ARCHITECTURAL SHADOW INTERN SKIDMORE OWINGS AND MERRILL (SOM) WOMEN’S WINTER SHADOWING INITIATIVE

Was invited to take part in a shadowing program at SOM New York. Through this experience I was able to see what this large firm does on a daily basis. It was here that I learned that the large firm environment is one I can see myself thriving in. In my time with SOM I was allowed to study under some of their leading positions, spending one on one time with Danei Cesario, and Yasemin Kologlu. 2017-2018

PROGRAM CHAIR + COMPETITION LEADER NOMAS| National Organization of Minority Architecture Students (Active Member) Programs Chair (2019-20) As the standing program chair I had the role of coordinating professional events (lectures, presentations, forums, firm visits, mentor-ship programs) for the organization along with the Architecture department. I contacted local firms to begin the conversation around beginning a shadowing initiative similar to that which I was able to do with SOM, conversations to solidify details for this are continuing and developing as they can with current leadership. Through my positive interaction with SOM leadership I was able to introduce a new lecturer (Yasemin Kologlu) to our program. 2018+2019 Competition Lead For two years I was a competition team leader for the NOMA National competition. In this position both time I took on the tasks of leading the board creation and narrative composition. Retail

In the design are shop spaces, as well as office and commercial retail spaces available to be rented out. There are opportunities for the residents to open up shops on the ground floor alongside whatever brand stores or offices decide to join the nostrand.Connect team.

Apartments

At nostrand.CONNECT The core concept of nostrand.Connect is: Connectivity. Every design move that the team made was with the intent of pushing some form of connection within and around the site. All of this was continuously done with the three pillars of sustainability in mind: Social, Economic and Environmental.

HONORABLE MENTION AWARD RECIPIENT

NOSTRAND.CONNECT NOMA National Student Competition The intent of the Nostrand.Connect development is to raise a learning environment complete with chance encounters and a community in which the neighborhood of Nostrand.Connect can grow and thrive. The design provides a safe space, that is active around the clock while pushing to unite the surrounding areas regardless of background. Residents and visitors alike have opportunities to invest in their education within convenient classroom settings. This design focuses not only the youth that come into the development but the older generations as well who can use these spaces to connect to the world around them. Nostrand.Connect wants to bring together Nostrand’s future inhabitants, while enhancing their existence with opportunities to grow skills and cultivate ideas in a collaborative CONNECTed environment. Senior Living

To fit the Age in Place mindset, nostrand. Connect made it a priority to make room for all possible residents. There are more spacious room plans, perfect for visitors, and accessibility.

The design allows each of its residents and visitors the opportunity to experience an inclusive environment. On the ground floor Retail can be used by the residents above as shops in which they can grow businesses, there is opportunity for pop-up shops, local retailers and brands to come together in a central space. With the proximity of the retail to the housing above residents will not have to go far to access everything they need in their daily lives. Each level above this includes apartment units as well as CONNECTion rooms in which residents can cultivate stimulating environments that foster collaboration and growth. As the inhabitants of Nostrand.Connect make their way to the roof, they will experience these rooms all the way up until they reach our shared outdoor spaces that are meant to encourage a tempering of pace, a connection to nature which offers room for bonding, reflection, and solidarity.

Environmental Agencies All of nostrand.Connect’s environmental agencies are visible and evident inside and out of the building. Working from the roof of the building in, there is a green roof, which offers residents connection to nature, while acting as a point for water management systems that offer grey water use to the site. Residents will also find a solar panel farm, this farm the existence of this panel farm will pair with the water management system to reduce the cost of everyday residence costs overtime. The openings in the main central space of the lower level allow for passive ventilation of the common areas on the ground floor.

Design Conclusion: Near the Oakland Cemetery of Atlanta, GA, the Gateway design acts as a historic entrance to the re-visioning of the design. Created to act as an activity center of what is now one of two desolate ends of the site, this redesign incorporates an environment welcoming all on a walk through downtown Atlanta.

GATEWAY // GREENWAY

From Displacesd to Our Place Project Purpose:

Sustainable and Safe Communities This Project investigates how a low-income urban community can be adapted into a didactic environment using both the community and its elementary school to create a bridge between early childhood learning and community. This will be done by exploring elements of the elementary school, the community and of architecture to develop an approach through which resources of the community are given the chance to become multifaceted. In doing this both funding elements and design tactics will build up a sustainable community model. In the chosen community students walk home more than not and this thesis aims to create environments that allow for safe and educational journeys throughout the neighborhood.

When considering designing with nature as a didactic element, the project will seek to incorporate aspects presented. This can be done in many ways, incorporating solar strategies or, integrating the design with natural elements, like the vegetation. Elements of water runoff and catchment can be displayed as well. Modules have the opportunity to react to the wind, and truly influence the space as well. each different hwight module allows for the uers to climb and seat themselves both wat normal ground level and at the 1’6” ground level of the installation

The Pavilions, arranged across an area of 1.1 million square meters, are the real protagonists of the Expo where Countries from all around the world , starting from their culture and traditions, are encouraged to pose questions and propose solutions for the big challenges linked to previsions about nutrition. Through the installed lighting solutions, Linea Light Group is one of the companies contributing to the enhancement of the pavilions’ structures and exhibition spaces, highlighting details and geometries, putting into focus and sharpening the environment, colors and exposed subjects, as well as creating chromatic effects following architectural elements and emotional aims at sunset.

These lost spaces have become invisible to local people who usually dismiss them as mundane background places devoid of purpose.

Much like the presented precedents and studies, play can be integrated into the learning environment by extending the physical landscape into a new “learning landscape.” This can be done through creating what this project aims to call “reading landscaping.” in which elements of play will be incorporated into exterior library and classroom settings.

A town of nearly 12000 households, Thomasville Heights, has a variety of backgrounds and age groups within. It is bordered to the east by Atlanta’s Moreland Avenue, a Major Connector of the city as well as the “undesirable” programs Atlanta US Penitentiary, a city Landfill and the Old Starlight Drive in Movie Theatre. While the neighborhood has a few existing community driven programs, many of these community programs are also near the “undesirable” programs listed previously. It is also bordered 2 major streets of the city(Moreland Avenue and Mcdonough Blvd). LOCATING THE SITE

SITE SELECTION -In phase one of the design, the rec center is planned to be the community center point of the plan. it will display the planned spaces and be a nexus for future design moves.

SITE SELECTION -The school already has a large garden plot and more land outside of it that is unused. this space can become community garden space with the purpose of fueling the market space design. the school is the educational center point of the plan.

SITE SELECTION -Churches around the site will formulate around the allocation of a reading landscape or of an open installation. many of the church yards are vacant and unused with will bring activity and purpose to abandoned, but once central, lots.

Castleberry Station Townhomes WORK While Architectural Designer of SHAPE ROLE scheme layout/spatial planning, research, design, presentation design

The Office of SHAPE in collaboration with HAA worked with a local development team to bring on line a total of 50 townhouses in the Castleberry Hill District of the city of Atlanta. The area has been known as an arts and cultural district with a mix of industrial uses – Castleberry Hill is also home to the loft district for the city. The design direction is meant to be that of an industrial-inspired look and feel for the structures. The limits range in size fro 2,300 – 2,500 square feet and all 3 bedrooms.
