HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Get into the holiday spirit in December in Las Vegas. Resorts up and down the Strip showcase the best of the season with an ice skating rink, holiday shows, snow (snow!) and Santa Claus making his much anticipated arrival from the North Pole ahead of Christmas day. Caroling, shopping, holiday decor and even hot chocolate make it a season to remember with family and friends. Get off the Strip for lighted cacti and illuminated racetracks. Best of all, holiday shows replete with songs of the season that can melt Scrooge’s heart. Here, 10 ways to celebrate the holidays in Las Vegas.
COSMOPOLITAN ICE RINK Let it snow! Not something you expect to hear in Vegas, but if you’re at the Cosmopolitan, that’s just what you’ll experience. It’s part of the winter wonderland that centers on the Boulevard Pool, transformed into a 4,200-square-foot ice rink. Rent a pair of skates and take a few turns around the rink. Afterward, roast S’mores and sip hot chocolate (or something a little stronger) as you watch the snow fall (every 30 minutes). The ice rink is open M-F, 3 pm-midnight; Sa-Su, noon-midnight; and from Dec. 22Jan. 10, daily, noon to midnight. Cosmopolitan, 702.698.6797

MADAME TUSSAUDS AT GRAND CANAL SHOPPES Madame Tussauds Las Vegas brings a new Polar Express 4-D Experience throughout December. The “Polar Express 4-D Experience” is a 15-minute version of the Warner Bros. Pictures film, following a young boy on Christmas Eve who boards a powerful magic train headed to the North Pole, home of Santa Claus’ workshop. Madame Tussauds Las Vegas also has hot cocoa for guests, and select wax figures dressed in ugly holiday sweaters. Grand Canal Shoppes, 702.862.7805

Ask the Expert YOUR CONCIERGE
Mildred Schneidman Concierge at Aria
Q: Tell me about one of your favorite places to send first-time Vegas visitors. A: I love to send my guests to visit the Fountains of Bellagio. It is an iconic spot here in Las Vegas and every guest should have the opportunity to take a picture there to have for memories for years to come. Q: Tell me about your favorite hidden gem in Las Vegas. A: Horseback riding at Bonnie Springs and Red Rock Canyon’s beautiful hiking trails are both some of my favorite activities throughout the city. Q: Where should I eat if I want to celebrate a special occasion? A: Bardot Brasserie here at Aria offers an incredible French dining experience that guests will not want to miss out on. Guests are always raving about their brunch. Q: What’s the craziest request you’ve ever had from a guest? A: I always strive to meet every guest’s requests and work hard to make their visions come to life. I once had a guest ask that the room they were staying in be transformed into only white décor for a themed visit, including walls and all decoration. With the help of my team I was able to make it happen. Q: What’s the must-see show in Las Vegas right now? A: There are so many headliners in Las Vegas such as Bruno Mars, Ricky Martin, Cher, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Celine Dion and more. Las Vegas has become an entertainment mecca and guests can actually see headliners almost every night. For a different type of show, Cirque du Soleil currently has seven great shows in Las Vegas as well. Q: What tips do you give first-timers? A: It is so important for future visitors to get in touch with their property’s concierge team. We have information that many people may not know about and have great relationships with partners and vendors throughout the city. 56 W H E R E L A S V E G A S I D E C E M B E R 2017

The original site of Bugsy Siegel’s Flamingo is now home to the property’s long-legged namesake birds and other exotic creatures. The 15-acre (1) Flamingo Wildlife Habitat (Flamingo, 702.733.3349) is open 24 hours a day and filled with a flock of Chilean flamingos, Ringed Teal ducks and Sacred Ibis as well as swans, koi fish and turtles. MGM Grand used to have its own lion habitat, but now the big cats roam the (2) Lion Habitat Ranch (382 Bruner Ave., 702.595.6666) south of the Strip. Lions from three weeks to 20 years old are on display. One half of the magical (3) Siegfried
What‘s one place very first-time visitor to Vegas should see? The perfect view of Las Vegas, of course. The (1) Fountains at Bellagio not only bring dancing waters paired with music of all genres, but they put on a show every 30 minutes between 3-8 pm on weekdays and every 15 minutes from 8 pm-midnight. The weekends unleash the fountains starting at noon. Serpentine streams of water blast 245 feet in the air and are set to music. Travel 460 feet above the Strip to the top of this half-scale replica of the (2) Eiffel Tower at Paris and enjoy a panoramic view. Open from 10 am to 1 am daily. At the (3) Stratosphere Tower, see all of Las Vegas—a full 360-degree view—in front of you at Stratosphere’s indoor and outdoor observation decks. Chilly weather calls for an indoor view.
Las Vegas brings out the best and the brightest when it comes to entertainment. Some performers even call Sin City home, at least part of the year. (1) The Righteous Brothers (Harrah’s, 702.777.2782) bring their “blue-eyed soul” to Las Vegas. Bill Medley and Bucky Heard perform “Unchained Melody,” “Time of My Life,” and the most-played song in the history of American radio, “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling.” The girls go wild for (2) Boyz II Men (Mirage, 702.792.7777). Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman and Wayne Morris bring an East Coast Philly swing to Sin City with them. Expect squeals during “I’ll Make Love To You.” (3) The Bronx Wanderers (Bally’s, 702.777.2782) trio brings the stories behind the golden oldies to life. This show has fans hand-clapping and dancing in the aisles.
& Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat (Mirage, 702.791.7188) features the white tigers, lions and other big cats from the famous magicians. The other half lives in a neighboring 2.5-million gallon habitat. 72 W H E R E L A S V E G A S I D E C E M B E R 2017
