Day in the Park will be June 5 Delmar’s annual festival will have variety of food, games
By Mike McClure The 34th Annual Delmarva Day in the Park will take place on Saturday, June 5, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the State Street Park in Delmar with a rain date of June 26. The annual event, sponsored by the Delmar Chamber of Commerce and its member businesses, will feature a wide assortment of food as well as games for the kids and music from the band Sneak Preview. Admission to the festival is free and festival-goers are invited to bring their lawn chairs to sit and enjoy the music. “We’re hoping and praying for sunny weather and no rain two days prior (to the festival),” said Day in the Park co-chair Diane Johnson. Sneak Preview will perform from noon to 6 p.m. with other entertain-
ment still in the process of being lined up. There will also be inflatable attractions, a kiddy train, and fun games such as potato sack races and a hula hoop contest. All day wrist bands will be available for purchase for the festival’s attractions. Pay to play games like the ring toss, dart game, ball toss, and putt putt golf will also be on hand with a chance to win tokens that can be redeemed for prizes. One of the biggest draws of the Day in the Park is the food. Vendors will offer a wide assortment of food including: oyster fritters, crab cakes, French fries, pizza, Italian ice, soft pretzels, funnel cakes, hamburgers, hot dogs, sausages, home made ice cream, snow cones, smoked turkey, barbecue/prime rib, fish and pulled pork. One of the new offerings this year is kettle corn. There will also be craft and informational vendors. Johnson expects a total of 50-60 vendors to be at the festival. Vendor check in will take place 8-10 a.m. at the pavilion. The chamber

Last minute applications and money will be accepted at town hall through June 2. The Day in the Park is the chamber of commerce’s largest fundraiser, but it is also one of the largest fundraisers for other non-profit organizations such as the Delmar Lions Club, Delmar Kiwanis, Delmar VFW Ladies Auxiliary, St. Stephen’s Church (ice cream), and New Century Club (nuts). The Chamber of Commerce’s member businesses help sponsor the festival. This year Coca Cola is the official drink of the Delmarva Day in the Park. Mitchell’s Martial Arts donated bottled water for sale and will run the drink booth. Conrad Morgan of Mitchell’s Martial Arts is the festival’s new chairperson.
