiday Children’s Club – this year on 28-31 August: CALLING ALL SUPERHEROES! See poster. The Church was one of the founding members of the SCP and is vey committed to serving the local community in so many different ways.

W hat’s been happening at...
HARDWICK Primary School This month has been a sporting extravaganza with the annual Healthy Living Week where we learnt about healthy eating and how to live healthy and active lifestyles. The new Multi Use games Area was officially opened by the Mayor of St Edmundsbury Cllr Margaret Marks who was most impressed with the activities taking place throughout her visit on the playing field. The week culminated with the traditional Sports days won by the Red Team on both days. Huge congratulations to coach Dan Farrow and his Year 3 team that took part in the Suffolk Accident and Rescue Service (SARS) World Cup Football Festival against 16 teams from throughout Suffolk at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club. The Hardwick Hawks were outstanding and handsomely won the charity tournament to much acclaim. Earlier in the month Early Years held a delightful May Fair with activities, stalls and maypole dancing, more recently Upper KS2 stepped back in time all dressed in splendid costumes visiting Kentwell Hall at Long Melford for the annual Tudor experience. Finally again the happy announcement of a new arrival for a member of staff at school, congratulations to Mr Williams who is on paternity leave after the birth of baby Finley. Two months after starting at Sybil Andrews Academy, we caught up with headteacher Trenica King to see how it is going‌ What has your first few months as headteacher been like? I have really enjoyed my first few months in school. I have found the students, staff and parents I have met to be very welcoming.
What attracted you to Sybil Andrews Academy? Many things. Most importantly, the amazing students and staff. However, we are also lucky enough to have a fantastic and inspiring building. I am excited by the thought of being able to help build the future plans for both the new buildings and how our school will be.
What has impressed you most about the school? The students’ attitudes towards their futures. So many of the students I talk to have high aspirations and many already know what they would like their future careers to be. They know that a good education will help them on their way and I see how motivated and committed they are to getting the most out of what the school can offer. I am also impressed with the staff that I have the pleasure of working alongside. Just this week I had the pleasure of meeting an amazing group of parents at our Parents Forum it was wonderful to see how generous they were with their time and helpful feedback.
What has surprised you most about Sybil Andrews Academy? How much has been achieved in such a short period of time. The school should be rightly pleased of how well they have managed their setup phase. There is so
much to be proud of and so much more than can be done as we continue to grow. I was also surprised and really enjoyed meeting the many Year 5 and 6 students I have met at our transition days and welcome interviews.
What are the most important attributes of a headteacher? To want the very best for their students and staff. To believe that each and every student that walks through the door has an amazing future and we are there to help them on their way. To ensure the very highest standards in their school and to be honest and open about what we already do wonderfully well and what we could still improve.
How will you be spending your summer holidays? Some of it in school working hard to ensure we are ready for September and some time away with my family to ensure that I am rested ready for an exciting new term at the school.
What are you looking forward to most about starting your first full school year at Sybil Andrews? Welcoming our new staff and students and welcoming back our existing staff and students. Seeing the start of our next phase of building which will start over the summer holidays. Getting to know the community and continuing to strengthen the links with our local primary schools.

Badgers in Moreton Hall
H
ave you ever seen a badger in Moreton Hall? As far as we know, there are no badger setts in Moreton Hall, but there is at least one badger colony in Rougham, well within walking range of a hungry badger looking for food. If you live on or near the top end of Mount Road, Lady Miriam Way, or work on the business park on Kempson Way or Rougham Tower Avenue , there’s a chance you might see a badger, or signs of a badger. Look out for latrines, a little pit with soft dropping in. Or maybe you might see a snuffle hole, where a badger has pushed its nose into the soil and rummaged around for worms. snuffle holes tend to be circular, with soil pushed out the hole all around the edge as the badger
pivots in a circle around its nose. Rabbit scrapes, on the other hand, can be distinguished from snuffle holes because rabbits scrap with their front feet, making a more linear scrape with all the soil on one side. Unlike badgers in western England, badgers here tend not to have TB, and there are few dairy cattle, so there’s no pressure to kill badgers here as there is in the west. There have been several badgers seen dead on main roads this spring and early summer, as young badger cubs start to explore. The number of badger roadkills is one way of monitoring badger numbers. No badger road kills means no badgers; lots of roadkills mean that there are lots of badgers in the area.

