Props and costumes from some of the world's most popular movies and period dramas are now on display in Atlanta. Through March 3, the SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film displays more than 50 pieces created by London firm Cosprop LTD in its "Cinematic Couture" exhibition. The world-renowned firm, creating since 1965, pulled from its vast collection of more than 100,000 costumes and accessories. "Cinematic Couture" showcases costumes from 24 films, including Academy Award winners and nominees such as "The Danish Girl," "Titanic," "Sense and Sensibility," "Out of Africa" and "The

Duchess." Among the costumes are those worn by Kate Winslet, Kiera Knightley, Nicole Kidman, Drew Barrymore, Colin Firth and Meryl Streep. In addition to movie pieces, there are those created for the award-winning British TV series "Downton Abbey," "Pride and Prejudice" and "Victoria." Cosprop employs a staff of 40 experts in designing, tailoring, cutting, fitting, millery, jewelry making and repair, dyeing and printing, as garments created for period fims and series require intricate craftsmanship and face intense visual scrutiny. The beauty of the "Cinematic Couture" exhibit is that it allows you to get up close and examine these details, to appreciate both the process and end result that are sometimes only seen briefly on screen. Since 1987, when the first Academy Award was given for costume design (to "A Room With a View"), Cosprop has created costumes for 61 Oscar-nominated films. In 2011, four of the five nominees featured costumes made by Cosprop. In 2009, Michael O'Connor won the Academy Award for costume design of "The Duchess," for which Cosprop provided the costumes. Susannah Buxton and Caroline McCall earned Emmy Awards for costume design on "Downton

Abbey," for which Cosprop also provided costumes. The crown seen in the exhibit (above) was created by SCAD FASH docent Tina Gancev, fabricated by her and 3D printed in the SCAD Sculpture Center. It took 52 hours to complete and is adorned with Swarovski crystals. The 10,000 square-foot SCAD FASH museum is curated by the Savannah College of Art & Design in Atlanta. It hosts rotating exhibits, a fashion conservation lab and a media library for education film and digital presentations. One of the largest fashion museums in the nation, it also hosts international fashion exhibitions, film screenings and lectures. SCAD FASH, 1600 Peachtree St. NW, 404.253.3132

Q&A Katie Veldhuis

Bruno Mars

Born and raised in Atlanta, Veldhuis is a Falcons cheerleader and instructor at TURN Studio and Stellar Bodies. We asked her about fitness and football; just in time for Super Bowl LIII.

TOP RIGHT (2): ©ATLANTIC RECORDS; BOTTOM RIGHT: COURTESY EMMA ENGELAGE/CORNERSTONE

Q: Why would you recommend your class, TURN Up at TURN Studio, to a traveler wanting to get in a workout? I think it’s really great if you’re traveling. I know when I travel I always try to go work out, and being on vacation it can be a little difficult, no matter how much you love working out...I like to think of classes as an alternative to an activity, going and meeting up with somebody and taking a class. TURN’s a beautiful facility, a cool place to go check out in itself. And, in the Super Bowl spirit, you gotta come. We’ll probably have some football-themed songs, so it’s really gonna be a one-of-a-kind experience. Q: Speaking of visiting Atlanta, are there any other fitness spots you’d recommend readers check out while in town? I live by the BeltLine, which is at Ponce City Market. It’s huge, kind of like a giant sidewalk, which really goes through neat parts of Atlanta. People run, they ride their bikes or just walk. It’s really grown over the past couple years, and I think people would say it’s this cool thing to do in Atlanta when you visit. So, I recommend that for being outdoors and then for being indoors, Stellar Bodies was the first Lagree studio to open in Atlanta and in my opinion the best [laughs]. They’ve been rooted in Atlanta and they have represented that Lagree-style workout, which is cool because we see a lot of people who come from different cities, and it’s interesting to share the comparisons from other studios. Q: How about non-fitness related “must-sees”? I love the Hotel Clermont rooftop. It just opened, and it’s got a great view, great vibe. On

the other side of town, the west side is really awesome because you can go very high-key, like The Optimist, which is a really nice restaurant or you can go to Ormsby’s, which is one of my favorites...[it’s] a neat spot to hang out, play games, go with friends. And then you can really kind of go into that dive bar area with the Northside Tavern, so there’s a big spectrum of attractions. Cardi B

Q: Switching gears to your job as a Falcons cheerleader—you all recently got this fantastic new stadium. What has that transition been like for you? It’s really neat. There are a few other teammates who we danced together our rookie year and now we are back. I was telling one of them the other day, ‘it’s just bizarre how when we are on the field it feels the exact same as it did, you know five years ago.’ And she was like ‘really?’ But [then she said], ‘yeah, but except in a giant, crazy new stadium.’ And I’m like, ‘no! Even with that.’ The stadium is absolutely amazing, but it’s just wild, I mean it goes to show that Atlanta is Atlanta. We’ve kept the heart and the integrity of the team, no matter where you put us. We just got lucky to be put in such an amazing stadium. I think in the Dome, I felt like I didn’t know where I was going. I couldn’t explore, but the Benz is really awesome. It just feels like home. Q: What’s your favorite memory as a Falcons cheerleader? My favorite memory from the Falcons was certainly when we won the playoff game in 2012— that was the year we almost went to the Super Bowl. I have so many good memories standing in the end zone as we make a touchdown in the last, like, five seconds.

