HOT DATES MARCH 20-25:

Love Never Dies

Fans of “The Phantom of the Opera” can continue where Andrew Lloyd Webber left off with “Love Never Dies,” set in 1907, 10 years after the Phantom disappeared from the Paris Opera House. Now in Coney Island, he lives among the freak shows, finding a place for his music. But his love for his musical protégée, Christine Daaé, never died. As she travels to New York to perform, her marriage to Raoul suffers from his drinking and gambling. The Phantom lures her, Raoul and their son to Coney Island. March 20-23, 7:30 pm; March 24-25, 2 & 7:30 pm. Reynolds Hall at the Smith Center, 877.893.2003

WITH A SPANISH TWIST Chef José Andrés’ celebration of all things carnivorous at Bazaar Meat features real Kobe beef, one of the few places in the United States that offers this delicacy. The starters list includes three different caviar flights, numerous tartares, oysters, carpaccios (including bison) and cured meats. Then come the big guys from the fire pit—two types of Spanishstyle, bone-in rib-eye steaks. SLS, 702.761.7610 A CLASSIC APPROACH Vic & Anthony’s at the Golden Nugget features high-quality menu selections such as bone-in ribeye and Australian rock lobster. Golden Nugget, 702.386.8399 TABLESIDE TREATMENT Enjoy the world’s finest prime rib, aged 21 days and hand-carved to order tableside on rolling silver carts in an over-the-top presentation at Lawry’s The Prime Rib. STEAK WITH A VIEW The finest-quality meats (and seafood) get the star treatment from renowned chef JeanGeorges Vongerichten at his temple of red meat, Prime, with its handsomely designed dining room dressed in deep chocolate brown and delicate Tiffany blue. Head out to the patio overlooking the Fountains at Bellagio and order dry-aged bone-in rib-eye steaks, crackling tangy glazed short ribs, herb-crusted Colorado lamb chops or peppercorncrusted New York strips. SEXY STEAK A celebration of indulgent food includes decadent steaks, goosefat fried potatoes and huge desserts at Strip House. This is one of the sexiest rooms in Las Vegas with its red boudoir decor. Of course, the true gems here are the charred-to-perfection steaks—the dry-aged rib-eye steak and bonein New York strip are full of flavor. Planet Hollywood, 702.737.5200 MOB MEAT Former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman has his own glamorous steakhouse, built in the Plaza’s iconic dome overlooking the Fremont Street Experience. Sometimes his honor even makes appearances at Oscar’s Steakhouse to regale crowds with stories from his previous life as a mob lawyer. The Plaza, 702.386.7227

“TOP CHEF” STEAKS Celebrate the flavors of ingredients produced by small family farms and artisanal producers at Tom Colicchio’s Craftsteak. Mix it up with a 24-hour braised short rib or try the signature rib-eye steak. MGM Grand, Las Vegas, 702.891.7318

Morton’s, The Steakhouse

Flamingo Rd., 702.893.0703 THAT CHARLIE PALMER TOUCH Charlie Palmer Steak offers a twist on traditional fare in an elegant and understated environment. Try the charcoal-grilled filet mignon or a 28-day aged bonein rib-eye steak. Four Seasons, 702.632.5120 13

SPRING BREAK

Big Bites Head to Beerhaus at The Park for happy hour from 2 to 6 p.m. daily with $4 draft beers and dogs. Or just order a Spit Roast pork sandwich with onions, arugula, sweet and spicy mustard and a soft bun. Beerhaus, The Park, 702.692.BEER

Montecristo Cigar Bar

The old saying goes that you should smoke ’em if you got ’em. Indeed, Las Vegas can help you do just that. Montecristo Cigar Bar at Caesars Palace spans 4,000 square feet with a 100-seat bar, lounge and gaming area. Puff away in The Library, The Courtyard and The Vault Room as well. Davidoff Cigar Bar on the Plaza at Fashion Show features a walk-in humidor, patio for people watching and rare whiskeys to sip with that cigar. Head there for happy hour for discounted drinks. Casa Fuente at the Forum Shops at Caesars specializes in rums and the cigars that go with them. Sit on the patio inside the shopping center and watch the ebb and flow of tourists streaming by. It’s sister lounge, Rhumbar at the Mirage, features a pristine white interior and patio overlooking the volcano. Aficionados turn to En Fuego Cigars & Lounge at 328 W. Sahara Ave. for a stogey fix.

SPRING BREAK ACTION: Dig into These Tasty Eats A week away from classes means college kids need to figure out something to do with their time. Start at Beer Park, the Paris bar and eatery with a 10,000-square-foot deck, more than 100 beers on tap and concession-style snacks served from a roving cart. Dig into a pulled chicken sandwich or a brat at Beerhaus at The Park with its roster of craft beers. The red velvet whoopie pie is a great way to cap off a meal. No trip is complete without a stop at Food Network star Guy Fieri’s Vegas Kitchen & Bar at The Linq. Try one of eight shots delivered from an ice dispenser and then wolf down Trash Can brisket nachos or a bacon mac-n-cheese burger before hitting the clubs. 14 W H E R E L A S V E G A S I M A R C H 2018

Elton John

1 Jennifer Lopez

Jenny from the Block Jennifer Lopez performs some of

her final shows in Las Vegas with a mix of dance, hip hop, Latin and pop music. The show features seven costume changes as well as Lopez walking down a Swarovski crystal staircase, catching the 6 Train and paying homage to her Latin roots. The 90-minute show includes her hit songs “On The Floor,” “Jenny From The Block,” “Get Right” and “Love Don’t Cost A Thing.” March 2-3, 24, 28, 30-31, 9 pm. Tickets range from $59-$219. Planet Hollywood Resort, 702.777.2782