Taking place at Nowton Park on Sunday 15th July the day promises to be fun filled for the whole family!
The fun doesn’t stop there though; we have Mischief Doggy Day Care in Mildenhall joining us again with their Dachshund Dash, so if you have a sausage dog make sure you enter. Entry is just £2 per dog and races will start around 11am depending on entries.
The gates will open at 10am and admission is £5 per adult with concessions and children at £2.50. A family ticket is just £12 for up to four children.
East Anglian Dog Training Club are back again with agility displays and there is a chance for your dog to try its paw at recall and other fun games!
Our fun dog show starts at approximately 10.30am with 11 classes to enter, ending with the Champion of Champions. Each class costs £2 per entry and we would like to thank Moreton Hall Vets for, once again, joining us as judges.
Alongside all this doggy fun will be lots of stalls selling pet related goodies as well as a delicious food stands to suit all tastes. It’s also a great day for the children too as we have giant inflatables and games for them to try their hand at.

LSS’S NEW FUNDRAISING TARGET! LSS and WSALS are jointly fundraising to purchase a Lymph Scanner, which costs £3285, for use in clinic. The Lymph Scanner is a portable measuring device that can detect the water content in tissue, making it very useful in the detection, monitoring and treatment of lymphoedema. The Lymph Scanner is able to take rapid readings, helping clinical staff to quickly gain information on the regional distribution of Lymphoedema. This Lymph Scanner will provide positive benefits for both patient’s diagnosis and the managing of patient’s lymphoedema.

June saw us crown another major champion at the US OPEN. What a week it was at Shinnecock Hills but JULY see’s us move on to yet another major is time we are on home soil with THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP.
This years OPEN is being held at the amazing Carnoustie in Scotland. This is the most northerly course on The Open rota, Carnoustie has hosted golf’s oldest major on seven occasions. Carnoustie has a reputation for being the toughest venue on the rota with the demanding closing four holes being the scene of many dramatic Open moments.
Golf has been played at Carnoustie since the early 16th century. The course is long and narrow with penal bunkering that seeks to reward nothing less than top quality shot-making. Lastly, with the points list hotting up for Ryder Cup selection can a European win this event and book their place in Paris in September? First let’s talk about expectations with this club, it is for most people the second longest club they carry. This makes it harder to control than most, now factor in that you will need to strike it from the ground at times and we have a difficult shot. However, after speaking to a number of players we feel that they are trying to be too accurate with this shot. Let’s set the expectations at the width of the hole you are playing and be happy with the distance we recieve from using this club. Remember most of the time we are using this shot for the distance it brings us. SET UP for success with this shot, the set up of the body is going to be more like the driver. Slight more upright in your stance due the length of the club and with an in balance through the shoulders due to the ball position. Ball position, this will be different for different players. Make a few practice swings and see where YOUR swing brushes the ground. Then play the ball from this positon, we would in courage you to have the ball towards your lead foot but by how much is personal to YOUR swing. DRILL, once we are set up for success then we need to practice this action to gain confidence in it. A simple drill (seen in image) that allows you to practice without going to the range, just strike the tee pegs that are laying on the ground. They are low in profile and if you are striking them every time there is no reason why this fairway wood shot should now become a shot you play more. I am hidden so you cannot see me! People struggle to understand a condition they cannot immediately see, of which there are many. The invisibility of such illnesses present challenges when it comes to expressing the effects it has on ones life. Knowledge and understanding is the key to being able to interact with someone on the same level as everyone else. Creating opportunities to educate others on not simply looking at face value nor being so quick to judge each other, but to be kind with an open mind. Each day presents unique challenges to sufferers and the fact that the illness is invisible doesn’t make it any easier for others to understand. Many simply try to live in any which way their bodies will let them. Everyday your faced with scepticism from people who do not understand what is wrong with you. Lack of understanding of what that person is going through results in loss of friends and lack of sympathy and doubt is not the only uphill battle people with invisible illnesses have to climb. People may never relate to what you are going through and that’s why finding a support group of people with similar conditions can be so helpful. You are not alone as there are many others who need support and need to talk. Joining a support group is a great way to feel less isolated and lonely. Working towards finding something to distract you from your condition will enrich your life and inspire a positive outlook. This is a process of layering coloured tissue paper torn into strips across a card and building a picture by adding more tissue layers, images and shapes. Being creative has endless possibilities! We went to Casa to celebrate my Mum’s new house and had a brilliant time. My partner is coeliac and their awareness around gluten free foods and cross contamination was phenomenal. It also had a huge amount of dairy free and vegetarian/vegan foods. We had the set menu (all gluten free) which was delicious and fantastic value for money. We opted for the sangria to go with it which was great too. This is a real contender for the best restaurant in Bury St Edmunds (especially if you are gluten free)!

