Enjoying Atlanta, Rain or Shine Whether it's your first visit to metro Atlanta (welcome!) or have lived here most of your life (me!), April is an awesome time to enjoy the outdoors. Golfers and gardeners alike know this well. Still, there will be those April showers—in which case, I suggest taking shelter in style. 90 MINUTES IN: There are telltale signs that spring has sprung in Atlanta: festivals in the streets, flowers in the yards, The Masters Tournament on TVs and people on patios. With daylight saving time on my side, I like to dine al fresco as much as possible (find tried-and-true patios on page 12). However, when the forecast calls for a spring rain shower, odds are you'll find me at Andrews Square. Previously known as East Andrews

Andrews Square in Buckhead Entertainment District, the area underwent a glam transformation in the past year. With a sunny courtyard still at the center, this new season for the two-story district has brought a fresh mix of boutique shops, eateries and fitness classes. Pop in SAMA Food for Balance for a healthy juice, Henri's Bakery for a sweet or Bar Americano for an aperitivo. It's a divine way to pass the time, rain or shine.

Hotel Concierge, InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta Q: What is an urban oasis where visitors can enjoy nature? A: The Atlanta History Center offers 22 acres of gardens, woodlands and trails for young and old to explore. Walk through the Goizueta Gardens to see how many fauna and flora you can name. (Hint: wildflowers bloom in April!)

(TOP) ®KENNETH WHITE | KGWHITEIMAGES (BOTTOM) ®INTERCONTINENTAL BUCKHEAD ATLANTA

Q: Art exhibits are always a great way to dodge some rainy weather. Where can you find a few in the city? A: The High Museum of Art as it is the leading art museum in the Southeast. Currently there is a powerful exhibit on the top floor commemorating the 50th anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Taking the title from his speech, “'A Fire That No Water Could Put Out': Civil Rights Photography" is on view until April 29. Q: Name a place to keep the kids entertained when the weather isn't ideal. A: A very special place to visit for kids (and adults) is Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary. Located in Locust Grove, less than an hour south of Atlanta, this non-profit offers a permanent home for more than 1,500 rescue animals. Although there is no admission, they do accept donations and I recommend taking the guided tour. It’s best to go in the morning, and often better if the weather is cooler or overcast. In the city, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Atlanta and Children's Museum of Atlanta are always a hit with little ones. InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta

Patio Party

Al Fresco Frenzy Outdoor dining is about more than satisfying an appetite; it’s also a feast for the eyes. Three local bloggers share their go-to places to stay awhile. Of course, photo lighting is on point, too. After moving to Atlanta a few years ago, Florida transplant Alyssa Fagien created the popular Instagram personality known as @atl_bucketlist. She keeps the culinary scene under her thumb— literally. For dinner with a view, she suggests heading to O-Ku on the Westside. “Not only is O-Ku one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Atlanta, but it’s also one of my favorite rooftops!” Fagien says. “The view is absolutely gorgeous and the space is small enough to feel cozy, but big enough to hold a crowd. I can always count on O-Ku for refreshing cocktails and the freshest fish.”

South City Kitchen Buckhead Muchacho

RELAXATION STATION When Michael Lennox opened Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall at mile marker 9.25 along the Atlanta BeltLine’s Eastside Trail, he was on to something—and not just the prime location. With a patio designed to soak up the sunshine, the bar and restaurant created a modern communal experience, inviting people to congregate around picnic tables, snap a photo by the camper-turner-bar or share the family-style foods and punch bowls. Since opening in 2014, it’s no surprise that on any given day, the place is often packed from noon to night. Leave it to Lennox to charm Atlanta again with last fall’s opening of both Muchacho and Golden Eagle—two concepts housed within a former train depot in Reynoldstown. Muchacho serves coffee drinks, cool cocktails, colorful pastries and savory snacks from the counter, while the moody Golden Eagle is a mid-centry dream. On the expansive brick patio, both have ample umbrellaed tables worth gathering around, and are also accessible via the Eastside Trail. Pets are welcome until 4 pm. • Just across the street in the heart of Buckhead is another favorite for Key: King + Duke. ”Your mouth begins watering the moment you get near the building,” she says. Her dish of choice? “A must-try for me is the shrimp toast. I refuse to share this one.” Even if you opt to sit inside, the dining wall is flanked by a large glass window overlooking—so you can enjoy the view from the great indoors, too.

• The next spot that Fagien recommends for any foodies’ radar is South City Kitchen (SCK) Buckhead. While this tried-and-true

Atlanta staple has grown from its original Midtown bungalow to four metro Atlanta locations, Fagien prefers the Buckhead locale for its large, open and well-appointed patio. “Pair it with SCK’s delicious food and there’s really nothing better,” Fagien says. Take a sip of the Country Thyme Lemonade, and you may relax so much you forget you’re in the city.

• Fellow Atlanta-based blogger Erica Key of @eatingwitherica suggests another Buckhead hot spot: The Regent Cocktail Club. “When you first walk in, the decorations absorb you in a chic and trendy atmosphere. The entrance splits for an indoor and outdoor rooftop

• Meanwhile, you’re more likely to find blogger Lia Picard at Inman Park’s BeetleCat donut brunch on weekends. Atlanta Your Way

Rainy-Day Escapes

Movie Buff

Style Scout

Brighten up a gloomy day by sightseeing at some of the city's most beloved attractions. Within a short stroll from each other, you can check off this quintessential Atlanta bucket list in no time. First stop: see the puffins at (1) The Georgia Aquarium's Cold Water Quest gallery, across from the Southern sea otters. Next up, head next door to (2) World of CocaCola to learn some surprising history about the globally enjoyed soda. More history and fun abound inside the (3) College Football Hall of Fame and Chick-fil-A Fan Experience. Each visitor recieves a fully interactive All-Access Pass that is the key to unlocking unique experiences throughout the museum for your team of choice. There's even an indoor playing field where visitors attempt to kick a field goal. Talk about a rainy-day win.

Want to put Atlanta's moniker as the "Hollywood of the South" to the test? (1) Atlanta Movie Tours was made with you in mind. Since 2012, these tours provide creative ways for visitors and locals alike to see the city. As Georgia's entertainment industry continues to boom, their guides continue to share more fascinating behind-the-scenes stories. Tours include iconic stops, such as (2) Jackson Street Bridge—a familiar sight for fans of "The Walking Dead." Curious about where Marvel's "Black Panther" was filmed in Atlanta? The industry experts at Atlanta Movie Tours can share the scoop. Fun fact: one of (3) Red Phone Booth's bartenders is an extra in the movie. Head to this sexy Downtown speakeasy for well-crafted cocktails and—who knows?—maybe a celebrity sighting or two.

In search of the latest and greatest? Head to the highly-anticipated (1) Punch Bowl Social, offically open at The Battery Atlanta. Come for the bocce court, private karaoke rooms, eight bowling lanes, two outdoor ping pong tables, Bonzini and 360-degree bar, stay for acclaimed chef Hugh Acheson's menu. Meanwhile at Avalon in Alpharetta, Georgia's second location of (2) Woodhouse Day Spa also opened its doors last month. With an emphasis on natural and certified organic ingredients, this serene spa takes a holistic approach with its industry-leading staff. Discerning diners can never go wrong at Krog Street Market, where there's always something new to try. (3) Varuni Napol's stall is now pouring Italian favorites negronis and rosé on tap, beer and house made cocktails.
