Find Your passion

Where the Southwest meets the Northwest, you’ll find a destination with a passion for living — Reno Tahoe USA. With its ideal location at the upper reaches of the Southwest and the mountainous start of the Northwest, Reno Tahoe offers the best of both regions — a beautiful high desert setting and backdrop of towering peaks that has more special events, outdoor recreation, worldclass spas, breathtaking vistas and sunny days than any other resort area in North America. Even better, you’ll find it all at extremely affordable prices. But don’t just take our word for it. Our area has been showing up on dozens of “Top 10” lists from top magazines and travel resources, thanks to our great weather, upscale resorts, outdoor activities, Lake Tahoe’s beauty and incredible value. Visitors to Reno Tahoe can’t get enough either. Be sure to check out the #RenoTahoe hashtag on social media to get inspired for your upcoming trip, and, of course, share your experiences using the hashtag. Follow us on social media to get the latest travel ideas and learn about upcoming events. We’ve highlighted some of our favorites within this planner, so dive in and immerse yourself in the excitement and rip-roaring fun of Reno Tahoe USA. viSiTRenoTahoe.com

ENTERTAINMENT & NIGHTLIFE

Reasons to stay up past your bedtime HERE IN RENO WE HAVE A TENDENCY TO STAY UP ALL NIGHT, and why not? With 24-hour gaming action, concerts, comedians, bars, clubs, stage shows, ultralounges and more, who can blame us? Needless to say, it’s a good idea to grab a power nap before you hit the town because it may be the only sleep you get! For concert-lovers, there’s always a great show getting ready to crank the volume up to 11. Music enthusiasts can check out intimate venues featuring local and up-and-coming acts, ping performers at Reno Events Center and the Grand Theater, inside Grand Sierra Resort. Take part in a monthly wine walk or pub crawl that lets you sample several downtown and MidTown bars in a single outing. We even have themed crawls so you can dress up as your favorite zombie, vampire or Santa. For local flavor, check out the booming MidTown and Riverwalk Districts. With a mix of old favorites and trendy newcomers, these neighborhoods boast a variety of restaurants, breweries

and

distilleries,

where you can treat your palate to a variety of flavors. Want to party the night away? Head to LEX Nightclub, inside Grand Sierra Resort, and EDGE Nightclub, inside the Peppermill. Revelers can dance until dawn to some of the country’s most popular DJs. After all, we did promise to keep you up past your bedtime!

12

BRING ON THE NIGHT Sleep is so overrated. With 24/7 entertainment and gaming, music festivals, tripleA baseball under the lights and some of the clearest starry nights on the planet — we have plenty of ways to celebrate the night!

forms here. The Riverwalk District in downtown Reno is home to a thriving collection of artists’ lofts, shops, galleries, theaters and social gatherings. There’s always an amazing new exhibit showcased at the acclaimed Nevada Museum of Art, ranging from American Impressionism to works by Nevada artists and more. Best of all, it’s a quick stroll from downtown. Or check out the National Automobile Museum — also just a short walk away — home to one of the most prestigious car collections in the entire world. Experience the talents of the Reno Philharmonic, Nevada Opera and Reno Chamber Orchestra. Gather the family and head to the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum. Or hit the beach for the unforgettable Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. And don’t forget the coolest party on the planet, Burning Man. Once a year, nearly 70,000 participants gather to be part of an experimental community — Black Rock City — in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert just north of Reno for this event filled with art cars, fire dancers, themed camps and original art on an epic scale.

ARTS ABOUT TOWN More than 60 artist murals grace the walls of the MidTown District; take a walking tour to see them all. Experience larger-than-life art in downtown Reno at the Playa Art Park and the Sculpture Garden in Bicentennial Park. VISITRENOTAHOE.COM

DAY TRIPS — LAKE TAHOE

Into the Blue Mark Twain called Lake Tahoe “the fairest picture the whole world affords,” and many think of it as America’s most beautiful drive. You can begin your journey anywhere along the loop, but you might want to start by heading up the switchbacks of Mt. Rose Highway (SR 431), where just past the summit on the way to Incline Village is one of the region’s best overlooks. From there, head west to Tahoe City’s Fanny Bridge, the Gatekeeper’s Museum and the best lazy-day river rafting around. Continue south past Emerald Bay, where you can hike or simply @ALYNICKLAS

enjoy the breathtaking view. Then, head to Heavenly Village for shopping, gondola rides or a paddleboat cruise. As you continue north along the eastern shore of the lake, stop at one of the many state parks or take a refreshing swim at Sand Harbor.

Sample its charms by cruising the boardwalk, taking a ghost tour, visiting the historic Fourth Ward School Museum and ambling through the Comstock Wild Horse and Mining Museum. Take a scenic drive to Carson City, the capital of the Silver State and home to the Nevada State Museum. Enjoy a stroll along the Kit Carson Trail and explore Carson City’s landmarks and stately Victorian houses. Oregon California 395

Getting here is easier than you think! Several direct flights are available from all parts of the country, including the Midwest and the East Coast. Check out a list of airlines serving RenoTahoe International Airport by going to VisitRenoTahoe.com. If you’re hitting the road to get here, Reno and Sparks are located at the junction of Interstate 80 and U.S. 395/I-580. I-80 provides all-weather access across Donner Summit from Central and Northern California. From Southern California, it’s a straight shot up U.S. 395 along the dramatic eastern front of the Sierra Nevada. From the Northwest, take I-5 south to I-80 or, in the spring and summer, opt for the scenic shortcut that leaves I-5 at Mount Shasta and follows California 89 and 44 southeast through Susanville. A third option is Amtrak’s California Zephyr, which arrives daily from the Bay Area and Sacramento to the west and Salt Lake City and Denver to the east. Trains from the Northwest, coastal Southern California and the Central Valley connect to the Zephyr in Sacramento.