We literally walked past this restaurant whilst on a visit to Bury (live in Ipswich). We love tapas and booked a table immediately for lunch. Their weekday lunch menu is great - 3 tapas dishes plus drink for £13.95 - utterly delicious and staff were brilliant. We will find an excuse to return to Bury St Edmunds just to lunch here again - and may even go to one of their special evenings and book a hotel! Also we’re so helpful re my food allergies - a true find!

Strawberry Marshmallow Mousse Ingredients: 250g fresh strawberry, halved if large 25g caster sugar 140g mini marshmallow 200ml double cream
Method: Put all but 2 strawberries into a pan along with 100ml water and the sugar. Over a medium heat, cook strawberries until soft enough to mash, about 3 mins. Take off the heat and squash the berries, using a fork, until pulpy. Add the marshmallows, then stir them into the hot strawberries until they dissolve. Leave to cool. Whip the cream until it holds its shape. Fold the cream into the cooled strawberry mix, then spoon into one bowl or separate pots and chill for about 2 hrs, or until set. Cut the reserved strawberries in half and use to decorate. 34 | JULY 2018

Crab and Leek Tart Ingredients: For the pastry 100g/3½oz plain flour, plus extra for rolling 100g/3½oz wholemeal flour 125g/4oz cold butter, cubed 1 free-range egg, beaten For the filling knob of butter 2 medium leeks, trimmed, sliced thinly 50g/2oz butter 300ml half-fat crème fraîche 3 free-range eggs, beaten 100g/3½oz fresh brown crab meat Pinch sea salt flakes 100g/3½oz fresh white crab meat 50g/2oz mature cheddar, finely grated freshly ground black pepper

Method: Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6. For the pastry, pulse the flours and butter in a food processor until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. With the motor running, add the egg in a thin stream and blend until the mixture begins to form a ball. Roll the pastry into a circle on a floured work surface and use it to line a 23cm/9in loose-based fluted tart tin. Press the pastry with your fingertips firmly into the base and sides. Trim any excess pastry and lightly prick the base of the tart using a fork. Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes. Line the pastry with a large sheet of crumpled baking parchment and half fill with baking beans. Bake the tart case for 25 minutes. Remove the beans and return the tart to the oven for a further 5-10 minutes or until the surface is dry and beginning to brown. Remove from the oven and reduce the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4. For the filling, melt the butter in a large heavy-based frying pan over a low heat. Add the leeks and fry gently for 2-3 minutes, stirring until just softened. Remove from the heat and set aside. Put the eggs in a large jug and beat lightly with a whisk. Stir in the crème fraîche, season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Beat together with a wooden spoon until thoroughly combined. Stir in the brown crab meat. Scatter the leeks over the pastry case and dot the white crab meat around them. Pour over the crème friache mixture and sprinkle with the cheese. Cook on the baking tray for 25 minutes, or until the filling is golden-brown and just set. (It should still wobble a tiny bit in the centre as it will continue to set as it cools.) Remove the quiche from the oven and leave to cool in the tin for 15 minutes before removing. 38 | JULY 2018