ELTON JOHN That million dollar piano at center stage that Elton John plays is practically another character in the show with its 68 LED Yamaha video screens flickering along with the tunes. At 3,200 pounds, it weighs almost as much as a car. But Blossom, as Sir John calls her, digs into his biggest hits, including “Your Song,” “Bennie and the Jets,” “Levon,” “Rocket Man” and “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues.” Go ahead and sing and dance along. Note: John plans to stop touring, so these will be some of his final shows in Las Vegas. March 1-2, 7:30 pm. Tickets start at $49.50. The Colosseum at Caesars, 888.435.8665

LIONEL RICHIE—ALL THE HITS “Hello” may have sparked the meme spread round the world, but Lionel Richie looks for more than that when he takes the stage in Las Vegas. “All Night Long,” “Easy (Like Sunday Morning),” “Say You, Say Me,” and “Dancing on the Ceiling” make the set list. March 7, 9-10, 13, 16-17, 20, 9 pm. Tickets start at $59. Axis Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort, 702.777.2782

Singer Celine Dion is one who can, bringing not only her big hits such as “My Heart Goes On,” “I Surrender,” “Where Does My Heart Beat Now” and “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now/The Power of Love” but covers of “Beauty & The Beast,” “All By Myself” and “Purple Rain,” all backed by 31 musicians in a full orchestra. INCUBUS The band’s twonight stint in 2015 at the Joint inspired the Hard Rock Hotel to invite Incubus back for an extended run. “Stellar” brings the sweet line “How do you do it / Make me feel like I do” while “Wish You Were Here” and “Anna-Molly” contain those easy hooks that make them worthy of a sing-along. “Pardon Me” showcases DJ Kilmore’s turntable scratching skills. THE GUIDE

Ask the Expert YOUR CONCIERGE

Kathleen M. Hopay Concierge at Mandalay Bay

Q: What’s the must-see show in Las Vegas right now? A: I have a few suggestions for this question. First, without a doubt, Cirque Du Soleil’s “Michael Jackson One” at Mandalay Bay. In the world of pop music, there can only be one king, and the show is a heartfelt tribute to his work, spirit and legacy. Words cannot express how moved people are by the performance. Second, if you are in the mood for a live performer, look no further than Matt Goss at 1OAK at The Mirage. “Old School, New Cool” is how the show is marketed. A Britishborn gent who engages the audience with his multi-pieced band and compared to the Rat Pack, Goss is dubbed “The New King of Vegas” and his show should not be missed. Q: Describe your perfect evening out in Las Vegas. A: If I was planning my perfect evening, it would start with an early dinner, then on to a show. From there I would like to take a Maverick Helicopter night tour of the Las Vegas Strip and end it at a club, preferably one at Wynn or Encore because they both have some of the most requested DJs in the world. When a guest asks me this question, I always ask what type of budget they have because I can always customize a perfect evening no matter what the budget.

CHOOSE YOUR ADVENTURE! OFF ROAD ADVENTURE TOURS FROM $139 PER PERSON Top-Rated Free Pick Up Group Discounts Free Gift!

Q: What tips do you give first-timers? A: The first thing I tell them is that I hope you didn’t bring new shoes because chances are, you are going to get blisters. Of course, we have Band-Aids if needed. Everything seems close in proximity but in reality much further than it looks. Utilize the tram and Monorail systems to navigate the Strip. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. I always suggest that guests become M life Rewards members to save on experiences and get future offers to return back. I always offer them the Where Magazine, which gives first-time guests a compilation of all that Vegas has to offer. Las Vegas Your Way

Foodie

Adrenaline Junkie

FamilyFriendly

Sometimes you just want to stuff your face with more food. Eat a feast truly fit for a Roman god at 1) Bacchanal Buffet (Caesars Palace, 702.731.7928). Nine serving stations are presented creatively and offer everything from prime rib and crab legs to watermelon and feta salad, prosciutto and high-grade sashimi. Sate your cravings with top quality, familiar staples, in addition to imaginative and seasonal dishes at (2) Wicked Spoon (Cosmopolitan, 702.698.7870). Eleven cooking stations, a street of restaurants and an array of tempting elements make up (3) Cravings (Mirage, 866.339.4566). (4) The Buffet at Golden Nugget (Golden Nugget, 702.386.8221) features a seemingly endless array of stations, including the Seafood & More dinner buffet F-Su and Champagne brunch Sa-Su.

Nothing quite like driving fast in a hot car. At (1) Exotics Racing (702.405.7223) at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, that means racing school is open daily with dream rides such as a Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Porsche or Audi. A professional driver can even zip you around in a Corvette Z06. (2) Richard Petty Driving Experience (800.237.3889) at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway lets you get behind the wheel and drive like a racing king. Do 18 laps with some tips from the pros to make you a better driver. Hit the longest and fastest track in Las Vegas at (3) Speed Vegas (14200 Las Vegas Blvd. S., 888.979.7236). Let a driver take you along for two laps of drifting, where the back end of the car kicks out. Or make it a 600-horsepower NASCAR-style stock car that reaches speeds up to 137 miles per hour.

Grab the kids and have some fun in Las Vegas. (1) Mac King Comedy Magic Show (Harrah’s, 702.777.2782) features side-splitting comedy and magic from the man adored by adults and children alike.
