Seaford Golf and Country Club improving facilities Half a million in renovations and equipment added as club continues membership drive By Lynn R. Parks The 67-year-old Seaford Golf and Country Club is spending half a million dollars on renovations and new equipment. That includes the purchase of nonpolluting and quiet electric golf carts to replace 40 of the 60 gasoline-powered carts the club has, the installation of a new, energy-efficient air conditioning system and construction of a new deck on the back of the clubhouse. “The new deck is more customerfriendly,” said Pattie Kretchmer, who started as the club’s general manager in August. It is handicapped-accessible and can accommodate parties of

up to 150 people, she added. The old deck was limited to parties of 90 people. New furniture for the deck is on order, Kretchmer said, and the club is considering putting on a retractable awning to provide shade on the deck during the summer. “These were all things that were really much needed,” said Kretchmer. “The club was getting old-looking and needed a facelift.” The clubhouse will soon get new vinyl siding to replace the white aluminum siding it has now. Kretchmer said that the club leadership is still deciding about the color of the new siding — maybe off-white with Continued to page four

Seaford Library says support remains strong The Seaford Library and Cultural Center Board of Directors and Steering Committee remain committed to raising funds and building the new library and cultural center. “As use by patrons of the library continues to rise, the need or a new, larger and more modern and technologically advanced facility grows with it,” state Dr. Edith Villasenor, president of the Board of Directors. Last week, in an effort to balance its budget, the State of Delaware took back $2 million of a $2.7 million commitment. The city manager and council persons of Seaford immediately joined forces with the Library Steering Committee to solicit help from state Sen. Bob Venables and state Rep. Daniel Short to have the money recommitted in the 2009 budget currently being worked on. As stated by City Manager Dolores Continued to page four