Moreton Hall Youth U11 Football Team 2017/18 At the start of the season we were moving up from 7-a-side football to 9-a-side, which was a big step up for the boys. We had some new players join us for the season, which in turn meant that we required a new kit for the season.

I’m now over 1000 miles into my EV (electric vehicle) life, and I haven’t looked back.
Having chatted to lots of people over the course of this month, it’s clear to me there are still huge myths about EV ownership that are widespread amongst the general public. So, here I will try and tackle the main ones:
Isn’t the range of these things tiny? No. How many times a year do you drive for over 2 or 3 hours without stopping? My EV has a real world range of 160+ miles. Charging takes too long doesn’t it? No. You have several options for charging: Slow charge off a 3pin socket at home (10-12 hrs) Fast charge at home, or public car parks (3-5 hrs) Rapid charge at a service station (just 30 mins) Electricity is expensive, just like petrol. Not really. If you charge at home using Econ7, or similar, you will pay what equates to about 2p per mile. Many work places and public chargers are free or heavily subsidised. The most expensive charging will be at motorway service stations, where you pay a premium for speed (rapid)

and convenience, usually around twice the price of regular home charging. I doubt many of us would use them more than a few times a year. I actually don’t think I’ve paid more than £1 for my first 1000 miles, as I make use of free charging as much as possible.
The battery will need replacing in a few years wont it?
There are too many different charging networks.
They are too expensive.
Yes there are several different charging networks. You would decide which one/s suited your needs best. However, remember that most people do >95% of their charging at home anyway, so that’s not an issue. You are still using dirty electricity so there’s no net environmental benefit. Not true. The majority of EV charging networks claim to use 100% renewable energy, and if you get a green tariff at home you can do the same.
No. My battery has an 8 year guarantee against significant deterioration. Most first generation EV’s are still going strong, outperforming their predicted lifespan.
If you are like the majority of people and pay a monthly figure to run/own a car then there is almost no difference to an equivalent conventional car. No tax, no congestion charging, and hugely reduced fuel and servicing costs. The insurance is no different either. Just to be clear. I do not have shares in any EV companies and am not being sponsored to write this (although I’m open to offers!). I am however passionate about the environment and firmly believe this is one important way we can help ‘save the planet’ for generations to come.

Rougham Control Tower Aviation Museum Onward and Upward As the season progresses our visitor numbers continue to rise, now over 600. Our volunteers work tirelessly to keep the museum and the exhibits up to an excellent condition. They also are out and about at local events and fetes. Have you seen our Green Tent?

You could even try drawing a poppy! Great news is you don’t need a rubber just wash the image away (or let it rain) and draw some more!

What to do in your garden in July... Summer is here and there are plenty of gardens to visit. The panicle hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata) is the less well-known brother of the ‘ordinary’ hydrangea you are familiar with. The panicle hydrangea is a strongly deciduous shrub with elegant, plume-shaped sprays which are 15-30cm long from July to September. The panicle hydrangea likes a spot in full sunlight or partial shade. Pruning in March ensures that new flowers develop on the plant every year, and keeps it young and healthy. Hydrangeas that most of us have in our gardens tend to have either pink or blue flowers depending on the soil. With panicle hydrangeas’ the flowers do not change based on the soil chemistry. Rather, it is a change in temperature that triggers their flowers to turn from white to pink or red in the Autumn.

