Dr. Heather Woolery-Lloyd DERMATOLOGIST/CREATOR, SPECIFIC BEAUTY
There’s a misconception that people with dark complexions don’t need to apply sunscreen because they are less likely to get burned, which is completely false. Sunscreen is essential.
Q: Tell us a bit about Specific Beauty?
A: Miami has such a diverse population and after hearing many of my patients with different ethnic backgrounds and skin tones complain that there wasn’t a skin care line that addressed their needs, I created a range that was meant for all women. The goal of Specific Beauty is to make women feel good not only on the outside but on the inside as well. Q: Share one beauty tip for visitors to Miami.
“Miami is a great city because there are so many things to do ... a fun atmosphere. It is definitely never boring.”
A: If I am going to be there for a few days, I often check out the local gyms to see what kind of classes they have. I love to do Zumba and fitness dance classes and I’ll usually take a few if possible when I’m traveling.
A: Miami is a great city because there are so many things to do. The art community is great here and I really enjoy going to shows featuring local artists. There are also so many great restaurants that combine good food with a fun atmosphere. It is definitely never boring. Q: What places are on your travel bucket list?
A: Bali or Bora Bora. I have always wanted to visit the islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
COURTESY DR. HEATHER WOOLERY-LLOYD
A: The best beauty tip is always wear sunscreen.
Q: When you travel, what’s the first thing that you do at your destination?
Q: What do you love about living in Miami?

Besides food halls, Miami is poised to welcome a star-studded lineup of eateries.
SIP + SAVOR Food halls are taking the country by storm, and that’s certainly true in South Florida. Mangia, mangia at La Centrale, Miami’s much-anticipated food hall with 14 authentic Italian-inspired dining experiences spread over three floors in Brickell City Centre. Also straying from the food court concept is Aventura Mall, with nearly a dozen vendors including Figs by Todd English, Shake Shack and Luke’s Lobster taking over the expanded wing of its food hall. Further north in West Palm Beach, twelve independent food purveyors have come together under one roof at Grandview Public Market. GPM, as it’s known, transforms a 12,000-square-foot repurposed mid-century warehouse into a gathering spot for locals and visitors to dine-in or take away local flavors. Besides food halls, Miami is poised to welcome a star-studded lineup of eateries. When Azabu Miami Beach opens in 2018 within the Marriott Stanton South Beach, it will introduce its Michelin-starred Sushi Azabu's (New York City) intimate, authentic Japanese dining experience, led by Chefs Masatsugu (Masa) Kubo and Kenichi (Ken) Fujimoto. In addition to a full-service dining room, Azabu Miami Beach will feature a hidden, 11-seat sushi counter called The Den, and a classic-style cocktail scene in Bar Azabu. Mouths dropped and palates salivated when The French Laundry from three-star Michelin chef/restaurateur Thomas Keller and the first U.S. outpost for Le Sirenuse, were announced as part of the slate of restaurants at the re-imagined Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club in Surfside. Keller’s The French Laundry will open later in 2018, but diners can enjoy southern Italian cuisine straight from the Amalfi Coast at Le Sirenuse restaurant and champagne bar. A smaller collection of eateries is found
at 1-800-LUCKY, the Asian-themed marketplace in Wynwood. Stop in and choose from Chinese BBQ, traditional ramen, sushi handrolls, dim sum, poke bowls and Taiyaki (fish-shaped ice cream cones). Asian cuisine continues to take center stage in Broward County with the opening of ETARU in Hallandale, featuring contemporary Japanese Robatayaki cuisine with chef Sergio Rivera at the helm of the oceanfront setting. A second location at Icon Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale will open in the winter. Opening in early 2017 is El Vez at the W Fort Lauderdale. Helmed by 2017 James Beard Award-winning restaurateur Stephen Starr, El Vez joins his already well-established culinary empire in Philadelphia and New York. Look for El Vez adjacent to his other restaurant at the W, Steak 954. More new additions expected at the chic and ever-expanding Miami Design District include Ember and Kaido from chef Brad Kilgore. As its name suggests, Ember will feature a wood-fire fueled kitchen that opens to the dining room for diners to watch their meals prepared. And, right above Ember sits Kaido, a Japaneseinfluenced cocktail lounge with a dining menu featuring shared plates of sashimi, crudo, yakitori and local fish. RETAIL THERAPY The sweet flavors of Exquisito Fine Chocolates have made the move to Little Havana, and the neighborhood couldn't be more fortunate to have the delectable chocolate shop in its midst. The chocolatiers’ new 1,200-square-foot space houses not only its shop, but its award-winning bean-to-bar production and class space as well. Stop by for a tour or a tasting—or both—and make sure to try the Latin s’mores with guava or passion fruit. Wynwood is upping its shopping game with the introduction of the 1-800-LUCKY

