Venture to Vegas’ Fine Art By Jennifer McKee

EVOCA-TECTURE AT WYNN & ENCORE Wynn Resorts design guru Roger Thomas is responsible for making Wynn and Encore Las Vegas (and proceeding them, the Bellagio) both sophisticated and energizing, using fabrics meant to be touched and placing rare artifacts next to durable furnishings. Run your hands over the textured wallpaper and vases at Encore, marvel at giant parasols at Wynn Las Vegas and explore corridors and common areas designed by this oft-lauded creator of “evoca-tecture.” Sculpture can be found throughout Wynn and Encore as well. The Wynn Plaza features the exuberant multimedia sculpture “Arrows and Flowers” from Takashi Murakami and

Virgil Abloh, and Jeff Coombs’ masterpiece “Popeye” stands in the Wynn Esplanade. BREAKING THE MOLD AT BELLAGIO Thomas’ design of the Bellagio broke the Vegas standard when he introduced a lush conservatory and gardens, wideopen spaces and an impressive art collection. And indeed, upon entry, visitors are ushered into a lobby where one of Dale Chihuly’s best-known installations—the “Fiori di Como”— is suspended from the ceiling. The installation is meant to evoke Italian fields in springtime and features more than 2,000 blown-glass flowers. Also on the property, Vegas’ only conventional fine arts museum, the

For Vegas visitors, a jaunt through their favorite casino’s hallways, lobbies and common areas could bring them past the Strip’s finest art. As 2019 comes to a close, join us on a tour of our favorites and check “learn something new” off your list of resolutions.

Bottom: Parasol Down at Wynn Las Vegas. Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art, displays both classical and modern masterpieces. “Material Existence: Japanese Art from Jomon Period to Present” is currently on display. The two-part exhibition features both large-scale installations and smaller works, including the world’s most intact “Goggle-eyed Dogu.” ARIA’S ART VIA APP No matter how you enter the Aria, contemporary works greet you. When driving toward Aria from the Strip, be sure to look at Nancy Rubins’ foundart treasure, “Big Edge.” Come in from the CityCenter tram and discover Tony Cragg’s biomorphic stainless steel sculptures. Enter via the lobby and you come face-to-face with Henry Moore’s “Reclining Connected Forms.” And there’s plenty more to explore. Create a personalized walking tour by downloading the MGM Resorts app from Aria’s website.

CONTEMPORARY AT THE COSMOPOLITAN Another walk through the contemporary art world can be had at The Cosmopolitan. Art forms found here include large-scale paintings, digital art throughout the property (including an award-winning intuitive lobby installation) and six vintage Art-o-mat machines, made from repurposed cigarette vending machines, each dispensing a variety of original artwork.