n Now’s the time to prune spring flowering shrubs, such as Philadelphus, Weigela n Cut back penstemons to just above a bud to encourage more flowers n It is best to cut flowers from the garden early morning with a sharp secateurs. They will keep longer if you cut at an angle and immerse straight into a bucket of water or vase. n Trim holly, yew and conifer hedges. n Feed dahlias once a week with a liquid tomato feed. You will need to stake taller varieties and pinch out the growing tips of smaller types to encourage bushy growth n Divide up clumps of overcrowded bearded iris to reinvigorate them.
Vegetable and Fruit Garden n Harvest your garlic and onions as soon as the leaves start to yellow and die back. n Mulch rhubarb once the harvesting of the stalks is over n Give your gooseberries and currant bushes a prune after harvesting their fruit.

This also helps to prevent brown rot. n Tackle blackfly on broad beans by pinching off any affected growing tips n You can harvest garlic once the foliage dies down. n Pinch out the tips of runner beans when they reach the top of the canes n Thin out beetroot seedlings to around 5cm apart to ensure your beetroots grow to a decent size n If you are growing outdoor tomatoes then it is a good idea to cut back the main growing stem when you have around 4-5 trusses.

Select your fridge’s optimum temperature
Clean the condenser coils on your fridge
of 4C (and -18C for a freezer). Power consumption increases dramatically at lower temperatures. Setting your freezer at -25C, can waste as much as 10% of energy, costing you an extra £9 per year (30kg CO2).
Unplug the unit and gently brush or vacuum the coils at least twice a year, improving efficiency by up to 30%. Also ensure there is space between your refrigerator and wall to maintain good air circulation.
3 Check the refrigerator and freezer door seals
Your refrigerator could be wasting a huge amount of energy if worn or loose. Use a thin piece of paper to check the seal at different locations, if it moves easily you may need to change the seal.
4 Let food cool properly before putting it away If you can’t be bothered to wait until it cools down before popping it into your fridge or freezer, then get ready for bigger electric bills and an increased CO2 imprint.

The new STEM Academy needs a logo. The new STEM Academy opening in Bury St Edmunds is asking for local pupils to help design the logo.

A brand new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Academy will soon be joining County Upper as part of the Bury St Edmunds All-Through Academy Trust. Serving students from across West Suffolk, the STEM Academy (‘County STEM’) offers a visionary education model. “This is a unique vision where students are part of one Trust whether they follow the traditional academic or applied practical pathway, so having equal status.” Dame Elizabeth Sidwell, Former Schools Commissioner for England With the support of Dame Elizabeth Sidwell, and over twenty renowned STEM businesses, research institutes and the University of East Anglia, the Trust convinced the Department for Education that education in England needed to adapt to the 21st century. Now West Suffolk is set to reap the benefits! The new school is being built on the Trust’s Westley site ready for the opening in September 2019. The school will eventually offer education for students from years 9 - 13.

There will still be STEM subjects taught in upgraded facilities. Stand Your Ground or Walk Away? Someone asked me this week what the definition of bravery is. They are in the process of making some life changing decisions and wondered whether walking away from the security they have, and into the unknown to find a happier life, is an act of courage or foolishness. It was a good question. How do we make those big decisions for ourselves? Especially if we have never had to make major life choices before? Getting the things we want in life usually takes practice and persistence, we need to commit to the project at hand, then stick with it until we have
mastered the necessary skills to succeed. There comes a point however, when we inevitably ask ourselves –is this worth the sacrifice or effort involved? That is when a line must be drawn, ask yourself – 1. Does the reward outweigh the cost? 2. If I master this, will I be happy with it? 3. Can I use this skill to get me to something that makes me happy? 4. If things don’t improve, can I live with it?
5. How much worse do things need to get before I walk away? 6. Do I have another option? 7. Do I need help to get to where I want to be? I have chosen the word skill to demonstrate the point but you could substitute that word for your own situation such as your job, your relationship, starting a family, your living arrangements, the people you spend time with, the hobbies you have. It is good to evaluate all aspects of our lives on a regular basis to see if they work for us. Are you staying where you are because it’s safe but unfulfilling or are you really enjoying what you are doing with your life? Perhaps life choices shouldn’t be about bravery but about finding peace, trusting yourself to know what is right for you. The courage comes later, when taking that first step.

