LODI PRODUCES MORE WINE GRAPES THAN ANY OTHER CALIFORNIA APPELLATION. Grapes are at the heart of Lodi’s history. They thrive in the perfect blend of temperate climate and loamy soil, a heavenly match that earned the region the name Lodi Appellation in 1986. Today there are more than 85 wineries in and around Lodi, producing some 450 labels. This is a way of life that has been central to Lodi for more than 140 years. Old vine zinfandel, cabernet sauvignon, merlot and chardonnay are specialties of many local wineries, but you’ll also find such unique wines as Spanish and Rhône varietals. Lodi’s fourth- and fifth-generation wine growers are like proud parents; they love to discuss wine and share stories of one of America’s greatest wine-growing regions. There’s a good chance the winemaker is the person topping off your glass.

WHETHER BY LAND OR BY WATER, DISCOVER ALL THAT LODI HAS TO OFFER. The Mokelumne River flows along the edge of town past vineyards and lush vegetation. The river forms the Lodi Lake Wilderness Area, which attracts millions of migratory birds each year, including Sandhill Cranes. Short, scenic walking trails crisscross this nature preserve. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy a relaxing afternoon under the trees. Lodi offers an abundance of water recreation. You can launch a paddleboard, canoe, kayak or innertube from the river’s shoreline for a serene and scenic ride through the winding, calm channels. Toss your line and fish for steelhead trout and salmon. And for those who love to hit a little white ball down a green fairway, Lodi offers a number of public and private

TAKE A LEISURELY RIDE AROUND LODI OR WATCH THE CYCLING PROS RACE THROUGH THE STREETS. Lodi is a great area for bike lovers. Novices love the many gentle and lesstrafficked routes while experts have long rides along a network of rivers or up into the Sierra foothills. Ten of the region’s most entertaining cycling routes are featured in the free Bike Lodi guide (available online at VisitLodi.com). Cycle through the Cosumnes River Preserve or combine a ride through the vineyards with some wine tasting. During birding season, cycle to the Sandhill Crane Reserve. Families love the winding bike paths around Lodi Lake. Lodi is home to a variety of annual cycling events including Cyclefest, Giro D’Vino and Tour delle Vigne’s 50K, 100K and 100-mile loops.
