From your new local councillors... Richard Rout, Sarah Stamp, Patrick Chung and Ann Williamson
You have a new County Councillor! Cllr Richard Rout was elected onto Suffolk County Council last month and has taken over from previous County Councillor Sarah Stamp, who stood down at the election. This means that Richard is your Suffolk County Councillor -Patrick and Sarah are still your St Edmundsbury Borough Councillors and Patrick and Ann are your Town Councillors. With three tiers of local government it can get a bit confusing working out who is responsible for what, but you can find out more on the websites which are www.suffolk.gov.uk, www.westsuffolk.gov.uk and www.burystedmunds-tc.gov.uk or by contacting any one of us – we work closely as a team and will all be happy to help.
CONTACT US! We are here to help and we are always happy to hear from residents about local issues, so please do get in touch. Cllr Richard Rout

LOCAL NEWS
HARDWICK PRIMARY - OFSTED Fantastic news that Hardwick Primary again received a “Good” rating in their recent Ofsted inspection. This reflects the enormous hard work and dedication of all the staff, Governors and pupils and was richly deserved.
West Suffolk Operational Hub (WSOH) A decision is due this month on the planning application for the proposed West Suffolk Operational Hub (WSOH) on Hollow Road (near the Sugar Beet Factory). The proposed WSOH would provide a bigger and better household waste recycling centre than the one currently on Rougham Hill, would also act as a waste transfer station and
finally a depot for the many public sector vehicles. The application will go before a planning committee for the decision, but all details are available to view at www.westsuffolk. gov.uk. If the decision is made to grant permission then the Household Waste Recycling Centre currently on Rougham Hill would relocate.
REPORT IT! All too often, as local Councillors, we know there is a problem in a given area - whether it’s illegal parking, antisocial behaviour, speeding, or something else that detracts from our quality of life - but when we come to try to get action, we’re told there is no record or not sufficient data. To help us see that problems get dealt with, we need local residents to report it when they seem something dangerous or illegal. If it’s not an emergency, you can do this by dialling 101 and speaking to Suffolk Constabulary. If we all report issues of this nature regularly, it will be much easier for us to gather the evidence we need to deliver a solution. Historically, there have been issues getting though on 101 but we’re told the service is now much improved.
FUN DAY Massive thank you to local super heroes Andy and Suzy Abbot and all who helped organise this year’s community fun day on May 1st. It was a really great day with lots of people there and even the sun came out to play! JUNE 2017 | 11

to use 8ft tall bamboo canes and bend these into the centre to form an A frame. I also tie in additional canes along the length of the canes about 2 ft off the ground to give the framework more solidity and give the beans more chance to climb. n Keep rows of onions well watered if it is dry n Earth up potatoes n If you have apple trees you will notice the June drop when small apples will naturally fall from a cluster. However you can improve the quality and size of your apples by removing more.

Ickworth’s Wool Fair
From sheep dog and shearing demonstrations to crafts, archery and delicious local produce, the annual Ickworth Wool Fair is set to be the busiest one yet.

CHURCH NEWS
A Local Ecumenical Partnership between the Church Of England, United Reformed Church and Baptist Union of Great Britain
WE ARE YOUR LOCAL CHURCH BASED IN SOUTHGATE CENTRE. DO COME ALONG AND JOIN US ON A SUNDAY AS WELL AS FOR ONE OF OUR MANY MID WEEK ACTIVITIES FOR PEOPLE OF ALL AGES.
On Sunday 4 June, the Christian Church celebrates PENTECOST which is also its birthday. It is a day of hope and takes place fifty days after Easter. On this day, Christians around the world celebrate the gift of the HOLY SPIRIT. PENTECOST is also the birthday of Southgate Church as we held our first service on Pentecost Sunday in 1974. We first met in the primary school, before moving to our own Church Centre in the Community Centre.
Happy Birthday Southgate! After Jesus rose from the dead, he spent 40 days on Earth and was seen by many people, Before he left his disciples, Jesus talked to them and promised that he would not be leaving them on their own. He said that he would be sending them the HOLY SPIRIT who would be their counsellor, teacher and friend. When Jesus was on Earth, He could only be in one place at a time. The Holy Spirit came to his fearful disciples in a dramatic way so that their lives were changed enabling them to boldly spread the good news about Jesus. The Church was born and that good news continues to spread today. Through the Holy Spirit, everyone who believes in Him will know that God is with them wherever they are.