In Fort Lauderdale, shopping destination Las Olas Boulevard welcomes a couple of new retailers in 2018, too. Leading beauty chain Bluemercury invites shoppers in to peruse its selection of cosmetics, skin care, makeup, perfume, hair, and bath and body products. Add a pop of color with resort wear giant Lilly Pulitzer, who recently “popped up” in Las Olas with a temporary shop, open till April 2018. PLAY TIME Led Zeppelin may have sung about “Stairway to Heaven” but in South Florida, it’s all about the “fairway to heaven.” Between Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach, golfers can have the pick of the litter. Don’t call it a comeback—Collins Avenue has been a shopping destination for years, and its recent rejuvenation is attracting plenty of fashionistas again. Adding caché and buzz to its increasingly hip fashion scene are the openings of wellregarded fashion retailer LF Stores, global surf brand Rip Curl and the new H&M flagship store. Skateboard-inspired looks at Vans and bohemian-inspired fashions at Free People add to the avenue’s style.

and 18-holes, Topgolf has you covered. This new entertainment venue (part golf, part sports bar) in Miami Gardens near the Hard Rock Stadium boasts 102 climatecontrolled hitting bays that accommodate up to six players for year-round comfort, a chef-driven food and drink menu, and hundreds of HDTVs to catch any Miami team on the big screen. Now, that’s a place “fore” everyone! If you have kids in tow, head to FunDimension, Wynwood’s first family-friendly center. Laser tag, bumper cars, a 7-D theater, arcade and a four-story indoor playground with a climbing wall, tunnels, slides and an obstacle course are some of the fun activities you’ll find here. Adults may want to retreat to The Galley, a lounge with
complimentary Wi-Fi and a full-service café serving wine by the glass, local craft beer and cups of Joe from Panther Coffee. Speaking of craft beer, Bousa Brewing opened its taproom in the Little River District with 13 American and European-style brews ranging from approachable styles to rich and strong ales, and lagers for the hardcore beer enthusiasts. On tap here are Honey Blonde Ale, Tripel, Guava Ale, Raspberry Wheat, Marzen, Stout, Ámber, Saison, Session IPA, their flagship American Wheat and the Quad in collaboration with Lincoln’s Beard Brewing Co. Go ahead and try these spots out— they may very well become your new favorite hangout. Cheers!

WHERE IN MIAMI
We’re addicted to ice cream
For more great ice cream in Miami, visit wheretraveler.com
64
Azucar When I really want to go fancy and find the time, my favorite ice cream shop is Azucaron Eight Street. It has all kinds of great tropical flavors of which I favor anything with mango in it. –Ron Magill, Communications Director, Zoo Miami
WHE RE I JA N UA R Y /FEBRUARY 2018
Sloane's - West Palm Beach I love their Cherries Jubilee–it’s cherry ice cream with chocolate chunks and sweet black cherries. –Angela Cruz, Beauty News with Angela Cruz, @angelacruztube
Wynwood Parlor My go-to here is the “Bedrock,” two red velvet cookies
with rich vanilla ice cream, rolled in Fruity Pebbles. –Gino Campodónico, Writer/Blogger, TheMannequinParty.com
Whip & Dip Urbanites have been flocking to this ice cream shop since 1985. Homemade flavors include tropi cool mango ice cream and
pineapple sorbet. –Annie Vazquez, Fashion Writer, @TheFashionPoet
Mr. Kream When I don't buy from Publix, I go to Mr. Kream and order straight up vanilla. I'm not into layering a bunch of stuff. If it's organic even better. –Angela Cruz, Beauty News with Angela Cruz
COURTESY AZUCAR ICE CREAM COMPANY