BUD LIGHT SUPER BOWL MUSIC FEST We didn’t think we could be more excited about Super Bowl LIII coming to Atlanta—then Ludacris, Migos, Aerosmith, Bruno Mars and Cardi B were thrown into the mix. In the days prior to the big game, music-lovers will have the chance to purchase tickets to three separate concerts, held in the State Farm Arena and presented by Bud Light. To kick off the festival, Ludacris and Migos will perform alongside special guests in the EA Sports Bowl on Jan. 31. Aerosmith will perform on Feb. 1 and Bruno Mars and Cardi B will perform on Feb. 2. 1 State Farm Drive, 404.878.3000. www.superbowlmusicfest.com

We’re only speculating (and maybe boasting a bit), but we think the reason the NFL chose the Mercedes-Benz Stadium for Super Bowl LIII is its stunning design, impressive technology and commitment to sustainability. No matter if you’re watching football, basketball or another contest, this sports bar and brewpub is the place to go for high-definition TVs, pub grub and draft beer. STATS has its own brewery and serves six home-brewed beverages to pair with American-style eats, in addition to other beer options, specialty drinks and wine. Plus, STATS is one of the only bars in the U.S. with a beer tap system that allows guests to pour their own brews, at select tables. A Show Fit for a Queen Enter the arena and ready your sword! We jest, we jest. However, Atlanta does offer visitors the opportunity to step away from modern-day life and into Medieval Times. Here, you’ll enjoy a four-course meal, sans silverware, (both meat-eaters and vegetarians are welcome at the royal table), as knights joust below. Taking the show to the next level, this season, for the first time in the company’s history, a queen presides. Her Majesty Doña Maria Isabella is part of a new story, which includes brand-new costumes, handmade armour, fight scenes and a musical score. Guests will enjoy watching the Tournament of Games as knights on horseback compete in a ring pierce, flag toss, javelin throw and more in order to become the Royal Court’s Champion. Falconry and dressage only add to the experience. 5900 Sugarloaf Parkway, Lawrenceville. 888.935.6878. www.medievaltimes.com 12 W H E R E AT L A N TA I F E B R UA R Y 20 18

Brunch Bunch

History Buff

Home to a slew of interesting literary spots, book-lovers have plenty to explore in Atlanta. Of course, a visit to the (1) Margaret Mitchell House is first on the list. The apartment is where she wrote her pièce de résistance, "Gone With the Wind," and where visitors can delve into her story. Bookworms will practically devour all the information they find at the

What could be better than a table heaped with brunch dishes? Try topping that table with bottomless beverages (thank us later). Stop by (1) Little 5 Corner Tavern on the weekend and head to their rooftop deck to enjoy bottomless mimosas and Breakfast Wings. Grab a drink, a made to order omelet and a seat with a view of the Chattahoochee River during Sunday Brunch at (2) Ray's on the River. Also serving endless mimosas, Ray's is even better known for its buffet and its bars: that is, its Bloody Mary and Raw bars. Not interested in hair of the dog? Visit (3) Highland Bakery for a bottomless cup of locally-roasted joe. Don't miss the Ultimate Fried Chicken Sandwich, brunch-style: fried chicken, housemade pimento cheese, tomatoes and a fried egg on fresh jalapeño focaccia bread.

History is easy to come by in The City Too Busy to Hate. Those interested in jumping into the deep end can visit the (1) Atlanta History Center, where they'll have access to 33 acres of "award-winning exhibitions, historic houses, enchanting gardens, interactive activities" and more. It's impossible for history buffs to overlook (2) Centennial Olympic Park. Here they will find the Fountain of the Rings and can take a self-guided audio tour explaining the park's role in the 1996 Olympic Games, held right here in Atlanta. History-lovers, don't leave the city until you've visited (3) The King Center. "Dedicated to educating the world on the life, legacy and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.," the center is King's final resting place and home to the largest repository of primary source materials on Dr. King.

(2) Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking. Home to more than 2,000 books, 10,000

watermarks, papers, tools and manuscripts, the museum "is an internationally renowned resource on the history of paper and paper technology." Don't miss a storytelling tour at (3) The Wren's Nest, former home of Joel Chandler Harris, creator of Uncle Remus and Brer Rabbit. The historical space works to preserve the heritage of African-American folklore. 32 W H E R E AT L A N TA I F E B R UA R Y 20 18
