THERE’S SOMETHING SPECIAL IN LODI THAT WE’VE BEEN PERFECTING FOR A VERY LONG TIME. Lodi, California, is a subtle medley of the natural and man-made: rich soil and cool breezes; 100+ years of winemaking, 85 wineries and more than 70 tasting rooms; a charming downtown surrounded by miles of open waterways and cycling routes. Eighty-five miles east of the San Francisco Bay, Lodi is on the edge of the San Joaquin-Sacramento River Delta with the Sierra foothills to the east. The streets of downtown are lined with unique restaurants and shops, breweries and tasting rooms. Explore a museum or watch thousands of birds in the wild. Paddle through channels along the Mokelumne River and the adjoining Lodi Lake. Combine scenic cycling with breaks to taste award-winning wines. We hope this planner gives you a tantalizing sip of all that Lodi has in store for you. But, as with the label on a bottle, words and pictures reveal only so much. We invite you to discover for yourself a story as rich and deep in color and taste as our fine wine. The Visit Lodi! Conference and Visitors Bureau is your official source for information and help in planning your next visit. View our website at visitlodi.com or call us at 209-365-1195. Make sure to drop by our Downtown Visitor Center at 25 North School Street. It’s the perfect first stop to plan your Lodi itinerary.

WINE COUNTRY An award-winning wine region with tasting rooms of all sizes and over 100 varietals to choose from.

NATURE AND NURTURE COMBINE IN LODI to create one of California’s premier grape-growing and winemaking regions, with a history dating back to the 1850s. Our wine includes fruit from 130-year-old Zinfandel vines. The mix of wines that make up the Lodi Appellation has grown to over 450 labels and includes over 100 varietals. Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Petite Syrah, Albarino, Tempranillo and Grenache are just a few of the many varietals that visitors to Lodi will have the opportunity to taste. With many award-winning wines and numerous first-class tasting rooms, Lodi is one of California’s elite wine destinations.

“Wineries encircle the town, some surrounded by hundreds of acres of vineyards, others along the banks of the Mokelumne River.” Generations of families have worked this land’s rich soil and refined its fruit and wine. Among those families were the Mondavis, whose son, Robert Mondavi, went from 1933 class president at Lodi’s Union High School to a Stanford graduate, which eventually led to a career as a pioneer of California’s international wine industry. The Mondavi’s lineage includes many current Lodi winemakers and is just one thread of multiple traditions stretching back generations to Italian, Portuguese, German, Dutch and other immigrant families who were able to make a life for themselves in this rich valley.

HIGHLIGHTS • Downtown Lodi hosts • Lodi is the birthplace of A&W Root Beer; the first a farmers market every Thursday during the batch was sold here in the summer from 5-8:30pm. summer of 1919.

One of the most delightful aspects of a visit to a Lodi winery tasting room is that you might very well be served by the winemaker or even the owner themself. Lodi’s wine families love to show off the fruits of their labor. You can walk, cycle or drive between tasting rooms. Downtown Lodi has 11 within a few blocks. Wineries encircle the town, some surrounded by hundreds of acres of vineyards, others along the banks of the Mokelumne River. 4 visitlodi.com

All are reached by lovely, rural roads that reward travel by bike, motorcycle, convertible, Uber or Lyft. Plan a Lodi wine adventure that samples everything from old vine Zinfandels to young Cabernet Sauvignons. Tour a state-of-the-art facility or relax in the picnic ground of a small family winery. Lodi wine tasting is accessible and full of lovely spots to enjoy the fruits of the vine and genuine hospitality.

DOWNTOWN LODI

LODI’S LOVELY DOWNTOWN combines timeless charm with a modern sensibility. Decorative archways and brick paths line the town’s main street, School Street. During the warm months, a canopy of leaves shades the sidewalks and outside tables come alive with conversation and the clink of glasses. Wine-tasting rooms are within strolling distance. Sample the local suds at Lodi Beer Company, Five Window Beer Company, Dancing Fox Winery & Brewery and Idol Beer Works. Shopping is a fun adventure in Downtown Lodi, whether you seek antiques, vintage clothing, modern fashion, gifts or tasty treats at Cheese Central. Hutchins Street Square is Downtown Lodi’s performing arts center, with live theater, music, ballet performances and other events year-round. The World of Wonders Science Museum is enjoyed by visitors of all ages. Exterior walls of many downtown buildings display large, colorful murals, 11 of which have been created by the famed Letterheads group of mural painters collaborating with local artist, Tony Segale. If you enjoy train travel, the Amtrak station is located directly in Downtown Lodi, with multiple trains stopping daily. Bikes are welcome on all Capitol Corridor trains. Lodi rocks during its many popular annual events. Food and wine festivals, street fairs, wine strolls, cycling events and farmers markets—there’s something fun happening in Lodi throughout the year.

Located in a beautiful oak-forested park, the zoo and other attractions are owned and operated by San Joaquin County Parks and Recreation. The five-acre zoo concentrates on the welfare of its “animal ambassadors,” including rescued raptors and exotic primates. The zoo’s staff and animals are part of Species Survival Plans, participating in international breeding programs for endangered wildlife.

“The World of Wonders Science Museum has over 70 hands-on exhibits that stimulate discovery in young and old alike. Test your brainpower and marvel at the wonders of science and technology.” Also in the park is the San Joaquin County Historical Museum, where eight exhibit buildings and four historic buildings showcase the storied history of the region, from native peoples to agriculture. Find koi in the pond at the Japanese Garden located just outside, or explore other areas of the park such as Wortley Lake, Fun Town amusement park and numerous picnic structures. The World of Wonders Science Museum has over 70 hands-on exhibits that stimulate discovery in young and old alike. Test your brainpower and marvel at the wonders of science and technology. asts alike. Take a docent-led tour of this historic California home filled with original furnishings and artifacts. Catch theater, dance and music performances at Hutchins Street Square Performing Arts Theatre, with productions throughout the year.

grounds. One even offers a walking trail, an experience that blends nature and the outdoors with the fruit of the vine. For those seeking more active, adventurous fare, launch a paddle board, canoe, kayak or innertube into Lodi Lake’s calm, winding channels. Or float down a serene stretch of the Mokelumne River, stopping for a break at a tasting room, or to drop in a line and fish for steelhead trout and salmon.

If hitting the green is your specialty and you have the urge to enjoy a nice lush golf fairway, there are a number of excellent courses surrounding Lodi, both public and private. Lodi is a very popular destination for cyclists, both experienced and novice. Beginners love the many gentle and less-trafficked routes, while experts can tackle longer rides along a network of rivers or up into the Sierra foothills. Ten of the region’s most entertaining bike routes are featured in the free BikeLodi brochure, available at the Visit Lodi! Downtown Visitor Center or online at VISITLODI.COM. Favorites include a tour through the Cosumnes River Preserve, a bird14 visitlodi.com

watchers ride, “Family Fun Ride” and the self-explanatory “Three Wineries and a Café.” Annually, Lodi is home to a wide variety of cycling events, including Cyclefest, Giro D’Vino and Tour delle Vigne’s 50K, 100K and 100-mile loops. Lodi has also served as a host city for the Amgen Tour of California. With cool Delta breezes during the summer, temperate climate year-round and thousands of acres of open space, it’s no wonder that Lodi is known for so much more than its excellent wine!