The fourth annual children’s arts programme Once Upon A Festival has gotten off to a fantastic start last week, the family day opened proceedings at Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds with performances of Junk Orchestra and artists from Rojo Arts providing workshops and activities, plus the wide programme of shows have been visiting schools and partner venues around Suffolk and Norfolk for their hosted performances.

We were all keen to go and see that latest instalment of the Jurassic films as there is a certain nostalgia to them! This certainly didn’t disappoint. It is set 3 years on from the previous Jurassic World film and the humans have left the dinosaurs to roam free in the park on Isla Nublar. The volcano that the island is sitting on has become active again and there is a big international debate over whether humans should intervene and save the de-extinct dinosaurs or allow mother nature to do its business and, again make them extinct. Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) is now the head of a Dinosaur Protection league and is working to protect the species and have them relocated. Eli Mills (Rafe Spall) who runs the Lockwood Estate for elderly Sir Benjamin Lockwood (James Cromwell) who was Hammond’s previous partner, tricks Claire in to tracking down Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) to help her track ‘Blue’! Eli has less than honest motives, leading him in to the ‘baddy’ role perfectly. The film certainly doesn’t disappoint on the action and jumpy side and ends with potential for more! Overall myself and my 3 boys really enjoyed this film. The story seemed slightly disjointed in places and I’m not convinced that my 6 year old completely understood exactly what was going on all the time but we were all entertained and, if you enjoy Jurassic World films, you won’t feel disappointed you went to watch it!

transform Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy ‘Romeo and Juliet’ into an evening of riotous energy and a great deal of chaos and laughter. The critically-acclaimed Pantaloons will also be back to present their innovative and hilarious open-air version of Shakespeare’s timeless comedy ‘As you like it’, with folky, footstomping live music and their own inimitable brand of buffoonery. Ickworth is the perfect place to entertain the children this summer holidays with a chance to get creative with indoor children’s crafts for those rainy days, and explore the outdoors with activities throughout those
long summer days. Pick up a ‘50things to do before 11 3/4’ booklet and get exploring the great outdoors. Calling all aspiring explorers! Join us for a fun packed morning as we cover the basics of bush craft and outdoor survival skills, all within our beautiful parklands. Booking is essential. There will also be the opportunity to master the traditional sport of Archery on the North Lawn from 7 to 15 August. If you would like to venture into the House, families can be transported back in time by the interactive 1930s Servants’ Quarters and explore the Grand State Rooms through our children’s trail, following in the footsteps of the children who used to live at Ickworth.

CRICKET CLUB
The key match being played at the Victory Ground over July 8th 9th and 10th is the 3 day Suffolk against Bedfordshire Unicorns Minor Counties game, play commences weather permitting at 11.00am but could be earlier on the final day. This is a chance to see some of the area’s best players and to enjoy cricket in a relaxed atmosphere at the superb Victory Sports Ground, come along and enjoy a drink as the pavilion bar will be open for the duration of the match. Bury St Edmunds host East Anglian Premier League matches on Saturday June 30th against Frinton, July 14th against Great Witchingham and July 28th against Swardeston, spectators are welcome at all these games and indeed every Saturday and most Sundays for the rest of the cricket season.
Junior cricket takes place on Wednesday evenings from 6.00 to 7.30 for boys and girls aged 13 and over. Friday evenings, qualified coaches will also be in attendance for younger boys and girls in the 8 years and above age group. On Sunday mornings Bury St Edmunds Cricket Club are taking part in the national All Stars Cricket programme for youngsters aged 5 to 8.
